Dental hygiene is an important part of your pet's health because dental disease can be associated with other serious health problems such as heart disease and kidney disease. But how do you know if your pet has a healthy mouth? Let us examine your pet’s teeth and gums to help determine if there are any dental issues you should know about. After a brief visual examination, we may recommend a more detailed examination (which requires sedation) , a dental cleaning, or options for at-home dental care.
Even if you think your pet’s teeth and gums are fine, we can offer expert advice to help you keep them that way! Dental health shouldn’t be taken for granted. Fortunately, many dental problems can be managed through at-home care and by bringing your pet to us for regular dental checkups and teeth cleanings.

Pre-Anesthetic Testing
Report
We offer pre-anesthetic testing that can be done the same day as your procedure, or you can schedule a technician appointment and have them done prior to your scheduled procedure.
We offer a complete blood cell count (CBC) and a blood chemical analysis. Blood work is a basic evaluation tool.
The CBC determines the number of red blood cells, the number and type of white blood cells, the number of platelets, the hemoglobin level, and the hematocrit. Platelets are clotting proteins and indicate how fast your pet’s blood can clot; slow clotting can be a serious problem.
A chemistry panel tests kidney and liver function, electrolyte levels, glucose level, and total protein level.

Laser Therapy
Report
Low-Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLLT) , also called Photobiomodulation, is a great tool for acute and chronic pain. The concept is biostimulation of injured tissue with laser light. LLLLT accelerated tissue repair and cell growth. Photons of light penetrate deeply into the tissue and increases the energy level (ATP) available for cell synthesis and repair. LLLLT reduces scar formation after cuts, burns or surgery; wounds heal faster; inflammation is reduced. We have even used laser on inflammed, painful and infected ears due to the anti-edema and vasodilation effect. LLLLT has a high beneficial effect of the small pain fibers blocking transmission of pain signals. LLLT increases endogenous secretion of endorphans and enkephalins. Additionaly LLLLT significantly increases the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissue which in turns speeds healing and creates a higher output of specific enzymes leading to greater oxygen and nutrient supply to damaged tissue. Also, by raising the pain threshold in the small pain fibers a cumulative anti-pain affect is achieved. Interestingly to me, LLLLT stimulates accupuncture points. Of interest to some of you - stop by the clinic sometime and we can show you a list of a hundred professional and college athletic programs that laser their beat up players.

Always make sure you have good ID tags on your dog’s collar. You can make them at Pet Supplies Plus, Petsmart or PetCo on 159th and Lagrange Road. You can make a tag with 4 lines per side. On one side put (1) your name, (2) your pet’s name, (3) “Big Reward” and (4) “On Special Meds”. On the back of the tag put 3 to 4 phone numbers. Anyone who finds your puppy will not want to go to a vet and spend money to find out what “special meds” your dog is on and will most likely opt for the “Big Reward”. Just a trick, but it might help you get your dog back.
Microchip your pet. This is the biggest no-brainer in veterinary medicine. The technology is terrific. We have a hundred stories we could tell. Do not listen to people who say “it hurts, wait until your dog is neutered”. This is the worst advice I have ever heard. The microchip is inside a needle, which is, admittedly, bigger than a vaccine needle, but the insertion is quick and relatively painless. Why wait months for “neutering time” when your dog could get lost this afternoon after you get home?

Im not one to write reviews but this needs to be said. Dr. Angela Riffice is amazing! Normally when I bring my cat into the vet she is shaking uncontrollably. In her 2nd acupuncture appointment with Dr. Riffice she was resting comfortably and fell a sleep in my arms. I have NEVER seen her this calm while in a vet office. Dr. Riffice took the time to hear all about my cats issues and provided not only western medicine but eastern as well.
For those that are skeptical let me tell you the difference has been amazing. My cat has been diagnosed with hypertension and has only about 10% of vision. Since starting her treatments her heart rate has went down and i have noticed a significant response to to light in her pupils. I really cannot say enough good things about Dr. Riffice she is an amazing vet and wonderful person.
Your pet is in good hands with this incredible doctor. My overall experience has been wonderful. The entire staff- front desk and vet techs are so friendly, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They have made a stressful time more manageable.

