Mandarin Animal Hospital Since 1965 Mandarin Animal Hospital has been a vibrant and vital home for pet owners throughout Jacksonville and surrounding communities. Throughout our history we have strived to provide the highest level of care and service to our clients and their pets while continually updating our facility to remain at the leading edge of veterinary care.

From 1990 to 2010 Dr. Robert E. Gordon was dedicated to building on the original owner's vision for a full-service state-of-the-art facility, which included building a substantial addition to the facility. This allowed the hospital to offer a wider range of services and update equipment.

In January of 2011, Dr. James L. Mosley, Jr., purchased the practice and set about continuing its development. This included upgrading the Hospital's laboratory equipment, bringing in new anesthetic equipment to provide even safer anesthesia, and computerized radiography, which provides more rapid diagnostic capabilities, enhanced image quality, and the ability to quickly consult with specialists.

While Dr. Mosley and his staff will continue to find ways to improve the quality of care and service at Mandarin Animal Hospital, many aspects of the hospital will not change. We will continue with our flexible scheduling, hire only the best and most committed staff, provide excellent customer service at all times, price our services fairly and competitively, and maintain the highest quality medical and surgical services.
Services

We believe the foundation of quality care is preventative veterinary medicine matched with a commitment to embracing new knowledge and cutting-edge technology.

Dr. James L. Mosley, Jr.
Veterinarian/ Owner/ President
A native of Jacksonville, Dr. James L. Mosley, Jr. is a General Practitioner and Owner of Mandarin Animal Hospital. He has worked at the Hospital in one capacity or another since June of 1996.

When asked who inspired him to become a veterinarian, Dr. Mosley says, My mentor Dr. Robert Gordon, Jr., from whom I purchased the practice was a huge motivator. I first met him when I was 6-years-old when he graduated from the University of Missouri with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree. He began providing equine services at my dad's small ranch north of Jacksonville and from that moment forward I followed him around in amazement of the things he was doing. At the age of 16, I began working at his small animal practice at all levels.

Beyond his experience with Dr. Gordon, Dr. Mosley grew up taking care of horses, donkeys, rabbits and a menagerie of other farm animals as well as participating in barrel racing, roping, and other riding related events. He was also a member of 4-H and showed his rabbits and horses at various fairs and events.

For his undergraduate studies Dr. Mosley attended the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002. In 2004, he enrolled in the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. During his time in veterinary school he earned a number of honors, which includes membership in Phi Zeta Society, Elsevier Small Animal Surgery Award (judged by the faculty to have the best psychomotor skills in small animal surgery), the Clarence and Lucille Dee Scholarship, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Mosley's areas of particular professional interest include surgery, dentistry, dermatology and internal medicine. He also holds USDA accreditation in for the issuance of health certificates and credentialed by Vet-Stem in Regenerative Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Society, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Heartworm Society, American Association of Feline Practitioners and the American Animal Hospital Association.

Now that he is a practicing veterinarian, Dr. Mosley says,The satisfaction of preventing disease and healing sick patients whose care people have entrusted to me is very rewarding. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing the reaction of a client whose pet is recovering from a successful surgery or illness.

Dr. Mosley is married to Dr. Tiffany Mosley'a small animal veterinarian and says, We met at and graduated together from veterinary school and it is great to share a marriage, family and profession together. She is an amazing wife, mother and colleague. The couple has a daughter named Keeley Reese Mosley, born on June 11, 2010, and a son due in October of 2011.

At home, Dr. Mosley has a Chihuahua named Alli, a Labrador Retriever named Cruise, and four cats named Tater, Pistol, Kitty, and Sadie. His interests include basketball, working out, inshore and offshore fishing, and horseback riding.

The staff seems very new. Mr Dr Mosley is very distant from the pet and owner. Unknown why. Although both dogs are very healthy i as an owner ate expected to visit for duplicate services such as bordatella are expected again after 6 months( on grown dogs). There is zero reason for revisiting except the office trying tp make $$$. I dont mind the stupid experience once a year, but twice pushed my buttons. There is zero rationale.

