Established in 2001, Good Hands Veterinary Hospital has been providing high quality veterinary care to cats and dogs in Athens and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. We understand that pets are family which is exactly why we treat our patients as if they were our own. If you're looking for compassionate care and individual treatment for your furry friend, you've come to the right place. Ever since we first opened our doors, we've been committed to our patients and the people who love them.
Good Hands Veterinary Hospital was founded in 2001 by our late founder, Dr. Monica Kucher, a talented veterinarian, mother, and wife. A 1989 graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Kucher practiced veterinary medicine here in the Athens area for over 23 years. She took great pride in her work and earned a reputation for her high quality care, her straightforward approach to medicine, and her genuine concern for her patients. She embodied the values that our hospital strives to uphold every day and, although she's no longer with us, she'll always be our Chief.
Our veterinarians offer preventive care, wellness exams and services for kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs. Diagnostic imaging allows our veterinarians to look at your pet internally for clues about sickness or injury. Dental care is an essential part of your pet's overall health to prevent dental disease and tooth loss.
Let Good Hands Veterinary Hospital provide professional care for your kitten, puppy, cat, or dog. A physical exam is the smartest and easiest way to keep your pet healthy. Wellness exams allow our veterinarians to detect problems and diseases that might go undiscovered otherwise, including heart murmurs, tumors, enlarged organs, cataracts, ear infections, ear mites, dental disease, skin issues and allergies.

The veterinary clinic maintains impeccable cleanliness, pays meticulous attention to detail, conducts thorough examinations, and provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They go the extra mile to ensure that every aspect of your pet's health is explained in great detail, addressing all your inquiries. Moreover, they efficiently manage appointments, ensuring minimal waiting time. I wholeheartedly endorse their services if you're in search of a top-notch veterinary clinic!

As a first time pet owner, I was worried about my 1st time taking my sweet kitty to the vet. However, this place knocked my socks off and far exceeded my expectations. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and upfront about pricing and answering questions from the get go. Upon getting to the visit, staff were very welcoming, and the building honestly felt like a spa.
The vet and vet tech my cat and I saw were kind and caring towards my cat and explained everything to me. After the visit, the vet even stayed with me to answer all my questions. No rush, no trying to get you out the door. Pricing was affordable and the quality of care was better than that of most people doctors. The staff called the day after to check up on my cat too! Will be back!

Getting a new puppy is exciting, but it can be a little daunting trying to make sure you're doing the very best to insure their health and happiness. The folks at Good Hands did a wonderful New Patient Exam and we're very patient with me as well, with all my questions. Even when I called later that day, they did every thing they could to alleviate any worries I had. Fantastic experience, amazing staff.

Dr. David is the best doctor we have ever seen! He takes his time and thoroughly explains everything. You can see he cares and is a compassionate person! I trust doctor David with my dog completely. Plus the stuff is always very nice and quick to answer any questions I may have. One staff member named Kasey has always been very nice and helpful to me.
I love this Vet office and I recommend others go to this vet office if you want soma Doctor that truly wants to see your dog get better and does his best to make that happen as quick as possible. 5/5 every time I go!

Long, but I feel like important. We have used this vet for years, and slowly transferred our blended home animals over there because if it's convenient location. Although it has seemed in the past couple years that they were operating in a more corporate fashion, they took good care of our animals and were friendly, so we let it slide. However, after a recent experience we will be finding a new vet for all of out animals.
Our elderly mixed lab has had an ongoing skin infection and has tried a couple different antibiotics. A month ago, he came in, got a full check-up and lab work (which they were late in getting the results back, and followed up with an e-mail instead of a phone call like we were told would happen). Lab work was ok, and his skin cleared up. A couple days ago, I noticed the same infection looked like it was coming back - since we were going out of town this week, I wanted to see if we could get some more of the same antibiotic so it didn't worsen while we were gone.
When I called, they said that our dog would have to come in again because it had been more than a week since he had been in to have his skin checked. I told them that we were going out of town and asked if they had any availability tomorrow - and was offered an appointment the next week. I again explained that we would be out of town and asked why we couldn't just try another round of the same antibiotic and follow-up next week after we got back in town if they have no availability tomorrow.
I was then told that that would be "unsafe" and that the vets "don't feel comfortable" prescribing without seeing the animals first. I never talked to a vet. I told her that bottom line, demanding a visit when there isn't one available for more than a week feels greedy - and not in the best interest of my pet (remember he was there a MONTH ago). The final straw was this comment "the vets stand up for themselves more than Monica did." I will not be going back.

I love the personal attention and service I get from Good Hands Veterinary Hospital. The front desk staff are friendly and know who we (me and the kitties) are as soon as I walk in. One of the things I like most about Good Hands is that it doesn't feel like a "get 'em in - get 'em out" assembly line which has been my experience at a few others vets in the city.
The vets & techs spend time in the room to really explain things to me thoroughly. All of the doctors are great with my kitties; & have just the right combination of friendliness, humor and knowledge. The techs & support staff are so friendly & accommodating. It's obvious that the entire staff care about animals and are focused on doing what is best for them.
