Please expect longer than usual wait times for return calls as we are only doing vaccines one day a week at this time. For current clients, we are accepting walk ups to the door Thursdays (1-3PM) and Fridays (10-3PM) for preventatives. Your pet must be spayed or neutered or documentation provided upon arrival. Beginning in February, Prevent A Litter will offer a new Program to benefit community cats by encouraging existing and potential feeders to adopt a new colony. Named "The Margaret Doran Community Cat Food Pantry", this fund establishes a food bank in memory of Margaret Doran, who dedicated her life to saving the lives of homeless cats.

Prevent A Litter is the first low-cost spay/neuter hospital in Virginia. Others would be abandoned to the streets, suffering from cold and hunger while spreading disease and adding to the city's already staggering number of stray and feral animals. The mission of Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital is to eliminate the killing of healthy, otherwise adoptable companion animals simply because they are surplus and cannot be placed in loving homes.
Because of our low prices and a dedicated staff, we are in high demand! We have a very small facility, with only one surgery room, so appointments fill up quickly. We also currently only have two veterinarians performing surgery at this time. In order to schedule appropriately and to ensure that we can accommodate everyone in our small facility, we must speak with everyone when scheduling an appointment. We are not able to schedule appointments through email, nor are we able to leave a message for a client without confirming that date first.
The mission of Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital is to eliminate the killing of healthy, otherwise adoptable companion animals simply because they are surplus and cannot be placed in loving homes. Since we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, consider making a tax-deductible donation. Your donation will be directly utilized to spay or neuter a dog or cat, or to cover a special surgery for an animal that might otherwise have been euthanized due to their owner's inability to pay.Your generous gift and support will prevent more unwanted animals from being born, while keeping more good homes available to those that are already waiting!

Cannot stress how wonderful of a service PAL provides for the Richmond area. I was fearful I would have to wait months when I found my ~5mo stray kitten. They responded to my form request within 24 hours and had an appointment set for two weeks later. Neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated and micro-chipped for $141. Cannot beat that when my normal vet wanted $130 for the neutering alone!

Place of great works! The staff and vet doctors truly care about animals and their wellbeing. For low income pet surgery this is place you want to take your animal or even neighborhood strays for they too will be cared for with amazing love! The wait might deter but honestly it's completely worth it to have your pets/strays taken care of here.

Amazing start to finish. They set expectations in the voice mail and on the website. They are obviously busy due to extraordinary pricing but they met the expectations they set. Very professional and organized with Covid protocols from drop off to pick up. 3 cats (brothers) fixed and all the shots for $180.would have cost $500-$600 at the vet I WAS going to. Richmond is truly blessed to have this amazing non-profit here. Can't say enough great things. Thank you so much for providing this service!

This organization is amazing! I had my two rabbits fixed there recently. Everyone I talked to at PAL was extremely knowledgeable & had excellent customer service. They were very patient with me & willing to explain anything I had questions about. This helped me to know I was getting the best care for my buns. You can tell they truly care about the animals they are seeing. Both of my bunnies are doing wonderfully & I can’t thank everyone at PAL enough for their quality of care at an affordable price.