This place goes above and beyond to treat animals with the utmost care. They are straight forward and do not play games or charge for unnecessary services. I will always recommend this place to friends and family.

I presently have 3 German Shepherds and 2 cats. Dr's James and Tiffany Mosley are awesome veterinarians. They are great at keeping up with all the normal visits, shots and care. What makes them exceptional is when you encounter a problem. My 7 year old Shepherd was diagnosed a year ago with severe hip dysplasia. The protocol they put Brisa on has made an awesome difference. She is bossing around 2 year and a half old puppies. It is this extent of knowledge and care combined that makes them so very, very good.

What can I say when it comes to an amazing Vet that hasn't already been said by all the other 5-star posts in this review section? The staff is very accommodating, the technicians are very caring and the doctors (Dr. Tiffany and Dr. James) are very knowledgeable and communicate on a level that a "basic dog dad" can understand. I have two dogs and they both get excellent care!

My oldest dog had a really bad skin infection that had me very worried and I was unable to leave my house due to car troubles. Dr. Tiffany was so accommodating that, after work, she stopped by to give my dog some meds. I know this isn't typical for businesses (particularly vets) to do something like this, but I think she heard the desperation in my voice and went above and beyond to help my dog.

I'm happy to say that my dog responded positively to the medication and he's back to his old self! Thank you, Dr. Tiff, Dr. James and all the staff at Mandarin Animal Hospital! You have my 4-legged animals business for as long as I have them!

I had an emergency with my cat and my vet was closed. I had to put my elderly cat down, she was so frail and beyond saving. The vet fit me in and had a room ready for me as soon as I walked in the door (I did not have an appointment). They afforded me the privacy and time to say goodbye to my sweet girl. This was very appreciated since I am not a regular patient and I was a walk in.

The staff was so professional and considerate of my emotions. I greatly appreciate them taking their time to make this transition as easy as possible. Thank You for being so caring during this difficult time.

My experience was very disturbing. I was a walk-in for a sick pet. However, I am an existing customer. In my opinion, the staff and vet lacked complete empathy towards my pet. At the time, my pet was not eating and had become lethargic. When I arrived, my pet was taken into an examination room without my presence. I was informed to stay in the waiting room.

During the examination, the vet made no direct contact or communication with me; which was troubling. The information was disseminated through a vet tech. The prescribed treatment options appeared financially motivated, as opposed to effectively strategizing to enhance quality of life. Subsequently after my visit (3 days), my pet's health declined and I followed up with an alternative veterinary hospital.

My pet, sadly, had to be put down. The prescribed treatment options, lack of communication and professionalism from Mandarin Animal Hospital are a few reasons why I would never return nor recommend them.

My dog was extremely sick with pancreatitis and they took very good care of her. I would recommend 100%. The entire staff was friendly and understanding.

Alright, apparently the veterinary profession isn't much different than used auto sales. After parting ways with Forever Vets on Baymeadows because of their monthly subscription fee model that offsets all of these tremendous phantom savings that you receive when you do need help, I tried to schedule an appointment with Mandarin Animal Hospital. I had an appointment scheduled for this afternoon (8.17.2021) which they confirmed twice over the weekend and once yesterday.

I receive a phone call this morning to let me know that the doctor had something come up and needed to reschedule. Okay, fine, we're not off to a great start but okay I get it. We reschedule for the following Monday afternoon. I then receive a call, literally two hours later to inform me that there is a one time non-refundable $35 fee for new clients.

I ask the lady that called me if she's familiar with the word "irony" and tell her to cancel the appointment. Are you kidding me? I want to believe that maybe I just avoided being social engineered by a shady employee there out to get people's credit card numbers over the phone or something because I just don't understand how anyone conducts business this way - be it a veterinarian or a fishmonger. What is happening in this world? (Note the response below - everything you need to know is there.in short, they don't understand the definition of the word "irony".)

