Our hospital team members truly love caring for pets. That's why the average tenure for our receptionists and technicians is over 15 years, with some in the 25-30 year range. Their dedication to you and your pets provides a level of experience that is hard to find these days. A former veterinary practice manager, Pam offers CAH clients and patients over 28 years of experience in quality pet care. She was a receptionist for many years and you can still find her at the front desk along with her many other tasks.
Since opening our doors in 1982, the veterinary professionals at Companion Animal Hospital have worked together with owners to defend the health of their cats and dogs. Today, our state-of-the-art facility continues this tradition of love and care for Groton's pets. Companion Animal Hospital knows that prevention is the key to unlock longer, healthier lives in our patients. That is why we invite all our clients to develop a schedule of regular vaccinations and wellness exams for their pets with us.
Companion Animal Hospital is proud to reside in Groton, and shares this appreciation by giving back to the community that has given us so much through outreach programs and partnerships. We're proudly partnered with Groton Social Services, with whom we run our annual pet food drive every year to assist low-income pet owners in Groton.

I have been bringing my pets to Companion for over six years. They have walked me through putting my older cat down, and have been nothing but compassionate and understanding with my 2 dogs and 2 cats. Reading the other reviews, I want to make a couple of notes regarding some of the negatives people talked about: 1) I too, put in a Chewy prescription that the office missed.
Not a big deal. I called the office. 2) I have had a couple of emergencies with my dogs and they were able to get me in that morning. When my cat was unresponsive in passing, they fit me in first thing. 3) after a recommendation of a neighbor, my dog also stays at Companion as a boarder and has never shown anything but happiness to go back. (Because of COVID we haven't traveled but we would take our other dog as well when we do travel again.) I have and will continue to recommend Companion animal hospital. I appreciate their commitment to the animals and their empathy in dealing with hard situations.

Highly non- responsive vet with staff that does not follow through. Go elsewhere. My initial visit was OK. It was the following interactions that were not pleasant. Multiple chewy orders were cancelled due to the office not responding to prescription requests. Even after calling and being told they would be approved, the prescription requests were never responded to.
On ONE occasion, I requested as 3 month prescription of Bravecto, and after calling, they approved a 1 month supply. On another occasion, I asked for my medical records to be sent to me. The receptionist said it would be no problem. This request was also not honored. I see other good reviews for this place, but this was not my experience. As a newer patient, I would expect the staff/vets to be more responsive as to show they want to keep new patients. I did not get that feeling at all here. In fact, quite the opposite. I felt like my dog and I were being brushed off.

I recently brought my newly adopted dog to Companion Animal hospital. The staff, from the receptionist to the vet, were friendly, interested, and caring. They did not recommend unneeded services. The vet listened to and addressed each of my questions. My dog remained calm and happy throw out the visit. I will bring her back!

Companion Animal Hospital's staff is very caring and thorough! My cat just had dental cleaning and surgery. That's hard for my cat and for me as well, and also for my other cat, who is distressed that his friend had to be away and then came home smelling like the vet's office. But I can rely on the staff to be there if I need them! Thank you!

Update on my second review, used to be 5 stars. I'm very disappointed in this place. I tried really hard not to leave a review of this sort. The techs are great, same for the front desk ladies. However, upon finding out my cat has diabetes things went downhill from there. We brought up the fact that our kitten showed symptoms of diabetes very early on.
It wasn't until the glucose were at crazy levels, our baby losing 2lbs in one week and a change of veterinarian did it start becoming real to them. Even my coworker, who wasn't a veterinarian tech anymore, told me that my kitten needed to be checked for diabetes. What made myself and my wife really dislike this establishment- weeks after the ultrasound that was very important to the veterinarian was found out to just be scam for money.
When asking questions about what to do with the organ problem (being 2-3x the normal size) we were told to simply focus on the diabetes. What was the ultrasound for if it weren't for tackling the problem? We later find out that there were no interpretations on this ultrasound, not the ones we were told of. If you didn't know, the interpretation from the ultrasound technologist is the most expensive part.

Called a couple weeks ago because one of my dogs was sick, we got in that very same day which used to be par for the course and what made them a good animal hospital. Today, Tried to make an appointment for my other dog who's leg is bothering her and they can't see her for 3 weeks. Really? It was explained what was going on, she might be in pain but 3 weeks? Why? This place is hit or miss, it used to be consistent quality care but now that seems to have slipped.

