Companion Animal Hospital of Plano is owned and operated by Dr. Mark W. Allen. Dr. Allen was born in Ft. Worth and raised in Odessa. He attended Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelors in Biomedical Science in 1980, a Masters in Veterinary Anatomy in 1983 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. In May of 1995 he opened Companion Animal Hospital of Plano. His primary concern is to treat your pet with the best possible care and the utmost compassion. His hobbies include reading, travel and cooking.
Services
Early detection of health problems can allow for prompt treatment. At least once and perhaps twice a year, your pet needs a complete physical exam. Remember, your pet's lifespan is shorter than ours and a lot can happen in 12 months. Dr. Allen is an accredited veterinarian with the USDA and can issue interstate health certificates.
We always welcome new clients to use our boarding facilities. But due to limited space during high volume times (holidays, school breaks, etc.), our boarding facility is for current Companiona Animal Hospital clients only during those times. We strongly recommend that you make advance reservations as soon as you know your tavel plans.

This is an amazing place with staff and the doctor is awesome. Confident location. I am so thankful to Gos for finding this vet for me. Not from there and went to a couple other locations and I advised the doctor I should have started here first. Really helped me with my fur baby. Was very concerned and they just showed a lot of empathy and love to her.they answered all my questions and their prices are really reasonable. Really impressed and so thankful. Thank you all for being just so loving and kind to my Rayne.

I have been to this vet several times, and I just cannot recommend Dr Allen. First, his clinic is still not allowing pet owners to go back in the rooms for the pet exams, They give COVID as the reason, but nobody there even wears a mask! (also, it's Oct 2021). Second, Dr. Allen did not even ask before he gave my cat 2 shots (of course, I was not in the room) Third, the cats that roam around the clinic are de-clawed; I thought all vets were against de-clawing! Dr. Allen is borderline rude to me at all times. I will not return.

I appreciate Dr. Mark, for he has taken good care of my miniature dachshund. In addition to her regular shots, he saw her on a Saturday when she had injured her neck (apparently on my coffee table). He was kind, found where she was injured right away, and prescribed pain killers. I trust him completely with my dog, Sparkles.

We've had a few visits to Companion Animal Hospital. it is the closest vet office to our home, and with some good reviews I've seen, we gave them a chance to take care of our dogs. Dr Allen seems very caring and straightforward. His staff is friendly and accommodating. They managed to fit us into their schedule quickly, and saw us right away.
They took care of our Peachy (cockapoo) both times. once for an ear infection and another time for some joint problems. In both instances, our dog was treated right away and was instantly better. Each time, the cost was reasonable and we were quite pleased.

Dr Allen and his staff have been our vet clinic for the last 25 years. They have taken care of 13 of our animals over that time including a guinea pig, foster puppies and our old diabetic mutt. They are wonderful, caring, responsive. I appreciate Dr Allen's no nonsense approach- he never recommends unnecessary tests and the treatment is always reasonable and realistic. I appreciate them all and would (and have) recommended them to anyone looking for a new vet clinic.

Ya give an honest and 100% accurate review, and a staff member replies in this manner. Is it just me, or is Kimberley W. very hostile. Her lack of professionalism and empathy solidifies my dissapointment with this place. I guess this was her way of saying, "I am very sorry to hear about your experience. We strive to do our best, and would love another opportunity to make it up to you." I mean, that is how most buisnesses would follow up if they sincerly cared about clients. PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING THIS PLACE Hi!
Let me just start out by saying- welcome to Texas! Clearly you're not from here, as you had stated upon walking into our disappointing place. That being said, we did wear masks AND to ensure proper social distancing (because of people like you) we do not allow the clients back in the exam rooms which you obviously did not understand. Hm. As far as the cats. well, I hate to break it to ya but this is a animal clinic!
And many, many, MANY, animal clinics have clinic cats. Its actually quite common and never frowned upon! Well, except for you, of course. Did you know that many clinics have clinics dogs as well as cats!? Oh my gosh! So cool, I think! But. let's get down to the nitty gritty of your fabricated review; $50 is the standard office call fee for most clinics.
In fact, some charge more (call around, if you don't believe me) And, the penicillin, prednisone and vitamin B 12 injection your dog was given was a COMBINATION/three shots in ONE (not three different shots, to be clear) and is the more conservative, less invasive treatment for GI issues. It also takes about 24 hours, give or take, for the medication to fully work into the animals system and initiate a response.
So by taking your dog to a different clinic in the time frame you are claiming. I'm sorry to say but, there is no way to confirm which treatment was successful and which was not. I'm sure the clinic in Richardson treated your dog respectfully, as we did, in their own way. but sadly, your lack of knowledge hinders you and I really feel for those who have yet to experience such ignorance. It's a shame. Best of luck to you!

