Services
Woodward Veterinary Home Care PC is proud to serve the communities surrounding the western Woodward Ave corridor. We provide care as far away as Warren, Sterling Hts, Farmington Hills and Troy. Our mobile Veterinary service is run by Dr. Andrea Smirnes, who is a licensed, experienced Royal Oak veterinarian.
Dr. Andrea Smirnes, owner of Woodward Veterinary Home Care, graduated with honors from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. She has been providing veterinary care in the metro Detroit area since that time. Dr. Smirnes has a wide range of experience in the veterinary field.
Some pets don't like to travel, and some pet owners have challenges themselves that make it difficult to travel. At Woodward Veterinary Home Care in Royal Oak, MI, our goal is to bring vet care to pets in their own homes so they can still get the care they need without the trip to a pet clinic. We offer house calls during our business hours.
Here you'll find everything you need about Woodward Veterinary Home Care PC and how we can help you. We have online forms for everything related to our Royal Oak veterinarian clinic, and information, including a virtual office tour and what to expect in your visit. The grieving process includes accepting the reality of your loss, accepting that the loss and accompanying feelings are painful, and adjusting to your new life that no longer includes your pet.How do I tell my family? Family members usually are already aware of a pet's problems.

Dr Smirnes and Alicia are such a great team! They really focus on low stress techniques and are happy to work any special preferences or protocols. It makes it so easy to advocate for your pets. They take their time with procedures and building trust and give thorough explanations of what's going on. I never feel rushed or like I'm a burden for asking questions. WVHC is professional and passionate and I feel so grateful to have a vet I can really trust

My daughter had Dr. Smirnes out to her house in order to do a check-up, and give her kitten a vaccination. She was very friendly, and made the process smooth and painless. The kitten always has, ahem, accidents when going on car rides, so this was a true life saver. He didn't flinch when he got his vaccine, and was very amenable given that he was in his own environment.

If more stars were possible, I would award them. Dr. Smirnes made an evening housecall in this dark, bitter cold, icy weather to tend my sweet cat, Rosie. What a kindness to make good care possible for the beloved pet of someone who is currently housebound. A full exam, some testing, injections, and a trimming of claws all done with professional but totally loving concern.
Her own pet could not have been handled better. She did not rush, answered questions patiently (small pun intended) and made sure both Rosie and I were reassured and comfortable plus she promised to check back with us! I'd have paid a lot for this option but since I am retired and living on Social Security, my relief at the affordable fee was considerable. Thank you. Thank you.

After I heard about in-home euthanasia I searched for a mobile vet for our 13 y o dog. Our dog- like most animals- did not enjoy the vet, and having her final moments be stressed out seemed wrong to us. Dr. Smirnes guided us through the process, took her time with us while we sobbed and said our goodbyes, and allowed our sweet girl the peace of being in her own environment. Worth every penny. I would recommend her to anyone.

We just became acquainted with Dr. Smirnes and Woodward Veterinary Home Care this year. Her first visit was in January to diagnose a torn ACL on our senior dog. He wasn't using his one rear leg and obviously having difficulty getting around. He doesn't like to be carried and really freaks out going to the vet's office. I was freaking out how to get him in the car and to the vets.
A former neighbor recommended Dr. Smirnes. She returned our call promptly and came to our home in a reasonable timeframe. She also was able to fill two prescriptions for him while there, give him a vaccination and give our senior cat a wellness visit. I thought her pricing was very reasonable. Our second visit was this fall when our dog started coughing.
She was fairly certain he had cancer. We saw no point in having tests done where he would have to be somewhat sedated at an office. When his condition worsened we again called on Dr. Smirnes to help all of us make his transition across the Rainbow Bridge.

It was such a relief to find a great home vet for my very shy cats, as I am new to the area and my cats have previous medical issues. Dr. Smirnes responded quickly to my appointment request and questions about what to expect during the visit. The visit was comfortable and thorough and she was great with my cats even though they were not very enthusiastic about the whole thing.
She has a mobile pharmacy so I was able to get my pets medication during the visit, and payment was very convenient and quite reasonable considering it's a house call. She has connections with a traditional vet office so you can be referred there for surgery, X-rays, etc. as well as prescription foods. I highly recommend Dr. Smirnes!

The kindest of veterinarians. My cat Orey loved her and responded to her like she did with no other person in this world, save my husband and myself. Dr. Smirnes is a home vet, which means that for a small additional fee she travels to your home to give your pet the care it needs, and has an arrangement with Berkley Animal Clinic for the few services she can't provide in home.
This was invaluable to us over this last year, while we were trying to diagnose a difficult health issue in an animal that absolutely FREAKS in the car. Her rates are reasonable, she is available to answer questions via email, and she goes the extra mile for both the pet and the owner. I don't know how we could have gotten through the last year without her. Sadly, ten days ago we had to let Orey go, but Dr. Smirnes gave us as much help and love and support while making that difficult decision as we could have ever hoped for, or asked for.
And of course, Dr. Smirnes came to our house for that last time, and Orey was calm and peaceful. If a death can be a good death, then Dr. Smirnes gave Orey a good one, and I can never thank her enough for that.
