I am so happy with South Putnam Animal Hospital.. I called as an emergency for my chihuahua, Magic, as he didn't seem right..
The very pleasant receptionist gave me a same day appointment..
Upon arriving I was thanked for completing my form on line and was seen immediately..The assistants all did their part in preparing for the doctor.
Dr. Gill arrived being professional, caring and concerned for Magic's well-being.
Ran some bloodwork and a quick procedure.
By the next morning Dr. Gill called with test results, explained very clearly everything letting me know what I was up against.
Magic was extremely sick...
Dr. Gill was most sympathic and I went with her guidance..
Two days later I was back with Magic..The entire staff was the most warm and caring individuals I've ever come across.
The ending was sad but I'll always be greatful for the exceptional care I, as well as Magic received.
I highly recommend this animal hospital..

Since moving to the neighbourhood with three mischievous cats last year, South Putnam Animal hospital have overseen their care. We've always found them extremely friendly and professional, with each staff member genuinely caring for each little creature as if it were their own. They always take the time to answer my many queries and questions, even calling out of hours to discuss treatment plans when I had concerns.
Having had mixed experiences with vets in the past, we feel extremely blessed to have found such top rate care and service!

If you don't mind judgemental vets who chastise you if your animal is not eating Science Diet or kidney food or some other outrageously expensive food, then by all means use this place. Was a client for many, many years with both cats and a dog. Never a nice word. Always a criticism, even though my animals were not only happy and healthy, but my two cats lived into their 20s despite being told time and time again that they both had severe kidney disease. Their only symptoms? The vets said their kidneys felt small. Not kidding. Oh, and they ate Fancy Feast for all those years and each of them was sick only on their last day.

I only moved to the neighborhood a week ago and my senior dog was suffering from congestive heart failure. I called a number of places and was promptly told no availability. I called So Putnam Animal and was seen that very afternoon. The doctor took time to review my dogs medical records so she became familiar with my dog. I highly recommend and now have a permanent vet.

My first experience here was due to the loss of the family dog. The compassion and expertise of the staff was meaningful. Now my wife and i just got a puppy, and the puppy loves to go. The staff are so friendly and helped answer all our questions. In short, it is a safe pet loving space.

The wonderful and caring doctors and staff of South Putnam Animal Hospital have been working with me and my pets over 25 years. At one point I moved to Connecticut and continued to travel back for all of my appointments driving over an hour each way. That is how fabulous this team is. I cannot imagine leaving my pets care to anyone else. I have seen people come and go over the years but each and every one has been caring and attentive. I cannot speak highly enough about this team of pet caregivers. I highly recommend South Putman Annimal Hospital and would never dream of going anywhere else!

My family has been taking our animals here for as long as I can remember. Over 25 years ago, I'm told that the receptionist would hold me as a baby when my parent's went in with our animals. Some of them still remember me as a child. I am always so pleased with their professionalism, courtesy, and standards of work. I know they truly want the best for our pets, and it shows.

I took my puppy for her wellness check there The staff is very friendly. They explained me all my options for immunization based on the life style that the dog will have. The prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend it.

Extremely horrible experience. Rude vet tech and rude front end. Vet tech had a problem with dog peeing on the floor (it's a dog!) and was judge mental about lifestyle rather than just providing proper education. Front end staff was also complaining about other patient's right infront of us. Very unprofessional staff. Much needed attitude adjustments before I ever think of returning. However, Doctor was sweet and very professional.

I had a fantastic experience with South Putnam Animal Hospital. You can tell they truly care about every animal that goes in. They were eager to help fit in an urgent appointment for my dog and every person I spoke to was so helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

I called South Putnam in an emergency situation after many other vets and hospitals had turned me away saying they aren't accepting new patients. My cat had been vomiting for a few days and not eating. South Putnam fit me in the next day! They were very kind and explained everything. They also made sure that I agreed to all of the charges before conducting any tests or procedures.

When we left, they thoroughly explained his medication and food and followed up in the next few days to check in. When they heard he still wasn't 100%, they offered to call back in another few days. I think Kitty Franklin, his siblings and I have found our new Vet! Thank you so much for taking such good care of him.

