Services
MercyVet is a full service integrative veterinary hospital located in the Puget Sound region. The goal of any medical treatment is to restore health and bring a greater sense of well-being to 'diseased' individuals. Many times modern medicine fails to effectively treat, and cure, people and animals suffering from various ailments.
Inspired by the biblical parable, Dr. Sehn founded the MercyVet Good Samaritan Fund in order to offer a helping hand to clients in need of financial assistance. The fund is administered by Dr. Sehn on a case-by-case basis, and serves to supplement unforeseen veterinary expenses for emergency cases, strays and rescued animals from our existing clients.
Jacqueline Sehn, DVM, VetMFHom, was born and raised in Brazil, where she attended Veterinary School at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, having graduated in 1983. After working for a few years in a mixed animal practice, she traveled to Europe to further her studies in Homeopathy. She moved to NYC in 1987 and has lived and practiced veterinary medicine on Mercer Island, east of Seattle, since 1996.

I called to make a teeth cleaning for my dog. A very nice lady informed me that since my dog was not a patient, I would need to send them a photo of proof of my dogs most recent annual visit. I did so when I got off the phone. The next day, I called to make an appointment. Another individual answered the phone and told me that I could not make an appointment if I was not a current customer.
I told her that I talked to someone else the day before, and she had no problem with it. What is different? She slammed the phone on me. I'm not kidding. I called back, but she did not pick up. I called back, but she did not pick up. I called back and another individual picked up and identified herself as the veterinarian. I told her what had just happened.
She angrily said that she was short staffed and that she was overwhelmed. She got nasty and asked if "Do you know of a good receptionist?" I told her no, but the one she had was not helping her business. She repeated her being overwhelmed and said if I wanted to talk more, I should email her and hung up. Now I know where her receptionist got her training. Things happen for a reason, and in this reviewer's opinion, I am glad to have found out how overwhelmed this this business is, and I would never would never trust my dog in their care. NEVER!

In my opionion, be very careful about calling this office for care of your animal. I called to make an appointment for teeth cleaning and a very friendly person told me to send proof of my dogs last annual exam before an appt could be made. I did so. When I called back the next day, Amy answered and told me they are not taking new clients. I asked her why I was told differently.
She hung up on me. I called back and the doctor answered. I explained what just happened and she asked me, "do you know anybody that can be a receptionist because we are overwhelmed and short staffed." That was the doctor! I told her that I would not want to bring my pet for healthcare needs to a doctor who is so overwhelmed. I've never experienced anything like this. Yikes!

Called to book a teeth cleaning and Amy the receptionist couldn't be bothered. She sounded busy, and I'm sure she was, but does that give her the right to give attitude and hang up on me? I'm literally trying to give you business, what did I do to you? After getting Jackie on the phone to explain what happened she said she didn't care and her employees are critical to her. Well guess what, so are customers but evidently you have enough of them to tell me to pound sand rather than hold your employees accountable.

We love Mercy Vet. They are amazing with our Shepard mix. I wanted to update my review b/c our pup is now 15.5 years old. Thanks to Dr. Jackie and her team she is still truckin' along and very healthy. They take the time to go over everything we can do for our girl. We really truly appreciate Dr. Jackie and her team and feel so lucky to have found them years ago.

I brought our lil Maltese pup here a year ago after going from vet to vet; nobody could help figure out Bella's sensitivities and allergies. Dr. Lisa was kind, caring, patient and responsive to all our concerns and queries with Bella. She has helped us navigate Bella's care and has brought back a level of health into Bella's life - for that we are truly grateful.
The staff is always kind and smiling. The clinic practices holistic and western veterinarian medicine and this is great if your furry baby needs naturopathic tx. They do tend to be a bit on the expensive end, however the peace of mind that we get from the quality of care is well worth it. Thank you Dr. Lisa & team!

Unfortunately I can't rate the veterinary care provided here since I wasn't able to see the vet. I'm new to the area so I'm still learning the ropes of getting around in Seattle, admittedly I realized my drive was going to be 45 minutes when I only planned for 30 minutes. I called the office to check and see if that was going to be OK, the front desk person told me as long as I wouldn't be more than 15 mins late it was fine.
I went a head and made the 45 minute drive arriving at 3:45 on the button, as agreed to. Upon arrival I was told to wait in my car for our turn with the vet. We waited outside for a few minutes then the front desk girl came out to inform me that they could not see my dog since there wasn't enough time, I would need to reschedule. I reiterated that I had been told that it was fine as long as I arrived by 3:45, and that I would be driving and hour and half round trip. She apologized saying she knew her colleague had said we could still see the vet but it was a mistake and there was not time. Clearly I wont be going back.

