Services
At South Bosque Veterinary Clinic, we offer a variety of services to care for your pet. If you have any questions or would like more information on how we can care for your pet, please contact us today. Nothing is more important than routine examinations and preventive medicine for your pet. Your pet ages much faster than you, and yearly exams for your pet are equivalent to you seeing the doctor every 5 to 7 years. South Bosque recommends yearly check-ups for all its patients, and bi-annual checkups for our senior patients (older than six years).
Our boarding facility offers a wide variety of accommodations for your dog or cat. To make your companion more comfortable on his/her vacation, you are welcome to bring personal items (beds, toys, treats, etc). All dogs go out to play and potty three times daily, Monday through Friday. On the weekends and holidays, our staff members arrive in the morning and afternoon to take all pets outside and serve breakfast/dinner. All boarders who do not bring their own food are fed Prescription Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat while boarding.
At South Bosque Veterinary Clinic, you can expect state of the art medical care for your four-legged companions. We believe in nurturing the human-animal bond and creating a harmonious relationship between people and animals. You can expect to be greeted by a courteous receptionist, clean exam rooms, friendly doctors, and caring technicians.
Pet insurance pays, partly or in total, for veterinary treatment of the insured person's ill or injured pet. Some policies will pay out when the pet dies, or if it is lost or stolen. As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pet's health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.

I would seriously avoid South Bosque Veterinary Clinic because they hurt our two pets. The other reason is when the clinic was made aware of the injuries to our two dogs instead of helping to find out what happened they told us we were no longer welcomed at the clinic and they would not investigate anything. Do you think this is wrong or do you think their reaction should have been something like this: "We are very sorry that something has happened to your two dogs and based on your observation possibly an injury. We are very concerned about your two dogs and we would love to see them even x-ray them and give them a full battery of tests at no charge to you. Further because of your bad experience we're going to go ahead and comp you on your last appointment and give you a credit. After all this we're going to do a thorough investigation to find out what exactly might have happened to your two dogs. Possibly was there an accident where somebody tripped on them? What did the video tape show of every second that we had them in our possession while you were waiting out by yourself in the lobby? Rest assured we will get the bottom of what happened and make sure that if something needs to be done including firing or suspension we will do that. Please have faith in us we're going to look after your pets and we're going to get to bottom all this. Thank you South Bosque, Veterinary staff."
.....NOPE! The above response never happened.
I just made it up here to show you what should have happened and what likely would have happened at most professional veterinary clinics.
Unbelievably, South Bosque Veterinary Clinic retaliated against us by blocking access to Petsites where all our medical records are.

My cat, Nala, just turned 7 years old and I have been taking her to SBVC since she was 3 months old. She has chronic urinary issues and Dr. Taylor has always been great with her and knows about her past issues. I have seen 1 or 2 other veterinarians there when Dr. Taylor was out of office, and they were also very professional and helpful. They really care about your pet's health and happiness and take the time to listen and explain.
The techs are also very kind and gentle with my cat, and give her pets to calm her during vaccinations. I will be using this vet for as long as I am living in Waco, and I highly recommend it.

Dr Robert is always great with our dog and we believe saved his life on one occasion. She is professional and knowledgable while also being compassionate. The vet tech on the day of our last visit was exceptionally good with our dog who is old and cantankerous. I have been taking my dogs to South Bosque Vets for at least 15 years and have always had good experiences.

The staff and vets at South Bosque Veterinary were great. Our first visit we took our dog with a reoccurring ear problem. Dr Jarred spent the time to listen and diagnose. Problem solved, he offered up several solutions and some proactive things we can do which I appreciated. The recommendation solved her problem. Highly recommend their clinic.

I would highly recommend SBVC! We've only been here a short time but have needed a couple of fairly big services with both our dogs having surgeries. Dr. Johnston is expert at his craft- his communication and commitment stand out and he's top notch. One of our dogs needed a tumor removed in a tricky spot and his technique was experienced and skilled.
All the staff have been so helpful and friendly and have responded timely to questions. We started with them during the pandemic when it seemed as though it was hard to get other veterinary clinics to even get us in-so they stand above the rest just for that! Exceptional service!

Just moved to Waco and, with conflicting Yelp and Google reviews of the vet clinics here, I had a hard time deciding on a vet for our three middle aged-senior cats. South Bosque was recommended to me by a vet friend and even though it was a 15 minute drive with meowling cats, we had a great experience. Everyone was knowledgeable and glad to see us.
The vet and tech worked with me on a plan of care, instead of just telling me what to do and what I was doing wrong. The DVM herself offered to and did trim my cats claws' - that blew me away! I was so impressed by the clinic staff's responsiveness to my concerned call a few weeks later, too. The staff asked the vet and gave me advice over the phone on what to do with my vomiting cat. It was very reassuring and all is well. Would absolutely recommend!

