Dr. Robert Rill specializes in small and exotic animal medicine as well as surgery, and Dr. Tyrene Fellman specializes in internal medicine, oncology, and exotic medicine. Together with our veterinary hospital team , our staff is able to offer a comprehensive suite of services to care for your pet. We provide medical, dental and surgical services to care for the changing needs of your growing pet. Our vet staff is trained to provide urgent care and emergency veterinary treatment during our regular business hours. We are open 6 days a week to accommodate any busy schedule and work to get your pet seen as soon as possible.

From dogs to rats, cats to amphibians, the University Animal Clinic serves the needs of all types of pets in Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, Bradenton, and surrounding communities. Our animal clinic’s highly skilled veterinarians and trained personnel are on hand six days a week, with our animal hospital open 8:30 a. m. to 6 p. m. Monday to Friday and 8 a. m. to 1 p. m. on Saturdays. Led by a knowledgeable veterinary team, our animal hospital offers emergency procedures, urgent care, and a wide array of services for cats, dogs, and exotic pets.

As an AAHA-Accredited vet, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine available, along with friendly, compassionate service that you can trust.

Our services include check-ups, annual exams, and preventative medicine (wellnessplans). We offer a full range of vaccinations that include rabies, distemper, kennel cough, and the newest rattlesnake vaccine.
As every pet owner knows, pets may become sick, develop health conditions or become pregnant over time. To help your furry friend, University Animal Clinic has veterinarians with ultrasound experience. An ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive procedure that scans your pet using high-frequency waves. These waves reflect into the hand-held probe against your pet's skin, and the pattern of the reflected waves is what creates the live image you will see on the screen.Looking closer at a specific organ or soft tissue (thyroid, tendons, ligaments, eyes, fetal viability and development).
Proper veterinary care is essential for pet health. And the majority of U.S. households get their pets regular veterinary care. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, in 2016 - the last year for which data are readily available - about 73% of pet-owning households took their pets to the vet.

I ran a statewide dog rescue for 6 years and took most of them to vets myself. I also have had many dogs, cats, and exotics and have experience with most vets in the area. When Dr K retired, I thought I'd never find anyone like him. I went through many other vets, and am just blown away by the care I received at UAC. I've never met receptionists or vet techs who are more kind and friendly.
I was telling a receptionist about losing my dog and she started crying, and she didn't even know her. She was so compassionate. I was trying to find vaccinations that wouldn't break the bank for a kitten I found in the parking lot, UAC was the only place that would help me right away and at a very affordable price. They didn't try to upcharge me on things that weren't needed, gave me a discount for being a first time client, and having such a great experience helped me make the decision to keep the kitten. Dr Dakin was so sweet and made my scared dog feel so much better.
The facility is high tech, very clean, and conveniently located, and they see exotics too! I feel like I hit the jackpot and will recommend them to anyone. So grateful I found this place!

I absolutely loved my experience at University Animal Clinic! They were incredibly kind to my dog and myself. They were reasonable and didn't push anything upon us that we charge extra! I highly recommend! Also to note, I am really specific with my dogs care so this is coming from someone with high standards!

Bella is terminally ill but at least now she is back to living her life the fullest thanks to your guidance and gods grace. Unfortunately, the other vets we went to would not offer to help her or acknowledge her which put a heavy burden on my heart on my next steps towards her life. By your team simply having a heart to at least try and offer some ideas, I felt comfortable enough to try one last time and it has been a blessing.
We cherish every day with her and hope we have many more, we would not have had any if not for your guidance. Thank you from my whole heart and may god bless your practice and please never give up hope for these situations for pet owners. If you are in search of an avian vet in the area look no further! I had a difficult time finding anyone who would see my bird, but am so glad I found University Animal Clinic. Dr. Sam is so sweet and knowledgeable. The staff is also very friendly and were a great help with the multiple appointments we had to make for an eye infection. The clinic is very clean.
You never feel like you are leaving your feathered friend in bad hands. I was nervous for the sedation and operation on my bird, but he was in great hands and when I picked him up he was in great spirits. Bonus - the pricing is very reasonable unlike other places that quoted me over 4x the price at University Animal Clinic. Thank you for taking good care of your patients!

We were very impressed by the care our elderly Pomeranian received. Dr. Pearl took the time to go over options and make sure we understood and felt comfortable with the health issues our Snowey is facing. We are here for the winter so he was treating exisiting conditions. They took the time to reach out to our vet at home to make sure we proceeded in the right direction. We will definately be back should the need arise. Thanks to the University Animal Clinic and Dr. Pearl!

We recently changed vets for our animals which is a scary thing to do with our fur babies but I am so glad we did! The staff and doctors are wonderful with our animals, very kind and attentive to them. Our dog is not afraid to go which says a lot. Thank you to everyone at UAC for making us feel so comfortable.

