I founded Dessau Vet Clinic in 1986, and have the great good fortune to still like what I do these many years later. Veterinary medicine offers a daily challenge in problem solving and my customers are motivated owners who, for the most part, treat their pets as cherished family members. I have a great team in my employees, and together with Susan Waage, we make a great staff. Come on in and meet us!

Conveniently located on Dessau just up from Parmer Lane. Dr Campbell is incredibly gentle and caring with all animals. This is a small clinic that puts the animals first. Dr Campbell problem solves and suggest changes as needed. She noticed the collar I had on one of my cats and suggested a different one for the safety of my pet. I highly recommend Dr Campbell and her staff.

I was trying to schedule my pup there since we are new to the area, when I reached out, I was welcomed with a very snarky email. Basically telling me I was wrong and I didn't know how to work the website for new patients. Instead of setting up a call with me or help walk me through the steps to schedule an appt he/she just kept telling me no. Very rude and unprofessional. Literally, swap that person out for someone with a better attitude. You really want this individual representing your clinic? Good luck with that!

After taking my 3 dogs to Dessau Veterinary Clinic for 5 years, when I ordered their heart worm preventative medication online as I always do, I was informed that the request for approval was denied by Dr. Campbell, because it has been 2 years since we had heart worm screening done by them. Dessau did not contact me I had to call them to find out why the meds had not been sent! Disgusted with them and this is not the only problem that we have experienced. My dogs didn't like them either!

I've been taking my dog here since I adopted her almost two years ago and I couldn't be more satisfied with the care she receives here. My concerns are always taken seriously, her exams are thorough, and everyone who interacts with her does so with compassion. The entire office is so friendly and makes both of us feel welcome. Ellie says thank you very much!

I am always impressed with the service I receive at Dessau Vet Clinic. Everyone is very friendly and is eager to help, regardless of the situation. My cat is well taken care of, my concerns are always addressed, and they do a good job of reminding me ahead of time when appointments are needed. I also feel that the costs are more affordable/fair than I have seen at other clinics.

Dr. Campbell has one flaw: she's perfect. Other than that she's perfect. Every time I see her walk into the exam room, I feel like I've won the lottery. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of veterinary medicine, she's warm, empathetic, kind, conscientious in regards to costs & not strapping me with unnecessary procedures, labs, or medicine and her super competent & friendly staff do a first rate job and usually always work me in.

I almost Hesitate to write so many good things because, while every pet deserves a great veterinarian, I fear it will be harder to get an appointment And I selfishly want her to myself and my dog. Therefore, having said all these wonderful things, best of luck to you in your search for another wonderful veterinarian!

We love the staff here and the parking lot service since COVID. It's relaxing and convenient, and I always know my dog is treated sweetly by the kind and gentle staff! They also advise of the twice annual discounts on anesthesia services (such as needed for dental cleaning, ) so you can get a locked in quote for services when the deal is best.

Very friendly and caring staff! Dr was straight forward, very knowledgeable and didn't try to give me the run around or take me for unnecessary charges. They got us in and out in a timely manner. No complaints at all! Thank y'all for caring for my babygirl!

What an absolute waste of time and money. My senior dog jumped off the couch and hurt himself. We weren't sure if he pulled a muscle or something more serious happened like a slipped disc in his back. He is obviously in a lot of pain though. Upon first seeing our dog, Dr. Campbell said she was confident he had kidney disease and she wanted to do the lab work to confirm this.

We agreed to the blood work even though it really had nothing to do with his injury. The lab results showed he in fact, does NOT have kidney disease. Dr. Campbell barely touched our dog and did not palpate his body looking for the site of the injury. He was visibly trembling in pain and she pushed for lab work to be done to rule out kidney disease?!?

Make it make sense. $500 later, we were given some pain meds and sent on our way. We still have no clue what is wrong with our dog so we have made an appt with another vet who we feel is more qualified to assess what is going on. Also, just an FYI -- none of the staff (including Dr. Campbell) wears a mask in the office. That should have been my first clue that this vet is not a critical thinker nor an evidence-based practitioner.