This has been one of the best vet clinics in my experience. The staff respond quickly and are knowledgeable about your pet. They also spend time with you to answer questions and explain things. They have been great with putting our beloved retriever down and surgery on our sweet Pyrenees mix after all other treatments failed. Also Dr Taylor is a genius!
Our cat is, well.extremely gifted at doing ONLY what she thinks is desirable. She figured out a way we could give her anti-anxiety medicine and we had the best grooming session we had in years and no human blood lost!

When I moved to Woodway three years ago, South Bosque Veterinary Clinic was overwhelmingly recommended as the best in the area. My interactions with their doctors for my very senior schnauzer has been only positive. The techs patiently taught me how to administer her meds and subcutaneous hydration. Dr. Zamzow (my primary vet) explains treatments and meds in detail so I know what to expect during my dogs treatments. He's also very patient with my rescued feral cat, even through trimming her toenails! Yikes! Love the front office staff and techs; friendly and knowledgeable folks! Go here for your pets health. You will not be disappointed.

Terrible, money-making scheme. Staff here has been instructed to up-sell every time you bring your pet in for treatment, and a simple vaccine treatment could end up costing $200+. Full examinations cost $61.00, which is roughly to be expected, but so-called "simple" examinations, or those examinations that call on a vet to look at a single area on a dog will cost $50.00.
In my case, the vet took a short look at a tick bite on my dog, called me up and said "it'll be fine in a week." For that, I was charged $50. I don't doubt that South Bosque has the resources and expertise to care for your pet, but if you choose this vet, please be aware of their shady up-selling and their unfair pricing.

Horrible, money making scheme. Brought my dog's stool sample, $100 later, they found nothing even though I had reason to think there could be a potential issue. Relocated back home, brought the dog to the vet I've used for 20+ years, didn't cost nearly as much money and she needed to be prescribed meds. When getting her as a 8 week old puppy, they told me she needed to get an extra round of puppy shots (4 total). Believed them, but now realized it was probably just for extra money. Also, when she got spayed, she was somehow 40.1 pounds, so I was charged a higher amount which starts off at 40+ pounds.
If you want to order heartguard or any other medications online (through chewy), they will require that you get a paper prescription that needs to be mailed in, trying to add a few extra steps to make it more difficult so that you will use their pharmacy ($10-15 higher for heartguard). No thanks - will not be back or recommend to others.

I have been using South Bosque for my fur babies since 2011 when I first moved to Waco. Dr. Robert is very thorough and "problem solves" when necessary to make sure my kitties get the best care. I currently have a sweet geriatric kitty who has always been healthy but has been having a few issues during the aging process. I love the way Dr. Robert is truly working with us from every angle to make sure Parker can live out his golden years as comfortably and as healthy as possible. You just can't beat that kind of care!

Reason for visit: I came in to have my 7wk old puppy checked out yesterday because it seemed her respirations were not normal, not just breathing fast like typical puppies do. To start off, my personal experiences both being a client and working in a clinic shed great light on what I would expect a clinic to look, and smell like-- yes, I said smell.
This clinic hits every expectation I'd like to see when coming into a new (for me and my fur child) clinic. Everything is neat, tidy, and it smells wonderful. I was helped promptly by the receptionists, all of which were courteous. I waited a little while for my appointment (because I was used to walk-ins at my former clinic and sillily assumed) and was greeted 15 min prior to my actual appointment by a technician. STAFF: I love that almost all the technicians are certified in SOMETHING- LVT or certified assistant.
That let's me know my puppy is going to be cared for, and handled properly. The tech was very knowledgeable and was prompt with what she needed to do. Super friendly technician. My doctor yesterday was Dr. Zamzow, or Dr. Z, who had actually been a technician at this facility before he recieved his DVM-- which set very well with me- so he knows the ins and outs.
He was very informative and explained everything I would need to know. He did not seem or feel rushed to get me out like most typical vets. He took the time (even in-between other patients) to make sure my Marlee got what she needed. A few x-rays later and meds, we were good to go! A+++. Only thing is, their exam visit and x-ray is a little pricy, however, you get what you pay for- I would rather pay for professionalism and schooled knowledge at this facility than just pay for hired personnel that don't know what they're doing. You get real animal lovers here at SBVC. Thank you Dr. Z and staff at SBVC!

