Her responsibilities include discharging patients, sending reminders, conducting follow-ups and checking in patients. She loves working hands-on with pets. At Starkville Veterinary Hospital, we understand that cancer is a word no pet owner wants to hear in connection with his or her beloved pet's health. However, cancer is a diagnosis that seems to have become almost commonplace in today's society, affecting humans as well as our canine and feline companions.
Dental care is more than just preventing bad breath. Periodontal disease is one of the most common-and most preventable-diseases your pet may encounter. If left untreated, plaque and tartar buildup can lead to reddened and bleeding gums, loose teeth and other problems. Bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream and potentially damage the liver, kidneys and other organs.

I've never had a bad experience with this vet office, and anyone who's had to deal with a pet crisis knows how important that is. They always answer all my questions even when it's just me being a worried dog parent. The people in the front office clearly love working with animals and are a joy to talk to.

The staff was very kind and took great care of our cat when he got neutered! They were upfront about costs, and made sure we understood everything before we left the office.

I have a medium breed dog who is very fearful of the vet. He has to be muzzled and given trazodone the day before and an hour before going to an appointment, which the staff knew and I obliged. Any time my dog would show any anxiety or aggression to Dr. Shy, we have just been told "there's nothing we can do". Dr. Shy also told me to just not give my dog any vaccines because he was too fearful after maybe trying for 2 minutes to calm him down.

I ended up having to administer one of the vaccines at home because he simply refused to do it, or even try. He also recommended that I just hope that my dog is safe without vaccines. I work at a daycare where my dog is constantly around a bunch of other dogs, so I need him to be vaccinated for everyone's safety. He also said there was nothing he can do when I asked about anxiety medication. Very unprofessional and didn't feel like he even cared about my dog just because he is afraid of the vet.

Doctor Shy is an awesome vet. Just had a VERY serious problem with my new dog and he was there every step of the way. There is also a young lady (Lexi) there that is VERY special. Her loving and caring for animals is unbelievable. She loved my Shank a Labrador Retriever from the first time they met. As to the rest of the staff there Dr. Shy is very lucky to have them all. A fantastic group of people.

They were great on the phone, and great once I got there. They explained everything clearly and my dog really likes to go and was not stressed at all (both times she went)! Everyone was very friendly and caring!

Dr. Shy and staff were absolutely outstanding! When my cat needed a slight emergency procedure done I was able to bring her in as a first time patient. Allie was so sweet on the phone and reassuring. Dr. Shy kept me updated throughout the day. I could tell my elderly cat was loved on and taken care of while she was at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. They have gained a new patient, and I will definitely recommend them to all of my friends with pets!

The staff here are wonderful! I have used several different vets in Starkville and this is hands down the best I've been to. The receptionists are extremely helpful and will give you any advice they can. Super helpful and super friendly place!

I have used this vet for 10 years or more but today they went above and beyond to help us in a situation with our dog. They are amazing and professional and it’s hard to find that consistency anywhere. They are and always have been top notch!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Shy and his staff!!! They took such great care of our Yorkie, Wilson, and did everything they could to help him. When the tough decision had to be made to end his suffering, they were kind, compassionate, comforting, and helpful! We also take our lab, Gatlin, for wellness checks, and they are thorough and so patient with him! We love Starkville Veterinary Hospital!

Update: I have had positive experiences boarding my dog here for short periods. The front desk staff is friendly. From calling around, prices for vet care are just higher here in MS. We recently moved to the area and I went here because of all the good reviews on google. I was disappointed. My dog was skittish and anxious to leave the entire time even though he loved our last vets office.

Something must have smelled off to him. Then the assistant walked in and stuck my dog with vaccinations with no explanation to me beforehand. He was given unnecessary shots even though I had proof his shots were mostly current. An unnecessary fecal culture was done without asking as well. I was told my dog needed to come in every six months for physicals, cultures and heart worm checks despite no history of problems. I also have the prices from my previous vet and they were almost double here. The vet barely talked to me even when I asked questions.