Called this place to attempt to get my cat in for an emergency appointment, the lady that answered the phone was extremely short, had an awful tone and after telling me "fine, hold on" placed me on hold. Needless to say I took my cat somewhere else. If it's your job to answer phones, you should do so without attitude.

Find another vet, notice all the 1 star reviews. Dr. Tiff removed my dogs eyeball( shouldn't have done that)2000.00 dollars, meds prescribed did not work. She claims its my fault and blames me for her lack of ability. I had to euthanize my dog yesterday, because of Tiff. So very heart breaking this whole ordeal. Find another vet. She's snarky and unprofessional. Heavy sigh.

They love our dogs like they are their own. Everyone is so friendly and they always remember the finer details about your pets, we have one dog that is very anxious and they go out of their way to make sure she is extra comfortable during her visits. Pricing is fair too.

I do not recommend Mandarin Animal Hospital. The reason we do not recommend Mandarin Animal Hospital is because they are shady as hell, held my dog hostage, and the vet could care less about their customers! Our dog was having some issues with her back and hind legs. We were looking for alternative therapy and heard that acupuncture and laser therapy is a great alternative to surgery.

We called around and chose this location based on price. Well, you get what you pay for! We made the appointment and we had our vet send her records to Mandarin Animal Hospital. Mandarin Animal Clinic called us yesterday to confirm the appointment and they confirmed they received our dog’s records. We arrived today and they said only one person was allowed in the office due to the virus.

I had my daughter with me so we could not go in. This was not a big deal and I totally understood. They said they would take our dog and the vet would call me when he/she began the exam. We waited for the vet to call. The vet never called. I received a call from a vet tech telling me that they did the exam and they found pain in my dog’s front legs and they were going to treat that for us.

I said no, she is not having issues with her FRONT legs. She is having issues with her spine and hind legs. The vet tech said she probably was not showing pain in those areas because she was scared. I said, no, she is not displaying pain in those areas because she doesn’t have any pain today. The pain comes and goes. We explained all this when we made the appointment, and this was in her records.

I said I was told the vet was going to call me? Did you all look at her records? She said, Oh let me check those. She had me on the phone while she read the records. She said, oh we only received her shot records. I said, I don’t feel comfortable with treatment since you all haven’t seen her records, I haven't spoken to the vet, and you haven’t seen where her issues are on her back and hind legs.

She interrupted me and said she can call our vet and get the records. I said it is already late in the day and I do not feel comfortable with you all treating my dog and I would like her back. She said she would have the vet call me. The next call I received was from the front desk asking for payment! I said the vet hasn’t called me and I want my dog back!