Was my vet service for over 13 years. Staff always sounded caring and I truly believe cared about their work Primary attending clearly retiring and has multi vets standing in Fragmented care is the obvious outcome As my dogs aged they needed more care including immediate care " too busy please go to our recommended provider" Why on earth would I want my loved animals to see a vet/staff where there is NO ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP!?
I'm so sorry that at the end of my dogs life I am now switching to a comprehensive provider So disappointed and so sad at what appears to be just another business - like a shoe store

Dr. Fleming was my terrier's vet for 7+ years until he retired and his clinic changed hands. My dog needed special care and was frequently at the clinic, and the quality of care from the entire staff was outstanding. After Dr. Fleming left the practice, my dog was examined/treated by one vet in particular who was caring and very capable as well. The transition in ownership of the clinic was fairly seamless with improvement in office technology along with a somewhat less friendly reception, but I had no complaints about the clinic until my dog died 3 weeks ago.
She fell ill over the weekend, Prairie State Veterinary Clinic (PSVC) was closed, and there was no emergency clinic within 50 miles of my home that had an opening to see her although each place contacted said that she needed hospitalization based on her symptoms. Her condition worsened over the next 36 hours, and we finally decided to end her horrible suffering and contacted an exceptional mobile services vet from Orland Park who came to our home and administered euthanasia.
I wrote a note to PSVC that day notifying them of her passing as well as describing my heartbreaking and futile attempts to find her care when she was suffering. I was hoping that my note would prompt the staff to develop a back-up plan for emergency care for pets who have been in their care for so many years. I received a note in reply from her veterinarian who briefly expressed her sympathy, and then went on to explain in quite some detail the impact of the pandemic on the veterinary field and it's services.
I completely understand that there is a shortage of veterinary staff due to the pandemic, and those who are available to work must be exhausted from the hours worked, but my point was missed. A doctor's care for a patient should not be confined to clinic hours. Could they not at least think about options, like an answering service, tiered services for clients who are willing to pay for specific care, etc. PSVC had previously subscribed to TeleVet for situations like this, but discontinued it.
There was no response to at least thinking about new ways to help critically ill pets during off hours especially since it's known that emergency care is limited. Hardship during this pandemic goes both ways and is not exclusive to veterinary care. Where can a desperate patient/client go in an emergency and at least connect with a vet who knows their pet's history?
If my dog could not be saved, could she at least have received pain medication? It was clear that my appeal to the Clinic to find new ways to operate during these hard times was not going to make a difference in the next pet's life or death situation, and that was going to be the end of it. Then two days later I received a sympathy card from the Clinic, and we were so insulted by the writing in the card that I felt compelled to write this review.
After 9 years of care at this clinic, they couldn't even say my pet's name. It was a generic "Sorry for your loss". That to me says what this clinic has become. Couldn't one of the veterinarians or tech's actually sign the card, especially the ones who cared for her most, and at least say that she was a great dog who they enjoyed at the Clinic? How cold to not even acknowledge that she had a name.
Her name was Sparkle. How difficult would it have been to say, "Sorry for Sparkle's loss". The few words appeared to be hastily written as though it were a meaningless task. As veterinary staff's ask clients to be compassionate towards them during these difficult times, could they not understand that we need compassion too. Sparkle was not a pet. She was a best friend. For this I'm generous in giving PSVC 3 stars based on all the good years of service that we previously received while under private ownership.

Dr Rosin (I believe that's how you spell her name) she is the ONLY reason why I bring my Yorkie to this clinic. She is the most amazing vet I've ever met. She calls the pets her patients which I think is extremely sincere. She is so incredibly detailed in her explanations. She never ever comes to quick assumptions and never resorts to medicine first off.
She is always thinking of and suggesting more natural ways to heal the pet and does a ton of research to make sure that the natural treatment is appropriate for the condition the pet has. She's seriously amazing and I am so glad we found her.

