Adobe Animal Hospital We are very excited to announce that we are re-opening medical boarding to our Adobe patients! Adobe Animal Hospital opened in 1964 as an Open Hospital, with a mission to serve the community by allowing owners to stay with their pets for many treatments and to personally experience the high level of medicine and teamwork Adobe has to offer. This Open Hospital philosophy continues today at both of our locations. We encourage you to experience it for yourself! Routine veterinary dentistry involves prophylaxis (teeth cleaning), polishing and a full oral examination.
Services
In 1965, Jerry Berg joined the practice and the 2 veterinarians were partners for 37 years until Dr. Berg's retirement in 2002. Over the years, the popularity of Adobe Animal Hospital grew and more veterinarians were added. The hospital expanded services to 7 days a week and began offering 24 hour care in 1992.
What is an Open Hospital? Well, Adobe Animal Hospital was founded and built around the concept of the Open Hospital and in basic terms it means that want you to be part of your pet's medical care. You will be able to be with and support your pet while many medical treatments are being performed. We are proud of our team, our medicine and our relationship with you and your pet.
We hear this a lot at our hospital in Los Altos. Experience the high quality of medicine our 20 doctors and amazing team offers at this Open Hospital. Get answers quickly with in-house lab work, ultrasounds and surgery available. Our ICU is staffed 24 hours a day so your pet is never left alone when it's sick.

Update: brought my pup here again for urgent care after several years.
The post-pandemic experience is even better- we were checked in within 15 minutes and the vet tech and doctor came to take a look at my dog soon after. I got the prescriptions from the pharmacy and was on my way an hour after I reached.
The vet was very knowledgeable and all the staff were helpful. It wasn’t too expensive either as they didn’t do any unnecessary procedures.
It’s a little far from my house (~1 hour to reach there) but definitely worth it.

Adobe demonstrates a profound commitment to the well-being of your beloved pets, boasting a hospital fully equipped to deliver unparalleled care. Remarkably, the facility mirrors the sophistication of a human hospital's emergency room. When my aging cat faced a critical moment recently, Adobe's team swiftly admitted her to the ER, extending compassionate support at no cost to ensure her comfort. They graciously accommodated my presence, providing exemplary care not only for my feline companion but also for me during a time of utmost need.

My cat’s needs are met. I couldn’t say much in the past about standard check ups and care but due to a recent emergency, I can say it was managed due diligently in terms of criticality and timing. My concerns were addressed to my expectations. Thank you!

The veterinarians at this establishment are incredibly friendly, and a significant number of them employ fear-free methods in pet healthcare. Given that my dog tends to react strongly in certain situations, I am particularly grateful for their patience, even when it inconveniences them. Their approach not only ensures my dog's comfort but also educates me on advocating for her and ensuring she has the most positive experience, even in stressful circumstances.

The staff here is great, but they have become so busy that new clients are not welcome (not an issue for me, but for anyone new...). Sadly, they have become more difficult to deal with and don't like to work with 3rd parties, such as external pharmacies, making more work and wasted time for their clients that don't purchase pharmacy items directly from them. Hope they realize the inconvenience this is for customers and their families.

Very disappointed in Adobe when I called last week for an appointment. We've been a customer there for over 20 years but because we haven't been recently (we have a healthy indoor cat), the woman on the phone said we are no longer considered a customer and added that they are not accepting new customers so there is no way for us to get an appointment for a wellness check.

I have to point out that our vet (or "prior" vet I should say), Dr Nancy Clifton, is GREAT, but what poor customer service when you are struck off the customer list and to be told we don't want you back. Oh well, I guess they don't need the clientele or the money! We've found a fabulous "welcoming" new vet, so I guess there is a silver lining in everything!

Adobe is literally the worst vet in the Bay Area. They have awful customer service and have commonly guilted me for my decisions for my pet. They have zero empathy for your pets and are purely worried about their compensation. They take hours to do routine blood work or check ups. After so many awful experiences with Adobe (including one which cost my pet its life), I cannot continue seeing vets there.

There are lots of other vets out there. It's not hard to move. Adobe is not worth it anymore. My wife and I have had multiple pets as patients at Adobe over the past 30 years but in the last 2 years ( i felt) they almost killed our standard poodle and our lab mix. The poodle by not sending him home with antibiotics after surgery and the lab by not agresively treating a skin infection ( greater than 10% of the dog was an open sore after not getting his Apoquel for 2 weeks due to lack of response from Adobe).

