We are your local neighborhood veterinary clinic. Located on the corner of St. Clair and Snelling Avenue, We happily serve the needs of the Mac-Groveland and surrounding communities of St. Paul. We want to earn your trust and become your primary resource for pet information and care. As a privately-owned small business, run by three veterinarians and support staff, we host a caring, family atmosphere.
Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota offers a Pet Loss Support Group that meets at the Oakdale location on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Molly picked me out at the Animal Humane Society. She was about 10 months old. She was brought in as a stray. She had a litter.
In addition to giving your pet a thorough physical examination and taking a complete medical history, your veterinarian will examine your pet's teeth and gums and may recommend cleaning and polishing. Your veterinarian needs to monitor the progress of your pet's preventive program, so regular dental checkups are essential just as twice yearly checkups are for people.

We've been bringing our kitties here for nearly 20 years. One passed several years ago and I called recently as her 19 year old sister was refusing wet food (an unusual circumstance). After explaining the situation and my concern, the receptionist told me in an affectless voice rheir next opening for an appointment was approximately 6 weeks out. No opportunities for an emergency visit in the next 24-48 hours? "Nope." Beyond done with this bureaucratic, uncaring place.

This is a great vet. They have great availability, kind staff and affordable care. We took our dog in for a visit for stomach problems about a month before he needed his vaccines. When we came back to get his vaccines they didn't charge us for the exam fee, only the shots. My dog can also be fear reactive and they also always make sure to go slow with him and have plenty of treats to make him feel comfortable. So happy I found this place!

We recently rescued a dog. The process to get the appointment set up was quick and simple. We had to wait a couple weeks, but that's not a problem. On the day of our appointment, the staff were warm and friendly. Everyone was thorough and willing to answer questions. Both myself and my dog felt comfortable the entire time; he was happy to score a few treats while we were there. Overall, had a wonderful experience.

The old doctor was really great and nice, but the new doesn't know anything. First we checked some bumps, that she told me "doesn't look good" and needs surgery. And then she finds a murmur in her heart so they said they needed blood work to check her thyroid cuz she couldn't have thyroid cancer as well. So I say ok let's do the bloodwork, she leaves for 45 min and finally comes back saying she e couldn't get blood drawn so you can come again tomorrow.
So not only did I wait forever but she tells me 5 different ways my pet could be dying, but oh yeah we're not in any rush to treat her. If you were in the hospital dying and they couldn't get a vein so they tell you welp I guess you gotta leave and we'll try again another day. Seriously they give no fucks about your pets, they're just Pets to this business, not a family member.

New to the area and called with questions on scheduling for a cat with new GI issues. After asking my questions about general appointment scheduling was told the next appointment would not be available until the last week of November. Asked if that is still the case if my cat is currently having GI issues and she receptionist said yes. I understand many places are overwhelmed with appointments, but at no point did the receptionist even ask any questions about my sick pet. My pet could be very ill, but no probing questions to triage my pet for even an emergency clinic recommendation.

The team at Animal Medical Clinic took great care of my cat post-surgery. They kept him for 2 days after surgery to ensure a successful outcome, and I was shocked to see that the cost of the 2-night stay was really, REALLY affordable! I was expecting to see 3 figures for a 2-night stay, but it was a low 2-figures, instead. Whew! They clearly love animals, and took wonderful care of my boy. They followed up to make sure he was back to himself a few days later, also. Fantastic care!

Absolutely unprofessional I was instructed to hold my dog down with one hand and use my other hand to hold the needle for the iV while the the main vet sat there and squeezed the IV bag her assistant stood there with an expression of distress and concern ( did not act or assist with this ). Where is it common practice to have the dog owner hold the dog down and hold the needle in place with the other hand!?!?!?
Keep in mind my dog is extremely submissive and was NOT putting up a fight. ( iV was for dehydration from puking and diarrhea for 2 days ) The bag squeezer had to readjust the needle twice. She pulled the hair on the dog. she did not grab deep for the extra skin. She pulled on the ends of my dogs hair out far enough to readjust the needle. This was one of three issues I experienced at this unprofessional clinic.
I was told to not be surprised if she does not drink any water the rest of the night because the iV will hydrate her. As soon as we got home my dog drank over 12 oz. Of water immediately she weighs 53lbs but weird how she was still so thirsty even after the iv. Regardless The service provided was unprofessional and disappointing. This is 1 of the 3 issues I experienced at this clinic in my first time visit.

This clinic is fantastic. They saw us on very short notice for 2 of our pets, and were knowledgable. They figured out things our other vet could not. They are very professional, give you lots of info on paper to take with you, and we had found them very affordable. Dr. Whitman is our favorite but they are all great.

I have taken my Westie, here for 3 years since we moved into the area and have always had great care. My pup had a seizure 2 years ago and while the vet could not do too much for him they saw him right away and talked me through everything. When he had possible liver issues the vet and techs answered all of my questions. Also, he is a walking allergy and the vet tech Sabra was absolutely amazing recommending different foods, and options to try. She is great with customers and pets!

My cat suffered abuse in the past, and he's incredibly skittish now. Going to the v-e-t is a scary day for him. It's a great comfort knowing that when he goes through the stress of a doctor's visit, he's in the compassionate and professional hands of the kind folks at the Animal Medical Clinic. They are truly lovely people.

My bulldog slipped a disc in his back, it was terrifying not knowing what happened to him. I called Animal Medical and they got me in right away. Dr. Luke and Sabra identified the problem right away. Finn was prescribed some light meds and a recommendation for some low calorie food and he was back to normal in no time! Plus he lost 10 lbs over the last few months! They did a great job and I will definitely be returning!

I disagree with the other reviewer (so far). This vet clinic isn't the flashiest or the cheapest, but I certainly wouldn't call it overpriced and I do not have major complaints about the service we've received there. I DO agree that the front desk staff can be a bit unprofessional. On my most recent visit, it was a couple of minutes before I was even acknowledged.
I understand that sometimes a front desk can be a bit busy when you have people checking in, checking out, the phone ringing and animals making things even more crazy. But a quick "Hi, I'll be with you in a minute" would be plenty to satisfy me in terms of customer service. I also overheard one of the front desk staff say an obscenity to another staff member.
I don't think anyone was in the lobby at the time besides staff, but I heard it through the closed door of our exam room. On the plus side, I really like the vets and the medical staff of this facility. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and very willing to answer all of your questions. They don't rush you and they take the time needed to treat your pets.
They are also very thorough. Even if you are there for one thing, they will notice and mention other things they see or notice. They are very patient and kind to our animals, which is appreciated. We have found their advice and care to both be spot on. They are also very good about asking me before they do something to my dogs, which I also very much appreciate as a protective pet mommy. So four stars for the medical staff and three stars overall, with room to improve. Hope to update this one soon.

We had taken our puppy here for treatment shortly after we got him last year. First, the person at the front desk was extremely rude to us. The vets seemed alright, but when we explained how our dog hurt his foot, they seemed to imply that it wasn't likely and that we had hurt him in some way. We love our dog and would never hurt him. Oddly, on a Saturday when he needed to have a bandage rewrapped, we called them and asked if we could bring him in quickly because it had fallen off.
They said that they couldn't see him because they were closing in fifteen minutes. I explained that we live five minutes away and would be there very fast, and they still told us to go someplace else or to come back on Monday. We went to Banfield and never went back. Their prices are very high, the support staff is rude, and I generally felt uncomfortable tension in their office from the first time we went there. I would not recommend this place at all. Try Banfield for good service at a marginally higher price.
