Dr. Dendtler is so kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate. All the staff there from the wonderful receptionist to the vet techs made me and my dog Milo feel so comfortable. My dog is a 70lb pitbull with severe fear aggression at the vet. They were so loving towards him. It was like he was theirs. Taking him to the vet has always been an anxiety inducing ordeal but today was so different.
I even thought that he might need to be sedated from previous vet experiences, but they said it wasn't necessary and handled him with skill and love. I feel confident in the care we received and will definitely continue Milos care with Dr. Dendtler and the rest of the team. Highly recommend! Thank you all for taking such good care of us

I brought my Yorkie, Papi, to Dr Dendtler for the first time last November for a collapsed trachea. He was diagnosed elsewhere and after a couple of months he showed very little improvement, even while on medication. To say he was very lethargic and listless would be an understatement. When I say that Dr Demeter examined Papi from A to Z, this is no exaggeration.
She changed his medication and suggested a few lifestyle changes and in a week or shortly thereafter, Papi was BETTER than back to normal. He has the energy of a puppy. I'm getting misty eyed when I say I really thought there was no help for him. I would definitely recommend Dr Dendtler to anyone. Thank you so much.

Dr. Dendtler and all the staff at Clinton Hill Animal Clinic are the best! Dr. Dendtler takes great care of our cat. She goes the extra mile to make sure our "senior" cat gets proper care. When there is a problem or issue Dr. Dendtler is attentive, incredibly responsive and proactive. She is intelligent, knowledgeable, resourceful & professional. Recently our cat had a medical crisis & Dr Dendtler worked diligently to get him back on track. He is now healthier & happier than ever! Thank you Dr. D!

Dr. Dendtler is a fantastic vet. She has been taking care of our cat for the past 10+ years. Dr. Dendtler accurately diagnosed our cat's diabetes & worked tirelessly with us to get him on the right dose of insulin. Her care, concern and communication with us throughout that ordeal was extraordinary-above & beyond. In addition to being a great vet Dr. Dendtler is a warm and caring person.
Her staff (especially L.J., John & Leticia) is equally wonderful - both professional & personable. We highly recommend Clinton Hill Animal Clinic for any and all veterinary care!

My partner and I, along with our new vet, have been asking for them to send over our dog's medical records for around 3 weeks now. They still have not for whatever reason. At one point they even told our new vet they "don't have any record of that pet" despite her having blood work, anesthesia, dental work, etc at clinton hill. This place is super disorganized and crazy expensive.

The vet is expensive, they are rude, and they keep your pet waiting for hours. I had a bad experience with this vet. We scheduled an appointment for my cat at 1pm, and I took it there. Because of COVID, I couldn't go inside (understandable), but they had my cat 4 hours waiting in his carrier. Then they called me and said that the cat was anxious and hard to work with (maybe because of having him 4 hours waiting in who knows where?!). They asked me to sedate the cat for the next time. (This experience was a year ago, I doubt something changed since then, but you never know)

I had a long draft in my mind for a review, but I realized it wasn't the quantity of the words but rather the quality of the words. Quite simply, I've been coming here for many years, most recently the last eight with my two cats. The care, concern and the level of personalized service provided by Dr. Dendtler and her very dedicated staff rivals what I receive from my own doctor. I can't think of any higher praise than that.

My dog ate a poisonous chocolate bar with xylitol and I called there desperate, and they just referred me to call an unaffiliated animal poison control hotline. So I called them paid a $65 fee, wasted 20 minutes for the hotline to tell me nothing useful except that I have to take the dog into a vet. So I call Clinton Hill back and then she says "we're closing sorry." These people are awful, did not care about my dog and I am so worried, while I desperately call around a bunch of other random animal hospitals in BK. DON'T COUNT ON THIS PLACE FOR ANY KIND OF EMERGENCY.

Clinton Hill Animal Clinic and Dr. Dendtler literally saved our cat Louie's life. We initially went to an emergency hospital after our cat started suddenly vomiting. After x-rays, an ultrasound, and some blood work (and $3K in bills), we were sent home with them telling us nothing was wrong with him. He kept vomiting - we called them and told them it was continuing to happen and the emergency hospital said it didn't sound serious and that he'd be fine.
A week and a half later, we could tell that something wasn't right, so we took him to CHAC. It was only then that our cat started getting the help he needed. Immediately, Dr. Dendtler was on the case and said we had to get to the bottom of what was going wrong with him. Again, we would do an ultrasound and blood work. They determined there was a mass in his intestines causing him to vomit.
We did an exploratory surgery, and they removed the mass and sewed him back up. We found out this week that he had a very rare case in which his intestine had folded in on itself. If we had left it just a couple of days longer, he would have died. From the start, Dr. Dendtler took Louie's case very seriously and made us truly feel like she had our backs (and even said as much), making sure we could squeeze him in for last minute surgery, informing us of the risks.
Most importantly, I knew she wasn't going to rest til we figured out what was wrong with him and had done everything possible to save his life- and even though the other vets we took our cat to were compassionate, she was the first vet we saw where we actually felt like she was caring but also truly dedicated and determined. We are extremely grateful for the excellent care he received.
They really did live up to their motto of "treating every pet as their own." We would recommend CHAC to anyone. Thank you so much guys. We honestly cry thinking about it and are so glad we took him to you and that our cat got the care he needed.

