Pet store has gotten a little better. Lots of room for improvement. Always seems difficult to get help in fish department. Cashier line can be long with generally only one register open. I do like that they take charge cards now. All in all not my first choice of tropical fish supply store. They have way better dog and car food and supplies

This review is from 2020 - I brought my dogs here for a regular check up. I had 2 pit bulls at the time. One of my pitbulls had a lump on his groin area that was growing and bleeding. We brought this up and we're recommended that we remove it and send it out to get tested. No hesitation, we absolutely did that! It came out to $1200 total and we were told that it was cancer.
The doctor we saw at our appointments was a shorter, older gentleman. He was cold during our conversations, like this was an everyday thing. Well maybe to him but not to us. We never received a physical or digital copy of the results which should have been a red flag for me. We were told that it was aggressive and it could come back, which it did. Eventually, he got so sick we had to put him down.
Mind you, this is my childhood dog. I grew up with him. He was 13 years old and meant the world to me. We got the price for euthanasia and cremation. From what I remember, the options are to 1. cremate and leave the remains 2. Cremate with other dogs and receive the mixed ashes 3. Pay more for only your dogs ashes We made the appointment to euthanize and this is where it became a little traumatizing for me.
The doctor explained how it would work during the appointment. I don't understand how it happened but my dog did not have a peaceful reaction. He was shaking and making odd noises before he just stopped. The doctor didn't seem to care that Chato, my dog, was responding this way. I made a mistake going there and not checking out more places for a second opinion, I made the mistake of going back to euthanize my dog there, and I made the horrible mistake of not having my dog cremated on his own so we could keep his ashes.
For all of this, I'll always regret my decisions. Do not come here. They might not be the worst but for your fur baby, that's not food enough. Check out other clinics, demand a copy of all test results and an itemized bill. Be smarter than I was please.

Update to my dog's condition. We had to put our wonderful dog down. After many procedures of trying to widen her 10inch long strict filled esophagus we discovered the strict was too long to continue with cathode ballooning procedure as after working on one end to the other and numerous attempts the doctors found that the strict was closing after each attempt. Dr Bath, we thank you for the sympathy card that you and your staff have sent us.
We really do not want our dogs passing to be in vein. I hope our experience can be a lesson to both doctors and owners that dog vomiting it a serious issue and to always closely monitor your sick pets and log their behaviors and incidents. Dr Bath Please note that I no longer wish to volley responses back and forth. There were only two people and one dog in our presence to vouch if you ever recommended a test. My testimony would be a big NO you did not. In any regard I would never take any of my pets to your office. Thank you but no thanks.

Not really sure where all these other bad reviews are coming from, but I can comment on my own experience with this hospital while also taking into consideration my experience with other animal hospitals. I've had two hound dogs in my life, the second of which I still have. She is alive and WELL thank to Dr. Bathe and his family / staff at both Bloom Plaza and Alum Rock locations.
Thank you sir for your diligence and expertise. My first dog died because the vet (Acacia) failed to prescribe an ultrasound, which would have found the 8 piece of wood stuck in her belly. They only performed an x-ray and sent her home with antibiotics. My second dog ingested a small piece of plastic from a toy or otherwise, which at 1 year old, irritated her stomach causing intestinal intussusception, requiring immediate surgery.
The initial prognosis from Dr. Bathe indicated potential intestinal problems, so an x-ray was prescribed with ultrasound as either a follow up confirmation or detection of what an x-ray could not detect. As soon as my dogs condition was confirmed, she was scheduled for surgery within a day at Alum Rock animal hospital. The very friendly staff took her in with kind and welcoming arms, and they assured me she would be just fine post surgery.
I was notified immediately after the surgery was completed of their confirmation of her condition, provided images of the intestinal twisting (they offered if I wanted to see, to which I replied yes) and stated that she was doing just fine. I picked her up the next day, and she was wagging her tail in excitement when she saw I was there to take her back home.
I have always had a great experience with these folks and their staff. Excellent service and at fair market rates. I'll put it this way. If you want to hear the bad news unadultered but efficiently and quickly, go to Dr Bathe and his family. He spares no time for small talk and pleasantries, which personally I would be annoyed with if my pet's life is on the line. Every second counts.

