Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. A Tucson veterinary hospital, Central Animal Hospital provides experienced veterinary medical and surgical care for dogs and cats in Tucson. In addition, our experience allows us to offer complete veterinary services for the more unique pet - birds, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, and other exotics.
Moving has given us the opportunity to design a facility that can provide a clean, healthful and modern environment for our patients, clients and staff.

Here are a few short lists of several animal-related books that we can recommend for your library and reading. We have roughly divided the larger list into manageable sub-topics. We hope that you find this list helpful, and for your convenience we have provided links for specific books to on-line retailers. Certainly books may also be found by searching local booksellers.

Look nowhere else for your animals health. Having been to most of the midtown vets, Central is the best for your animal and your wallet. I've had multiple cats and dogs over the last 20 years in Tucson and worked with a few different vets in town. I have never worked with a more compassionate and animal-focused team than Dr Samuels and Dr Miller. They are incredibly knowledgeable, and not driven by the billable procedures.
They have a true bedside manner that isn't for the benefit of the owner. I'm grateful for their guidance, but most importantly grateful for the humanity they show as doctors for my animals. Thank you to you both and your team. Quick update: their onboarding of a new pet is amazing. truly great vet

We have been going to Central Animal Hospital since 1998. We have taken all of our pets to Dr. Samuel's or Dr. Miller. They both are caring doctors and have helped us through many different situations. Their staff are also very friendly and accommodating. Pictured are just a few of our dogs over the years. I love the team there. Kurt always gives the animals so much attention and love. Josh and Jordan are super friendly and talk to the animals so sweetly. Our latest puppy decided to check out herself. They are always so interactive with the animals and get in the floor down on their level.

Dr. Samuels, Dr. Miller and Central Animal Hospital staff have been my vet care team since about 1999. I've had 7 dogs and 3 cats in that time, all of them taken care of with great compassion and warmth. They are wise, experienced and honest. Dr. Samuels ran an intervention on me when I fell into a specialist's money pit of pain management meds for my dog with glaucoma. My one and only recommendation if asked is Drs. Samuels and Miller and staff at Central Animal Hospital!

Central Animal Hospital is a remarkable place. We have been going there with our dogs for almost two decades. We recently had to euthanize our very old dog which was a very difficult but necessary step at this point. Dr. Samuels and the entire staff treated us and our pet with dignity and compassion. They clearly love their work with each animal in their care.
Over the course of our pets' lives, they have been there to help us give our animals first-rate medical attention. The costs have always seemed to be moderate and fair. Their treatment has always seemed to be based on their love for animals and their treatment of clients, both pets and people, has been exemplary. We want to thank them for their help and support.

They have been exceptionally caring and helpful with our dogs. We adopted a pup who ended up having several issues one after the other, and every time we had to call they were considerate and helpful and scheduled us as promptly as they could. They clearly have a lot of care and love for the animals in their care and are very knowledgeable (most of my interactions have been with Joshua and Dr. Samuels). The services have been reasonably priced, and they don't try to upsell unnecessary tests, treatments, or services. I won't be going anywhere else for the foreseeable future.

The staff at Central Animal Hospital is exceptional. Dr. Samuels and Dr. Miller are both knowledgeable and compassionate. All of the assistants are friendly and helpful and have worked there for years, which says a lot about a business. I have been a client at Central Animal for 25 years. They have taken care of my dogs, parrots, and tortoise.

My kitties have been taken care of by Vet Dr Judy Miller. Dr Miller and Dr Samuels are professional, great physicians, kind and caring, and reasonably priced. All visits and procedures were taken care of for all my kitties. A wonderful Vet experience for both the kitties and their family. (My kitty Clyde would not come out voluntarily from under the chair in the exam room.
So Dr Miller crawled on the floor and gave him his exam there, on every visit. She petted and loved him up as if he were one of her own pets during the exam. He was very fond of her.) I highly recommend Central Animal Hospital.

I have used Dr Samuels for many years. He and his WONDERFUL STAFF have very compassionately taken care of many of my dogs. I moved to Oro Valley and it is quite a distance for me to get to him now. However I would never consider using anyone else! He and his staff are all honest, caring and compassionate! S. Drew-Rabb

I would highly recommend this clinic. I became aware of them because I volunteer with a rescue group that uses this clinic. We took our husky here today and Dr Miller was fantastic the staff was knowledgeable and polite. My dog suffers from a chronic medical condition and the clinic took it seriously and didn't push unnecessary testing just what was needed. Actually, the doctor recommended waiting on one of the tests.
When I see something like this I am pleased, I have been to vets that really push unnecessary testing to ramp up the bill. The cost here is a little isn't the cheapest in town. However, we are happy to pay the premium for great service.

Great people. Great service. Great prices. We had taken our dog Titan there which we had rescued who had many issues like heart worm, cancer on his toe, and also masses in his abdomen, not to mention 3rd eyelid growths. They made him as comfortable as possible for as long as they could. They are amazing, honest and not trying to gouge your wallet every chance they get. Thank you Dr. Samuel, you take great care of our animals .

