We would rather prevent illness than wait until the pet's health is compromised and treatment needed. We recommend a visit for adult dogs twice a year and adult cats once a year for vaccinations and physical examinations. Unfortunately, with our warm humid weather and short mild winters, it makes our environment a paradise for bacteria, viruses, fungal organisms, and parasites.
South Shreveport Animal Hospital is located at 1122 E. Bert Kouns between Youree Drive and 3132. Our driveway entrance is on Brookhollow, and we are between Gateway Tire and Glass Services near the Auto Mall Carwash.

Even when they were very busy Dr. Campbell made sure my baby girl was taken care of. From the first phone call until she was better the whole staff took great care of both of us. Thanks y'all!

Me and my family rescued a stray starving dog. She needed almost everything in the book. I was having trouble getting help in finding a vet who was willing to take on her many challenges. Well, South Shreveport Animal Hospital & Dr. Calahan were willing. They helped me restore order to the dog's chaos. Later on, I discovered she was actually a "diamond in the rough." Turns out she is a McNab Shepherd, a breed not fully recognized by Kennel Clubs. Wow! What a blessing to now be able to read and understand her breed. #atruejewel - Thanks Dr. Calahan & SSAH Staff!

They take amazingly good care of your little furbabies Edit: extremely uncaring front staff. They do NOT care. They do NOT know what they are doing. And, when told of my emergency situation with my cat (life or death), they told me the next available appointment was on Monday. (that's 3 more days). They had no empathy nor sympathy. Also, unhelpful. I WILL ALWAYS PRAISE THE VETERINARIANS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

My dog, Dakota just had emergency surgery at a local animal emergency hospital. For her follow-up appointment, we came here. Everyone is very nice and they are really treating Dakota with a lot of care. This is going to be her normal vet from now on. The prices are great as well. I used to take her to another local places but they were a bit rough and far too expensive. Thank you all for being so good to my girl.

Our beautiful Abbie inherited a genetic mutation. She and two other dogs in her litter inherited this gene. It was Metastatic cancer. The two siblings passed at 4-1/2 years of age. We almost lost Abbie about the same time. She had surgery to remove cancer and things were touch and go. Dr Panos was the first doctor to help us navigate thru that time.

Several more years went by and the cancer came back with a vengeance. It had spread all over. Abbie was literally on her deathbed when we took her in. Dr Treadwell informed us of options and all it took was for me to say I want to save her for as long as we can. Dr Treadwell went above and beyond many days to keep this girl alive for close to one more full year.

Our baby girl was playing til the day she died. Whenever I called South Shreveport Animal Hospital did everything they could to keep her going. I will never forget that. I truly love Dr Calahan, Dr Panos and Dr Treadwell and the staff for the compassion they showed us and Abbie.

Where do I start? My dear Abbie was one of three dogs out of a litter that were stricken with metastatic cancer. Two of the dogs passed at age 4-1/2. Abbie had surgery to remove a mass at age 4-1/2 and then Dr Panos handled her care for the months following. Then Dr Treadwell in the past year. Because of South Shreveport Animal Hospital, Abbie made it to her 9th Birthday!

She was fully active until the day before cancer finally won. I will never forget the compassion, the determination, and effort that was put forth to keep her alive month after month. My family and I love you Dr Callahan, Dr Panos, Dr Treadwell, and the staff at SSAH.

Dr. Calahan is wonderful! He's knowledgeable and very honest- couldn't have asked for more! He thoroughly explains everything and wants the best for your pet. My sweet girl is now getting the care she deserves. If I could give a 10 star review, I would. Thank you to Dr. Calahan and everyone at South Shreveport Animal Hospital for providing excellent care.

6-19-15 I would have given it a better rating, but I'm still a bit bitter about the misleading appointment we had set up in advanced. They said our VERY sick dog would be seen between 8 to 9 AM. We were told the doctor wouldn't even be in until 9:30. So, our dog had to sit in a cage ALONE, wondering who those people are and if we abandoned her. We were pretty much sent home. 9 o'clock goes by, so does 10, and 11. Finally, we got a call from the doctor around or past noon.