We paid the puppy vaccination package, paid full in advance. We provided the previous vaccinations from the breeder. They recommend to just get all 3 vaccinations from them (not sure if this is appropraite) Up to this day, i'm not sure if we should duplicate or over-vaccinate. On the 2 occasions that we've been there, we haven't met the vet - only the front desk.
We have never met the vet up to this day. I understand it's pandemic but It would be courteous to talk to the vet during visits. Being a first time dog owner, i would think expect professional service and guidance, tips or advice on how we can take care of our growing puppy. For example, no forewarning was given to us that there will be lump after our first vaccine.
We had to google it if it's something concerning. I'm just waiting to complete all the vaccinations, but we'll most likely consider other vets. It would have been nicr and convenient as this is the closest vet from our house. PS, is there such a thing as over-vaccination? I'm afraid they'd give more than the appropriate amount of vaccination just to complete their puppy package - I'm willing to skip if it's unnecessary and have the vet keep the money.

I've been taking my dogs to this clinic for over a year now, and every time I bring them I spend at least $500. I've brought them here at least 4 other times. Today was their appointment to get neutered and spayed (I have a male and a female dog). My appointment was at 9:15am. I arrive to the clinic at 8:15am because I got a text and an email that said to arrive between 8-10am for the surgical admission. (I recently moved to Santa Clara but decided to leave them at the same clinic to not have to keep changing them doctors.) I call and Rosie answers the phone.
I let her know that I have arrived to drop off my dogs and she responds that my appointment isn't until 9:15am and tells me that the doctor is not in and I can't leave them there. I continue to tell her about the text and email that I received and she rudely responds the same thing. Then, she says that during "Covid" it was different, but that doesn't make any sense because it's still "covid" time?
I tell her that I live in Santa Clara and ask her if she wants me to leave and come back so she said, "it's up to you their appointment is at 9:15." So at this point i begin to feel annoyed because instead apologizing and saying that they have to fix their auto emails and texts she repeats herself and talks to me like I'm stupid. Yes, I understand and I know their appointment is at that time, but it's their mistake and she should at least be nice about it. Plus, I'm literally about to spend $1000 for both of them to get a surgery done so I would appreciate it if I would be talked to with a little more respect. I Will not be coming back

My dog has been coming here since she was six weeks old and I had no problem until now. I had my appointment at 4:45 and they came out at 4:56. Recently with COVID I understand the protocols but this is the worst they wanted to vaccinate my dog outside when she usually goes inside. One of the staff was rude and gave us attitude. The other lady in other hand was kind.

I had taken my cat there because he could not eat. Dr bath looked at him, took some tests and said I needed to change his food because this was caused by a problem with his kidneys and bring him back in 2 months if there was no change. I brought him back 2 months later with same problem at which time he finally looked in his mouth took a biopsy and I was told it was cancer.
Since I waited 2 months as instructed by doctor it was to late to save him. All the doctor had to do the 1st time was to look in his mouth. I guess it was to much work for the doctor to check him correctly in the first place. I should have taken him to a different vet when he misdiagnosed him with diabetes and almost killed him with insulin.

Our family adopted our first cat during Covid and Bloom Plaza was the nearest vet so we gave them a try. Their curbside check-in process is very easy and our cat had her annual vaccines and routine check-up. This past week our cat went in for teeth cleaning and the process was just as smooth as the first visit. Dropped her off in the morning (9:30 am) and chose what time to pick her up in the afternoon (3:30-5:00pm window). They gave detailed instructions for her aftercare and oral antibiotics. This location can get busy so they usually recommend making appointments 1-2 weeks in advance.

