Becker Animal Hospital has been taking care of North Shore area pets since 1965. We are a small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental services. Our practice philosophy allows you to take an active role in your pet's medical care. We feel that patients respond better to treatment when they are in a loving and nurturing environment, and we strive to do our best to let you and your pet know that we care. When you visit us, we want to do what needs to be done with as little stress as possible.
Services
The promotion of good health and the prevention of animal suffering is always our absolute priority. We will create an environment where the pets and clients enjoy seeing us, and we enjoy and appreciate seeing them. Our veterinary hospital provides complete veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, pocket pets, and reptiles.
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we believe in the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best. Below is a list of some of the many veterinary services we offer.
We are happy to offer anesthesia-free dental care to dogs and cats through Pet Dental Services. Our combined vision is to provide our clients with superior oral care for their pets and to educate pet owners on the importance of dental care in the overall health of their pets. Pet Dental Services(PDS) offers a 11-step Professional Out Patient Dental procedure (POPD), performed without the use of anesthesia, which offers pet owners an alternative method for cleaning and maintaining their pet's teeth.
The Cold Laser Therapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses light to stimulate cells and increase blood circulation. At the correct laser wavelength, pain signals are reduced and nerve sensitivity decreases. The procedure also releases endorphins, or natural painkillers. The procedure is based on the idea that light is absorbed into the cells.

I love this facility. The entire staff is friendly, great, understanding helpful people. Dr Katerina Ilyukhina is one of the most helpful and compassionate vets. She is very gentle with my dog ( Shih Tzu 14 years old).Dr Katerina takes the time to understand why you are bringing in your pet. She is the best vet my dog could ask for. Many thanks!

Becker Animal Hospital came to our rescue with our two dogs Apollo and Luna. We were moving to Costa Rica and needed the APHIS health certification and all vaccines required to enter Costa Rica. The Becker Team was amazing when we experienced a flight delay and needed all documents updated and sent once again since records need to be within 10 days of flight.
We cannot say enough great things about Becker and the extraordinary heart felt attention that we received. They were quick to reply to our needs even when we about to leave the country and no longer be patients. I would recommend them for all your pet needs!

We've been taking all of our miniature schnauzers to Becker Animal Hospital for probably 50+ years, when Dr. Becker used to take care of our dogs, and have always been happy with their professionalism, care and concern. We now see Dr. Dombeck and just love her! I highly recommend Becker Animal Hospital for your pet.

There is no better place to take your pet than here. They not only treat your pet like their own but they treat you with respect as well. When putting down my 12 year old dog, Dr Kathy did everything in her power to support my dog and my family through this awful period. She and her staff are so genuine and caring. We got a puppy a few months ago and everyone so so happy for us and welcomed our puppy with open arms. Thank you for all that you do!

This is a place that truly cares about your pet. The entire team of staff are friendly, kind, and welcoming. The vets are absolutely amazing - outstanding listeners, calming, knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely all about your pet; they will never suggest a procedure just to make an extra buck. It's just such a comfortable place that even my anxious cat is comfortable when there.
And the vets, not technicians, gave my cat his meds and taught me how to med my cat. Over the 3yrs I've had my 12yo cat, I went to several other places, and after each one, my cat became increasingly more ill. I thought he was dying when I brought him to Becker. Dr. Liebman was wonderful, and Dr. Kathy brought my cat back to me better than I've ever known him to be. I am so so grateful to the vets at Becker.

One evening in March 2020, one of our three cats suddenly isolated himself under the bed and stopped eating and drinking. We called one animal emergency room, who couldn't see him for a number of hours, so we contacted Becker, who did a short triage via phone and told us to bring him in. This was close to start of COVID and the parking lot was full of families awaiting their pets' treatments.
The tech came out to meet us immediately and after confirming some health details, she took our cat in right away. She kept us up to date throughout the evening and early morning. Later we learned that our cat had experienced an acute kidney injury. They advised fluids, but cautioned us for potential poor recovery prospects and bad news. His lab numbers were some of the poorest numbers the Team had seen.
After a weekend of fluids, we took him home with instructions on how to provide fluids at home. It was very difficult because only I could go inside the hospital to learn how to give fluids while my wife waited in the car. The technician who taught us stayed past the end of his shift to give me hands on training, which I really appreciated. Dr. Arrington kept us up to date while our cat was in hospital and was available for follow up.
He even took photos and texted them to us, which meant so much to us. What struck me profoundly were the kindness, empathy, and training shown by Dr. Arrington and Team. They helped us navigate our cat's follow up care. At first giving fluids was a bit nerve-wracking, but we slowly became more comfortable. After follow-up labs a week later, we were overjoyed to learn that our cat was making a remarkable recovery. Dr. Arrington indicated how amazing this was, but stressed that we had to keep a close eye on our cat due to the seriousness of his condition. Today, our little guy continues his recovery.
From the first moment I contacted Becker, through every contact and discussion, Dr. Arrington and his Team provided empathy, support, and honesty about our cat's treatment and prognosis. This was especially meaningful as we were both heartbroken initially and overjoyed later at the good news. We highly recommend the Team at Becker. Thank you to all.

Dr. Liebman is stellar and incredibly intelligent. We left our vet in the city during dog flu season several years ago due to avoiding contact with it, and made the trip to Northfield to take our dog, who is now a senior. My parents take their pets here as well, and like us, view our pets as children. We have also seen Dr. Heise who is incredibly kind - we feel confident going to both vets, and appreciate their patience answering our questions, and most recently, grappling through the senior years with our dog and how to handle kidney disease.
The bedside manner of both vets is professional, yet gentle, kind, and caring, never rushing you when asking a million questions about your pet. Thank you Becker Animal Hospital! We will always make the commute from the city because of your incredible staff and vets. Love, Xenu and his parents

I have been going to Becker Animal Hospital for many years. The reception people, technicians and Doctors are just the best. Had a very recent kitty emergency. Silly cat swallowed a needle and thread. I was beside myself and probably more frightened than my kitty. Everyone was so understanding and one of the women there even drove me (I had taken a cab to the office) to a nearby emergency place after it was decided that endoscopic surgery was necessary. Everyone was awesome and definitely helped me calm down. Big Kudos to all! (Kitty and needle were successfully separated :) )