Our dog had been in that cage for hours with a muzzle when it was bad enough she had trouble breathing. And by the time we came back, she looked worse. I will always be angry about this as she had already suffered for a few days. Don't tell us the appointment will be at a certain time, only to be waiting for hours! Update 5-26-18 We have gone at least two other times since then.

I would highly, highly, highly recommend Dr. Panos. She is beautiful and lovely. Her patience is amazing and she's very informative with any questions you have. They do take Care Credit if that helps. We don't have pet insurance, so that has really helped us out.

Dr. Callahan and all his staff are amazing! They always find room for us when we need a little piece of mind. On several occasions they have fit us in the day of. We have been using SSAH since 2015 and have never experienced any issues. They helped us nurse our rescue back to health, and now they are helping us keep our new puppy healthy.

Dr. Gordon Calahan saved my dog's life! He is the best! Royce had anal gland cancer and had to undergo a difficult, long surgery. Had Dr. Calahan not done such an excellent job, Royce would not be alive today. I am forever grateful to Dr. Calahan and South Shreveport Animal Hospital!

I called this place bc my baby was sicker than he ever is. They wouldn't see him on a payment plan. Ok. I asked if I could speak with a vet or tech. I was told both were in a room. After a brief hold I was told the vet was in surgery. I left my name and # at 11:15am but no call back. My dog is 12lbs, hasn't eaten since Sunday when he began throwing up, really thirsty, shivering and started throwing up blood today. And I couldn't at least get a call. I wouldn't even want free care from them now.

Dr. Panos is probably the best vet I've ever taken my animals to. She's patient, helpful, explains everything, & works tirelessly to ensure my pets are as healthy & comfortable as possible. My cats have had a number of health problems recently & we've been there twice a week for a few weeks now & Dr. Panos has been a champion for my cats. She's provided top-notch care & my family is forever grateful.

We've been coming here for years (Dr. Callahan is truly wonderful too) & are loyal customers. We've always been treated with respect by both the doctors & the staff. The staff is extremely friendly & personable & also work long, hard hours but always have a smile on their face. It truly has been the best vet I've ever taken any animals I've had to. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the employees!

Great clinic! One of the vet Techs remembered my baby's name on our second visit even though I had never met her. They squeezed us in on a super busy day for an injury that I didn't deem bad enough to run to the ER. (My dog got his eye nicked by my cat) They don't just cure the injury they gave advice to prevent it occurring again. They really do care about the animals.

Dr. Callahan is so compassionate and caring. I recently had to have a sick cat put down. Dr Callahan sat with me while I cried and just cared. I then receive a card in the mail. If you don't use Southside, your missing out. Thank you Doc, and staff for all you do.

My chihuahua Sookie hurt herself jumping onto a piece of furniture. The very next day I took her to South Shreveport Animal Hospital because she was clearly in pain. The vet took x-rays of the front and side of her injured leg and found no abnormalities, so they said it must be a soft tissue injury and sent me home with doggy NSAID's. Before I left they insisted on trimming her nails and in the process of doing so they stretched her injured leg out sideways, which probably made things even worse.

A couple weeks later Sookie was still limping so I took her to a different vet for a second opinion. This new vet took an X-ray of Sookie from a different angle (standing on hind legs with front paws being extended upwards). This X-ray showed that Sookie's shoulder had been dislocated! Not only that, but this new vet told me that if they would've caught the shoulder within two days of the injury they could've popped it back into place!

But since it's been two weeks now Sookie needs surgery to repair the shoulder. I feel like this was a big case of negligence on the part of SSAH because if they would've x-rayed Sookie from a different angle they would've seen her shoulder was displaced and been able to fix it right then and there. Now I have to shell out $1000+ to get it fixed.