Disappointed. I was running 5-7 min late, because my poor kitty made a mess of her carrier. I called and was told I had to reschedule, after I waited over 2 weeks to get in, at which I was told to call around and find someone else( maybe i should not have called to let them know). I understand they might be busy but it wasn't as if I was running that late- didn't want to bring my pet in covered in feces and urine. Very upsetting, given that my cat is unwell and needs to be seen and the wait was already half a month. Clearly they are overbooking. I was not rude, loud, or unfriendly.

We have taken our dogs to Dr. Miller @ Central Animal Hospital for almost 4 years & feel it's the best vet experience after having dogs for 29 years. Not only is the whole staff great, but Dr. Miller is very thorough and wonderful with our pets. If a procedure is not necessary, she will let you know & their fees are quite reasonable. I highly recommend Central Animal Hospital. Gary Rubin

I just moved to the area and am leaving a vet of four years that has been nothing but excellent to us and our fur family. Within moments of arriving at Central Animal Hospital, I knew I'd found something similar with Dr Miller and the staff at CAH. I'm so excited to have found them and hope to share all the peaks and valleys of pet ownership with them along the way. : I'd highly recommend!

I started coming here after I felt my vet overcharged me for a simple teeth cleaning. I have loved the change. My dog had a tumor removed and it was cheaper than the teeth cleaning at the other place. My dog of 15 years had to be put down and the staff I was in contact with were so friendly and sympathetic. I have a new dog and an fully trusting his health with this place.

Dr Judy Miller has been caring for our kittehs since we moved to Tucson, Az. She has been very effective at diagnosing and resolving problems we had been having with our 'Preciouses', and is able to handle all of our cats, which were neglected rescues. She is able to soothe and calm them during the exam, and they really respond to the gentle way she handles them. Dr Judy always thoroughly explains her diagnoses and treatment reccomendations.
Our cats have shown marked great improvement under her expert care. Dr Judy has a very engaging manner and a great sense of humor, which i always appreciate. The staff there are very attentive and caring, and the techs demonstrate a real dedication to their jobs with their interactions and quality of care they provide our beloved fur-babies. I am very happy to have her as a vet, and reccommend her highly. 03/17/20.i still have great faith in Dr Miller and her capabilities, after reading a post from 3 years prior that gave her a poor evaluation. Unfortunately, no one is incapable of error. Yes, even the best of professionals are subject to misdiagnosis.this sadly was the case with a vet i had previously, and had dire consequences.
I am glad the person who posted had better outcomes. However; in reading all the most recent reviews that give her very good reccomendations, i am still extremely confident that Dr Miller is a very competent practitioner. She has been very effective at resolving issues with my geriatric kitty of 16+ years, my Beloved TomTom, and her correct diagnoses of myriad underlying conditions with his heart and gastric distress and pancreatitis are now being successfully controlled and he has been given greater longevity without all his previous suffering that we were sure would result in making a hard decision about the quality of his life.
Sorry about my poor syntax, i am trying to express my gratitude that he is now happily eating the diet he was recommended with greedy schlurps and gobbles, and contentedly lying in sun patches snoozing and dreaming happy little kitty dreams.that he is able to enjoy his last years in comfort with people who genuinely Love and Cherish his beautiful Soul.after what hed had previously endured at the terrible hands of despicable, hateful 'people' who caused him such suffering.

I had a first rate experience at Central Animal Hospital. I haven't lived in Tucson too long and my dog Max has heart trouble and I quickly needed a local vet. Jordan in the office was very helpful and got Max an appointment right away. I saw Dr Samuels who is very professional, personable and patient. I'm glad I found this office. Max is already doing better with the new doses of medications and glad to have a local and trusted Vet. I give a top recommendation!

I just switched vets.they're good at their jobs, but they're cold and crass. I'm younger and they always assume that I'm too stupid to understand what is going on with my cat. They belittle me and have no ability to show compassion. They do however seem to know what they're doing when it comes to veterinary care. My cats older and the last place I want her to be when she passes away is in their care.

I am so happy I found this veterinarian. Dr Samuel's is the best. He doesnt do a lot of unnecessary treatments. He is all about giving good quality care at the lowest cost possible. The place I was taking my dog to was very expensive, they wanted to do anything that would run up the bill and they wouldn't get my dog in for an ear infection for over a week. That's when i realized they were about the almighty dollar. Thanks Dr. Samuel's for being a caring veterinarian.