You can tell the staff at Companion Animal Hospital really love animals and have a lot of compassion for the human companions. This photo is of my Violet exploring the exam room last month while we waited for. Dr. Jensen, and she felt a little more at ease that way. Dr. Jensen and Faun answered all my questions with kindness and good humor while Violet was shaking ear cleaning solution all over them!
When I brought her back for dental work, I got a thorough update from Dr. Jensen after the procedure, and the bill actually came in a little under the estimate, so there's no trickery going on. They also called the day after to check on her, and when I called them today (Saturday) thinking she.

Earlier this year, I had to bring in another cat, TinkerBell, after she had a seizure.
Everyone was compassionate, and I had to leave her there for most of the day for tests, but Dr. Jensen took the time to speak to me on the phone twice about how she was doing and answered all my questions. I rarely get that level of attention from my own doctors, so I appreciate it.

This past Saturday, our 11-year-old dog went to Companion due to difficulty breathing and laying down Friday evening. While at Companion, when my dog had X rays done, there was no radiologist to read them. From 9:40-1:45 they could not find a radiologist. The vet wanted them to be read because what was seen could have been two different diagnoses.
He could not stand. He could not eat. We were told to not take him to Ocean State as they would turn us away. According to our text messages with her, she was still trying to find a radiologist at 1:30 and discuss his case and a possible transfer with Ocean State in Rhode Island. CAH has been the most empathetic local vet. They helped me learn what my new kitten needed, and also were on top of everything when it turned out that he had FIP and passed suddenly. When I got another cat, they showed nothing but gentleness and compassion when I struggled with not being able to come into the appt due to restrictions. They never once brushed off my concerns and fully understood that my fears were associated with a previous loss.
The admin staff also were so patient fielding my calls and insurance questions. I never have any concerns about the treatment of myself or my furry family when I go to CAH, and I'm grateful to the knowledge and expertise of the staff there. If I could thank them a thousand times over, I would (this would probably tie up their phone lines, so I won't but still.) I wish I could remember the exact names of who all worked with Noodle and Gnocchi, but their work is still so meaningful to me nonetheless. Ft. a photo of Gnocchi, totally A-okay even after all my fretting.

I have a dog who is absolutely terrified by even pulling up to any vet parking lot. Megan and Dr. Bender we're extremely compassionate and intelligent in getting my dog, Luke, into the exam room and while handling him. They took extra time to make sure he felt comfortable and wasn't being forced into anything. I'm so happy I went to Companion Animal Hospital and will always go there from now on.

I highly recommend Companion Animal Hospital. I am newer to the area and my dog, Kacey's health was quickly declining. I called and was put on a waiting list and was seen within 48 hours. The care Kacey has. received since then has been the best vet care she has ever gotten. Dr DeWolf and staff have gone above and beyond to teach me how to care for a dog with diabetes, they check in with me, they answer my questions; I am very thankful for them everyday.

I wanted to say a giant THANK YOU to the amazing doctors at Companion, especially Dr. Bender and Dr. DeWolf.
Dr. Bender is the reason my crazy partner in crime is even here with me. Dr. Bender took the initiative to save the life of my dog after she was hit by a car and seriously injured. Because of her, my dog was able to have her amputation and a second chance at life, and I was able to meet and fall in love with my three-legged best friend. Dr. Bender also quickly made time to see Bella when I noticed a new mass.
She quickly fit her into the surgery schedule to remove a malignant cancerous mass before it metastasized, again saving my dog’s life. (Pictured is Bella patiently waiting for Dr. Bender’s return, and then celebrating one year cancer free!).
Dr. Bender and Dr. DeWolf provide top of the line medical care to my pets, and hundreds and hundreds of others.
I know the huge sacrifices they routinely make to help others and that they are two of the best, brightest, and kindest doctors you could find. You couldn’t ask for better veterinary care. Thank you both for your knowledge, kindness, compassion and patience over the years.

