Dr. Deirdre Brandes founded Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital in 2005. We are located at the Vons Shopping Center off Lomas Santa Fe between the We-R-Fabrics and 24 Hour Fitness. Also, while we are sad to see Dr. Sophie Steele leave and work with her husband, we wish them the very best. We are a five doctor general veterinary practice. Dr. Deirdre Brandes, Dr. Anaika Dayton, Dr. Sophie Steele, Dr. Meghan McIntosh, and Dr. Tara Haley primarily treat dogs and cats. We are a full-service veterinary hospital.

From an early age, Dr. Deirdre Brandes knew she wanted to become a veterinarian. Growing up, she volunteered at a number of veterinary hospitals and animal shelters in San Diego. After she graduated from Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine she chose to return to her hometown of San Diego and begin practicing.
Dr. Deirdre Brandes is a native of San Diego. She received her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Nutrition at the University of California at Davis and went on to earn her degree in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1999. After veterinary school, Dr. Brandes returned to San Diego and worked in various practices before founding Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital in 2005, with her husband, Dave Oei. Her focus is on providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for all pets. She especially enjoys surgery, dentistry, and dermatology.
Your pet's health history is very important for many reasons. We evaluate previous records to establish your pet's vaccine protocol. We also look for past illnesses, allergies and vaccine reactions. If you don't have your pet's records, we are happy to call your previous veterinary hospital to attain them.
Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital is a full service small animal veterinary hospital that offers a full array of treatments, medical and surgical procedures, preventive care packages, and specialized pet-care products for cats and dogs. I have brought my dog to RSF Vet Clinic since he was 12 weeks old and he is now 8. My dog, and family for that matter including my two young children, have been treated professionally, respectfully, fairly, and quite honestly, like family. Our dog has received and continues to receive excellent care, from basic office visits to two significant surgical procedures.
I have referred many friends to this clinic and never heard anything other than positive feedback. If looking for wonderful Veterinarians, and we have interacted with all of them at this office, this is a no brainer choice.

Really we are very fussy with our vets and you will not find a better place then Rancho Santa Fe Animal Clinic! Every one of the Vets there is wonderful not to mention all the technicians front desk help never had a problem there with anybody and oddly enough I always have a problem with front desk people at other Veterinary facilities don't know why I'm sure it's me. For some reason there's one particular vet here that my dog has a crush on so what are you going to do? They really do care!

I recently had to say goodbye to my 20-year-old feline. I called Rancho Santa Fe to arrange for euthanasia and asked them to make a house call instead of me bringing her to their hospital (I knew they offer this service within a certain radius of their practice for an additional fee). They found an appointment that same day for which I was so so thankful. Dr. Brandes and vet tech (sorry I can't remember her name but she was lovely too) came out to my house and respectfully, compassionately put my little girl to sleep.
The entire experience for my girl was calm and peaceful, which was so important to me. As you can imagine, tough decision and tough to watch but they handled both her and us (her human family) with the utmost care. I will forever be appreciative at the kindness they showed. Dr. Brandes didn't hesitate to put her arms out to hug me when I initially met her.
She instantly made me feel at ease. She answered all questions and walked us through each step. During a critical period, they went to another room to give us space to say our final goodbye. A few days letter, I received a personal handwritten card from Dr. Brandes in the mail conveying her sympathy. She referred to my baby by name in the card. Very thoughtful. Nothing but good things to say about the professionalism, service, and care they provided. Top-notch.

Since moving back to San Diego we tried a couple different vets for our 3 year old Border Collie. When we finally went to Rancho Santa Fe Vet it just felt right. Everyone was so friendly and help for and our pup loved everyone there which is the most important part. We've also been taking our new mini-aussie pup their and purchased their puppy package.
It is useful and they've helped us figure out the right meds for flea, ticks and heartworms. The other vets we visited weren't bad but we just didn't feel as thrilled as we did when we went to Rancho Santa Fe Vet. We've been so happy with them and can't recommend them enough!

Awesome staff! First visit to vet was super easy and chill for my puppy. Vet sat on a chair beside me and expertly checked out my dog in a calm and friendly manner. My pup was very relaxed the whole time, and considering she came from a rescue situation I was a bit worried how she would react to being checked out. Lots of little treats are given to help ease pets while being checked/given shots. Animals are very much a priority here and they definitely care about each pet. HIGHLY recommended coming here.