After the first visit, they identified the root cause of several issues I've been treating my senior dog for for ten years! Just switched to Dessau for our three dogs based on a recommendation from a friend at the dog park and great reviews online. I had no idea until I visited Dessau that there was an underlying issue causing Trout's frequent ear infections, weight gain, lethargy, and skin "allergies." No other vet thought to ask if it might be his thyroid; they just treated the symptoms.

It's been super convenient to get appointments so far, and everyone is friendly and competent. We are a difficult customer juggling three large dogs-two with special needs, but they made it easy. Great experience, and I would highly recommend.

Good vets are hit or miss, but this one is definitely the best vet I've been to in a long time. The entire. staff is very friendly, patient, and genuinely cares about your pet. I would definitely recommend them and plan on staying with them as long as I live in the area. (Photo taken right after trip to vet).

Thank you for such amazing care and compassion. Our dog had a hotspot on his paw and Dr. Campbell and her team stayed late on a Monday to see him and figure out what was going on! We work an exhaustive schedule and getting things done during the work day is near impossible. Thank you for your empathy and willingness to go the extra mile. I would highly recommend Dr. Campbell and the rest of the clinic staff! We use them for everything from annual checkups, vaccinations, to grooming etc and have always left feeling more than satisfied. Thanks!

I'm no longer bringing my cat here. Today was the last nail in the coffin. My cat has upper respiratory problems and they have recommended that we do a procedure where we can finish out her nasal passages and we were told we can do it when we feel she needs it. My poor cat hasn't eaten since before midnight last night in preparation of the procedure and it is now after 5pm and no one gave my cat any food or treats.

I was also not called to be notified that she was ready to be picked up. Dr. Campbell called me shortly after I dropped her off and her tone dripped with condecension and frustration about how this procedure wasn't needed afterall. The service here is very inconsistent and I don't expect anyone to remember anything about my cat, but I would appreciate if things were actually written down so I'm not being asked the same questions over and over, or told the same things that I already know. Don't waste your time at this office

We came in from out of town with our dogs to visit family in Pflugerville. Our pug needed some grooming/minor medical care and didn't want to take her to one of the chain box pet stores, we found Dessau Veterinary Clinic here on Yelp. We called in the morning and Dessau Veterinary Clinic was happy to see us that afternoon. When I got there they took us right to an exam room and did the procedure along with a nail trim for both our dogs.

The Vet Techs were very helpful, friendly, kind, and most of all caring for our pups. They took great care of them! The office was quiet and most of all clean. We are so happy we now have a place to go if our babies need any help while in the area.

Absolutely wonderful staff. We were visiting from out of town and our basset hound Buddy needed some stitches removed that I thought I could handle myself. Once I took a closer look I thought "no way I'm doing this." so I checked Yelp and called these guys. "No problem, bring him in" they said So my wife took him in and they saw him right away. They took really good care of him in minutes and he was on his way. If I lived in Austin this would be my vet!

I could not be happier with the service I received during my first visit to Dessau Veterinary Clinic. After discussing my fur baby's symptoms over the phone to my original vet's office, they suspected my little one had a UTI. But they were too busy to see me right away and recommended the VCA Anderson Mill Animal Hospital. That was almost two hours I'll never get back.

After their failed attempt to get a urine sample at the end of a clawed stick, I left there with a tiny urine sample container, $55 lighter and very upset that my little one was still suffering. Luckily, a good friend had recommended Dessau, so I headed there next. With tears streaming and my little one in hand, I explained what I had been through and that I just needed a urinalysis and some antibiotics for my dog.

We were ushered into an exam room right away and things started to happen. My little one was examined, painlessly cathed, and a urinalysis was done. They were very attentive and understanding. Everything was explained and I was sent on my way with meds and a great sense of relief. What a great team! Needless to say, Dessau is now my new vet. YAY! Thank you, Dessau, for your patience and compassion. I will never forget it!