Just spent 30 min on the phone with Maria trying to get a well pet visit for the lab. After she seemed to not be able to hear me she said she called my voicemail to confirm my appointment. No voicemail in my mailbox. Did she leave amessage? Does she not know how to use the phone system? Is the phone system at Adobe still messed up 2 years after SAGE "teamed with" them? Is this just one more indication that Adobe's service has severely declined over the last few years?

On their way to being the "Mayo Clinic of veterinary medicine" have they forgotten the patients and their families? Ok enough with the rant. I feel betrayed by a business that I have been loyal to for over two decades and will be moving my dogs and cats to a better clinic. Adobe is just not worth it anymore.

Really disappointed that Adobe will no longer approve orders made through 3rd party online pharmacies. They claim that it takes extensive time. They only make ordering easy at their partner online pharmacy.

From beginning. covid safe, though I don't like waiting outside, it's wise. Staff professional and the doctor precise and excellently explains diagnosis over phone call, it's all printed out after and I wasn't over charged like some place will. Four paws in Dublin and now I've moved and it's just as excellent & I'm glad I found them

Adobe vets and technicians have been our cats primary form of care for the past 10 years. They have been nothing but kind and the best guidance when health decisions need to be made. We truly appreciate each one of you. Thanks for everything you do.

Vets are great but they have recently cut their hours and appointments are extremely difficult to get (even for well established patients). All of their non-check up appts are now "urgent/walk-ins" with significant increase fee for "not having an appt". Insane costs. Looking for a new vet!

What a pretentious high-priced place. Seems the Veterinarian try to churn more profits and don't really care about the animals. I spend over 700$ for stool culture and multiple lab test. After more than a week no one can give me results. I am a nurse and know labs and stool culture do not take over a week. With multiple calls and the manager apologizing, still no results.

Seem very poor that another Veterinarian cannot give results. Seems SOMEONE has the knowledge to read the results My dog remains sick, but I will find another Veterinarian for services. I am very disappointed! As someone already said. Despite an emergency visit, there was no follow up on lab results and no treatment for a critical situation. Seems there are far more negative reviews than good. Listen Adobe!

This review is for the hospital but mostly for Dr. Maxwell. I cannot say enough good things about him. He did our dogs' TPLO surgery last year. He was kind, communicated flawlessly about pre and post op. Our dogs' leg is better than before the injury. We came back again today for another issue with our dogs' front leg. We knew when our regular vet said we needed to go see someone who specializes in orthopedics that we would be coming back to see Dr. Maxwell again.

He is so knowledgeable and professional. He also doesn't make you feel like an idiot when you ask questions. He is so patient. I feel 100% certain about his choices and judgment calls. He hasn't led us wrong! Thanks Dr Maxwell! Also this is the nicest vet clinic/hospital I've ever stepped in. Extremely clean and organized. -Maddie and Solo Brooks

This last weekend we took our little girl to the emergency vet. We HAD to ask for xrays, blood and urine tests to be done. Reluctantly the emergency doctor did do what we asked - but made a real point to tell us how much it will cost to do what we ask and made cost a real point. PEOPLE we shouldnt have to ask for these, it should have been automatically done.

Yes our little girl is overweight. The doctor concentrated more on that than the actual injury. Doctor was real big on statistics about 54 percent of dogs are overweight in the US - WE DONT CARE ABOUT OTHER DOGS STATISTICS - WE CARE ABOUT OUR LIL GIRL. Doctor basically prescribed ibuprofen for a torn ligament - A TORN LIGAMENT. Basically emergency didnt do crap for our lil one - real sad things have changed here that much

I have been going to Adobe for 23 years. They have seen me through many dogs, triumphs and tragedies. So grateful for everything they continue to do for me and my current rescue. The Melon Head always enjoys his visits, even when he gets poked for blood draws. Simple surgery scheduled for next week and I will be by my dog's side when he gets a local. Grateful for that many procedures, i can be with my pet.

