Born and raised outside Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Mark Anderson received his veterinary degree from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. Prior to attending veterinary school, however, Dr. Anderson received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University.
Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital is proud to be an AAFP certified Cat Friendly Practice. It can be stressful for both you and your cat to visit the veterinarian. The veterinary visit starts before you even arrive at the veterinary clinic with trying to get your cat in the carrier and the car ride to the practice.

I drive from Escondido to Rancho Bernardo because BHVH is the best! I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Anderson for the past 12 years. This should say something, when there are so many choices out there! I always appreciate the thoroughness in explaining my dog's medical needs, and the follow up care that they give. A few of my dogs have had very complex issues, and Dr. Anderson explains every condition in great detail and with compassion and care.
I use dog insurance, and BHVH has always been very helpful in providing the documents that I need. I appreciate how they always go the extra mile. I highly recommend Dr. Anderson and BHVH and staff!

My 18 year old chihuahua was having an urgent medical issue and I couldn't get her in anywhere and the line at urgent care was extremely long. My friend reccomeded Bernardo Heights Veterinary hospital to me and when I called and explained the situation they were able to squeeze her in that day! The whole staff was wonderful and warm and I really felt like I could trust them with my tiny best friend! I will definitely be bringing her here going forward.

It was our first time to be there I just changed the hospital for my puppy dog. The atmosphere was really warm and the nurse and doctor were really kind and professional. Their advice was really helped me even though I'm a first time dog owner. Highly recommend here if you find the nice vet around RB area.

Dr. Roberto is an amazing doctor and really understands our dogs' needs. The staff are accommodating to our dog that has anxiety and allows him to be with his sister which helps him be more cooperative. Prices are also very competitive, and they've made room for us last minute multiple times which has prevented us from having to visit the emergency vet. Highly recommended to all to our family and friends with pets.

Definitely a positive experience. Dr Abrams was highly recommended by my neighbor. I have also seen Dr Rica Roberto, D.V.M. Since I was not allowed to enter the first visit due to Covid restrictions & waiting in the parking lot my adopted pet was nervous. Both that visit & the second went well. I highly recommend their caring front office staff & excellent care from the doctors.

Drove 70 miles one way to have tplo surgery on both legs of my dog here. They had everyone beat on price, service was great and surgeries were a success. My dog is running and jumping again like nothing happened. Had lots of follow up consultations with the doctor after surgery. It seemed like they really cared about my dogs well being. If it wasn't so far from my house this would be my regular vet.

I've been with Bernardo Heights Vet for nearly 7 years now, since my shelter kitten came home with worms and a respiratory infection. They've never failed to get an appointment time for me and gave extremely good care for my cat. She's never really came back traumatized (compared to visiting another vet in a different town during a trip) by the doctor and techs, and they've always explained the procedures well.
I have since moved much, much further from this location but I continue to take the long drive for their services. Switching to new vets is hard, but finding good ones that works with you is harder. (Also not sure if they're still doing this post-pandemic, but they used to have a Wednesday cats only sort of day, which was very thoughtful imo.)

I am so happy that I switched over to Bernardo Heights! One of my dogs needed TPLO surgery and the staff and all of the doctors have been amazing. Dr Frankel performed the surgery and Belle is like a new dog on that leg. I've taken my other two dogs in also and we are so impressed with the staff and the doctors. Dr. Anderson really explains everything thoroughly and we couldn't be happier.

The wonderful doctors and caring stsff at this clinic are simply Angels. They have cared for my mom's elderly cat with patience, kindness, realistic options and we finally said goodbye to our Muffin under their most loving care. To take one more step to let us know that we are part of their family, we received a sympathy card with the sweetest paw print on a separate card with muffin's name on it.