She said we need to get this invoice paid. I said so you all are holding my dog hostage until you get payment! She said no we are not holding you dog hostage. I said well the vet hasn’t called me and you all haven’t done anything for my dog and I want her back now. She said if I could just get that credit card number we’ll bring her out. So, I gave her my credit card number and we hung up. I was just about to call 911 when they finally brought my dog out. Like I said, this place is shady as hell and please avoid this place!
Business response
This entire review is blatantly a lie. This client already posted this exact review on social media and when she was not only shut down by the doctor on the case, but also other staff that were present for the appointment in addition to long term clients, she decided to delete it and go through another outlet. We can appreciate disgruntled clients and can also appreciate the concept of addressing a concern. This client was called within 20 minutes of leaving the premises to address any concerns and the client chose not to return our call and again, opted to blast us on social media, which she had already threatened prior to ending the appointment. In addition, the client was offered a refund and the client declined. The refund was offered in writing on social media to the original post and her choice to decline the offer is also in writing (despite the fact the client has deleted the above mentioned social media post, screen shots of the entire post, including responses, has been saved and documented). Absolutely nothing stated above is accurate. Oh, and in her social media blast she did say she was so concerned about her dog and that she considered "calling 911 because we were holding her dog hostage" but I see she did not include that in this review because maybe now she understands how delusional that really sounds. This is exactly what happened: Client scheduled an appointment for a new patient exam. Client was made aware of our COVID protocols which includes, but is not limited to the following: Only 1 adult present with the pet as our exam rooms are very small and do not allow for efficient social distancing, a mask must be worn at all times. C unfortunately arrived with a child and no mask in her possession. Appointment was transitioned into a "curbside" appointment where a staff member goes out to the client's vehicle and transports the pet into the clinic and then all communication happens over the phone with the client. C approved at this point and had no concerns. The complete history was reviewed prior to the exam; there were no notations in the record indicating any of the client's concerns. The client had also not been to her previous vet recently, so the previous exam findings were considered to be helpful but not up to date. A Comprehensive Exam, as requested and scheduled by the client was then performed. A technician then called the client to discuss exam findings, ensure the client did not have any other concerns or questions that needed to be addressed, and discuss treatment / diagnostics options for the exam findings. Client then became very belligerent and combative with the technician stating that the exam findings were not accurate. Technician was unable to have a cohesive conversation with the client to even discuss treatment options based on client's rude demeanor with the technician. Client then stated to the technician that based on the fact that we did not agree with her previous diagnosis, she did "not feel comfortable and she wanted her dog returned to her immediately". The Veterinarian did not get on the phone to reiterate the exact information the technician communicated to the client or to discuss treatment options since the client made it very clear she was not interested in any further interaction. Appointment was considered completed at this time and client was transferred to the receptionist for payment for the exam that was requested and completed by our doctor. The client then became even more belligerent and acted surprised that she would be required to pay for the services that had been requested and completed by the staff. The client then screamed at the receptionist that she would "blow us up on the internet" as you can see she is attempting to do. We will stand by our practices, protocols, and our patient care! We did nothing wrong during the interaction with this client or patient, but in actuality this client spoke terribly to our staff and the verbal abuse that she inflicted on our staff was the most disgusting part of this entire interaction! If we could not recommend her as a client, we would!

We are stationed overseas so my parents have been taking my dog & cat here to complete the difficult process of getting them approved to fly overseas. Dr. Moseley & his staff were so sweet to my dog & cat. Dr. Moseley dealt with the USDA office & handled the crazy issues they were causing. He stayed after hours & came in before office hours to file the paperwork. Mandarin Animal Hospital is professional & will handle your fur baby with love.

I have brought my pets here for almost 10 years. There staff is friendly and helpful. I board my pets there as well and I always feel that they are safe and well cared for in my absence. In the past they have both needed surgery and they have been treated with love and the intent to ease their pain. I would highly recommend this practice. Because it is small you get to know everyone and they get to know your pets.

We have only been patients since the end of August and I am very happy with the care that Lzzy, (yes, I know there is an "i" missing from her name, it was intentional), receives. She had skin and ear issues when I got her and they are now gone. I am quite happy with the care we receive and the staff at the Mandarin Animal Hospital.

I have brought both my dogs here for boarding, exams, acupuncture, laser therapy and vaccines. I buy my high quality dog food here as well. So many services provided under one roof. Our Kitty Kelly just loved going to Mandarin Animal Hospital! She's an older girl, 15, and I was concerned that she might have some geriatric problems. The kind doctors and technicians made sure her experience and mine was pleasant. We were in and out in a timely manner, and she was not stressed at all. Thank you, Mandarin Animal Hospital for your kindness!

My Wife and I have been taking our four legged kids to Mandarin Animal Hospital since they were born and have received nothing but excellent care. James Moseley and his wife Tiffany are highly competent vets, listen to their clients and treat our animals with compassion. If you are looking for a vet for your fur baby, try Mandarin Animal Hospital, they are the absolute best in Jacksonville.

The absolute best! My sweet boy needed surgery, and they were able to schedule super fast. Dr. Moseley is fantastic. He and his staff are professional and caring. I won't take my furbabies anywhere else.

Our experience with the staff was excellent. We brought in what we thought was a stray on short notice and took care of us and the little guy. My fiance and I think highly of the staff as well as the facility. I highly recommend!