Sadly, Adobe's quality has declined with the new ownership (Paul). They are short staffed and the burnout is palpable. The vet tech (Sarah) was rude and Cindy (manager) inappropriate. Despite an emergency visit, there was no follow up on lab results and no treatment for a critical situation. The manager sent me (the client) the lab results to interpret to make the decision to euthanize. No vet was able to call me, despite the vet saying she would call within 24 hours. Unacceptable end of life care.

This hospital used to be the #1 and now the only thing they're #1 in is prices. They aren't even open at night anymore! Wtf hospital is this. Also killed my friends dog. Plz put this reputation 6 ft below. It's needed.

We took our 13 year old dog to Adobe. She had stopped eating or drinking, she just stayed in bed and slept all day and night. The Staff at Adobe were so caring and kind to her and to us. We were given a room to decide how to proceed, or to just say goodbye to her. We stayed for around two hours, talked to the Doctor and staff. Ordered another Ultrasound which they allowed us to attend with her and hold her. We were constantly told to take our time, to stay as long as we needed.

I've been using Adobe for over 20 years. That said, since Covid (even post vaccines) they've been much more difficult to work with (i.e. they only allow email that they call "chat" unless it's an extreme emergency, etc). Plus, our 12 year old cat is now being denied an emergency visit/care since they are at "max capacity". They have provided a laundry list of other animal hospitals with no assistance in getting our cat transferred.

I've always stuck with Adobe thinking they would be there when needed in an emergency. Now, I need to rethink what's best (i.e. there are cheaper alternatives for routine care and if Adobe isn't there for emergencies, why pay more for routine care). PS: This review might not matter to Adobe as they are not accepting (since early Covid) new customers. No telling when they will have to start treating customer the care one would expect given their high prices.

For years, I defended Adobe despite all the criticisms I've heard from their former clients. I had my two dogs there for years and spent thousands of dollars between wellness visits and even had surgery for one of my dogs there. Unfortunately we will be now taking our business elsewhere. Service has really gone downhill as many others have pointed out.

The manager Cindy is extremely unreasonable. She is not impartial and takes the side of her staff without actually getting the full story. Now I understand why staff can be extremely rude to customers and get away with this nonsense. It apparently flows down from the top! It also takes forever to get appointments, apparently they have too much business so they can't service their old loyal customers well anymore. As a result, we will be taking our business elsewhere. I called the vet clinic just a mile away, and they were very happy to take on our menagerie of pets!

Most of the vets are good, ours is a God to say the least. Just absolutely the best there is. Without her, some of the vets here would have taken unnecessary measures to do minor surgeries or non invasive treatments (not their fault, as it's what they were trained to do). The best part about this place is their open door policy. You can even observe your animals going through surgery!

When I first moved to Southern California (recently, actually) I looked at every vet around me and I have yet to come across a vet clinic that even comes close to Adobe. HOWEVER. with all of the changes Adobe is making with their staffing shortages, the only thing I'm truly heartbroken about now is 1) not having our god of a vet next door, and 2) the cleanliness of the clinic.

Everything else is the same. Same quality of vets, same hours (Adobe is no longer an emergency clinic. They are closing at 5pm and will actually TRANSFER some pets to emergency clinics for overnight care). Sigh. I sure hope they reflect these changes in their rates and decrease their exam prices. I didn't mind paying premium prices when they offered the services I was looking for (having access to a hospital with emergency care 24/7 is important to me) but if you're going to be an average clinic then you should only be charging average prices. Just IMO. I'm very disappointed in these changes they have made. Next thing you know they're going to take away their open door policy.

Their pharmacy service is speedy and no hassle. During the covid time they had to cut down on services so they are not accepting any new patients to better service existing patients with the limited staff. We had to go for an emergency on 4/2021 and the staff seemed caring and empathetic towards our situation. We didn't get to go in at the time, but the staff came and got our dog from the parking lot.

Not worth it - quality of vets/care have gone down. Take your business to another local smaller vet who actually has experience and availability to treat your pet when you need the treatment. Unethical business model of trying to get you to urgent care / emergency care where they can charge you 2-3x premium.

They really have a lot to be proud of. While their reputation is for being the place to go if you want to pay the MOST you can possibly pay for veterinary care, today I felt it was worth every penny. Today (Sunday), I euthanized my dog. I hadn't been there in some time and since Covid, they're not taking new clients. My abscence was long enough that I really didn't qualify as a current customer, but when I explained my, and my dog's, situation they were kind and accommodating.