This review is based on the experience and not the actual examination. I made an appointment for my cat at a specific time, the day before I received a call from the clinic to confirm my appointment time and was asked to bring a stool sample in. That's it. No other information or warning that my appointment time meant nothing. When I showed up for my appointment, I was told they will have my cat for several hours (!).
Four hours went by and I finally got a call from the vet that I could come and pick up my cat, and that the stool sample I was requested to bring in was going to cost me an extra $125 to be examined, which was never disclosed to me. So between that, the vet visit cost, and the rabies shot, I was charged ~$250, and they kept my cat locked away in conditions that weren't disclosed to me for over 4.5 hours in total. Not to mention, my cat was given a "perfect" bill of health so obviously a stool sample examination was completely unnecessary.

I love this clinic. Dr Dentler and her staff were kind and communicated well with us. My bunny needed surgery and Clinton Hill Animal Clinic was the perfect place to go to. They did an amazing job of taking care of him. I'm so glad I bought him there. Also, the staff was professional even though I was going crazy and a nervous reck on the day of surgery, their professionalism calmed me down. 10/10 will recommend.

All the reviews I have read is exactly what I have seen. - long wait times to even be seen, over 1.5 hour and then once you finally get in, the appointment can still be around 1-2 hours depending on what you are getting done. On the other hand, a 15 min blood test costs $300! - no communication between receptionist/ nurse and client. My dog has a liver issue and took medication for a month and was told to come back to test levels again.
He finished the meds, we couldn't get an appointment right away, had to wait a week and then they say he may have to go back on the meds because it's been a week! Mind you the medication was overpriced as well. - I've had animals my whole life and never have spent more on vet bills than at Clinton Hill Animal Clinic. - Say they are going to ring you/ email you and half the time, I don't hear anything and need to ring them. - healthy paws insurance reached out to them for my dogs records so I can start claiming.
It's been two months and they are still waiting for those records. Everything seems disorganised and for the prices you are paying, I'd expect a lot better customer service. I think I am at my limit and as close as the vet is to our house, I think it's time to find another vet. Very disappointing.

My dog was throwing up persistently. This place charged me $750 to have a number of things done to my dog (including x-rays, food, medication) and still could not give me a straight answer as to the issue with her. Turns out the dog was simply dehydrated and just needed fluids. This, people, is what we call incompetence.

I just personally didn't feel comfortable dealing with this clinic, I was told one thing by the nurse and a total different thing from the doctor. I went there for an emergency appointment witch I was very glad to be able to do. Upon arrival everything went good, they did the best they can as Covid is active right now and still a threat. Up until I spoke with the doctor on the phone.
My dog has a UTI and I've seen the symptoms before as I have took him to another clinic and got the issues resolved for $375. When I was telling the doctor about my dog symptoms she seemed very Judgmental. It's OK to love the animals and be upset when you see that they are in pain but if I'm coming to you for help I expect you to work with me not to seem against me.
She wanted to run a series of test that the previous veterinarian did not feel the need to do that was going to run me about $265. I wouldn't mind spending the money as I do care a lot for my dog and would love to see him in better health but I would never spend my money where I feel I'm not respected. Anyway this is my experience you might have a different one, thanks for reading glad to provide my experience.

Animal lovers! Read the terrifying reviews before you go here! And notice how many of them there are. And how the vet just doesnt see fit to respond to their own customers. Some reviews are truly heartbreaking. Having said that - don't make the mistake of going to Pure Paws nearby. They killed my cat. Banfield is great. And much cheaper and transparent with fees.