If I were asked a few months ago if I were happy with my service here, I would have answered with a solid yes. After moving to CT, I was very loyal to this clinic for my dogs care for over 9 years. I thought we. built a great relationship and I really thought they cared for my very loved dog. During the last few months of my dogs life, they were increasingly dismissive and cold towards us.
I felt like I was put in a situation where I had to beg for my dog to get appointments to be seen. During an episode of bloody diarrhea, I called as soon as they opened and pleaded for an appointment. My husband and I called multiple times and begged for him to be seen. We were instead told to pick up some.

We were instead told to pick up some meds. When the meds were not working, we started calling again to beg for him to be looked at.
Once again, we were told to take him somewhere else. After 9 years of my dog learning to trust them, they told us to just go see someone else. We did as we were told and had to have our dog euthanized by complete strangers to both him and us. I hope Dr. Bender at some point feels sorry for the situation she put us in. She pretended for years that she had compassion for myself and my pet, but she clearly had none.
Due to the new vet being a great distance away, I sat home with my young children, while my husband put my dog of 10 years down alone. I didn’t get to say goodbye to my dog. My dog deserved better and so does yours.

Up until December 2020, I was satisfied with the services and process here. I requested a well check visit with the vet. The appointment was canceled and moved twice with little notice or reason. Once my pet was seen, we did not get a follow up call from the office with test results as requested. Eventually found out through a courtesy call that my pet may need follow up care- unsure of when or if I will ever get a call from the vet. Still no test results. If you want to stress out even more about your pet, bring them here.

I have been coming to Companion for almost 2 years. When I first started to bring my dog here straight from a shelter they never offered me a stool test and the doctor that we originally had, anytime we asked a question about crate training, her food we should buy etc. she didn't give us anything specific just gave us pamphlets. That should have been a first red flag to find a new vet.
We express to them how we noticed that our dog had a really nasty cough when we first got her and we were told "it's probably just a puppy cough she'll get over it". Not even two days later we found worms in her stool so that was another $vet visit for the tests and check up. That we now realize should've been done the very first time we brought her.
Another thing that has really bothered me about Companion is my dog has a skin allergy which means she'll always have to take a morning pill since the shot didn't work well with her. We were told We have to go back every four months to get a check up in order for us to refill her medicine for a condition she'll always have. I understand bringing her in if it really flares up but every 4 months?
On three separate occasions after I gave them the 24 hour notice like they ask for to refill her prescription they have told me when I went to go pick it up that it was not there and that there was no notes in the system for a refill, so to come back another day to get it which is another waste of time, when they should be more prepared. I honestly feel like Companion is more in it for the money-making rather than for the actual health of your animal(s). I will now be looking for a new vet due to these reasons listed as well as other things that have occurred.

I am new to the area and had not yet found a vet in state when my cat, Ginny, needed emergency care last week. The staff at Companion Animal Hospital were incredible. They got Ginny in immediately, the doctor even agreed to shorten her lunch break to see her at a convenient time. Ginny was comfortable and happy the whole time. Ginny had to stay over night and the vet texted me throughout the evening, checked in with me at night and again in the morning to let me know how she was doing and what her care was going to look like, so I never had to worry.
They provided excellent care and she is all better. Additionally, they took great care of me. I tripped on my way in and hurt my ankle and leg and the staff came to help, gave me an ice pack and ointment for my scrapes and allowed me to wait comfortably while Ginny got her x rays and I iced my ankle. They checked in on me before I left and when I came back the next day. All around kind, caring, wonderful office.

I couldn't be happier with my visit at Companion Animal Hospital today. My dog was feeling under the weather and I frantically called them and explained the whole situation, they were very compassionate and understanding of my worry. The receptionist was able to squeeze me in for an appointment and then called back and told me to come in right away.
The customer service was impeccable, I could tell they genuinely cared about my dog. The nurse and doctor were very nice and knowledgeable as well. They did not upsell me and were very honest about my options. We'll be back, hopefully just for a routine checkup next time!

If I could give zero I would. My regular vet was out due to family emergency. So I took her here, made an appointment but wasn't seen till 30 min after appointment time. The doctor gave us two option for care of our dog. Option one was over $800 and option 2 was $200. We opt for option 2, but when we signed the papers they had it in there contract that the price could go up 15% got everything they recommend and left. Took my dog to her vet today and he didn't understand why they prescribe her three different medications.
He asked us to stop those medications because he didn't see why she should be taking them with her condition she was having. When we got home I research and found out that places up charge for services. I don't agree with this at all. These are our pets they are family. When we were in the office waiting there where three different people asking about pricing when they were checking out.