We called for an appointment Friday morning with their internist Dr . Norton. He has over the years been my go to person for 10 years whenever I need an explanation,a reassurance, or a diagnosis for my dogs . He is one of the smartest doctors I know . I would trust him with my care which mentally he has soothed my nerves many times lol. Once again he took me immediately , sat me down and just took the time to explain and answer any of my questions He is the best internist I know . I value him as a physician immensely and would recommend him to anyone with a sick pet

I usually do not write reviews but this time I felt I had to. I was referred here for a second opinion from a friend. I had called and cancelled twice because of weather and just having surgery. They were so nice and understanding that I knew at that point this is going to be a great experience and IT was so much more than great. Dr Tassone took the time to thoroughly exam my pet and explain all of my options then Dr Fleming came in and talked to us more about his condition.
These doctors that we met that day were both compassionate, patient, warm and so understanding. I can not write or say enough. I will continue to take my pets here and let everyone I know of my '10+' experience! If your reading this and thinking about going there, don't even think twice or look any further. I can promise you that you won't be disappointed!

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. We first came here about 9 years ago for a surgery for our cat that prolonged his life by several years and received financial assistance from a fund set up for single parents that we heard from through our church. Without their help we wouldn't have been able to afford to help our cat. We brought our other very fat calico as well for the past five years and we're taken care of by Dr. Fleming and Dr. Tassone during various appointments.
Both doctors were kind and so helpful and conscious of budgetary issues and other concerns we had with our pets. The front desk staff was always helpful and allowed us to borrow a carrier overnight to bring our cat in. We recently had to put our calico to sleep earlier this week and received a sympathy card in the mail from Dr. Tassone yesterday. We had this cat for 17 so saying goodbye was difficult and their thoughtfulness was much appreciated. Our pets are all in heaven now but if I ever have another pet I will definitely bring them here to be taken care of.

Ruby our Boston Terrier needed to come here because of her psychotic running and jumping from extremely high places... also a floating patella. They were able to offer her six sessions of light therapy for her knee. The moment that they started to do the light therapy, she was instantly calm her. And she was also ready to leap around the room as soon as we were ready to leave.
They offered adorable dog goggles, as well as options for using care credit if we decided to go for more therapy sessions in the future. But she didn't need them.
after her first session, she was already seemingly better. After her fourth session, she was totally normal again. But since we did already pre-paid for six, and the doctor had suggested that she at least get six, we continued with it and today she is doing spectacular! We definitely highly recommend this veterinary clinic and hospital.

Let me start off my saying that this Vet Clinic gets 1 star simply because the girls at the front desk were very nice. My boyfriend and I took our new puppy to his first check up last weekend. We saw Dr. Norton. This is my first puppy and I wasn't really sure what to expect. I put my puppy on the exam table and there was a sign that read to let them handle the dogs when they are being examined.
I still stood by bc at the end of the day I don't want my puppy to get hurt. Dr Norton greeting came in and introduced himself. He didn't really acknowledge my puppy like I would think that most dog lovers do, but that's ok. I get it, he sees dogs all day. He started off by asking us what we were there for along with some other basic questions. He asked us what we were feeding him, we told him the brand name of the food and he responded in a very condescending manner "No, I asked you what are you giving him to eat.
That is a brand!" Right away with that, he rubbed us the wrong way. He proceeded to examine our puppy. I took a step back from the exam table to give him his space. The Dr was growing a fit frustrated because my pup was moving around a lot. He would squirm when he was touching him. Nothing out of control (keep in mind my puppy is a tiny - toy poodle/maltese) The Dr says, "Ok, if you are not working with me, you leave me no other choice!" He placed his had around his neck and shoved his face down into the exam table and checked whatever he needed to check.
My dog crying so hard and loud. It felt forever, but realistically speaking it was from 5-10 seconds. I was outraged. I didn't even know how to react. This being my first vet visit ever, I wondered if this is what I should expect every time? As soon as he released my puppy, I grabbed him, carried and consoled him. He was shaking and whimpering. Clearly he was traumatized by this so called Doctor.
The Dr went on jabbering about nonsense. He had us in the exam room for another 20 min talking about what vaccines are recommended vs what is lawfully necessary. He was throwing names at us that I had never heard of. Speaking as if we were students of his or we were vets ourselves. Honestly, after the way he treated my dog and that condescending voice of his, I just wanted to go!
I am not sure how he continues to work there and/or how this place is getting patients with this guy there. We agreed on what vaccines to get after what felt like taking a test. One of the girls came in to help him. When she walked in with the vaccine in hand, he gave her an attitude and said, "What are you doing? He's going to see the vaccines. I'm trying to get him to cooperate not scare him." I think he should have thought about that before he traumatized my dog.
I'm not sure why he needed to speak like that to her or how a dog would know when it is his first visit. He is the doctor though! At the end of the visit, we paid our bill, asked for a copy of the records and left. We are NEVER returning there again! If you have a new puppy, I recommend that you take him elsewhere. There are so many other vets in the area. Please choose another one. This traumatic visit will definitely haunt myself and my puppy forever.