I am a new dog owner, and Dr. Allen and his staff have been absolutely wonderful to me and my dog. Jennifer, who works at the front desk, always remembers who my dog and I are and always addresses both of us by name! They have done a wonderful job of cleaning her teeth, providing bladder stone surgery, and just taking care of my dog in general! They are very friendly and they have the best prices in the area. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone in need of low cost, quality, personalized care!

Without a doubt the best Vet around! The entire staff are amazing, kind and truly care about your pet's well being. They don't over vaccinate or push treatments that are not necessary like other places I've been to. I wouldn't go anywhere else even if I had to drive across the metroplex. Highly recommended, professional and all at very reasonable rates. Am always surprised when paying because it's exceptionally priced at reasonable, if not very low rates, for a high quality experience and treatment.
My dog even required a surgery that was much cheaper than I would've expected and they did a terrific job as well as made sure to be available if anything came up or if I had questions. Couldn't ask for more, better service and treatment than the Vet and staff provide at Companion.

We used Dr. Allen's services for the first time with our 12 1/2 year old miniature Maltese. The staff was serious, but highly accommodating and effective. Dr. Allen was great with our dog. He explained the issues (teeth that needed removal, and allergy issues.) He took ample time with our pet and recommended precisely what we needed to do going forward. And, his pricing is quite fair compared to some of the other veterinary clinics in the area.

Best veterinarian I've ever had! Went above and beyond to take care of our dog when he was very sick, even going as far as to meet us at the clinic after hours to keep us from going to the emergency vet. He doesn't ever try and push unnecessary tests or procedures. The front office staff is also great and I would trust any of them with my pets in a heartbeat!

I had a very unpleasant experience with this vet clinic today. I've used them on/off for several years but prefer Parker Animal and Bird or Vax Shack. Out of convenience, I used Companion Animal today for a quick bordetella vaccination and anal gland extraction for 2 of my dogs. This is routine and my dogs are very familiar with both of these procedures. Dr. Allen entered the room with a straight face, no smile, no greeting, seemed irritated he had to do his job.
He handled my dogs in such a rough way, one tried to bite him (she's never done this). She was terrified and he showed NO empathy. I owned a pet business for years and have worked with many vets in this area, never have I seen a Vet treat a pet this way. I was shocked. Both of my dogs, shook and cried for 30 minutes after they left Companion Animal. They've NEVER acted like this after getting either procedure.
Please be careful if you choose to use this facility. He is not a nice person and does not seem to care about the pets he's being paid to help or the customer who was sitting in the room with him witnessing this awful interaction with my sweet dogs.

First, I want to say that if you are in need of great veterinarian services look no further than Companion Animal Hospital of Plano. Dr. Allen and his staff, Jennifer, and Kimberly are simply the best. Again, I can't stress how great they are. Do not hesitate bringing your pet here, they will get the best of care. Dr. Allen and his staff take their time to explain everything and have never tried to add unnecessary test, or medicines. One of our dogs lived to be over 19 years old and I always knew she was in great care with Dr. Allen Great job and thanks for everything.