Dr. Jackie Sehn and team are compassionate, wonderful, very knowledgable and thorough with integrated pet care that includes both traditional and holistic practices, with a whole lot of consideration for systemic causes, not just treating symptoms. I discovered Dr. Jackie when fostering a very ill young rescue foster dog. We tried Chinese herbal therapies, and even leaned into a genetic panel for answers to try to help her, and I appreciated that they considered many more angles than previous vets we consulted.
I now take my two dogs there and would not consider going anywhere else. They arranged a puppy socialization drop-off playdate during Covid, which has made our new puppy, Clover, LOVE going to the vet. And they are sweet and gentle with our timid, scared rescue, Lucas. This veterinarian practice is special and won't give up on even the toughest cases. Mercy Vet is the best office I've seen in the Seattle area!

Mercy Vet is such an amazing place. Their knowledge, experience, caring and compassion of all the staff is something unique and special. Dr. Jackie has a way of explaining complicated medical problems so that you truly understand what is going on with your pet. She takes full charge of the situation so you feel comfortable and relieved, and know your pet is in the very best hands. I cannot say enough great things about Mercy Vet!

Mercy vet has some of the most caring staff I've ever met. People who work with animals are truly the best humans. After my 17 year old Kitty passed, not only did they send me a card signed by every person at the clinic but I also got a card a few months later saying that there was a tree planted in his name donated by Mercy vet. I cried my eyes out and felt so supported and held by those simple but truly impactful acts of love and kindness. I continue to take my other kitty to Mercy vet and we have received great care there.

My pup and I are so very happy to have found Mercy Vet and Dr. Brienen! It's like we've won the lottery to connect with a holistic vet who uses homeopathy. Besides her years of experience and incredible knowledge, Dr. Brienen is just a lovely human being. She was so gentle and caring with her patient, and she graciously and thoroughly answered all of my questions-- with answers personalized for my dog, instead of being boilerplate or overly general (which is something I've experienced in the past). The staff is equally as welcoming and lovely. Thank you Dr. Brienen, Heidi and Amy!

Been coming to Mercy Vet for years and years. Always feel like my pets are treated with love and compassion. Have gotten homeopathic treatments (which worked!) As well as antibiotic treatments when necessary. For years I would have said they were under pricing their services. A while back they finally increased pricing and are probably more akin to other vet clinics, which they deserve to be because they know their stuff. I make the trek from West Seattle because I trust them so much to care for my fur babies.

I could not say enough great things about Mercy Vet. The staff genuinely cares about what is best for your animal and you. They are so conscious of the money we spend with them - instead of trying to get every dollar out of you and only implementing band aid solutions like some other vets do. I feel extremely comfortable and safe leaving my beloved dog's well being in the hands of the Mercy Vet staff. Even my dog likes visiting them!

I have had my share of bad experiences with vets but have been happy with my regular vet for the last three or four years. A few weeks though I decided to get a second opinion from Mercy Vet regarding some digestive issues with my older cat and they were able to squeeze me in this morning. I couldn't be happier with how the appointment went. Dr. Nobrega was cordial, professional and well informed and told me that I was on the right track with the dietary changes that I had made but also had some good suggestions about what else to do.
Many vets. like many human doctors seem to think in terms of treatment rather than prevention but Dr. Nobrega made a point of saying that 90% of digestive issues with animals are food-related and was well informed about the best food to feed your cats. It's hard for me to imagine anyone better than Mercy Vet.

