Dr. E grew up on a cattle farm in southern West Virginia where barn cats and calves were her pets. After ten years of general veterinary practice, she established The Cat Hospital of Fairfax, Inc. in 1991, in order to focus on feline care. In addition to cats and calves, Dr. Ellison has a passion for football, especially college football.
Our mission is to enable you to look forward to years of reliable veterinary care and trusted professional advice that will help your cat to look better, feel better, and live longer. We hope this visit is the beginning of a long-term relationship between you, your cat, and the family of The Cat Hospital of Fairfax, Inc.
We have an experienced team at The Cat Hospital of Fairfax, Inc. that is knowledgeable about other routes of administration such as transdermal gels (these are applied to bare skin such as the ear flap), flavored treats, medi-melts, mini-tabs, pill pockets of all flavors and consistencies, long-acting treatment injections under the skin, prescribed daily injections under the skin that we teach owners to give, transdermal patches, and techniques for making medication administration a more positive interaction with the owner.

I feel it's weird that over 2 years they are still doing curbside and even when outside they act like the germs will float to their masked face. I think they expected me to wait in the car for the half hour or however long it took the vet to see my cat- I didn't because I was 3 miles away. I loved that the doctor talked to me at length about the problem with my cat's eye, so the immediate need was fulfilled.
They were able to get the electronic records from my vet out in Haymarket so that was cool. But having said that, they said he has alopecia on his stomach. Which is not the case bc my cat is an extreme licker from day one of the 9 years I have had him. So I definitely appreciated the speed with which they were able to see my baby, just some things they probably need to refine to make it worth the $195 one time visit. Overall would recommend.

We have been bringing our cats to Dr. Ellison for 10 years. She has always been really caring and willing to work with us as far as the care of our cats goes; she gives you all the options but doesn't push you if, for instance, you're not willing to resort to invasive measures. When she has lab work done, she calls and/or sends detailed emails with the results and what they mean, and her recommendations.
She always follows up after procedures or medication changes to make sure the cat is doing well. We have not always been fond of the other doctors she's had in the practice over the years. Not that the others are bad, but usually they don't stay around very long, and Dr. Ellison knows our cats very well. As has been mentioned before, the big downside is that she's pretty expensive. But we think she's worth the money.

My 10-year old cat was treated here for periodontal disease and under the gum cleaning which we had unfortunately put off too long. Dr. Janet Ellison was recommended to us by the AAFP.org (American Assoc. of Feline Practioners) and by another cat-only vet in another state. The appointment was professionally handled by Terri who is a cat-lover and former breeder. Dr. Janet's exam of our cat was thorough; she and her team provided pre-operation lab work and a physical.
The entire practice cares about cats; you will feel this instinctively as you look around the office's extremely clean setting and which is decorated inside and out with felines. The professionalism is not just superficial. Their technician Sasha and anesthesiologist Mandy performed their roles smoothly. We were informed when our cat "Baby" was under anesthesia and were informed when one tooth had to be removed.
The doctor herself called personaly. We were very pleased with our choice, with the favorable outcomes and by the concern and professionalism exhibited with the procedure. Our cat will be examined 2 weeks after the procedure. We were told how to keep up the cat's oral care with an oral wash since our cat does not like to have her teeth brushed. I recommend that you have your cats treated at this practice for preventive and diagnostic care.