We have been coming here for over twenty years. The front desk staff always greets with a smile, friendly and personable. The doctors listen, understand and are compassionate. Unfortunately today I had a an emergency with my little one. The doctor said come right Over and she was seen right away. Once they figured out the issue the doctor called. The staff is great! Doctors are great! Everyone loves animals and it shows.

I've been bringing my pets to South Putnam Animal Hospital since they first set up practice in Mahopac. The doctors and staff are all wonderful. Through the years I've had both the happy and sad experiences of having pets and I've always felt compassion and support through the different staff I've encountered. My recent visit was with my cat Meli.

She has been neurologically impaired from birth and is now 16 years old- thanks to the excellent care and support she has received through the years from the understanding, knowledgeable and caring staff at SPAH.

I was very skeptical about taking Otis to a new vet, we've never had good experiences in the past. Dr. Karen Pedevillano was recommended to me and made me feel very comfortable from the very beginning. The staff was very kind and greeted Otis upon arrival. And even though I wasn't able to go in, Dr. P called me every few minutes to update me throughout the checkup. I would definitely recommend and will be returning.

I was very, very impressed by the quality and care they took when I brought my cat Abbey for the first time. Incredibly friendly and professional even assisting me to acquire previous records from another veterinarian. After the initial exam I was called in my car (covid-19) and we discussed the initial results which were all good. Then the veterinarian spoke to me asking if I wanted bloodwork done, cost and it was all very informative giving me a very clear picture of my choices.

In my case there wasn't and real need but I chose to do it as a precaution. What I guess I'm trying to say, is I felt extremely comfortable with Abbey's care and communication with me. I am getting a puppy in a few weeks and when I told the veterinarian, she joined me in my excitement and even gave me a book on puppy training even before her first visit!

I must certainly say that this is a immaculate, clean, modern facility that is well staffed with the ability to handle all veterinarian procedures your pet may need! I have used two other veterinarians so I certainly have some comparison. MY FULL RECOMMENDATION!

I have been with SPAH now for over 10 years and use them frequently with two cavaliers who have all the normal cavalier issues. Finding a vet that I trusted took time. Most of the other practices I tried would push the most aggressive (and expensive) treatments instead of what I was looking for which was a conservative approach. Dr. Fixman listens and has always suggested a conservative regiment!

She is caring and professional. If she says a script will be phoned in.it is phoned in.you don't go to pick up at the drug store only to find out nothing has been ordered. Can't tell you how often that happened in the past. I highly recommend Dr Fixman at South Putnam Animal Hospital.

Amazing place. Amazing front desk, vet and members of the staff. They took SUCH good care of my little Sky and also the vet answer the 7653849 questions I had about my dogs leg and skin conditions. Im very grateful I found this place. They gave me back the hope that my little Sky can have a normal life even with all the pain and discomforr she's going through right now. One day at a time and the vet will be with us every step of the way. Highly recommend this place.

I have been using south Putnam for the last 6 years. Every experience has been a great one except for one time.which must have just been a fluke. My dog was acting tired and we pulled ticks off him, south Putnam was able to see him the same day and start him on meds. The visit was quick and efficient.

I've been a client of this hospital since 1989 when I worked here, amazing doctors. I have continued to have multiple pets seen here over the years. I trust them with my fur babies and trust me that says a lot. The staff has always been great, even in the tough times when pets are ill or terminal. I highly recommend them for excellent medical care for your babies.

This is an excellent animal hospital - I couldn't recommend it more. The entire staff is friendly, professional, and empathetic. They have always made time for emergency visits, explained all options clearly, and made difficult decisions easier for us. They give excellent care, genuinely love animals, and always go above and beyond expectations.

This is an outstanding veterinary practice. It's 20 minutes from our house, up windy and hilly roads, and our two cats hate the drive and puke almost every time, BUT, we will not consider a practice closer to home. The care that the staff provides is thorough and they do it with great care and compassion. Their follow up is also stellar; you will always get at least one post-visit phone call. Can't recommend them highly enough!