I literally just got back with my Dino and I had to write this review. I can not express how great this place is. Dr. Norton is a newer doctor there and he did an ultrasound today for my baby and is not only is he incredibly knowledgeable but he also is very thorough. I feel confident in his analysis of my dog and feel very relieved with the results.
Every time I go to this place, I feel welcomed and the love and compassion for your animal is like no other place I have ever taken my babies to. I also feel that they are the fairest price wise. The genuinely care for your animals well being and want them to have the best care. I can not express enough my trust and love for this place and everyone that works here. Thank you from the bottom of mine and Dino's little heart, for being the clinic everyone loves.

The Front desk ladies are so welcoming and helpful. All the veterinarians are phenomenal as well!! My old pupper who is blind and diabetic receives amazing service. He is a difficult dog sometimes but they are prepared to deal with it. Thank you so much to all the beautiful and helpful employees in this wonderful vet clinic!! They are compassionate, understanding, helpful, and a trustworthy team for your furry friend!!
Much love to this clinic! And the energy of the clinic is very relaxed and with you.. in many other vet clinics, the waiting area is so detached and foreign... You will receive the best service! Also my old man just had dental cleaning (as a 12 yr old) and it turned out to be a fantastic turnout (except for Polo pooping everywhere... sorry about that again lol) but again, thank you guys so much! I am so grateful for this clinic and all of its loving people!! Dental pictures are attached (before and after cleaning)

The experience at Prairie State Veterinary Clinic was phenomenal! From the welcome at the front desk to the meeting with Dr. Fleming, their was friendliness, care, concern and kindness. The dental evaluation on my cat Athena resulted in an impromptu office cleaning and advice that an anesthetic cleaning was not necessary. Did I mention honesty and the desire to do the right thing for the client, not ordering unnecessary procedures and tests to just make money? I would recommend that you try this animal clinic one time and you will not want to go anywhere else.

I've been taking my dogs to Dr. Fleming for almost 20 years. He is a compassionate, no-nonesense kind of guy who doesn't try to push expensive tests or procedures on you. He lets you know what's available, then lets you pick the best option for your pet AND your budget. He's got a great network of specialists that he refers to if necessary. I've used a couple of them and they are excellent as well.
Dr. Tassone joined the practice a couple of years ago.
After seeing Dr. Fleming for so long, I'll admit that I was hesitant to let the young, new doc have a go at my pup. Turns out, Dr. Tassone is awesome! She's gentle, patient, knowledgeable and really knows how to explain things and put your fears at ease. I have absolutely no problem taking my pup to her if Dr. Fleming isn't available. Everyone knows that the best docs are nothing without a great support staff.
The ladies who work in this office are top-notch. There's always a pleasant voice on the phone when you call (thanks Paula, Katie & Kathy!), and the vet techs are intelligent, capable members of the care team (thanks Liz, Tracey & Dawn) who work WITH the docs and not just FOR them. The clinic is modern and spotless, and Dr. Fleming & Dr. Tassone work to bring high-quality veterinary care to all of their patients at a reasonable cost. You and your pet won't be disappointed here.