Very compassionate staff and top notch care from the veterinarians. They worked me in for emergencies, boarded my elderly corgi last minute and took the best care of him the last few weeks he was alive. I'm so grateful for the care we received.

We have basically an ungroomable dog. He does not like to be groomed and has been put under in the past! Dessau Vet groomed him with out sedation and said he did great which speaks for itself. The staff was friendly, quick and caring!

Love the team at DVC! They are so sweet and helpful. My skittish, anxious and slightly rude chihuahua was loved so much that he can't wait to go back! This is our new Home Vet for sure!

I am so thankful that we found this vet clinic. I was rushing to find somewhere to have my dog looked at for possible lymphoma. When the results came back, they were extremely detailed when telling me about the cancer, the prices of everything and the possibilities of how long she would survive. They were honest and made me feel reassured. Dr. Kampbell kept in touch, would call back when I had questions and even helped me with needing help figuring out if it was my dogs time or not.

This morning I took my dog in to be put to sleep due to cancer eating her body. Dr Kampbell was so warm and generous. So was Mary (the vet assistant). They allowed me time to spend with my dog, and Mary made me a paw printed Londen's paw. I just can't begin to brag enough or thank them enough for their compassionate hearts. Thank you!

This is by far the best veterinary clinic I have EVER been to. Every time i'm in I have nothing short of a five star experience. I would get them 10 stars if I could. The clinic has a very warm, and welcoming environment for both myself and their patients. The staff is always so friendly, attentive, and informative in regards to the visit with my doggos. Most importantly they treat my animals as if they were their own. Major kudos to the techs who always put my dogs and I at ease. They have gained a loyal customer for life.

The staff was very friendly, and their boarding facility is affordable and nice. I went to this vet when I first got my dog because it was close to my home and Austin Pets Alive had them on an approval list for vets that would give my dog her free check up. This was in 2014, but I keep receiving emails reminding me of the experience I had here. My dog had lost about 10 pounds since I had adopted her and when the vet came to look at her she just got very stern with me about how skinny my dog was.

I had never had a problem with any of the pets I've had and had no idea what to do, but she didn't really give me any tips or ask about any other problems I had with the dog. I never went back because I wasn't offered any help with it, just blamed for her weight loss. I am a very experienced pet owner, so to be treated like I was first time pet owner, had just adopted this dog for selfish reasons, and was torturing it wasn't helpful.

I know this wasn't the doctors intention, but this is how I was made to feel. I uped her food intake to 4 cups a day (Because naturally thats what you would do if someone told you your dog needed to gain weight) with a can of dog food daily just to get her to eat it, all first ingredient meat mid grade dog food and it kept her at 65 pounds with incredible difficulty.

Just getting this dog to eat is hard enough; I could drop a steak on the ground and she would consider eating it. Then I took her to Corner Vet in East Austin and talked to them about it and they gave me some real help(and a beer), offered me some probiotics noting it could be some intestine disorder, and discussed that some dogs just are naturally skinny. Turns out she gets colitis.

I think this clinic could've improved my experience if they had been more diligent in figuring out why my dog would've lost that much weight that quickly instead of placing direct blame on me. It wasn't helpful to me or my dog. Providing good experiences at vets for both the pet and the owner is crucial if we want people to keep caring for their animals the best way possible.

We have older adopted dogs who have emotional and physical problems and everyone here has amazing patience and love for our big puppies. There's no shortage of ideas to help us, great advice, patience and fast response times to questions. They show an amazing level of love, care and knowledge and have yet to steer us wrong after years of going there. The lengths they go to to take care of our pets and us are fantastic. Not only that, I've see so many other pets come through there and get the exact same amazing treatment.

I got a new puppy from a breeder and was recommended by a friend to this clinic. I made an appointment for 5:30 pm since I work 9-5 every day and got stuck behind an accident. they close at 6pm and I arrived at 5:55pm. I felt terrible and said I could reschedule but the office staff and vet were friendly and said no we can see your puppy now (! so great).