They all know our boys by name and they love all the hugs and kisses they get there! Definitely highly recommend this clinic if your animals are like your people =

Let me just say how impressed we are with University Animal Clinic and how they took care of my hamster. I have been to multiple exotic small pets and many have disregarded a lot of my little guys symptoms or haven't given him time of day. If you have any rodents or small pets definitely have Dr. Sam take a look. She was attentive and kind and did multiple tests to make sure we ruled out all possibilities. She definitely has a clear passion for her work. If you want to feel heard and have your small pet taken care of, here's your place.

I had such a perfect experience. The staff and doctors were so genuine and sincere, I almost couldn't believe it. My dog suffers from anxiety, but the receptionist, tech and doctor made her experience go better than I could have ever expected. Their patience and kindness is outstanding, they make refilling or getting medications super easy, and they're just so easy to work with.

Dr. Leigh Samanowitz and every other person I've dealt with at University Animal Clinic has been wonderful! As long as I live in this area I will bring all of my pets here. Their thoughtful attention to detail (Like calling the day after a rabies shot to make sure there were no reactions) and vast knowledge will put you at ease no matter what you need for your animals.

We recently had to put our beloved 14 year old Westie down. The entire staff from the very first phone call until we received his ashes. My daughters were tyring to figure out how to get his paw print last minute. In a card we received after the visit, they included his paw print. Our hearts runneth over! The Dr treated Jester as if it were her own pet.
The tech was extremely sympathetic to our needs. What they didn't know is he had Jester since he was 15 weeks old and our girls were 8 and 11 at the time. Jester was our "son and brother" and my 50 year old husbands only pet he has ever had. They loved on him as much as we would have. I would recommend them to anyone with a pet. If and when we decide to bring in another dog into our family, they will be our vet again! Thank you for all the love and support for our Pup and his human family.

We visited Dr. Sam for the first time today with our two cocker spaniels. Our first clear indication of what the practice was like came when Kasey took the histories on the girls: she was efficient, knowledgable, and very pleasant. Then Dr. Sam came in. She was energetic, reassuring to the dogs, easy to talk to, and willing to discuss a couple of concerns with us without talking down to us.

In my experience these vet professionals of some of the very best. They always do a great job in making my chihuahua, Lola, feel comfortable and at ease. They really put a whole lot of love into what they do and it really shows. Personnel is also very friendly and understanding. Brandi in reception is very helpful and always has a smiling face to welcome us each time we come in. Casey, one of the vet techs, is wonderful and Lola really feels right at home with her. Dr. Fink, the veterinarian, is extremely thorough in her evaluations and great at explaining things to make owners feel comfortable.

Really pleased with the care my dogs have received! Most recently, my Doberman Marley had orthopedic surgery and she received the very best attention. The techs are wonderful and were instrumental in keeping her calm and happy in the crate (which she hates). One tech even followed me home to assist in lifting Marley out of the car. Dr. Fink was great about coordinating the cardiologist and surgeon and staying in touch with both of them (and me!) to ensure a successful surgery. Thanks to all at UAC!

I recently adopted 2 kittens from an area shelter. Brought them to University Animal Clinic for their first check up. Staff at the front desk were professional and friendly. The nurse working with Fergie and Finnegan was very kind to my furbabies, and very informative to me. Dr.Sam has an amazing bedside manner! Everyone works well together, and you immediately get the feel that these guys really love their jobs :) And the facilities? Well, let's just say that when you walk in the door, all you see and smell is CLEAN! I highly recommend this clinic!

My ball python had a thermal burn, when I first noticed, I immediately made an appointment (after beginning initial treatments of course.) I made the appointment through petdesk since the office was closed and made it for two days after, assuming they wouldn't be able to serve a next day scheduled appointment. to my surprise they called me first thing in the morning after I had made the appointment, asking if I could come in that morning.
This showed how much they genuinely care about your pet's health. They got me in right away after a bit of paperwork, the nurse was very knowledgeable and asked every question to make sure that the care I was giving was what my pet needed, and the doctor made sure that to let me know all the possible signs that I would need to come back for. everything I could ask for in a veterinarian, and so happy they were there when my boy needed them!

I couldn't be happier with my first visit there today for my new conure Missylou. Dr. Samanowitz is an extremely knowledgeable avian vet, very thorough, professional and friendly.. She answered all my questions and concerns and was also mindful of my budget. The techs are very talented as well and a very friendly and organized front desk staff made it a total pleasure. Lots of satisfied customers there, beautiful place, very clean. I would highly recommend this vet!

When I first got my dog I started at a different vet. The vet was okay but when I switched to University Animal Clinic I realized how more attentive they were with my dog and how much information they were able to provide me about her breed. My dog hates coming to the vet and has never gotten used to nail trims but the staff deals very well with my baby's fears. Thank you!!