If you visit this location, be sure to ask for Dr. Robert! If she had her own vet practice I'd give her 5 stars across the board. However, I've had mixed experiences with some of the other vets here. Overall, though, this is an amazing clinic. The receptionists are friendly, there's plenty of room to sit, the waiting room is well-lit and airy with a coffee station for pet parents, and the staff are totally open to letting pet parents walk anxious puppies prior to an exam on the lawn outside (no worries about losing your appointment time, they'll just call your name outside when it's your turn!).
The office opens early and stays open until 6, and they're accommodating of people working a hectic full-time schedule. The prices at this office location are a bit higher than other offices in town, but this is by far the best vet practice in Waco (I've been to 3 others). Dr. Robert will take the time to get to know you and your pet to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
I wasted hundreds of dollars, multiple vet visits, and months of time at other offices with veterinarians who didn't bother to take the time to find out what the root cause of my pet's problem was, so in my opinion I'd rather pay a little more up front and get the job done right the first time.

They all about the money! Took my dog in, and I feel that they could've said what was wrong with her before they run an X-ray that they were unable to read but still charged for it. And all the tests were performed on her and come back with same result, unable to tell whats going on. But in the end I am been charged for some medicine, that they could've prescribe without hundreds of dollars in unnecessary tests. 40$ for 10 pills that you can buy them 16 for 4$ on Amazon Nice people there, but their smile is very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

This is the most amazing vet I have ever taken my dogs to. The staff is so kind and caring and Dr. Ferguson is so amazing at her job. She always does a very thorough exam and talks with me as well as my dogs through the whole thing. Yes, they are more pricey than some other vets in town, but you get what you pay for. Great vet care, compassion and happy pets!

This clinic runs up your bill by recommending unnecessary testing and procedures. I walk in with a suggested diagnosis, and instead of listening to me (I've owned my pets as well as others for my entire life and recognize the symptoms of typical maladies), they proceed to run up hundreds of dollars in expenses and the results are always what I walked in saying what the problem was. No more. Nice folks, but really - why do you drive up the cost every single time I come in?

I just have to give credit where credit is due. Dr. Jered Johnston and his amazing staff have taken great care of my pets for years. The staff is caring, patient, and friendly and I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Dr. J has always been very forthright in his diagnosis and quick to explain the implications and possible outcomes of each procedure.
He is a very friendly, caring, direct, and honest individual. I've even seen the staff cry with patients in certain circumstance because I was one of them. Unfortunately, my most recent visit to their office turned out to be one the worst and toughest days in my life. My 13 year old Golden's (TEX) kidneys were failing due to cancer in his body.
When I posed the question of what I should do, he was very direct with my options, but wanted to do what was in the best interest of my dog and my family. A few days later, I received a hand-written note from Dr. Jered and his staff. I was deeply touched by their message and have it saved to this day. A day or two after I received their note, I received a letter from the Texas A&M Veterinary Research facility saying that a monetary donation had been made TEX's name.
This gesture obviously wasn't something that they had to do, but definitely showed that they cared about the devastating situation that caused me to lose one of my best friends. I highly recommend SBVC and have referred several friends and clients to them over the years and will continue to do so.

What a phenominal place to take care of my "kids". They are professional, knowledgeable, and caring. The staff is friendly, the clinic is clean and presentable, and the Dr's are the best in Waco (in my opinion!). Definitely recommend them to everyone I know. A previous post mentioned high prices- but I found them pretty reasonable! I've been to several clinics in town and definitely believe you get what you pay for!

These guys cost at least 20% more than other vets I've been to. They also want about 7 dollars more per "check-up" visit than the 9 other vets in town I called. The last time I was in, they were helpful and answered all of my questions, but they also sent me home 150$ later with a 25$ bottle of ear drops for my dog that didn't work and were hard to administer.
Once I called them back they said "If you want to come back in, we can get her some different medication that is a one time deal and costs about 35$" Needless to say, my dog still has the ear infection and South Bosque wanted to charge me ANOTHER exam fee to be re-seen. Can we say money grubbing? Recently my dog had a severe allergic reaction, along with a secondary staph infection, and they wouldn't allow me to post date a check, even though we'd been to them before. (After calling about 9 other vets in the area - they stated that had we been currently clients of theirs they would have allowed this.) Either way I'm so much more pleased with EMERSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL that I am actually looking forward to working with them (Emersons.) again.

This is hands down the best vet office I've ever taken a pet to! My dog sees Dr. Hudspath, but I have friends who go to other vets in the clinic and they love them too. The office is off of HWY 84 past FBC Woodway, so it is a little off the normal path. I stumbled upon my vet when my dog had to take a trip to the Waco ER Clinic. I was so impressed by her care for my dog, and her desire to explain things to me clearly, that I decided she would be our full time vet!
My dog recently had major surgery and they explained things to me so I understood, never made me feel bad for asking questions, and let me come play with him when he had to stay there multiple nights. I recently moved, and I really wish I could take them with us!