They stayed late and didn't seem to rush through all the questions I had about training and shot schedules. I even had a question about her eyes as she kept running into things and the vet took the extra time to do some research for me behind the office. They are more affordable than most vets in Austin (I believe the people complaining about price either have never been to a vet before or are use to using Austin's low cost subsidized animal care center) and provide preventative protection through a special pharmacy called roadrunner for cheap continuous preventative care for ticks and fleas.

I will be returning and am very happy with their competency and service! Having a single vet is extremely important for your pet and I'm happy I found mine with my first visit. Wellness exam was in the $60 range and the fecal exam was $19. I didn't need shots so that was about everything - they provided me with a one month flea and tick prevention for free, puppy treats for free, some brochures about dog food and preventative care, and 5 training tips for difficult dogs. I didn't really need these as I have another dog but the gesture was nice.

I called and made an appointment for my cat because she was refusing to use her litter box. Normally this means a UTI. I arrived at little late, only to discover that I was at the wrong place. I'm new to the area and could only remember the vet was on Dessau road. The woman laughed with me at my mistake and said the doctor could fit me in if I could wait a few mins.

I gladly agreed and sat down to wait. The Dr came out shortly and finished discussing follow up with the previous pet mom. She turned to me and smiled a huge smile and welcomed me back to the treatment room. My cat rolled around and acted likes she's never received any attention in her life as the doctor felt her stomach and bladder. They ran the urine test which came back negative and then we talked about stresses that could be causing the box issues.

We talked for a good 20 minutes about how to help my cat. It cost me a decent chunk of change for the tests, but not more than any other vet. I would gladly pay it again for the sincere caring that I received. My cat was happy to get all that attention too. THANKS!

I took in a stray recently that needed a good grooming badly. Yorkie mix. Emancipet helped me get started on vaccinations and such. For grooming needs I tried Petsmart and a small independent groomer but neither could get past a nail trim. My current vet (for cats) does not have grooming services so I thought I'd try Dessau Vet Clinic first since they DO have grooming services.

I discussed her situation with the staff and was ready to go with sedation as I was DESPERATE to get my dog groomed. I received a call a few hours after I dropped her off expecting them to ask for permission to sedate her but much to my surprise they told me she was done! She looks great! On top of all that I felt the cost for flea/tick/heartworm prevention was reasonable. DVC will be our long term vet. AND, we'll start taking our three cats there, too!

Awesome vet! They always go over and beyond for my dogs. We currently have 4! They have saved me a bunch of money dealing with my Great Dane with a ear issue, and calmed my nerves and let me know other things were not as bad as I expected. Thanks to everyone there!

Brought my adopted doxie here to have heartworm treatment, and a couple growths removed. They did an awesome job. The growths have not returned and you can't even tell where they were. One was even on the edge of his eyelid.

I have known since Peter was a puppy that he would have special needs in his life. He was always just a little sick, not to mention a handful when visiting a vet clinic. When I moved to Austin you took Peter on without hesitation, knowing his history and behavior. I don't know what we would have done without you the past several years. You have been patient, compassionate and honest.

I believe you always knew he was the biggest part of my life. When Peter was diagnosed terminal cancer you did everything possible to keep us together as long as possible. I will always be indebted to you for that. The last several months have meant everything to me. I know I would have lost him much earlier without your help. I believe you are an angel.

You truly took care of my boy as if he were your own. I could thank you every day for the rest of my life and it would still not be enough. I couldn't have survived this horrible time without you. You are truly the best.

Just a quick "thank you" note for seeing Raine on such short notice...but an even bigger thank you for the DAP collar you recommended. Although all the literature indicated that it might take up to two weeks for the DAP collar to work, a lot of the literature said it can start working much sooner. Although I just put the collar on Raine yesterday, she is remarkably calm today--I had furniture delivered, and the deliverymen were just a big deal to her at all (that's a first)!

Even more, Raine hasn't been frantically barking at the neighbor kids next door at all today, nor has she chased the cat... I wouldn't have thought the DAP collar would impact the cat at all, but she's now walking around the house calmly--no mad dashing to "beat" Raine. Yeah! Thanks again!
