At Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center, our professional team has the education and experience to improve the health of your beloved puppy or dog. We will do everything we can to improve the quality of your dog's health.
The lifetime of love and strong bond you will share with your dog begins the day you bring your puppy home. Bringing your new puppy home is an exciting time, but there are certain essentials you will need to know to ensure your new puppy remains healthy. At Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center, we are your best partner to help keep your puppy healthy so that you can enjoy their companionship for many years to come. During your puppy's first visit, our veterinarians will perform a thorough physical examination.
Dogs age faster than people, so regular wellness exams, combined with your observations at home, are important to detect potential health problems early. To assure a longer and highest quality of life for your dog, bring your dog to us for a wellness exam at least every six months. We assess your dog's breed, environment, lifestyle, age and medical history to determine what is best for his or her continued good health. Your dog's wellness exam is an opportunity for us to discuss any concerns you have about your dog's health.

RUN! I brought my 3-year-old dog there for a basic spay. She almost died twice. Due to a faulty spay, she is now a special needs dog at 4 YEARS OLD. After 3 surgeries to save her life, and one year later, she is now incontinent. forever. All from a stump pyometra from leaving hormone tissue in her body. She now sits in a shelter for special needs dogs and we are out 13k in just surgery and med costs. Feel free to contact me for photos to back this up.

I started using this Veterinary facility when I moved to Des Moines a few years ago and they are steadily declining in customer satisfaction. I have decided to discontinue with this veterinarian establishment after trying to get my cat in to have her eye looked at. I was put on eternal hold and hung up after they didn't return. I called back and got every excuse why she (Deanna) didn't pick up.

After explaining why I needed to bring my cat in, all she could tell me was they were too busy and tried to turf me off to a different Veterinarian. I couldn't believe she actually said that. When I said I would wait until they had availability, she put me on hold again and never picked back up. How they have customer facing people like that working there is simply baffling.

Everyone is very sweet to both myself and my pup. I love the feel of the office! Not so much of a doctors office but like home.

I love the care provided and the approach of the practice. They've been great with my dog and cats. My one mild frustration comes with punctuality. I've had to wait 15-20 minutes after appointment start times for my pets to be seen. That's been the norm for me the last couple years. That may seem minor, but ends up making short appointments long. Again, services and vet care is top notch.

Dr. Wilke and her team are exceptional. I appreciate her extensive knowledge, experience and her down-to-earth nature. Each visit is an opportunity to witness teamwork in action and it is impressive considering the dynamic nature of operating a vet clinic. They help bring ease to both the animal(s) and their humans.

I have been here twice, once for a 2nd opinion on a medical procedure my first dog was to need. That was an average visit no issues. The next visit was average as well and we had decided this would be our new dogs regular vet. The issue came when we ran out of or dogs' meds. I didn't think it would be an issue to call for a prescription same day since when it was originally written we left the same day with the pills.

We had to call multiple times each time leaving a message on a machine or with a person and we got no return calls. Eventually I had to call multiple times in a row before they would pick up. When I did talk to someone, they said they had been passing my messages along to the vet. After I explained that I would have to go to the emergency vet to get the prescription filled if they wouldn't, I was told our vet was working at the other location and I could call there.

When I called the other location, I was told our vet had been in a car accident and would not be returning anytime soon, at that point they offered to fill my dogs' prescription. I don't get it. If I hadn't forced the issue how long would we have been waiting for a call back? Response to your response Dr. Wilke: I guess I will take your word that you were going to call us back today. 3 days no response to half a dozen phone calls but 30 minutes and you respond to a google review?! maybe check your priorities.

I got my sphynx kitten spayed here as well as her other checkups/shots. Dr. Fitz and the rest of the staff there are extremely helpful! If you have a sphynx cat, you can assure any special needs will be accommodated. I take my other two cats here as well. Dr. Fitz and her team will get you the care you need!

Literally the best vet service we have ever received. From the front desk, to the techs, to Dr. Wilke. These guys are on top of it! We started going there during COVID and never actually stepped foot inside for about a year. Everyone at Iowa Veterinary Wellness went above and beyond making us feel comfortable and in the know. Dr. Wilke treats every pet as her own. She always starts off by saying "if this was my pet, I would.". That is so important. Look no further than these guys!

Dr. Wilke and her staff are wonderful. Last year my 15 year old Scottie had to be put to sleep due to failing health. Even though this was a pandemic they allowed me to be with her in the building for her last breaths. They were so compassionate and caring. As busy as they are, they are never too busy to chat on the phone with you about any pet concerns. They go the extra mile for your pet. I continue to do business with them, with my surviving dog, as well as my future puppy.

Best vet in town, especially with fearful, reactive, or aggressive animals! They are a fear free clinic that really knows their stuff and are more than willing to help accomodate the needs of fear reactive pets in the veterinary environment. They listen to the owners if you feel like a treatment or medication isn't doing the job, and are willing to work with you & your pet to find the right solution for you! I love that Dr Wilke is very honest and straightforward, while maintaining compassion.

We decided to take our pup to IVWC after receiving referrals from people in our neighborhood. He's the first pet we have owned on our own so we needed a lot of direction and had the "first time parent" worries. Aside from his regular monthly visits, they have been so responsive and helpful with advice any time we call with questions! They are also always able to get him in right away if needed. The staff is always so friendly and our pup seems to really like it there! Definitely recommend taking your pet in to see them!

We just moved to the Des Moines area. We are very happy with the care our three Scottish terriers have received. This is the first vet for our new puppy. We have had everything from his microchip to regular care done. Everyone is very friendly and professional. They are so well organized, we even pay for services right in the exam room. When we are done, they have an exit out to the parking lot so we don't have to pass back through the lobby with our rowdy Scotties. Thanks for everything. The Koonce Clan.

They killed my cat after a dental cleaning and refuse to admit liability. She was only 11 and was perfectly healthy beforehand. Now my baby is gone forever.

I truly love this place and the people who work there. Dr. Wilke and her very thoughtful and kind staff have taken very good care of both my dogs and my cat. They provide holistic care as well as traditional veterinary care. I think the combination is crucial to the health of my critters. I have an aging dog who really benefits from acupuncture; I'm certain it makes her quality of life way better than if she didn't get treatment. The best vet in Iowa!