We have been coming to South Putnam Animal Hospital for approximately 15 years for veterinary care for my dogs. The care we have received from Drs. Julie Fixman, Kathi Heiber and Cindy Kosacz has always been top notch. They are all excellent diagnosticians, intelligent and comprehensive practitioners and always take the time to ensure I understand my dog's diagnosis, plan of care and options.

The front-desk staff, animal care assistants and vet techs are all professionals who support the practice mission through their daily work while providing superior care for our pets and their people. I have been at SPAH for everything from routine well-pet visits to urgent medical situations and have always been thrilled by the consistent, compassionate and excellent care the entire staff provides.

Ive been using this vet since moving to Mahopac in 2011. I've probably dealt with every vet at this practice and I've always felt like they cared. We mainly see Dr. Mason who we love. The staff and doctors do follow up phone calls to check on my dog when he's having issues. Most importantly they take their time, listen, and don't rush through the appointment. I highly recommend this practice.

Kirby is an 18 year old neutered orange and white male cat who was diagnosed, by South Putnam Animal Hospital, with diabetes approx 1 & 1/2 years ago. He was brought to South Putnam Animal Hospital September 13, 2011, because he had been vomiting and not eaten for 2 days. During the office visit, Kirby's BG numbers and insulin dosages were discussed with Dr. Maria Kaprielian but, were not noted in his chart. : Dr. Kaprielian proceeded to take a blood sample and also and suggested an ultrasound which was scheduled for the following day, September 14, 2011.

After an injection of 10 mg Cerenia for nausea, I was instructed by Dr. Kaprielian to take Kirby home and provide him dinner. No instructions were given in regard to Kirby's dosage of insulin. Kirby was fed dinner at 6:00 pm, he ate approximately 3 ounce of food which he vomited 1 hour later. His last drink of water was at 10:30 pm. We were instructed to drop Kirby off at 10:30 am, the ultrasound technician would be in at 11:00am.

We were told to expect a call when the test was completed. I spoke with Dr. Judith Mason, before Kirby's ultrasound was performed, by Dr. Pawlusiow again reviewing BG numbers and insulin dosages this call & discussion was not noted in his chart. Kirby's ultrasound was performed at 11:58 pm we were not contacted to pickup him up until 5:30 pm. Kirby appeared lethargic but that he assumed they had administered something to calm him during the procedure.

The staff provided no information regarding his care during the day or his current state. When I arrived home at 7:00 pm Kirby was on the floor rigid, unconscious and havening seizures. We rushed him to Katonah Bedford Emergency hospital where, upon arrival, Kirby was having Grand Mal seizures and had stopped breathing. The hospital staff rushed him into the ICU unit; he was intubated, given glucose and treated in intensive care for 2 days Upon arrival at Katonah Bedford Emergency, Kirby's BG was tested it was so low it did not register on a BG meter.

While at Katonah Bedford, I contacted Dr. Mason at 8:10pm though her answering service. Dr. Mason claimed no knowledge of Kirby's diabetes even though he was diagnosed by South Putnam Animal Hospital and that diagnosis is in his hospital record. After the incident, in the am of 9/15, I again contacted South Putnam Animal Hospital and spoke to Dr. Heiber, owner of the practice.

She admitted Kirby was not provided food or water he did not have anything to eat or drink while he was in their care. Since Kirby had been both food and water restricted prior to the ultrasound as instructed, this 18 year, diabetic, ailing cat had no water for 24 hours, no food for 3 days. Rather, it appears that he remained in a cage unmonitored by South Putnam staff until we were called to pick him up at 5:30pm.

In addition, we were charged for 1/2 day hospitalization even though it is unclear what care was provided during this time. After my request for Kirby's records, many entries were made after the incident. These entries were made after the original entries. These statements are untrue and in my opinion were made to absolve any responsibly by South Putnam Animal Hospital. Kirby has been going to this vet his entire life, they certainly were well aware he was diabetic since they diagnosed the illness.

Failure to provide any animal food and water after a procedure requiring food and water restriction is negligence. Failing to provide an elderly, sick and diabetic cat is malpractice. I feel the treatment Kirby received at South Putnam and in Dr. Mason's care was mismanaged, negligent, indifferent and cruel. I am requesting a full investigation into this matter. If you require further information, please contact me anytime at
