Annual wellness evaluations are extremely important to the maintenance of a happy, healthy pet. Your pet ages at a rate six to seven times faster than we do as humans, so an annual or semiannual exam is equivalent to you visiting your primary care physician every three to seven years. In the case of our geriatric patients, over the age of 8, a twice yearly visit becomes more appropriate and important. Also in the care of specific conditions or with long term medications it is very important to monitor the effects of drugs even more frequently.
Accreditation involves being measured against over 900 standards of veterinary care across 18 categories. Fifty are mandatory, and then a certain number of additional points must be accumulated across the 18 categories. A practice calls the accreditation team at 800-252-2242 or emails them at [email protected].
Dr. Jenny N. Larsen received her B.S. from Smith College. She then attended VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her D.V.M. degree. Beginning in April of 2009, Dr. Larsen became our Veterinarian-In-Charge. She held a position on the executive board of the Central Virgina Veterinary Association as secretary-treasurer from 1992 to 1997. She also organized and directed local publicity for National Pet Week for two years. Dr. Huth received her B.S. in Biology/Chemistry at VCU in 1982.
Melinda grew up in Norfolk Virginia. She went to college at Virginia Tech and graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology. Throughout high school and College she volunteered at the local vet clinic and the Norfolk Zoo. She was accepted into the Vet Tech program at Blue Ridge Community College and graduated in 1996.

I have used poker shock animal hospital for 20 years they are the nicest people you could ever want to take care of your animal. I was so impressed when my kitty after having her 17 years and she was so sick and she would never get better. They put her to sleep and delivered her to me in her carrier that was so professional and she had a beautiful burial and I added a flag with birds I will all. I will will always use pocoshock Animal Hospital thank you all for being so caring for my animal thank you all and God bless

Everyone is so kind and caring! Our dog Stony feels so much more comfortable with the staff than the office we used to take him to, which makes a huge difference. While he probably won't ever "love" going to the vet, he does love seeing everyone there and does butt wiggles galore when he sees all his favorite ladies!

I want to thank Pocoshock Animal Hospital for the kindness that was given to us when we unexpectedly had to put our sweet boy”Dude” down. Dr Jenny Larsen helped us through this extremely hard time. Her kindness, compassion, and understanding helped us get through our sorrow. Thank you so much, Dr Larsen, for being the kind and sincere person you are. You have helped us so much to get through this trying time.

The doctor itself was really nice to us and liked our dog but my problem is with the girl that worked in the front desk and the girl that took our dog. They were saying that our dog wasn't the breed we told them when we told them that it is that breed they said that it's not but our dog is mix so of course he will not look exactly like that breed but they were saying that he's not that breed and he doesn't look like that breed and was shaking their heads and like trying to make it look like we were lying about our dog's breed.
Even the doctor said that he's really the breed we told them. This vet should really find someone that is actually nice to work at the front desk. The doctor was really nice to us tho.

Dr. Larson makes my cat's vet visits so easy. She is knowledgeable, kind and understands the needs of cats. Penny is never nervous or upset by vet visits with Dr. Larson. I would guess Dr. Larson is great with all animals but I only have one cat at this time. I highly recommend Dr. Larson as a caring, patient and knowledgeable veterinarian. Another thing I like about this clinic is I am never surprised by an expensive bill. They let me know what the cost will be and provide me with options, always helping me plan for what is needed. No pressure, just reliable advice.

Wonderful, took my dog to Blvd. Never to my knowledge did he seem same vet. I don't believe I even saw a vet. Got several diagnostics. Nothing definite. Changed to Pokoshock, 1st visit, she told me what had to be done. Other Dr Huth worked with Dr Gray for many years. She is great. My hats off to Pokoshock. They were great with me and my dog.

We have been taking our rescue pitbull here for 2 years now and we love everyone. The Techs are knowledgeable and friendly both to our dog and us (we may be a little biased to Brenda who just loves Sable). Dr. Larson is so sweet and helpful every time we visit and we have seen Dr. Friedriech twice now for a last minute appointment and even though our dog is a little fearful of him he’s always been friendly and informative. We will take our animals here as long as we live in the area and always recommend them.

Dr. Larson is the most wonderful caring vet ever! She was so wonderful helping me when my Molly passed over the rainbow bridge and made such a hard day and decision better. She has also continued to help me with my other Shih Tzu Haley's medical problems a wonderful loving human being I can't say enough good things about her. I've been coming here for many years and several dogs all well cared for by Dr. hickey and Dr. Larson.

Dr. Larson is the absolute best veterinarian we have ever used. Now that we live an hour and a half away, she still gives us second opinion’s and listens to our concerns. If you are able to utilize Dr. Larson and her team, your pets will be well cared for and healthy for his long as possible. They do an amazing job!

I have gone to Pocoshock Animal Hospital for many years, and what keeps me going there is the feeling I have regarding the staff. I feel they love my dog, which is very important. From the time I walk in, the receptionist is friendly and kind. When we go back to the exam room, the tech is always friendly and treats me and my dog with kindness and respect.
The Vet I see, Dr. Larsen, is a kind, skilled Veterinarian, and I feel comfortable taking my pets to her. I feel we are going to the right place for routine, as well as non-routine vet visits.
