Chronic pain is cruel. It strikes pets of any breed, at any age. Some pain such as that from a wound will subside with medication and in time as the body heals, but chronic pain will never be cured. Our pets often suffer in silence only showing symptoms of "slowing down" which is often misunderstood for normal aging. Pets will endure more pain than humans can withstand. The most common chronic pain we see in practice is arthritic pain caused by degenerative changes in bones and joints. Pets with a healthy weight live a longer, better quality of life. As pet owners, we can control what and when our pets eat. Proper nutrition is vital for our pet to function properly. Adequate exercise is the cornerstone to having a healthy weight and normal mental health. Our pets depend on us to give them exercise and to make sure they are not overfed or fed the wrong foods. Some weight issues are made worse by underlying health issues. Thyroid disease, heart disease, arthritis, Cushing's disease, diabetes and lung disease can greatly affect our pet's ability to maintain a normal weight or maintain reasonable activity. Behavior issues rank as one of the leading causes for bringing pets to the shelter or owners considering euthanasia in an otherwise healthy pet. Often owners do not realize that Behavior issues can be changed. All pets have the potential to exhibit behavior that may be stressful to an owner or give us concern that our pet is not healthy or happy. Many behaviors may be frustrating to deal with. I've been bringing my dog here since he was two months old (he's almost 2.5 years now). We love Dr. Thornton. He is patient and ensures that you are up to date with your pet's health. If you have any questions or doubts, you are free to make them know, and he does a wonderful job of informing. My dog loves him and the rest of the staff, and I'm sure yours will too!

I recently moved to the area and my supervisor lives in the same area as I do. Knowing that she loves her two dogs so much, I asked her for a vet recommendation and she recommended Southern Hills. I've only had two of my three cat babies there so far but I can tell I've definitely made the right choice. Dr. Thornton (Preston) and Dr. Clarke have been wonderful.
I can tell everyone at this clinic is absolutely dedicated to providing the best care to the animals that they see. I love my cats very very much and it's very nerve-wracking to have to find a new vet when you move and I'm so glad that I found Southern Hills.

We are so pleased with Southern Hills and Dr Thornton. We took our Talia to them for the first time on a Saturday and they got her right in. She's going through a lot, and Dr Thornton explained everything so well and gave us all of the options to help treat her. She's not a young pup, and his knowledge and experience helped calm us all down. Now, a couple weeks later, she's had another episode and we called and Dr Thornton called back to discuss changes to the treatment and offered some additional options to make her more comfortable during this episode. This kind of personalized service coupled with compassion is so important to us during this time.

We were so thankful they could get Sadie in their office to be seen on a Saturday after 12. The staff was thoughtful and interested in getting the details of what we were observing and the vet explained possible causes and treatment options. He asked us our thoughts for a course of action for her care. We are extremely impressed at the service and care received. We will definitely recommend this animal hospital!

We have been taking our dog to Southern Hills since we first got her. From the start of it all- puppy plans, sick visits, shot visits and over all check ups, they have been fantastic and informative on any subject or concern. They have all been pleasant to talk too and took care of our needs. Dr Preston Thornton is amazing! I highly recommend this VET!

On Sunday afternoon I showed up on their doorstep with my almost 12 year old Malamute who had lost the ability to walk overnight. I knew driving there what was possibly happening and it broke my heart. However their staff made the worst day of my life easier. They took care of myself and my dog Molly as if she was their own. I couldn’t be more grateful of that. Till today when I picked her ashes up and just the way she was given back to me was simply heartfelt.
It goes to show that their staff truly cares about anyone who walks through their doors. So thank you... thank you for taking care of not only my girl but my heart as well. I lost a peace of it on Sunday but each of you working made sure I felt completely at ease with the choice I had to make. I cannot thank you enough.

After my sweet pup had his teeth cleaned at another local provider, he became very ill. Apparently, I was not given proper instructions on his care, proper medications, or correct diet instructions. This not only led to him being ill, but making my new puppy ill as well. I was able to be fit in for appointments and have the veterinarian explain, in detail, what should have occurred.
I am very grateful for the personal care and attention and explanations. I do not always know what to ask or comprehend things and I was thankful to have it explained in a way I could understand. My pup is back to his normal self! And I’m in the process of filing a civil suit on the previous provider. I’ve learned you get what you pay for!!! Excellent place, highly recommend! Rooms are very comfortable and stylish and made me feel at ease which helped my pups be less anxious.

5 stars for this clinic! When our Patsy girl got hurt over the weekend we thought our only choice was the emergency clinic. After research we came upon this clinic who offered extended hrs and was able to get us in on a Sunday! Staff was super nice and great to our girl! Dr. Preston was wonderful, knowledgeable, and honest. Nothing was ever pushed on us just recommendations. Fairly inexpensive for an "urgent care". Will recommend this place and return whenever we're out of our vets normal business hours!

The staff was friendly and informative throughout the entire experience from making the appointment over the phone to letting me know what was wrong and what my kittens needed during the visit. Wonderful experience, even my two kittens who received shots seemed to be in good spirits after it was finished. The communication was excellent, and I am pleased with the course of treatment. Safe to say I have found my new vet.

When my dog, Bella, was unable to stand and wasn't bearing weight on one of her front legs, we called for an urgent care appointment. They had an emergency at the same time but the staff was really attentive and apologetic for our having to wait. Dr. Preston was great, very professional and took very good care of Bella who after meds and rest is now feeling much better. I will certainly consider Southern Hills Animal Hospital as my first choice for veterinary care in the future!