I have read every single review here and can't shake the feeling that Dr. Dentler and the staff are running "a shady auto repair shop" as one of the other yelpers so aptly noted. There are way too many negative experiences expressed especially by cat owners, the extra charges, over-testing, prescirption food promotion. My elderly cat was 14 at the time I brought her in last year and had only seen a vet once before about 8 years prior- she is a healthy indoor cat and has never been ill.
She is quite temperamental with other people, and is definitely the cat that will be DIFFICULT at the vet. In fact, I had brought this up with CHAC when I made the appointment and asked if there was any way she could be slightly sedated, and addressed it again the day of the appointment and was told this was not necessary. Regardless, I felt it was time for a check-up in her old age.
Nothing prepared me for the insanity that ensued, two vet techs held her down with large leather-like gloves that covered their arms and put a towel over her face as Dr Dentler got to work. My poor cat was hissing and scratching trying to get away- it felt like a moment from the exorcist, I was worried that she was going to have a heart attack. She was so stressed out she shit herself on the examining table.
I was in tears. Dr Dentler was asking me along the way if I wanted this or that tested for and quickly quoted me prices as my cat was being held down and clearly in distress- I said yes to everything just to be done with the exam. Also figuring since she hadn't been to the vet in ages that it couldn't hurt to get tested for all the things Dr Dentler brought up. $1000 later, after what I thought would be a regular check-up, going through the bill I noted that in the frantic commotion during the examination as Dr Dentler was quoting prices, she had misquoted one of the tests- it was for checking a lump to see if it was a tumor, basically a biopsy (the most expensive item she quoted so it definitely stuck out in my mind even during the chaos of the examination).
I really got into this with the male receptionist and later with Dr Dentler over the phone. Neither conversation was pleasant at all, raised voices, condescending language, close to tears again. She ended up taking $50 off the bill. Not bad for what I thought was going to be a $200 visit. Right? My cat's tests turned out well, aside from Dr Dentler noting that she had the beginnings of renal failure and would need a special prescription diet.
So now she has been on the Hill's Kidney Care dry food and we have a regular order through Chewy delivered every 7 weeks. I have received 1-2 notices in the mail from CHAC that my cat needs to come in for a check up. And to be honest the LAST thing I want to do is put her through the stress of another visit to the vet when it is unnecessary- I mean she literally shit herself!
She is 15 years old and although healthy, I don't think her heart and mind can take that kind of stress again. After a year of getting this special prescription food it stopped arriving. I called Chewy and they said that CHAC told them to stop calling them until I bring my cat in for a check-up. The Chewy rep had that in her notes, apparently they had called CHAC one too many times.
So they are not only rude to customers, but Chewy reps as well! I am pretty shocked that Dr Dentler wouldn't renew my cat's prescription diet a year later knowing how traumatic bringing her back in would be. She is elderly and she is not sick, so I see no reason to put her through the trauma. Am sure CHAC would like nothing more than to do another round of needless $1000 tests and vaccinations. No thanks.

We have trusted Dr. Dentler and company with three dogs so far, all of them beloved family members, and time after time she has proven to be extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and intuitive. She has diagnosed tricky conditions other vets have missed, and recently my dog went through surgery with her team. we were treated with such care and concern.
All the staff in this office, from LJ at the front desk to the vet techs who help administer care, have treated us-- and our animals-- with respect and dedication. Strongly recommend this place, i have not met a smarter vet in this city.

This place is a hidden gem full of true professionals. I say that as a longtime pet owner with an even more discerning spouse when it comes to where we send our animals. Dr. Dentler is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to our dogs' care. She caught an early-stage congenital heart condition in our first dog (that our previous vet had overlooked), and helped us manage treatment in the final year of our pup's life.
We have since taken two more of our dogs to her, and time & again I am impressed by her knowledge as well as intuition. Recently she questioned a diagnosis from an ER vet when my dog was violently ill, and thank god she did! She & their surgeon rescued a foreign body from his stomach area that might have killed him. Throughout this ordeal, she has been in constant contact, super thorough, followed up with me voluntarily, the whole deal.
I should also say that the rest of the staff is also terrific. The vet techs have been consistent (very little turnover there) and they remember our pets, and are so caring & loving. Their front-desk staffer LJ is incredibly dedicated & capable, and handles a mountain of work (as well as needy pet owners) with grace and patience. We've been through other various health adventures with them beyond what's mentioned here, but the surgery experience really put into perspective for me how skilled and dedicated this office is.
They stayed hours late with my dog just to make sure he was healthy enough to go home with me. I am not going to lie - NYC vet prices are all insane. Not all of that is in the vets' control - tests cost more here, as does office space. But they have never not worked with us if we were having to make a tough financial decision about care, and they don't ever harangue or guilt-trip us if there's a treatment we just can't afford. And now that pet insurance is ubiquitous, they handle that paperwork for us too. We trust these folks with our family. That's that.