To be frank, it definitely took me awhile to me comfortable and ready to write a review that I personally don't want to. As any animal lover, it is very emotional to lose their best friend. Dr. Bath was my dog primary doctor ever since the first day I got my dog. For years, I would only take my dog to see Dr. Bath whenever he's sick and his annual checkup. Dr. Bath is VERY sweet and caring and even though my dog would get scared seeing him, I know that my dog is in good hands and I TRUSTED Dr. Bath.
Last year COVID situation had made it difficult for to see Dr. Bath and I'm sure that Dr. Bath was busy. Regardless, the point of having a family vet is to make sure my dog stays healthy. I don't think there should be any excuse that the Doctor can't even consult you when they can't take you in. I spoke to the office manager, and he WASN'T professional or friendly.
I don't even think he's an animal lover and question how is he working for a vet clinic? For 13 years straight, my dog was visiting ONLY Dr. Bath and during his last final days when I was trying to get help for my dog who fell ill, I was pushed out for weeks to get an appointment with Dr. Bath. I understand that the clinic was busy, but there's no phone consultation? What's the point of having a family doctor?
The office manager told me he can't do anything and that I need to go to the emergency room or wait for 2 weeks to see Dr. Bath. Dr. Bath knows my dog's condition and at this point taking my dog to any other clinic, they require him to get fully assessed. I called back to the clinic to ask for all of my dog's health documentation and they told me."Our computer is down and I cannot send you any information at the moment." Sorry for the profanity firstly. WT**?
How do you operate the office setting then? You're telling me, as my dog's primary doctor, to go see another clinic for help because you cannot help my dog and now you can't even provide me my dog's health documentation? You can't even tell me that you will follow up with me once your computer is fixed? Clearly, I don't know how professional the office manager is but he seemed pretty unprofessional and not compassionate to me.
He could have offered me a call from Dr. Bath to consult my dog and understand the urgency of my dog in need but instead NO.Anyways, couple of days later my dog died and it was definitely not in the care of Bloom Plaza Animal Hospital, which claims to be compassionate and caring. I did get a new dog and in search of a new vet that is more compassionate, especially if that vet is my dog's primary physician.will I come back to Bloom Plaza Animal Hospital after 13 years being their regular and value customer and nothing but good words about Dr. Bath? No.clearly NO.Not sure how they select their employee but as an animal lover and dog owner, I feel unhappy and upset after years being committed to only go here and only to know this place turned away when my dog was falling ill. As to the office manager, I think you should find a new job that's suitable for you and not in a vet clinic setting.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Bath for the past 20 years, I am having a difficult time getting a prescription refill, his receptionist Rosie told me yesterday that if I do not purchase the medication from his office for double what I can get it for at Costco, that he will not refill without several blood tests.in other words pay double from me no blood tests necessary.
I asked for a call back from Dr. Bath, no response. Very disappointed in his lack of compassion, he does not seem to value my business anymore. Sadly I don't think I can trust him anymore with the care of my precious pup Alice.

This place is not staffed with experienced technicians. We have taken our cat there for several years and had her nails clipped there at least once. We had an appointment to get her yearly shots, nail clip and flea/tick treatment. They did the shots and brought her out and said she was too Nervous and they didn't want to do it at that time. So we re-scheduled And took her back today, and this time they said she swiped her paw at the tech?
What the heck? She weights 11 lbs is an old cat, she is very playful but not aggressive. I will not go back there. Also when I spoke to the manager, he was angry and spoke loudly, like he was stressed out and told me they are a hospital not a grooming place. BUT they were the ones that scheduled that appointment, so why offer the service if you dont want to do it? BAD advertisement, when you offer service and then complain and wont perform it.

My dog was seen here 3 times. Misdiagnosed with eye infection/ulcer. He received 3 different types or medication after the first one made him worse. Eventually his other eye started getting bad so we took him to an eye specialist and he was diagnosed with glaucoma. He now needs both eyes removed. Had this been caught early, we could have saved one eye and slowed the progression of the other. Wasted $300 on nothing

Will never come back to this clinic. Not caring doctor, front desk is not very nice. Is expensive and is not affordable like on the street poster advertising. My dog is itching and the doctor Just check her for less than 2 mins and cost me $50 without any treatment yet. My dog is very small and gentle but The doctor holding my dog very rough and harsh. Not a good experience. If there's zero rating, i would give a zero for this clinic as a whole. :

My neighbors recommended me here and I couldn't be more satisfied! First visit when my dog was a puppy was great! - and now when I thought he had a foxtail and was super worried they took care of Him. I went to the Santa Teresa Emergency and they wanted to do a procedure right away. I highly recommend this place! - They are awesome!