Just took in my dog for second visit. First visit no diagnosis but gave pain meds. 2nd visit dog is having wet cough and runny nose. They want X-rays and want me leave my dog even though I was willing to stay. but they said they were too busy call back at 2:00. I call back and dog has lung infection and they want to give antibodies and see again on a week.
I go pick him up at 3:00. The X-ray office visit and meds were 290.00. However they charged additional fees for keeping dog for a day and they didn't even start him on the meds. I don't mind paying for good service. This was bad service and overcharging. Avoid coming here

Been going to Companion Animal Hospital since we moved to Eastern CT, since around 2006 or so. Staff are always friendly with us and our pet. Very knowledgable with Veterinary care. Have trusted their staff for several surgeries that kept our dog healthy. Wish we would have gotten pet insurance long ago, but we make due to ensure our dog recieves the best care. Trust them so much that when we moved a few towns over, we still bring our pet there. Highly recommended.

I had to bring my 10 yr old lab there today to get put down. It was a very difficult experience for me but the staff here made it a lot easier. Dr. De Wolf and her assistant Olivia were fantastic. They made the process a lot easier, gave me all the time I needed to spend with my boy. I sincerely thank them very much. I hope nobody has to go through the agony of doing this but rest assured, this place WILL take care of you. Thanks again!

Hands down the best vet I've ever taken my animals to. From the receptionists to the vet techs, and doctors this team is amazing. I have two cats and two dogs that tend to get into a lot of " oopsies" CAH is always there to help and fitting in last minute appointments. The only vet team I've ever felt comfortable having to leave my animals at when they're sick. Trust me when I say this place is the best!

Earlier this year, the staff at Companion Animal Hospital took amazing care of our cat, who looked like he was on his death bed. Dr. Earl and Margaret Mummert are wonderful, caring, and compassionate doctors. We really appreciated their help and are thankful for the good care that they gave our little guy. With their care, he pulled through. We bring both of our cats to this clinic and they take great care of them. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!

This office is so caring and friendly. Dr Earl and Margaret Mummert are the best vets out there anywhere. They truly care about our pets and go the extra mile. Dr Earl has operated on our lab and it was such a success. She really liked going in to see him. Dr women at the front desk, Pam & Yvette are wonderful. I cannot say enough about this facility.

This office is by far the most caring and committed for their patients and customers. My Blue has been using their day boarding system for the last few months while I was working and it was her home away from home. She was always excited to go and be with her friends at CAH. We were preparing her for the transition of transferring to Guam and once I told the Vet what we were doing, she took over and completed all the research to ensure that Blue met all the requirements necessary to enter Guam.
I have nothing negative to say about this staff, all I can say is thank you for making our Blue one of your priorities. I emphatically recommend CAH for any pet care needs and boarding. The boarding staff is proactive and extremely friendly. Blue loved them and I know she was loved there. We will miss you guys and will send you pics of Baby Blue as she continues to grow.

This is a very caring and compassionate group of people! They always follow up with a phone call or two and can get us in quickly for an appointment. We had to make the difficult decision to put our dog down a month ago. A week after, we recieved a handwritten note from the vet and an ornament with our dogs paw print on it. It was so sweet and thoughtful! I have not heard of a clinic doing this. They really went above and beyond their call of duty. We really appreciated it and will never forget their thoughtfulness!

I have a cat and I have been bringing him here for check ups and vaccinations, so I cant provide a review based on surgery or emergency care. I pay $60 for check-ups, and I dont think it's that outrageous of a price, IMO. The staff, including the veterinarian, is very friendly and seem like compassionate people, which is important to me since theyre handling my fur baby. It's a clean, well maintained office too. I would recommend this office to a friend.

Good at what they do but they overcharge (and this is coming from someone who spends _thousands_ of dollars a year on vet bills for 6 animals, so I'm not a cheap person who doesn't want to pay for companion animal care). Similar products, clinical tests, etc. can all be found for less at other reliable vets' offices (including Ocean State Vets).
