Services
Kay Animal Hospital is a well established, full-service small animal/exotic veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local specialty practices when special diagnostic procedures are required.
Dr. James E. Kay is a 1969 graduate of the University Of Georgia school of Veterinary Medicine. He has been in Douglas County since 1971 after graduating from Veterinary school. Served two years in the Air Force and one year in Vietnam. He is former Vice President of Chamber of Commerce, former President of the Kiwanis Club and past President of American Heart Association.
Here at Kay Animal Hospital we have always stressed the importance of yearly exams. The exam is the annual visit where your pet, depending on whether they are feline or canine, receives a complete, thorough physical exam, appropriate vaccines, heartworm testing and a fecal exam or deworming. Why are wellness exams important?
The Practice Manager, Kimberly Kay, has been with Kay Animal Hospital since 2006. She attended Georgia Southern University for two years and later obtained her real estate license as well as her Property & Casualty Insurance license. She joined the team to help her father, her brother, and for her love of animals.

I have been going to Kay Animal Hospital.for years with my old man Harvey (our Westie) and unfortunately in early May, we had to make the difficult decision to put him down. The staff at Kay were extremely supportive and caring.and I needed that because I was a pool of tears.we were able to say goodbye and send him to heaven comfortably, thank you for taking such good care of him over the years and at the very end

If you have a sick pet I highly recommend that you take them way before closing time if not you just s.o.l we took our husky Linkin that was very sick on Saturday and they ran a few test and said his organs were fine and he needed fluids but it was 12:00 and they where closing that we could take him to the emergency vet. Linkin has been going to them since he was a puppy and that how much they care about your animal

Kay Animal Hospital went truly above and beyond to save my sweet boy. Unfortunately he was too far gone. They didn't give up on him and provided him with the best possible care. They cared for us too. They helped me grieve and provided knowledge and comfort. I truly can't thank them enough on how they help him. Thank you.

This veterinary location is not very accommodating anymore when it comes to hours, prices, and patience. They don't have a vet that can give you a international health certificate anymore. They lack certain vaccines such a lime disease for example. They don't get back to you if you have certain questions. They don't answer the phone in a timely fashion either. This place used to be good, but now I don't recommend this to anyone looking for a veterinarian.

The Dr is ok but the stay are completely inept and have zero compassion, they don't know how to even keep an appointment right! As I was waiting with my Poor cat (who still May die) I watched several people trying to come come in for And appointment only to be told oh sorry you misunderstood or come back later. I have zero respect for these people. Staff need serious customer relations training and learn empathy and compassion

Unprofessional and disrespectful. My dog was brought in for a scheduled surgery at 9 and sat around until 2. We were given the runaround when we contacted them checking in on his status and they flipped their story of what happened each time we called. The only time we were called was 7 minutes before they closed saying that he was ready to be picked up and had been ready for hours.
The last call we also were met with an attitude due to us calling so many times asking for an update when they told us they would provide an update on what was going on and never did. Along with running a biopsy before notifying and charging us.

Had a horrible traumatic experience many many years ago. Will never be able to let it go or be able to get closure. Dr. Kay, and staff, murdered my dog through negligence. They were too busy being hopped up on pills and writing prescriptions for my murdered dog, and other pet owners apparently. After that they throw her into their dumpster. Knowing I was going to pick her up to have her cremated.
So y'all murder my dog, then throw her into a dumpster that I have to reclaim with all the other dead pets ya murdered, and then you proceed to write prescriptions in her/our name so you can get a buzz. Typical Disgusting Loathsome Humans. Will Never Forget. Will Never Forgive. - R.I.P. SHIVA -

I have been taking my dog here for almost 3 years now. I have NEVER been pleased with Dr. K and neither is my dog but Dr. Steve is freaking amazing! I just had to take my dog in and he required surgery. Misty was amazing as well and the rest of the staff involved. The doctor and staff was so sweet and considerate. Dr. Steve called me right after my dogs surgery as he said he would and Misty & Steve went over everything with me and my fiance.
They allowed us to see him one last time before they did the surgery and then Dr. K was like "you need to hurry up" and tried to rush us (eye roll) He sucks but everyone else is full on amazing! We will only go when Dr. Steve and Misty are working from now on.

Dr. Kay is the reason I am not pleased with this place. If you ask any questions, he will treat you like you are the scum of the earth. He is very condescending. I did cry on my way home out of frustration, which is completely unnecessary since I only asked what I could do to avoid fleas for my new baby. If he treats people like this, I'd hate to see how he treats animals, especially when no one is looking. There are times where they take the animal out of your sight.

Overpriced service and stuck up employees. My family and I just adopted a puppy and she's only 8 weeks old. Of course puppies are kind of hyper and one of the employees told us in a snobby manner to get her trained from a professional. It didn't stop there she continued to have an attitude with us about our puppy. I've never felt so disrespected. Not to mention they overcharged just for a doctor visit.

Got my pup fixed here, and everything looks great! Was a bit worried about how sloppy her incision looked in the beginning, but it healed just fine. The staff here is VERY friendly and knowledgeable in their jobs. Going back in tomorrow to have my dog's tummy looked at to make sure everything is A-ok, and I'm sure it will all be just fine. Did I mention that Kay has the best prices in town? 10/10, will visit again.

Horrible experience here. The sitting areas and patient areas are filthy. The entire place smells terrible. The vet was not friendly and wanted to sedate my little chihuahua in order to do an oral exam. The support staff was unprofessional--having loud, personal conversations among themselves, eating food and talking to me with a full mouth, leaving me in a room without any explanations.
I went down the street to another vet and was met with friendly staff and a CLEAN facility. The vet was also gentle with my pet and did a full exam without a suggestion of sedation. My dog is being treated for a tooth abscess and is doing well---no thanks to Dr. Kay's.

We have only been using Kay Animal Hospital for about 1 year. I wish we would have started using them along time ago. Dr. Michael Kay is one great guy! He is very thorough, knowledgeable and great with our pets. He really cares. The staff at Kay Animal Hospital is wonderful too! Our dog was hit by a car. They cared for her like she was their personal pet. I highly recommend this animal hospital for all of you veterinarian needs.