I brought my year and a half dog in because he caught one of his dew claws on something while playing, and it had broke near the base and was bleeding. The receptionist told me all they were going to do was a nail trim and some pain meds. I was the first client that morning, and maybe it was a rough morning for the staff, but that does not exempt how they treated my pup.
First when we were brought into the room, the vet did not even say hi or introduce himself or ask me for my name (it was my first time there and I was looking for a new vet to go to). Him and the assistant immediately picked up my nearly 70 lbs dog onto the table and held him down on his side to clip his nails. When he got to the dew claw, he just clipped it and my dog yelped and cried and started hyperventilating, and that's when I got really upset because there was no compassion whatsoever.
His nail started to bleed and the vet put the quick stop on it, and after clipping all the nails, he then injected something to help the pain. COULDNT THEY HAVE DONE THAT OR SEDATE HIM BEFORE CLIPPING OFF THE DEW CLAW?!?! It was really painful to watch, and my heart sank when neither of them were comforting him but just holding him down. I had to go over and comfort him and was telling him "it's okay" while the vet made fun of him for hyperventilating and then continued to ask me to hold his paw down. Afterwards they just sent me and my dog home with no instructions on how to care for the dew claw if it needed any care. I've been keeping a close watch on it, and the dew claw that he clipped is starting to look infected. I'm not bringing him back here ever, and will be finding another vet who can care for my puppy with real compassion.

I Love Companion Animal Hospital. I wouldn't take my dogs and cats anywhere else, and I haven't for 15 years. Dr. Allen is very experienced and competent and he does anything that will actually have a positive impact on your pet's health. He's treated my pets for some really tricky things like cancer, congestive heart failure, feline aids, kidney failure. He does not do expensive diagnostics or specialty supplemental things, he's respectful of your pets, your money and your concerns.

I've been coming here for two years and now a recently introduced a second pup to Dr. Allen & Staff. They were incredibly gracious and humble when my first dog died in March. I am moving further away, but will continue with Dr. Allen and his staff; their compassionate, superior service is worth the drive :

My dogs were in need of their annual dental cleanings and being new to the area, I stopped by to check out this place after reading other positive Yelp reviews. The staff was really friendly and their price for doggie dental cleaning was very reasonable compared to what I had paid in the past in another state. The day of the appointment, Dr. Allen came out to greet us in the reception area before the vet tech took the dogs back for their dental procedures.
I am always super nervous when my dogs have to go under anesthesia, but they did great and were ready to go home in a few hours. Jennifer did a fantastic job cleaning my babies teeth. Pearly whites and fresh breath! I had also discussed an issue with Dr. Allen regarding one of my dog's nails and allergies. When I picked up the dogs, Dr. Allen was kind enough to take the time to explain both situations to me. I was very impressed with this animal hospital and feel relieved to have found a great place to take my dogs now that I live in Plano.

Want to thank Dr Allen and his great staff for the visit today! I brought our Chow Chow in for a skin issue that I thought was bigger than it was. Dr Allen spent about 10 min with us, told me it was no big deal and didn't charge me for the visit! We have never had to wait long to be seen. They have a very flexible schedule and very reasonable prices. We will highly recommend them! Thank you!

Bottom line before I get into my review, if you have a cat and need a vet, this is the place to go. We've been through a few vets and it has been our experience that most practices favor dogs and seem to be inexperienced with working with cats. We've even been made to feel like our pet was an especially difficult case. As it turns out, we've just been going to the wrong places. Dr Allen and his staff are courteous and friendly but most importantly skilled and professional.
As we watched them work, it was obvious they had a lot of experience in working with cats. They handled our cat gently yet kept appropriate control of him in order to keep him safe while performing his annual exam. They were very helpful and informative and even performed routine tasks like nail trimming without being asked. They were very thorough and answered all of our questions.
Most of all, their demeanor was very comforting and made us feel like our pet was in good hands. The prices are also very reasonable compared to a lot of other places. We have finally found an appropriate, feline experienced vet and will stick with them.
