For more than two decades, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital was a one-doctor practice situated in an 800 sq. ft. building at 37 Newman Springs Road in Shrewsbury, NJ. In 1986, it was purchased by Thomas S. Trotter, VMD and Anthony J. DeCarlo, VMD. With a dedication to 24hr emergency service, quality medicine, and client service, the hospital achieved tremendous growth as a general medicine and specialty practice.

I knew my Cali was in the best hands! Fabulous dentistry department. Dr. Haggerty was exceptional. Cali's remaining teeth are so white! She was well cared for and every detail was attended to from parking lot assistance to superb communication with the doctor to expertly prepared meds from the pharmacy. Overall, very impressed. Nothing but the best for my Cali-girl!

When my pomeranian of 18 years was going thru a difficult time, someone had recommend I check out RBVH. I enjoyed the way you cared for my pet. Surgery went well and I was able to get to more years with her after that. Eventually when she was on her last breathe she had passed in my arms on the way to the hospital. It was the toughest time for me but when I got there all the vets and staff had offered condolences and did their best to comfort me.
I had my moments with her before I left her there in the hands of the vet. I chose to cremate my dog and I have kept her ashes. The card and the delicate care I recieved even during that time made it easy to cope with. 2 years later I was able to open up my heart again to a new member of the family, a French bully. This is my second pet that I bring to your hospital for all the regular check ups and procedures and I love the feeling that I get knowing my pets are in good hands. Just the attitude and attention to detail gets me every time. I love this place and I highly recommend for all your pet's needs. Plus the atmosphere is like no other!

On more than one occasion for different pets, they have saved the day for life's unexpected illness. The facility is clean, staff respectful and reassuring, organized, and more importantly compassionate. Both times I've utilized their services. My pets received amazing care. I trust all of my babies in their capable care. Every question I had was answered and not ridiculed. I felt like the staff were caring for their own pet when I handed my babies to them. Thank you for everything!

My rabbits go here for emergency visits. For example, Nate, my almost 2 yr old mini Lop was having GI stasis symptoms in Dec 2021. Dr. McCleery was able to diagnose him correctly with liver lobe torsion and helped us get the surgery he desperately needed. She saved my baby's life! She also did a very thorough wellness exam for both of my rabbits. Usually with other rabbit vets, they just say "your rabbit is healthy" after spending a quick time with them.
But with her, she actually checked a lot of things and you could see it in the discharge notes. I'm very happy and thankful about their services. Choosing them for emergency visits for your rabbits is worth the money.

Rex came down with pneumonia very suddenly and we are so thankful we went to RBVH. They gave us our options and ultimately we decided to keep Rex in the ICU for a couple days. I called for updates way more than I should've but everyone was so patient and caring and knew exactly how he was doing. I think potentially we may have lost him or he might have had to spend his life on oxygen had we not gone to RBVH. Can't recommend them enough. (Also for routine visits we've seen many doctors and they all are wonderful. )

Dr. Allen is the most wonderful and helpful specialist I have ever met. Her staff of techs and assistants were also so kind and thorough through out the entire day. They explained every step of the process and even let me observe where possible. 100% would recommend every time for any specialty or emergency.

Lucy fell down a flight of stairs (she's 9 and a little unsteady), so we had an emergency visit. The doctors we spoke to genuinely cared about our dog and gave us several medical options, as well as their honest opinions about what would be best for our girl. I absolutely trusted them and their diagnosis with regards to Lucy. The doctors we spoke to were very clear and communicative, caring, patient with my questions, and seemed to genuinely care about the condition and we'll-being of Lucy. We are thankful they were there for us.

Staff were exceptionally kind and preliminary phone calls were reassuring. Intake went smoothly; procedures were clearly explained. Leaving our cat Rocket overnight at Red Bank was a relief, rather than a frightening experience. I really felt she was in safe hands (no small thing, for me). The total invoice for services came out slightly less than Red Bank's initial estimate and, though costly, was straightforward and fair.
A day after bringing Rocket home and thanks to the medication received she's in good shape, better than many weeks before we brought her to Red Bank. We didn't think we'd ever see her like that again. Amazed and so grateful!

