Services
Many people question what the 3H means in 3H Equine Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Services means. In 1987 when the Cardenas family immigrated to the US, the "H's" proudly stood for Home, Horses and Hope. 3H began at the kitchen table of Dr. Fernando and Meredith Cardenas in 1997. They are the founders and owners of the premiere equine veterinary practice, serving five in North Carolina counties.

Meet those who listen well, genuinely care about you and your equines, and are always ready to respond to questions and concerns with compassion, professionalism and genuine friendliness. We had to put our horse down and they handled the arrangements. It started with spring shots. The vet gave them to our horse (we were not there) but, told us that she was at the end of her life and nothing more we could do on pain management. So, we complained about having given the shots if we needed to instead put her down. They completely reimbursed us for that visit, more than just the shots. Management took great care of us. We had been using them since moving to NC in 2015.

Dr Fernando and his crew at 3H are an outstanding vet team. I am an avid eventer with two horses that need some maintenance. Dr Fernando has been able to identify issues and the best course of action to treat each horse. He is excellent at explaining the ins and outs, as well as the way forward for what is required to keep my horses performing their best. He is very responsive and always texts or calls back! Highly recommend him and am sad to be moving away from the area!

Fernando Cardenas, and his group of excellent Veterinary Doctors, are amazing. 3H has been my vet since it opened and I have never for a moment thought of going elsewhere. I have had the good fortune of getting to know many of the 3H vets over the years. Each has been professional, knowledgeable, love their work, and a pleasure to know. The barns, areas, and pastures are meticulously maintained.
A year ago we sold our farm of 39 years and moved to a smaller house with no pasture. Fernando let me board and treat my horse at 3H knowing well that my horse has severe COPD and made a lot of extra work for everyone! Noteworthy, NW, was checked on several times a day. He was constantly needing meds, breathing therapy, and couldn't be around dust, he even was moved around the entire farm to help his breathing.
No matter what his health circumstances were, Fernando and the team found a way to keep him comfortable. No one else would have done that. I am forever grateful for the high quality care, attention, and even affection The Team showed NW and me. PS my horse recently, finally, gratefully, went to horse heaven.

A serious injury in a competition sport horse is very rough experience for all concerned. Is he in pain? Will he ever be sound? How can I fix this? Rehab takes patience, persistence and the right partners. I am tremendously grateful for being steared to 3H. Dr. Cardenas has the finest equipment.and the finest staff. He was always clear and thorough in his explanations and taught me so much about what my horse needed to regain soundness and fitness.
His staff treated my horse the same way that I do and he was calm and happy throughout his stay. My horse is continuing the long slow careful process of returning to Grand Prix level dressage and Dr Cardenas and his staff continue to support me and cheer his progress.

3H exceeded every expectation and the bar was high, as I know many who have rehabilitated there. Dr. Cardenas and his staff are compassionate, professional and problem solvers. They go above and beyond. The facility is beautiful, worth the visit and everyone is so welcoming. Attaching the "why we do what we do" from their website as I think it's a perfect testament to their program and mission.

Superb veterinary and horse care! Twice my horse has had extended stays at 3H Equine. Dr. Fernando Cardenas and the entire 3H team are incredibly knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. My horse is a unique and complicated patient that required diligent care, which he received. During a stressful time with a sick horse I never worried about the attention or quality of care Porter received. I would highly recommend 3H Equine! Thank you Fernando and your wonderful team!

Very simply, 3H and Dr. Gabby saved my miniature horses life. Everyone was super nice and professional but Dr Gabby deserves a special shout out! She treated Foxy like she was her own. She also kept us up to date every step of the way. My husband and I know Foxy wouldn't be with us now if it had not been for Dr Gabby. Thank you to 3H and Dr Gabby from the bottom of our hearts!

The entire 3H team is fabulous! My GP dressage horse was in their care for three months and he received excellent care. Dr. Fernando worked with my primary vet and developed and executed a successful rehab program. It was very difficult for me to send my horse 6 hours away but i quickly realized he was in excellent care. I received regular pictures, videos and text from Santiago who cared for my horse and rode him to get him back under saddle.
I was very grateful that both Dr Fernando and Santiago were always available to talk to me when I wanted to understand everything about the rehab progress. I picked my horse up two weeks ago and he was fit, sane and ready for me to start riding him. I highly recommend 3H and really appreciate everything they did for me and my horse!