Don't go, unless you have no where to spend your money. They charge too much for each things and doctor still can't figure out what's wrong with my cat. To be honest they are really nice both the staff and doctor but the price is insane and use your vulnerability to convince you to do all the test. Worst part is they still can't find what's wrong with my cat and FYI they charge extra $10 for items that you can get cheaper on amazon.

I had been bringing my Siberian kitten, Oksana, to Clinton Hill Animal Clinic since I got her in December. The veterinarians seemed to be knowledgable. However, the receptionist LJ, is extremely pushy and attempts to up-sell, often unnecessary, services. His organizational skills seem to be lacking which impacts your wait time, affecting the urgency of care.
At these prices, one would expect a better level of service. In mid-April we chose to have Oxy spayed here. She was examined by a veterinarian prior to the surgery and was deemed healthy enough to go under the knife. It appeared that the surgery went well. She was recovering nicely at home and, upon her follow-up visit one week later, I was assured that everything was healing properly.
Around three weeks after her follow-up appointment, Oxy began to show signs that something was wrong. She was not eating regularly and appeared to be constipated. Upon calling and speaking with LJ a few days after first noticing her symptoms he told me that he would speak with the doctor and call me back in several minutes. It was evident to him that I was quite concerned.
After an hour of not hearing back from LJ and knowing that the practice would not be open the next day I reached out to other providers. By the time LJ finally called me the following day, I had already made alternate arrangements with a veterinarian who was recommended to me. Heartbreakingly, I was informed by both this veterinarian and Verg Animal Hospital, that Oxy was seriously ill with either FIP or Lymphoma.
I was shown a x-ray of a large mass in her abdomen which was putting pressure on her other organs. Sadly, there was no hope for any type of recovery and, today, I had to put my 7 month old kitten down. Upon calling the clinic, they disavowed any responsibility for failing to notice this large tumor and proceeding with an invasive surgery. While I cannot say that they were the cause of her situation, I feel that they were certainly negligent.
Not only would I have never put her through this procedure had I known that she did not have long to live, but we spent a small fortune on her surgery, trusting, falsely, that she was receiving the best care. This loss has been a major blow to me and my boyfriend. I am writing this review to help warn any prospective clients. Please do not go to Clinton Hill Animal Clinic with your beloved pet.

The first time we took our kittens here seemed fine. We had to get an injection for one of our cats and the other cat had worms so we had to get that treated. We administered the worm medicine as prescribed and the medicine didn't work at all. She now has worms again and we will be treating it elsewhere. They also tried to convince us to do all of these expensive tests and treatments, even though our kittens are very healthy and happy.
Our bill was astronomical just for an injection, worm medicine and nail clippings for both of them. Also the receptionist was EXTREMELY rude to us every time we have called. Would not recommend this place for your pet!

This is the most overpriced and uncaring vet I have ever been to. They are far more focused on collecting money than caring for your pets. I came in with an emergency, my dog was barely conscious and they made me pay $95 before even letting me fill out an intake form. By the time I left the bill was $500 and they couldn't even tell me what was wrong. The receptionist is such a miserable passive aggressive jerk I cannot comprehend how they are still in business.

The only thing these guys know how to do is jack up the price of anything. You can get almost the same "generic" branded items that are prescribed to your animal on Amazon for 1/4th of the price CHAC is providing. The vet treated me like I was an idiot. She was also 30 minutes late to our appointment. Even if you live close, I don't recommend going to this place at all.

I hate this place. I can't give it less than 2 stars because my dog is alive and well after 6+ years of going here, but I am officially making the switch. The receptionist takes his job much too seriously. He is not a doctor, but acts as though he is doing very important work behind that window. I have never seen him smile, and the wait time is ridiculous.
I loathe the way he closes the glass to talk on the phone - writing down appointment details as if he is solving world hunger, and reluctantly calls me over when he is complete with his task. He has no ability to multi task or prioritize, and is insanely arrogant. As for the doctors - they are fine. We have seen a few at this point but Dr. Dentler, most consistently.
She is good - thorough and knowledgable - but has no sense of humor and makes you feel like the worst pet owner for questioning some of the vaccines and tests. But I must warn you.if you don't question the necessity, your bill will be outrageous! They totally take advantage of the little amount people know about pet medicine, and make every single thing seem urgent and necessary.
And how am I supposed to know?! I love my dog and want him to be healthy, so I normally agree, but always always leave there feeling like I was taken advantage of. This is especially true of emergency visits, of course. So why have I continued to go for 6 years? It is very close to my apartment, they have all of my dog's records, and I really like to support local business. But I'm out. See ya.c
