At AMSH, we use Acupuncture and Herbals for your pet with western medicine to help with chronic pain, arthritis, stress, kidney disease, liver disease, seizure activity and many other pet problems. Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) looks at the animal as a whole being. Disease processes are a sign of the body being out of balance.

Blood tests are an essential part of diagnosing what is ailing your pet, just as they are in human medicine. Blood tests can tell the veterinarian a myriad of things, from whether your pet is dehydrated to whether he or she has anemia to whether your cat or dog is suffering from cancer. Red blood cells are used to determine a number of factors.

When was the last time you had your pet's teeth cleaned? According to the AVMA, pets who have never had a teeth cleaning have signs of dental disease by the time they are three years old. For that reason, Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital recommends that all pets have a yearly dental cleaning and oral examination.

Cheryl Pfeffer, DVM is a native of Oklahoma. She grew up in the Shawnee area and always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1990 and her DVM degree in 1995 from Oklahoma State University. During Veterinary School, she completed an internship in exotic animal medicine at Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine where she had the opportunity to work with two zoos. After graduation, she and her husband moved to Dallas where she worked with both companion animals and exotic animals. She came home to Oklahoma in 2005, where she has continued to work with all of the pets that she loves. She joined the family of Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital in 2010.

Dr. Cheryl Pfeffer loves being able to make a differnece in the lives of her patients and their people. She enjoys working with people and their furry, scaled and feathered family members. Her special interests are Dermatology, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Reproduction, Soft tissue Surgery, Feline Medicine, and exotic pet medicine and surgery, including birds, ferrets, sugar gliders, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, hedgehogs and more.
