Services
Founded in 1972 by Drs. William Condon and Kenneth Rix, Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital has been providing exceptional veterinary care to cats, dogs, and pocket pets in the Tiverton area for almost 50 years. As an AAHA-accredited animal hospital, we work hard to maintain the rigorous standards set forth by the American Animal Hospital Association to ensure your pet receives the best medical treatment possible. We've undergone many changes throughout the years but one thing that's remained constant is our commitment to pets and the people who love them.
William Condon and Kenneth Rix founded Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital in 1972, just two years after they graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. While each doctor gained experience working in separate veterinary practices, they sought a partnership. After some careful market research to determine where there was a genuine need for veterinary care, they decided to locate their practice in - and move their families closer to - the Tiverton and Little Compton region collectively referred to as Sakonnet.
Meet our dedicated veterinary technicians, assistants, client care specialists, and pet care attendants. We are devoted to you and your pets. Please let us know what we can do to improve our services and to make your experience at Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital the best!
Our veterinarians offer preventive care, wellness exams and services for kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs. Diagnostic imaging allows our veterinarians to look at your pet internally for clues about sickness or injury. Dental care is an essential part of your pet's overall health to prevent dental disease and tooth loss.

We have been clients of Sakonnet for over 30 years (6 dogs, 3 cats, 5 rats). This group has become very difficult to work with. Leslie has hung up on me multiple times. No two people can give the same information. I am definitely changing veterinary services as soon as possible. Don't bother trying to work with these folks. They have limited accreditation and are simply rude beyond belief. Edit: based on the owners response you can see how little they care.

When you get hung up on multiple times by a rude receptionist over a 45 minute period of time, one gets a bit testy. Pass on the sarcasm as well. Based on the other comments here, they're just a joke. Bless your heart. Bah hah ha ha. JOKE!

I accompanied my sister for her dog to get her third series of shots. The hospital has made clinics very convenient. Customers wait in their cars with their pets and check in via phone call or text message. A representative collects the pet from the parking lot when its queue number is up, so we did not need to enter the building or worry about her dog seeing other pets. The service was efficient and safe. Afterwards, the rep brought the dog back; she was so calm afterwards, we know they took great care of her.

I've been bringing my dog to this vet for the last 7 years and have always had a great experiences with the vets and tech staff until Dr Maria Reinhardt came on. I have no doubt she is knowledgeable, however, she is rude, seems burnt out, and has absolutely no bedside manner-you'll leave there feeling like any issue with your dog is your fault because of her. Also, between COVID and construction/renovation I have been unable to accompany my dog inside which only increases the anxiety that he is experiencing, especially since the check ups are happening in a back room where there is much activity going on between people and animals.

I've been told by Reinhardt that I now need to drug and muzzle my dog upon visits when I NEVER had issues with my dog behavior at the vet, at home, or anywhere for that matter until she came along. Unfortunately, at no fault to the amazing techs that work there, I will be changing vets until Dr. Reinhardt is gone. I'm disgusted by the service she had provided and am fully considering driving 40 mins to see Dr. Middleton whom used to treat my dog at Sakonnet.

I have been taking my pets to Sakonnet Vets for a very long time. It's good to have a platform now to say how wonderful they are. The Doctor's and staff are knowledgeable and very compassionate. The are also very prompt to get you anything you need. I know when I need to take my pets to Sakonnet that they are in good hands. I won't go anywhere else.

This is a RANT I am disgusted. With Vet tech experiences I will never return. Here are the 6 reasons why, the last is unacceptable 1) Post covid and excuses on their part they will not let you go in to the office with your dog. I can go to the pediatrician with my child but not in an office with my dog? They use "Construction" as an excuse. It's easier for them to go without having YOU to witness anything?

Red Flag. 2) When I began going there 4 years ago there were 4 VETS now there is ONE. one argumentative not so pleasant one. 3)A VET should know the difference between a Pea and a Bean, one is a vegetable one is a legume, they are NOT the same. I was told my dogs should not have beans in their food! Also told the food I have contains peas which she continued to say are beans. here is the list of food ingredients for the top of the market food: Dr. Marty's Nature Blend What is the complete ingredient list? Turkey, Beef, Salmon, Duck, Flax, Beef Liver, Turkey Hearts, Turkey Liver, Sweet Potato, Eggs, Pea Flour, Carrots, Apples, Blueberries, Cranberries, Pumpkin Seeds, Spinach, Ginger, Salt, Mixed Tocopherols. 5)The Vet said my dogs were underweight at 50 and 54 lbs AKC doesn't think so saying average weight for a collie is 50-70, but she does (wonder how much she actually knows about Collies) and says they need about 4 lbs (?) more. Dr Elsa who they saw before said they were in perfect shape and weight and she'd rather see a slimmer dog than an obese one 6) MOST IMPORTANT one of my two dogs was treated at Sakonnet for Leptospirosis, and they saved his life, that was 4 years ago. TODAY this VET Dr. R HAD NO IDEA he had this life threatening disease, and was treated at their (her hospital) for about 8 months at that site. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. NO time to review a record? I made the appointment over a month ago. I will not be returning here and I highly suggest you truly seek an alternative for loving care for your dog.

I absolutely love this veterinary clinic. They are always so efficient and helpful. They don't over treat or try to sell you things your pup doesn't need. The vet takes time to talk to you and explain and she follows up. The assistant staff are always kind, caring and friendly. I feel very lucky to be here. Easy access location from Bristol, RI also (avoiding 114 and Metacom going towards Warren). Highly recommend !

The vet Maria Reinhardt is a joke. I implore you not to take your pets there. The staff is fantastic the vet no way. Completely unprofessional does not communicate well over the phone huffing and puffing. If you want clear communication Maria is not the vet for you. When it comes to the safety and wellness of my puppy this place is unacceptable. 2 visits 2 different issues to rope you in. Dont go.

The staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. They explained everything in detail in a way that was easy to understand. You can tell that they genuinely care about your pet.

I'm sure the vets are competent, compassionate, skilled people but the management end of the business could use a little tune up. I forgot my credit card when I took my dog for an annual vaccine. Could I write a check? No, they didn't take checks. I was relieved to have the exact amount in cash! Imagine the disappointment when told that Sakonnet Vet didn't take cash, either.

Credit card or the highway. (PS: If you call around 1PM don't be confused if you get a recording saying you've "reached [them] after normal business hours". They're not taking the day off, they're just closed for lunch.)

Dr. Z & Dr. Reinhardt are the Vets at this office and they are very friendly, informative, descriptive with my animals conditions and very empathetic towards what's going on! I am in week 5 of taking my 15wk old English Bulldog, Maximus, to them on a regular weekly basis as he is suffering from Viral Pneumonia and requires X-Rays, antibiotics and nebulizer treatments and they have been there for me EVERY STEP of the way! Thank you for all of your love & support!
