Orthopedic surgery is regularly performed at the hospital. The most common orthopedic procedure performed is arthroscopy where two small incisions are made into the joint and using a scope (arthroscope) to view the interior of the joint, bone fragments can be removed. Repair of fractured bones is also performed at the hospital.
Equine internal medicine deals with the prevention, diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of a variety of diseases in adult and pediatric patients. Most commonly these diseases involve the respiratory, digestive or neurologic system but also include cardiac, endocrine, kidney and liver disease. We have dedicated intensive care stalls, neonatal stalls, sling stall for neurologic for recumbent horses and an isolation barn to allow for the hospitalization of patients. The care of all our patients is supported 24/7 by a veterinary team, with additional staff added during foaling season when we have a higher volume of hospitalized and critical patients.
Our in-house laboratory is equipped with the Idexx Catalyst Dx and Idexx ProCyte. These instruments perform chemistry panels and complete blood counts, respectively. Results can be available within 20 minutes after the blood is drawn, depending on the type of blood sample obtained. The chemistry panel assesses liver and kidney function, and electrolyte concentrations can be included if needed.
The Class IV therapeutic laser has proven to be an exceptional aid in the treatment of sore muscles, soft tissue injuries (such as strained ligaments, tendons, and lacerations) as well as intra-operative and post operative care. The penetrating infrared laser provides energy at a specific wavelength and power.
We would like to make your experience here as stress free as possible. We ask that while your horse is a patient here that you follow some general considerations. My mom and brother drove over an hour to take the horse to this vet. The vet explained everything to my 16 year old brother as she was caring for the horse and was very through. When it came time to pay the professionalism was out the window! My mom asked if she could do a payment plan and was treated like a second class citizen. The treatment supplies she was given were taken from her and she was told she was lucky she was even getting the antibiotics the horse so badly needed.

My mom was asked to apply for care credit and was denied. The receptionist didn't believe she was denied and wanted to read the denial herself and asked my mom to hand over her phone. There were comments made about "people who don't have money" multiple times. At one point my 16 year old brother was asked to pay. My mom was then asked to sign a promissory note. If the promissory note was an option from the beginning, the way she was treated did not need to happen. My mom left the vet crying.

Our Rocky Mountain was injured and needed urgent care. The whole staff was absolutely fantastic. Our horse was treated with such great care. Everyone was thorough and crystal clear on follow up. The tech's came out and saw us off. I love this place. Here is the important thing everyone should know, - we love our horses. It is easy to up charge and gouge an owner when their animal is in pain.

It is a given when your animal is suffering you will do or pay whatever it takes. Their prices were fair and appropriate for that had to be done. I only wish for one thing- that ESH was in our hometown. Thank you, everyone from our entire family and Captain Kiko.

Dr. Milligan is in a class of her own when it comes to equine care. She was fantastic with my 2 year old paint gelding. She looked at his wound on his head and diagnosed him on the spot, did an ultrasound and X-ray and it was exactly what she predicted. I can't say enough good things! My horse is finally on the mend after a whole month of being mismanaged and misdiagnosed by another vet. I will be recommending this facility to all of my fellow equine friends! Thank you Dr Milligan for taking such amazing care of my horse!

A couple years ago we brought our horse here for an unusual infection/abscess in his neck. While Dr's Jackson were unable to save our Eddie, they provided amazing care. They were kind and assisted us in our decisions. I would not hesitate to bring another horse back to them.