Mercy vet was *great* when my cat was healthy. Wonderful teeth cleaning, often without anesthesia. Maybe they are more of a dog-centric vet--I wouldn't advise bringing your cat here long term. When kidney disease showed up on my cat's senior feline blood panel test results, I was told we caught it really early and to give her some extra potassium (later I found out from another vet that by the time kidney disease shows up on test results, the cat's kidneys are very compromised).
A few months later my former chow-hound cat lost interest in food and changed some behaviors. One of the vets at Mercy looked at her and in so many words asked me why I'd bothered to bring her in, that there was nothing really wrong with her aside from what they'd already found. Within months my cat crashed and I took her to Emerald City emergency vet, who told me she was stage 4 kidney disease. Kitty was there on an IV for 4 days and they wanted to keep her longer, but kitty wasn't eating and wanted to go home.
I was told by Emerald that she had a few weeks to a few months left. That was a year ago and thanks to daily home IV treatments, iron supplement, and Epakitin, my cat is still here. I understand that my cat looked surprisingly healthy and well-groomed for being so sick, but I would hope that a vet would be more well-versed in kidney disease, as it's so common in cats, and know enough to investigate further on a disease they knew the cat already had.
There is a lot more you can do for feline kidney disease than just potassium. My lesson: take your cat to a cats-only vet. I'm at Seattle Cat Clinic now and I love them. They are up on the latest for cats.

Yes, it's initially hard to get in as a new patient, as they are a small practice and Mercy Vet makes sure it takes time with the animal *and* the person. We have seen Dr. Nobrega off and on for acupuncture for our bullmastiff for a few years. She helped us come up with a plan to a few lbs off our boy since he had a bad knee and hip from the abuse he suffered before we rescued him. Also, she works within your budget, offering up easy solutions, such as adding a vegetable slurry to help with inflammation and joint pain.
I can get all these things at the grocery. I never have an issue with the phone not being answered; sometimes I do get sent to VM, but I always have a call back within a few hours. Mercy Vet covers everything from regular day to day vaccines to alternative therapies.

Given all the good reviews I was disappointed by Mercy Vet. Took 9 days to get an appointment - admittedly this was because we are a new customer and this shows how popular they are. Also Dr Jackie was very attentive and carrying and I appreciated that. My dog has been scratching excessively and they prescribed Benadryl and/or homeopathic medicine.
I was reluctant to sedate my dog with Benadryl as a solution. I believe there is no evidence that homeopathic medicine works in human or other animals, and as a case study it did not work with my dog. After a week they offered alternative homeopathic medicine. Cost $170.

Jackie Obando is the best veterinarian on the face of the planet. I love her personally and professionally, and I know she cares about my dogs. We have used her since our beagle was five weeks old, and now he's nearly 15! Did you know that Jackie is a doggie chiropractor, and that her office uses acupuncture, too? She does not rely solely on allopathic medicines, but does not hesitate to prescribe them if they are needed. You will not find a better vet or a more caring or brighter person to love your animals along with you.

"We" started seeing Dr. Obando about 2 years ago from a referral of a friend who recognized we were running out of options due to my dog's chronic GI issues the previous 3 years. Pup was up at night and urgent whining at the door around the clock. Three previous vets suggested indefinite prescription medication and invasive scopes to deal, not treat, the issue of chronic diarrhea. Dr. Obando confidently said that we know what is wrong--we know he isn't digesting his food properly and we will fix it.
She laid out a smart, conservative diet plan and said that if it didn't work, she had a plan B, C and even D. Plan A worked by making his food and getting him off grains and chicken. No meds, no urgent rushes to the door and healthy! Easiest check I ever wrote.

I don't trust my dogs with just anyone. Dr. Obando and her staff are probably the best in the country. I appreciate that a holistic approach is always first and then western style only if the other does not work. I am always impressed when I go in. The clinic is always clean, staff friendly and attentive and they obviously love all animals! I also like that Dr. Obando always brings herself level with my dog; and if that means sitting on the floor, she just does. - She always makes dogs feel good/comfortable -even when it is exam time.
My dog actually looks forward to his visit to Mercy Vet --practically runs inside! - A far cry from other vets where we have had to pull and prod to get the dog in the door. I will never go anywhere else! Because Dr. Obando has such an amazing reputation you might have to wait-list to get in. However, once you are a client, you are seen always asap.

I had a conference call with one of the doctors here for two reasons. One, I was looking for a vet. Two, I needed someone to review medical records of am older cat I was looking to adopt that had a chronic illness. Ease of set up for conference call. A pleasant conversation as well as honesty about present and future medical complications coming down the pike.
This was exactly what I wanted and I was clear on asking the vet to be honest with me. 4 stars for the convenience of setting up the call and for an honest and helpful demeanor plus the kudos for being a conventional and homeopathic vet. Good nutrition for healthy pets - how great is this after that China pet food scare? However, potential clients need to be aware that there is a waiting list and that Mercy Vet is not cheap.$45 per 15 minutes of time can add up quickly to $90. Although in my case, it was very worthwhile.
