Latest review from Feb/March 2022: we continue to have an outstanding experience with Dr. Joiner and team at this practice! The front desk is very responsive and the vets and vet techs are wonderful. Our dog is happy whenever we get seen here as she trusts the staff, and I know we will get up to date recommendations and compassionate care. We are very pleased with the care that our puppy receives at Park Animal Hospital.
We see Dr. Joiner, who is outstanding in her up-to-date training, surgical skills, and warm demeanor. She did our pup's spay surgery and did a great job and trained us well with incision care, answering all our follow-up questions. Dr. Arrick also has evaluated our pet for urgent care, and he was very helpful and informative. The experienced team of staff, including Rowena, Susan, and Linda, keep us informed about next steps and availability of appointments, and answer any questions about our billing statements thoroughly.
I am also impressed with the warm care that vet techs Kirk and Tiana provide. I have learned a lot from them about daily care for our pup and I feel confident about handing her off curbside to them. Overall, for the latest in animal care, a well-organized practice, and excellent safety precautions during the pandemic (when we got our pup), I strongly recommend this practice.

Just had an appointment at Park Animal Hospital. First visit there for our senior dog. Everything about it was smooth. Setting up appointment was easy and they allow you to stay with your pet, no more 'curbside appointment'. The facility was clean. We didn't have to wait. It was a 'relief' vet but she was very thorough, took her time and addressed all of our concerns.
They did a little upselling for food but it was easy to say no thanks. Had some lab work done (our pooch has had some small issues recently so it made sense) they are pricey! I think this is the norm now, it was more expensive than in the past (at other offices) but again, based on yelp reviews of other vets I think the prices are comparable to most places. Will gladly go again if/when it's necessary.

My dogs have gone to PAH since I moved to SF 16 years ago. Dr. Arrick is my kind of medical professional.short, quick and to the point with an amazing knowledge in breed variations and common problems as well as the desire to seek solutions while monitoring expenses. I'd recommend Park to anyone. Even when the pandemic hit, my finances got tight and my Spaniel was diagnosed with diabetes, they did their best to extend the treatment he needed while respecting my situation.
A lady I was living with fed my dog all kinds of crap, killing his little pancreas and causing his diabetic condition, so when I moved out he fell ill and needed urgent care. His hair fell out, he went blind, he was underweight and not eating. With the support of Dr. Arrick and the staff, I brought him around and he's doing really well today! Ketona Naturals pet food with.5% carbs, Novolin N for $25/bottle from Wal-mart and no script needed, subcutaneous fluids for his bad days and always the follow up calls from PAH.
I added my Pitt into the plan this week. Her previous owner had her at Vetco and Vetco is great for vaccinations and really budget conscious, but for full spectrum treatment PAH was what she needed. I am confident in the care my animals received from PAH and send kudos out to their staff for weathering the worst (hopefully) of the pandemic while still giving personalized care to my dogs. As they age I realize the expenses for their treatment will be higher, but I planned for this and feel like we're all in good hands.

We have been taking our dog to Park Animal Hospital for a little over a year. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and take great care of our dog. When he had a bad reaction to a vaccine on Christmas Eve, they kept him for several extra hours to make sure he would be ok and came up with a plan to make sure that his subsequent vaccinations would go smoothly. I appreciate the staff for going the extra mile to make sure our dog would get vaccinations he needed, while minimizing the risk of an allergic reaction.

I've always had an amazing experience at Park Animal hospital. Their staff is extremely experienced and truly care about you and your pets. Their technician Tiana has always been extremely attentive, up front, and honest. I was surprised by this because most technicians don't interact or understand what is going on, this was not my experience at Park Animal. Everyone I've met so far is fully capable, provides useful information, and answers my questions directly. I wouldn't trust my fur children with anyone else.

IT was Emma's time to visit the vet.and Park Animal Hosptial delivered (as usual) a fantastic, safe, thorough visit. Dr. Arrick is the greatest with Emma.he really knows his stuff and gently examined Emma providing excellent advice on how we can even better care for her. Emma thinks of Rob as family! Everyone in the office is great. so thankful to have them in our dog's life.