The vet is quick and efficient. My dog is always greeted with lots of love and affection, and the front desk is knowledgeable. My family has been using these guys for years, so I figured I would as well. I haven't yet been unsatisfied with the service, so I plan to come back. Thanks to all your help!

To give you a bit of background into my overall experience with veterinary services, I previously had a beautiful Bluetick Coonhound pup, Paisley, who was so loving and playful, honestly the best dog ever. Back then, I wish I had known about Bloom Plaza Animal Hospital. Sadly, she passed away after eating a bamboo cooking skewer, which could have been detected, but the vet clinic I had at the time, Acacia Pet Clinic off Branham Ave and Pearl Ave in San Jose, chose to not give her an ultrasound and only an X-ray. Unfortunately, X-rays do not detect organic material such as a bamboo skewer, and Dr. Jolissaint sent Paisley home and instructed me to wait out her symptoms. Dr. Jolissaint explained that they did not recommend an ultrasound due to "customer sticker shock" which is in my opinion completely ridiculous.
I feel that was just a cover up for a mistake on their part, and every owner should be given every option in order to make a sound and educated choice. Paisley slowly got better, then she got worse and suddenly passed away. It turned out that the skewer had punctured her stomach and caused massive internal bleeding that was so quick and sudden, there was no saving her. Had I been given the option of an ultrasound, I absolutely would have accepted an ultrasound test, which would have saved my Paisley.
I add all of this detail to say that one of the first questions I had for Bloom Plaza was: in the event of a stomach bloat or pain issue, what are the tests you would immediately recommend for the pup? Answer: x-ray AND ultrasound, especially if the x-ray did not show any signs of obvious problems. I now have a 1 year-old Bluetick Coonhound, Leila, from the same family, and she is equally, if not more, beautiful and loving and caring than Paisley. Bloom Plaza is staffed by an excellent vet doctor who is sharp and very knowledgeable, no BS, doesn't try to sugar coat anything, because it very well could mean the life or death of your pet. Moreover, the nursing staff has always been kind and gentle to Leila (and they were kind and caring to me when I brought Paisley in for her necropsy).
Every time I bring Leila in, they smile and greet her, give her treats, pet and play with her, making every minute of the experience as joyful and exciting as possible. It really makes it easy to take Leila in, given that she has memories of good experiences at Bloom Plaza, despite the shots and examinations. I will be going back to Bloom Plaza for the lifetime of my Leila, and I highly recommend other pet owners do as well.

Dr. Bath and his staff are life savers. PetCo paralyzed our dog after a routine nail clipping and we were a wreck when we took him into Bloom Plaza Animal Hospital for treatment. Everyone was very helpful and understanding. They helped with the treatment and the paperwork with PetCo. They also gave great advice on how to make a DIY leg sling for physical therapy. After several treatments and PT sessions our chiweenie is now able to partially walk again. Bloom Plaza Animal Hospital are lifesavers.

I called my Veternarian; advised my dog is not breathing. Emergency I stated, receptionist said doctor out lunch and take him to another Veternarian. My husband and I were frantic driving for at 30 minutes; had doctor took time away from his lunch would of been 5 minutes from their hospital, My dog might of made it, With my beloved dog dying in my arms.
I made it to Oakwood Veternarian; my dog Jeter passed away. I am not the only client this has happened where doctor had pets suffer or in my case die, because his lunch is more important

Very unfortunate the the store manager is so blind or just doesnt care about tropical fish department. This lack of leadership has been going on for a very long time. Even with zero knowledge about fresh or saltwater fish there is no excuse. Basic wiping down and cleaning g isnt a rocket science. Put away all the hoses and mop but lets that are trip hazards and seem to be out every time.
The ccx salt spray build up has never been cleaned. The tropical fish department is a disgrace and how corporate isnt aware of what goes on is beyond me. I would not add any fish to my fresh ir salt tanks from their's. Such great potential for somebody with motivation. Wake up Pet Smart.

My family and I have been going here for years. Overall ok vet place & convenient location. Receptionist seemed rush to get off phone and it took awhile for her to explain all the services I was looking for my pet. Dr. Bath's hospital has been here forever! Family has been seeing them since the 90's.
