Services
In 1999, Dr. Sams started his own surgery practice in the California Bay Area. During those first years, he practiced out of notable veterinary facilities in both San Francisco and Marin counties. In 2004, the doors were opened to Sams Clinic, a completely remodeled space to fulfill Dr. Sams vision.
At The Sams Clinic, we share a single goal: to achieve the best possible results for every patient. We're a team of specialists who share our expertise and observations, collaborating with one another so that your pet receives the benefit of our combined perspectives. It's an approach we feel leads to more accurate diagnoses, minimally invasive treatments and positive outcomes.
As a specialty referral clinic we work closely with your regular veterinarian. Please ask your doctor for a referral or let them know if you plan to schedule an appointment with us directly. It's helpful to have as much information as possible from your regular veterinarian regarding your pet's current medical condition, including diagnostic information such as x-rays or labwork. Please let your veterinarian know about your pet's appointment with us, and we'll keep them updated on your pet's condition.
Has your pet had any new X-rays or treatments at another hospital since their last visit to The Sams Clinic? Has your veterinarian diagnosed your pet with any new medical problems or health conditions since your last visit to The Sams Clinic? Does your pet have any new health or orthopedic problems since your last visit to The Sams Clinic?

This is the second dog we've owned that has had surgery at Sam's Clinic, we cannot say enough praise of our Dr and his team. The time and care that he puts into the well being of our most loved family member being our great Pyrenees Ash, has been nothing short of amazing! He makes sure that everything is right with your dog before any surgery takes place, they are very cautious caring and patient, and always takes whatever time is needed to explain to you everything they are doing and what to expect. We really never have to worry when we bring our sweet ash or any dog to Sam's Clinic they truly are the best.

Unfortunately, I do not know the receptionist I spoke with today. However, the customer service sucks and the receptionist was very rude and had no patience. I personally work in the Veterinary industry so I do understand that this line of work is very high stressed and frustrating but this woman's tone of voice and attitude was upsetting.

Dr. Sams was the only doctor who could figure out what was wrong with our dog. She couldn't move without screaming in pain and he was able to pinpoint the issue and tell us on what part of her body to have an ultrasound. He was correct; it was a degenerated disc. After surgery in Rohnert Park with Dr. Lavely (an excellent surgeon) our dog was as good as new. This was 13 years ago and we'll never forget either of them. Thank you Dr. Sams.

I have never been so deeply disappointed, gravely concerned of the malpractice occurring and must report this to anyone considering contacting this business. They are fraudulent in their practice by promoting unnecessary surgery and neglectful of having a conversation prior to eliciting your dog in for an $8500.00 TPLO unnecessary procedure, when my dogs CCL injury had healed after 8 weeks. DO NOT CONTACT THIS BUSINESS for your animals sake. See other negative reviews, I rest my case! They have only recommended reviews showing, very sinister. See more reviews, sort, lowest, negative.

My paralyzed dog and I were treated in a cruel manner. I will not use their sevices even though I am staying half a mile away. Vicious and unreasonable assistance not that it was assistance it was a rejection out of hand. Although, I was able to get help today elsewhere by traveling an hour and a half away at another provider. yeah for my suffering dog, if I had simply accepted their callous rejection my dog would have continued to suffer and may have ultimately had irreversible damage. all I was left with was an appointment 20 days out for a paralyzed dog. SHAME. get out of mill valley.
Who needs this kind of service. I talked to someone else who had the same experience. Dr. Sam was applauded, but the clinic treated her badly. All I can say is that I am lucky because my dog was so well treated elsewhere that I am grateful they rejected my dog given.

If your dog comes up lame or shows signs of skeletal problems I would encourage you to see the orthopedic veterinarians at Sams. Their expertise, patience and guidance helps you to assess why your furry friend is having issues, what is needed to to deal with the issue and how much it will cost to make your dog well again. We're not all the way through the process of getting Majesty (my pit bull) well again but I'm confident we made the right choice in choosing the Sams Clinic Yep I was right these folks are though (post op appointment to review surgery and follow up care), genuinely caring and technically knowledgeable.they know their stuff and it shows in outcome (great!)

I dont write bad reviews. But I have to share my experience of this clinic. They were mean, dismissive and cruel to me and my dog in a situation where I was reasonable. They were unreasonable and heartless in rejecting accommodating an appointment within a week for a paralyzed dog after I had been stranded New Years eve and waited for them to open 1/2/20.
The vicious brutality in the deadpan "sorry we cant help you because that would be unfair under the circumstances." The circumstances were sever and need given a paralyzed dog just floors me and broke my heart. The treatment I got was outrageous in the heartlessness of the manager. I will not go to this clinic and frankly I think I am better off. The failure and delay that the clinic imposed would likely have required surgery.
Instead I was able to find a chiropractor an hour and a half away who rocked my girls world. I see the company know how to promote, but my friend had a similar experience. Dr. Sam is nice, but his office policies are horrible. DO NOT WAIT and frankly the wait may cost you your pets life as would have been my case since I was trying to avoid surgery.
I will never forget the heartless manner of that manager who the owner has made in charge of making the decision that really requires medical consideration. WE DON'T take emergencies. Well I can say that I was there with a case that wasn't an emergency but needed attention, compassion and consideration. I HAD A PARALYZED GERMAN SHEPHERD.
I have a very bad taste in my mouth. In addition, NO MARIN VET GAVE ME THEIR NAME AS A REFERAL- none. not a ONE. Text me if you want the info re chiropractor that changed my dogs life.