I went in on new years eve around 7-8pm with my senior diabetic cat who was in very bad shape. We went for their emergency services. The vet let us know our options and unfortunately the best one was to put down our babe. We were able to hold him as they did the euthanasia. We took him home in a coffin with his name & a bunch of hearts on it. With his paw prints & a little nose print.
We had gotten a pawsake keepsake which recently arrived with a card offering their deepest condolences. The little things really made it better. Everything they did showed how much they care for animals. This was our first time there and I felt welcomed. We were only there for a few hours & it didn't cost as much as I thought it was going to. It was a heart wrenching experience but I can look back and say it was as nice as it couldve been. I'm grateful for everything you guys did. Thank you.

I recently moved to Red Bank from New York and was worried about care for my two older cats. I brought one one my cats in a few weeks ago and the second in this past weekend. I feel their health issues were taken very seriously and professionally and with understanding of my concerns. I am SO happy to have found such a great place to bring my pets. And in particular Dr. Martins is wonderful, caring, listens to my concerns and communicates to me in a way I, as a non-doctor, can understand.

Thank you to all the staff who were professional, Friendly, and communicative during an emergency. The staff and Dr made frequent phones calls to update and educate and answer questions. Efficient practice and all around felt secure and that my fur baby (rabbit) was in good hands. Wait time to be seen was minimal. All the tests were lengthy but the staff called ahead of time to review what tests were recommended and how long they would take. Very glad to have a 24 hr animal ER in the local area.

Our boy, Joey, was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The care from Dr. Krieger and the entire Team has been simply amazing. From the initial diagnosis and decided course of treatment to Joey's current program, there has been unconditional support, honesty and heartfelt care. We are very grateful to have Joey with us today!

RBVH can be costly compared to smaller vets but they are a true example of "you get what you pay for." Our vet, Dr. Ciolino goes above and beyond without being asked. She is responsive and keeps in contact before, during, and after any visit. When our late dog had cancer, the oncology department made me feel like he was their dog too. Even speaking to someone there for the first time feels like they genuinely care.
The techs are amazing and unbelievably kind. The women in the blood bank feel like family and make blood donations feel like a celebration. The people in the medical record and financial departments are quick to respond to any and all questions I may have. I can't imagine the stress and emotions that these vets and techs go through and their ability to put it on pause as they move to the next patient is an admirable talent.
It can be frustrating and scary when your pet is in need of care but I trust that my pets are a priority no matter the level of care required. Our dogs, Cosmo and Frank are in good hands at RBVH.

My 15 year old kitty cat recently became ill and I needed to take him for emergency care since it was after hours for my own regular vet. I took him to RBVH and through all their hard work and understanding my cat Wish is back to his old self again. I cannot thank RBVH staff for all of their compassion and thoroughness with diagnosing and finding the correct treatment for my cat's cancer. He is a happy cat again! Thank you RBVH!

I was lucky enough to get an emergency visit the next day because somebody canceled. The wait time why is almost nonexistent although I was nervous about my dog going in on her own because she gets so anxious she actually came out pretty happy even though she was experiencing quite a bit of pain. The explanation and time that I got to spend with the doctor afterwards was great.
I do wish I had taken a picture of the x-ray and if it's possible to get that I would like it. Calli is feeling significantly better but still not normal You made her feel comfortable and gave an extremely clear description of her condition.

I have used RBVH several times for emergencies and they are always very caring and thorough. They ran tests on my pup but we're mindful of the costs. After the results came in the doctor took time to have a conversation with me about what we could do next. They are compassionate and understand that our pet are family members.

The staff were fabulous and caring. I would pay for a stranger NOT to see this cold money grubbing woman. My 17 yr old ill dog was in the process of death. Barely breathing, the last 4 hours of his life all 4 legs stiff and would not bend, he could not walk, and the dog was screaming, not crying...screaming. He had numerous growths, vomiting, peeing himself and now screaming and can not move.
I called the Linwood Hospital for details of putting him down. My 19 and 18 yr old needed reassurance, without a doubt the dog would be dead in hours but a painful death.
Dr Montealegre told my kids the paralysis could be a herniated disc and maybe testing is in order. NO! The dog is dying, I want him out of pain. The vet said for $142 and testing she could determine if it is a herniated disc and fixable.
Both kids in tears, I said we will take him home, he would be dead in a few hours no doubt and her unkindness and bizarre diagnosis made my kids feel like they were doing something wrong. End of story?? She injected LESS than a cc of sedation to relax him and he died, why she injected him with 2 other syringes or finished the sedation on a dead dog is beyond me.
A staff member comforted my children after saying he was in pain and it was the best thing to do. The rest of the staff compassionate. Montealegre has no feeling and I will NEVER allow anyone I know to take their pet to this UN-VET.
