My name is Brooke Schwabenton Townsend, but most people just call me Dr. Brooke. I grew up here in Greensboro, NC- riding horses through Adams Farm back when it really was a farm! I left Greensboro for school- completing my undergraduate studies at Warren Wilson College outside of Asheville and then receiving my doctorate in veterinary medicine at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After vet school, I completed a one year internship at the University of Missouri Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Banker is a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry with over 30 years of advanced dental experience. Advanced dental care is available, including periodontal therapy, root canals, crowns and orthodontics. Dr. Banker was the first person in the Mid Atlantic States to become certified as a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry.
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of twice yearly physical examinations. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners.
To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time. For your convenience, 'drop-off' appointments are available.
Many people have questions about various aspects of their pet's surgery, and we hope this information will help. It also explains the decisions you will need to make before your pet's upcoming surgery. Is the anesthetic safe? Today's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past.

I'd been living part time in Greensboro to finish college for a couple of years. My final year I moved down full time and brought my elderly heart dog with me. He'd been in kidney failure for quite some time at that point. We only went to Sedgefield twice. The first time was to just do his yearly checkup and a couple of months later, to say goodbye.
I wasn't a long term client and it had been a battle for months to keep my boy well. When the time came, it was in early June of 2020 (the height of the COVID shutdown) and I knew at that point that it wouldn't be fair to make him sit in the car for 2 hours to drive back to our home in Charlotte. I called Sedgefield that day thinking that I'd more than likely be told I'd have to take him to an emergency vet after hours and not be able to stay with him, but Sedgefield was so compassionate.
I can't remember their names specifically, but the vet we'd seen for his checkup earlier that year said that she and a tech would stay after and meet me there. Their back yard area is beautiful, green grass and a nice big tree for shade. My Pootie dog and I used to love lying in the yard together at home in the shade. They brought out a blanket and when I carried him to it they were both crying as well.
It was the perfect day. I don't think we could've had a better experience anywhere else. It has been two years now since that day, and I'll never forget how well it went considering. These folks actually care, and coming from someone who worked for 15 years in the pet industry, that should mean a lot. Thank you, Sedgefield. Pootie and I will never forget our last day together with you.

Really great experience here. Due to the pandemic and a difficult pregnancy, I had let my dogs vaccinations etc lapse. I was really embarrassed to take him in, but Dr. Brooke was totally understanding and not judgemental. She was extremely knowledgeable and spent a lot of time with me answering questions and making good suggestions. Highly recommended

I was told today by the vet that, "I don't get unlimited time" when the vet needed to leave first to see another patient and then to go pick up her kids. While I understand emergencies happen, they could have simply asked if I could reschedule and not make that incredibly rude comment. She also said to me that my assessment of time was off and that she had spent enough time talking to me. The vet said she'd call me to answer other questions. I didn't take off work for a phone call. The situation could have been handled with much more grace.

I know COVID has caused negative issues for many businesses but we had a scheduled appointment for our elderly dog who is very anxious. We arrived well before our appointment time, checked in and waited in the parking lot due to COVID protocol. We waited 20 minutes past our appointment time and left in frustration while other cars were coming and going, picking up their pets and getting attention.
I received a call from the office after we left asking where we were and I told them we had to leave. Our dog was in distress from the ride and the long wait so we went home. Now, I've tried to call back twice to reschedule and I'm put on hold (long waits again), then I was told they'll call me back because they're so busy. I've been bringing my dogs here for over 20 years and it seems they either overbook or are just incredibly slow.
I've always been frustrated with them pushing dental services and unnecessary shots and tests that my dogs don't really need and their prices are extremely high. If my last surviving dog wasn't 10 years old and in declining health I would definitely shop around for another veterinarian office. Note: We've decided to move to a different Veterinarian practice. We've been loyal customers at Sedgefield for well over 20 years but we can't endure the poor service anymore.

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Poore! She guided us through our dogs needs and spent a long time explaining how the surgery would go. We received phone calls through out her surgery about updates of Katie's tooth removal. So thankful for Dr. Poore and her passion and love for all animals. She truly is the most wonderful Veterinarian!

Vets are expensive, but this one delivers top-notch care. Both of my dogs routinely visit. When my 14 year old had an incurable situation I couldn't believe how compassionate the entire staff was. My sweet old dog had a lovely transition to the Rainbow Bridge, and I'm very thankful for the measures the doctor and staff took to make sure she was comfortable. Not only are they great at what they do, they're personable and friendly. They even have their own pets :

This place is amazing and you can feel how much they care for your pets! I had an emergency with my dog (which is my baby) and they did there absolute best. I had to go to an emergency vet after but even after a week from them seeing my fur baby they called everyday to check on him. It was my first time there and they still thought to call to check on him everyday. It's the little things that mean so much. So happy I decided to take my dog here.

They have really been amazing, they helped my german shepherd Micah who is a constant talker annoyingly, in the first day with a great bed side manner. Dr. Brook and her crew are awesome.. not only did they fix my baby but they were very considerate of financial situation. They came up with a plan that helped us afford her treatment better. I will recommend them to anyone.

I would highly recommend! Dr Townsend And the entire staff was amazing and gave us the best care for our fur baby! DJ injured her neck somehow and they did all the test X-rays right onsite. Answered all of our questions and spent quality time with us and our dog. DJ didn't get any rest last night and was in pain today after the visit she has not cried once we know it's going to take time for our girl to heal but so highly impressed with the care DJ received today! Thanks so much to you all!

This in my opinion is a very complete facility with a very competent staff. My Sheppard mix's diet had slowed to nothing and I went to my vet (Viewmont Animal Hospital) in Hickory, NC. She was diagnosed as being an older dog. That's no lie! I took her here thinking she may have a dental problem and the doctor checked her over completely. Checked her mouth, teeth, eyes, heart, lungs & physical structure.
He reported that the dog has worn teeth because she's an older dog but that nothing suggests to him the dog's diet has declined because of her teeth. He continued. Your dog has Lymphoma. I couldn't believe my ears. But the facts are facts. He told me that when ever swollen nodes are discovered it pretty much mean lymphoma. They did blood work and I spoke to the doctor the next day.
We elected not to continue with the western medical practice of getting a biopsy and putting her through cemo. All said I thank you Doc for at least giving us an answer. Yes our heart is broken but this clinic examined my dog completely to get that answer.