Try to find on open vet on a Sunday and you'll understand my gratitude. My own regular vet, who had been treating my dog said he couldn't schedule me until next Wed. Very tough to hear that when your pet is declining very quickly. When I arrived they were kind and efficient. They have a special room with a couch and floor bed for end-of-life events. There's even a plaque on the door telling people what it is used for and asking people to be quiet and respectful of a difficult situation for pets and humans.

They give you all the time you need, there is no time pressure. A nurse comes in, let's you know what will happen, gives you time alone with the pet, then comes in to apply a sedative which puts your pet into a calm sleep. They give it plenty of time to take effect, over 15 mins in our case. That let my dog fall asleep in my arms without fear.

The doctor then came in and applied the life endings medicine, kindly and quickly, asking first if I was ready. When I gave the go-ahead, they applied the medicine at the rear leg with my boy's head still in my arms. I felt his last breath on my forearm, the Dr checked his heartbeat, and he was gone. They were sincere in their condolences and again, let me stay for as long as I needed to say goodbye.

I will be forever grateful for the kindness and sensitivity of the staff on such an emotionally tough day. Yes, they're expensive. There is great value in the sensitivity, generosity, 24/7 availability, efficiency, and professionalism they showed. I'll be bringing my future pets here regularly.

Here's where I usually take my dog, so I'm giving a 3 star review. The doctors are very good. Ask for Denise, she's really good. Two stars off - the reason being the price. I wanted my little dogs teeth cleaned. Obviously it required general anesthesia, and the cost was high, really high like in the $2500 range. So, yes, good place but pricey as hell!

Adobe has some of the best vets in the area, who are constantly pulled down by the abysmal administrative/support teams around them. I've called Adobe five times now, over the last year, trying to get them to change my contact information to current info. My 10-year old dog is going into surgery at Adobe, and they're sending texts and e-mails to a number I no longer have control over.

Their support says "the system doesn't even have the other number/e-mail, there's no way you're getting message to it", and yet, I am. First, support transferred me to Summer, who is on vacation until sometime in October. I didn't leave a voicemail, hung up, and called back. Then, they transferred me to Paul Eccles, who I did leave a voicemail for. Paul didn't bother replying.

I guess he has better things to do. Finally, I was able to get my actual vet to fix the mysterious TeleVet system that none of the support/front desk/admins seem to have control over, and Paul Eccles (Adobe's Practice Manager) doesn't care about.

Adobe has saved multiple cats of ours multiple times. They're so sweet and compassionate. I'm super grateful that they're in the area, and the South Bay location is even more convenient for cats that don't like long car rides.

Adobe has been taking care of our Klee Kai for a number of years. The team there is organized, knowledgeable, friendly, and sensitive to the needs of our dog. They are our "go-to" place to pick up our supply of flea, heartworm, etc. medication. Note that due to the current pandemic, they are not accepting new "patients".

The second star is for Dr. Ellis. If she had her own practice or I could guaratnee I would deal with her every time I went in, I would highly recommend her. Unfortunately when you're going in on an emergency it's the luck of the draw who you get. She is an amazing, caring, awesome vet who I highly recommend, but I've stopped going to Adobe for other reasons. I've stopped coming to Adope entirely, and it wasn't anything to do with their service during Covid, I know all the vets are suffering right now. It's because they've misdiagnosed or ignored issues with pets of mine and several of my friends.

There have been several instances where they said something was fine, or asked to recheck something on a pet at a later date which they described as "nothing major". In my instance I specifically asked repeatedly why they wanted to recheck something they considered "nothing major" and they said "just in case" and refused to say what that meant. Just in case of what?!

I had an appointment with Sage the same day and who said "Oh, that might be cancer, we need to biopsy it immediately because of the location it could be fatal if it is cancer". I was shocked and angry to learn this since Adobe literally told me they wanted to recheck something that was "no big deal". I don't even have words. This is, unfortunately, only one of many issues I've had with Adobe in recent years. Billing is a huge hit or miss here and that is a major issue with me.

It seems some vets charge you for every single paper towel and the very air you breath, and some vets don't. Some vets do tests and charge you for them without really explaining you're going to be charged several hundred dollars - which you find out when you're paying to leave. Some vets are very up front about each and every cost. I had one vet quote me a price for a surgery, then the actual financial department said "oh, no, it's double that and the vets aren't supposed to tell you price because they don't know what it costs".