We had our dog's surgery done here about 3 years ago. Our dog Sherman is still doing great. Awesome staff, amazing Doctor. Sherman had torn both of his ACL's. After the surgery he was bandaged up but walked out that day. We drove to Mill Valley from Fresno, CA and it was worth every minute of the drive.

I have got to be the happiest client of the sams clinic. We have been coming here for close to a year on a weekly basis. We have received acupuncture, and currently do hydro therapy and physical therapy massage. I have a 13 year old French bulldog who is still mobile and happy. They taught me the exercises and stretches to do at home and the right supplements to be giving him.
They are in direct contact with his neurologist and primary doc so everyone is on the same page. The front desk knows us BOTH on first name basis and even gave my Stuart personalized birthday treats in July for his 13th Birthday! We feel the love they have given us and have blessed us with such great bonding time and quality care. They have helped my sweet angel get to live out the rest of his days on all fours for as long as he wills it.
We both enjoy coming here and have made great gains and maintained a quality of life many doctors told me wasn't possible. We are so grateful to all of the staff at the Sams clinic. I know my stuart won't live forever but I know our lives are this much better and hold no regrets having the experiences we do coming here weekly.

Full disclosure I know Dr Sams' parents and brother. That being said when I was getting my little fur baby I was told your really need to meet Dr Sams. I laughed and said 'thanks but no thanks! I'm sure he is as awesome as the rest of the family but I'd rather not!' (Hope that makes sense) Well Senta is a 12 week old Weimaraner that had a reaction to something which brought on HOD.
The last 96 hours was filled with an ER visit and over night stay, her vet for observation and a 5pm dash to UC Davis. One The team at UC Davis made their diagnoses and said I needed an orthopedic Dr I knew there was only one place that I needed to go. So I finally met Dr Sams! What can I really say that has not been said on every review?! The entire staff is amazing.
They are not only professional but really caring not only for the patient but their human too. Honestly, no matter how many patients (and humans) they are caring for you're made to feel as if you are their first priority. For Dr Sams he is absolutely amazing and from my perspective opts for the most minimal approach for healing. Telling my Breeder what happened to Senta and Dr Sams approach the were very, very impressed and actually stated 'I sure wished we had him in SoCal!' Senta's breeder has had the same bloodline for 35 years and her parents before.
She knows her dogs and kept staying I like this Doctor and his approach. If you need to visit an orthopedic doctor there is absolutely no other place to go. From Team Senta a heart felt thank you very much!

My dogs are all working/sport dogs and when my 6-year-old tore her ACL, I needed to take her to the best so that post surgery there could be some hope of her getting back to work. We just had our two week check today post surgery and every aspect of our experience has been so amazing that I just had to write a review! The staff are incredibly nice, professional, and just love dogs.
The doctors are clear, patient and want you to understand everything that's happening. We start hydrotherapy next week and I'm confident we'll have just as good experiences in the rehab center as well.

Update! It's less than a year post-op for Rex now (he had his bi-lateral osteotomy done August 2015). Here's what's different since my original review: - Rex no longer limps AT ALL! Not even when he's been playing for a very long time. He's like a total wonder-dog, and his stamina has improved substantially. He just can't get enough! - All the worrying, stress and extra care that we expended tending to our healing pup really feel like a distant memory.
I can't believe it's been less than a year. It feels like he healed so quickly when in fact, he was pretty much out of commission for a good 4 months or so. - He really doesn't like taking supplements, so he hasn't been good about taking fish oil and glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, which we know are so, so important for him. It's tough getting him to eat anything, especially anything that smells 'healthy'. However, the treats from Old Mother Hubbard's have been working like a charm and he absolutely goes bonkers for them. Thanks again to all the fine folks at the Sam's Clinic. Rex is the joy of our hearts and is in tip-top shape, thanks to all of you!

Okay so our puppy broke his femur in this crazy spiral compound fracture after landing wrong going for a ball. His thigh ballooned up with blood and he went into shock. When we moved him to get him into the ER, he screamed like an alien from Alien, and it was heartbreaking. This is six or seven years ago. There just aren't a lot of surgeons that can fix something like that.
The ER doc wasn't optimistic, but he referred us to Dr. Sam. All I can say is wow. So, our pup recovered and runs around now like nothing happened (though he doesn't jump much any more, which is for the best, really). At the time, we were ecstatic, but we didn't really realize how lucky we were until much later. Our dog later had to get both his ACLs repaired (I'm told it's genetic).
By then, we were no longer within range of The Sams Clinic, or we would've gotten the surgeries done there. Both of the surgeons that did the ACL repairs had not only heard of Dr. Sams and had immense regard for him, but wanted to see X-rays of the work he did. One doc took X-rays of my dog's thigh (the opposite one from the one he was going to do surgery on) just to look at the work! Flat out amazing. Sams is the best.

There is not much I can say that hasn't already been said. The Sams Clinic is top notch - 5 star all the way - in customer service, patient care and facilities. The highlights to me are: *thorough explanation of procedures, possible complications, outcomes *timely follow-up, before, during and post-op *rehab consultation post-op *honest/up-front estimations of costs Each staff member has been kind & caring with me throughout the process and has been gentle, patient and concerned for Techno, my dog as well. I only wish that Dr. Sams could be our regular vet! Thanks to Hanna & Katie, Cesar and all of the staff at the Sams Clinic.