Well, this is disturbing. I just received a mildly intimidating letter in the mail regarding my Yelp Review for Central Animal Hospital from Dr. Samuels. He wrote: "The copy of ___'s records was waiting to be picked up at the front desk." Me: Joshua told me he would call me when they were ready. Why didn't he? Dr. Samuels: "There was no Valley Fever Test run in May 2017.
There was no appointment at Central AH in May 2017." Me: That's because I did NOT receive a call back about my dog with Valley Fever (I did NOT schedule an appointment when I didn't get a call back), and because I had just adopted a new dog with a terrible ear infection that turned out to be a MRSA infection, and I decided to go to Adobe Veterinary Clinic to save my dogs' lives.
I never did receive a call after leaving an urgent message on their voicemail. Why? Clearly, they dropped the ball. And, no one ever tried to clear this up. Dr. Samuels: ".but the name you used on Yelp (Linda E.) made it impossible to figure out who you were at the time." Me: I think it's creepy to be tracked down. A polite phone call would have been a bit better, especially since I was still waiting for Joshua's call. Using the phone to retrieve messages and the ability to call clients back seems to be a big problem.
Far better to respond publicly on Yelp--less weird. Dr. Samuels: "I would appreciate it if you would remove the Yelp post concerning the Valley Fever Test so I do not have to respond to the erroneous complaint." Me: I don't appreciate the mild intimidation. I didn't request a Valley Fever Test. I'm guessing Dr. Samuels has never read anything about customer service, or how to How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie). I have no idea if this place is good for animals. I'm sure they love them-- just not their customers is my guess.

The vet techs were great when I took my dog to get x-rays but the customer service was not. Every time I called, the receptionists were extremely rude & constantly transferred me back and forth until I was able to speak to someone. They only take hard copy x-rays therefore could not send digital copies to another vet so you must go back and "check-out" the x-rays from them.
They only allow you to have the x-rays for 2 weeks and if you need them for a longer time period, you have to take them back and check them back out. It was frustrating needing to rush after work just to re-check out x-rays I paid for (especially as person who works from 8-5). I called in advanced each time I was going so they were able to prepare the paperwork beforehand but every time I called, I was treated like an inconvenience which is upsetting when you're looking for help & trying to follow their procedures. They were not been pleasant to work with and would not recommend this place for x-rays.

This place is awesome. Not that there are probably many bad veterinary clinics, but the people here are so above and beyond. Curt, one of the techs, is the best I have ever encountered with cats. I just couldn't believe it. My cat is not terribly difficult but he doesn't like meeting new people. When Curt picked Marcel up he just melted in Curt's arms.
I was amazed. Dr. Samuels is probably my favorite veterinarian I have encountered. No pressure for expensive treatments that might not help much. I have been to many vets all over the country. This place won my heart as the best, and I mean every staff member I dealt with. They remember your name and your little buddy's from a single visit. Superb!

When we moved to Tucson from Las Vegas we never thought we would find a Veterinarian we can trust with our babies again. But then our beloved Ruby Soho came down with a malignant carcinoma on her leg that needed surgery right away. & right before Christmas! After taking her to my moms Vet of 10 yrs we thought that the 3 of us were in for a hard Christmas.
Instead through Yelp we found a Christmas miracle and not only did Dr. Samuels do the surgery a couple days before Christmas he also did it for 70% off the price any other Veterinarian had told us. Finding Central Animal Hospital & Dr. Samuels that Holiday was nothing short of a miracle to us! If I had the money for the most expensive Veterinarian in town I would still go to him because although he is running a business he's definitely doing it for the animals & the families first.

Dr. Samuels, Dr. Miller and the Central Animal Hospital staff have been part of my pets lives for over 20 years. My work has taken me away from Tucson on several ocassions, and each time that we have returned, we have reestablished care at Central Animal Hospital with no hesitation. They are professional, caring people, and very attentive to my pets. Dr. Samuels and Dr. Miller keep informed of current practices and treatments, and we always leave assured that they did the best for the wellbeing of our pets.

When I comes to dealing with your pets, it is basically all or nothing. One event can change everything and because it is to do with an animal's health, the vet might not be able to do anything about it. Thus far, I have only had good experiences here with my puppy. Whenever I take her in she is massively excited to be there, gets so much love and attention from all of the techs (they always come around the counter to say hi to her because I will not allow her to jump on the counter), and the doctors have been very helpful with every problem she has had.
This does include finding the most cost effective way to treat my precious angel since I am a young adult who does not make the most money and still has decided to raise a very big puppy. The only negative I have, and yes I do only mean one negative, is the hours. They are not open weekends which makes getting in a little difficult at times. Other than that, I am very blessed to have found this facility and cannot think of a better one, nor one I trust more.

My godmother referred me here when I complained to her about not finding any vets around Vail/Rita Ranch that I A) Liked. and B) Could afford. I was SUPER impressed with CAH and Dr. Samuels! Their prices are very competitive, and the service is A+. Although it is a 45 minute drive for me, each way, I will definitely be going back here for my dog's regular needs in the future.
My senior citizen dog needed a benign tumor removed, and their quote was about 1/3 what I was expecting (and the price included take home meds after surgery plus the follow up appointment). The vet techs and Dr. Samuels were both great with her, even though she is a bit skittish with strangers. She calmed down pretty quickly, which I was amazed at. Pleasant bedside manner is not a necessity at a vet really if they are competent, I know. But it was much appreciated. We just had her stitches removed, 2 weeks post op, yesterday. Easy peas-y. In and out in less than 15 minutes!