We went to have our cat's teeth cleaned. They did a thorough job and discovered that there was a hidden issue that would not have been found without an x-ray and research. They performed the surgery and was able to resolve the issue. Our cat for sure is feeling better. We appreciate the care that the team took of our cat and in being zealous in uncovering other potential issues that would've brought continuous pain or would've brought us back in to the vet. Thank you!

I have gone to a few other pet hospitals over the years and Park Animal Hospital is the BEST! I took Sophie in for her dental cleaning.she has TERRIBLE teeth. Tiana and Dr. Arrick were so kind and professional. During the treatment they called to consult with me about the extractions that needed to be done and afterwards they sent photos of Sophie resting to show me that she was doing fine.
That evening Linda called me to see how Sophie was doing. I completely trust in the medical care that Sophie gets at Park Animal Hospital. But, importantly, I appreciate the kindness and consideration of the whole team.

I've been with Park Animal Hospital for about 18 months. They were wonderful with my older cat and we're so compassionate with me at the end of her life. Now they continue to take great proactive care of my rescue pup, figuring out good care plans and responding as needed for emergent issues. Kind, professional staff all around!

We have been taking our cats to Park Animal Hospital for many years and have always been happy with the caring and professional care they provide. Recently we adopted a kitten (he's our 3rd generation of Park Animal cats!) who turned out to be sick. Even though PAH is super busy, like all vets are during COVID, they were able to squeeze our little guy in to see Dr. Joiner.
After a thorough examination, she determined that he should receive hospital care, which didn't surprise me but I must say my heart sank. I knew that the options aren't great for vet hospitals now - the good ones are very busy, and it can be difficult to get in. Susan contacted Lenity in San Mateo and explained what was going on with my guy, and they agreed to see him. He's thankfully much better now, and once again I'm thankful that the wonderful folks at PAH are there for our pets.

Today I stood on the sidewalk outside the vet clinic while an employee berated me about how I need to handle my puppy's biting before it gets out of control. I get that no one wants to be gnawed on while working, but she's a 9 week old puppy leaving the house for the first time and doesn't know any better yet. She was obviously scared and alone thanks to your insanely strict office visit restrictions.
I came to the vet for vaccines, not dire warnings about unchecked puppy behavior. Besides that upsetting experience, the vets and front desk staff are good and have been helping with my other dog and cat for years.

My dog has been going to Park Animal Hospital for a few years but sadly, I think it's time to find a new vet. For his most recent annual exam, they told me I had cancelled my appointment, which I hadn't. Luckily they were still able to "fit me in". A few weeks later, I called because he was having some problems and was told simply there was no appointments for him, I wasn't given any options the following week, she acted confused why I would even be calling in the first place.
After I took him to the emergency vet, he still wasn't improving, so I called them back a few weeks later to try to get him another appointment, this time I never even got called back and I haven't heard from them since.

Dr. Joiner and the staff at Park Animal Hospital were amazing when we brought in our 18 year old cat. She diagnosed her with something quite simple in 10 min that had been missed by another facility during a 2 day hospitalization. Ultimately it was time to put our cat down, but the care we received in the week prior to making that decision was top notch, and we were able to feel truly comfortable that it was the right time.

This is the worse place you can take your pet in. Receptions are the meanest, heartless people I have ever seen in my life! My dog is sick, I called to schedule an appointment. They just told me that I have to wait for week or two. My dog was getting worse and I called them again. Person who picked up the phone, her mane was Linda and I tried to explain that my dog is feeling worse.
Guess what? Her answer was after I expressed my concern and frustration and how much I need doctor to at least call me! She said: We can't accommodate every patient. really? I just felt that I have to just hang up. People like that should not be working with people or animals. She was talking in such a load voice that I felt that I did not help her. What kind of customer care is that! Please people STAY AWAY!

WORST.VET.EVER. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. Waited 30 minutes in the rain after having called and confirmed earlier in the week, only to be told that they weren't able to treat today and that I could wait for a standby since they were fully booked for the day. Seriously so unprofessional and inconsiderate. Especially given the pandemic, it's hard to get to, you have to wait outside and call. 1/10 don't recommend.