I can't even begin to explain how frustrating it is when a minor surgery doubles in price in the span of an hour. It feels very much like you've been tricked. A friend of mine came into Adobe with an emergency, their pets paw was getting swolen and was extremely painful. Adobe said not to worry about it, and refused to provide further care.

They went on a vacation out of state with the pet. Unfortunately, the very next day the dog's swollen paw doubled in size and they had to spend several thousand dollars getting an abcess dealt with at an unfamiliar out of state vet via emergency surgery. Every time someone I know goes into Adobe I feel like they come out of it with a horror story.

I don't know what is going on with Adobe. Years ago they provided the best service in the area and I would have happily referred anyone to go there at any time. Hands down. Now I can't even recommend them for emergencies. Most of the time they end up telling you to go to Sage anyway because they don't have the specialists or equipment.

I don't think they're even taking new clients for emergency visits anymore, everyone is getting referred to Sage who is completely overbooked and continues to take patients. I can't really blame them for their response for Covid, which is why it's not effecting my ratings.

We've been taking our pet to Adobe for years but since the pandemic they are not customer service driven, only driven by $$$$$. All appointments are urgent care $$$ and even then have to be scheduled weeks in advance. If the appointment has to be scheduled weeks in advance, how URGENT is the visit? We paid the urgent care services fee and brought in our pet for the scheduled appointment. Dr Ellis promised to follow up in a month for the follow up visit.

When this did not happen, I called into the customer service number and asked to schedule the follow-up visit. I was told I would have to schedule two week out, which wouldn't work for our urgent situation. They said that I could not speak to Dr Ellis and there were no notes for the follow up visit so there was nothing they could do for me. Needless to say, I switched veterinarians and will not return to Adobe.

We always knew they were expensive, but we were willing to pay the extra money for the superior service. But when they are charging excessive fees and not providing good care- its time to find a new veterinarian.

My baby girl (dog) was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and a gall stone at an emergency hospital. After her release we took her here for treatment and an evaluation because she still did not feel well. We've taken her here a few times. Dr. said he was running a test for 'cushings syndrome'. After $260 for that test, he stated we need to do another test to 'confirm' and verify it really is 'Cushings Syndrome' and that would be about another $300 or so.

I did not do the confirmation test, as that should have been done first instead of making it drag on and pay 2x (twice). We took her somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. We had to put her down because she was never diagnosed with Diabetes and went into a Diabetic Ketoacidosis with very low odds of making it. It would have been nice if the doctor had looked for something that is more normal, then a disease which is uncommon, especially in her breed (Chihuahua). Do your own research and be weary. I don't feel this vet is very knowledgeable in his field.

Adobe has been fantastic in caring for our pup. I always know that going there is the best choice if he needs urgent care. I trust their doctors and I know that they love and care for him! They have also seen our chinchillas and bonded so quickly I was jealous!!! the girls are very judgmental

I always have amazing service at Adobe with my dog Brody. But they really came through when I found a kitten on the side of the road. They were very patient with him and me as we made sure he was healthy and I would be a good cat mom. Also, there is always good dog watching while you wait.

SHAME ON ADOBE - LOUSY ATTITUDE AND WORSE PET CARE!!!!!! Maybe the worst vet experience ever - from a once happy and loyal customer. No more. Adobe has been seeing my dog for years. He is old with arthritis and a bad hip. Some days he has great difficulty in walking on the bad hip. The VET there TOLD US to just give him medications to keep him comfortable while he lives out his last remaining time.

We just ran out of the meds needed, and they will not refill. They claim that California law requires them to see the dog at least once in 365 days, regardless of the fact that they told us there is nothing to do but keep him comfortable. So I made and appointment and asked for a bridge prescription for 5 days. The same prescription they gave us a 5 month supply for before.

They would not do it. They claimed it was because of California law. I asked for a copy of the law, which they gave me, and it makes no stipulation unless the prescription is a controlled substance. It is not because it is Gabapenten. So my dog now has to suffer because Adobe will not help. This is about making money not good medical care for an ailing dog. Shameful behavior. I will have another vet see him. If I have to pay money it won't be to these money grubbing people. Don't take your pets there!!!!!!