The folks at PAH have been taking wonderful care of my cats through the decades, and that hasn't changed during the pandemic. Their curbside dropoff/pick up is easy, and there is good communication with the staff and the amazingly kind and caring Dr. Holliday. Rowena is always there to help and I'd really like to thank her for always getting back to me promptly and for squeezing Mimi in when there was a cancellation and Mimi took a turn for the worse. I was unaware that vets are booked up a couple of weeks in advance during the pandemic, so I'm really grateful for their caring and flexible service!

I requested authorization for refills of my prescription for flea protection so I can order online. Park Animal Hospital said they can't help since they haven't seen my dog since 2016. There was and is no reason to see my dog - she isn't sick. She doesn't need an expensive, unwarranted checkup. Her vaccinations are done at low cost clinics sponsored by San Francisco Animal Care and Control.
During the pandemic, California guidelines say "You can go to the vet or pet hospital if your pet is sick". My dog is not sick. They refused to help me. So ends my patronage of Park Animal Hospital after many, many years and many family dogs.

I was recommended Park Animal from a friend. I loved Dr. Portela, who sadly just left the practice as of 6.20.20 which was really sad. I was also completely shocked by the cost for a routine spay for my 6 month old pup - $1500! I asked why it cost so much compared to other vets that were charging $350-$500 around the Bay Area. The response was that these are SF prices. I've referred lots of friends here, but I'm afraid the prices will be a major determining factor.
I wanted to share this with the community (and cost breakdown in photos) because if I would've known the cost upfront for the spay, I probably would have found a vet outside of the city and identified an emergency vet close to me for emergencies. I left 4 stars because they've looked after my pup.

I've been taking my cats here for over 6 years. I've seen a few of the doctors (based on when I schedule my appointments), but I love going to see Dr. Holiday. She's always very friendly, and you can tell she really cares about my fur babies as if they were her own. My new kitten came to me from foster care with a variety of problems - all curable. Dr.
Holiday continually walks me through how to care for the kitty, while making sure the other cats in the house remain healthy. Unfortunately recently, one of my cats became very sick, ultimately we had to send her to heaven. All of the staff were friendly and understanding during a very difficult situation. Dr. Holiday and the front desk called me daily to check in on how my cat (and I) was doing - sometimes calling a few times to make sure they actually spoke to me and not my voice mail. Words cannot express how thankful I am for their continued support and care.

Park Animal Hospital has been treating my cats (all 6 of them now) over the past 28 years. Dr. Arrick is fantastic. I have always had incredible caring and professional service from him, from the other vets, and from the rest of the staff, including the receptionists. I can't say enough good things about Park Animal Hospital. Sandra N

DR. PORTELA is a first-rate veterinarian! My 1-year old cat recently stopped eating, so I brought her as a new patient to Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Portela provided excellent care right from the start. She patiently listened as I gave background information, explained what tests she wanted to run and why, and showed compassion and care towards me and my cat.
My cat was critically anemic and Dr. Portela saved her life by referring me to specialists for a feline blood transfusion. I've had to return to Park several times for additional check-ups, tests, and medications, and have received the same great level of care from Dr. Portela each time. She is gentle and sweet with my cat, provides excellent expert care, and empathetically explains things to me so I understand what's going on. I highly recommend Dr. Portela, she will absolutely be my go-to veterinarian for life!

This place is magical. I have been coming to Park Animal Hospital for over 17 years and have consistently received nothing but incredible, professional, and caring service from Dr. Rob Arrick and the rest of the staff, including the warm reception at the front desk! Dr. Arrick is a pro. I can honestly say he saved my dog's life a number of times -- from being hit by a cab, to a spleen eruption years later -- our dog truly had 9 lives and lived to be 18, and we really owe it to this amazing vet office.
We now have a puppy that we bring here, and I have the utmost level of trust and respect for Dr. Arrick and the level of care he brings when it comes to my pet's health. 5 stars actually doesn't seem like enough.

Park Animal Hospital and Dr. Holiday have been treating my beloved older cat since I moved to SF a few years ago. The service has been nothing but stellar in terms of patient care, technology, access to in-house treatments. They also do a very good job keeping me calm! I highly recommend PAH and will be a customer as long as I live here.
