Oakton-Vienna Veterinary Hospital

We just moved to Vienna and started transitioning our 3 pups from their old vet to this practice. The vets, waitstaff, and assistants are all very kind, and the practice overall is hyper-communicative, in a good way. There is never a wait, the phone is always answered, and they do every effort to squeeze in your pet whenever is best for you. Only reason I'm knocking off a star -- we had just moved to town and brought our pups in.

We had not yet registered our dogs with the town of Vienna. Someone from this practice reached out to the town and let them know we moved in and hadn't registered our dogs, resulting in a letter from the town. Having lived in DC, Arlington, other parts of Fairfax, and Alexandria, I had never had this happen before -- it seems like a major violation of privacy. Edit: bumping it up to 5 stars since this is apparently a Fairfax law. Bummer.

As an update, we have also seen Dr. Megremis. She is also super and I highly recommend her as well! We saw her when one of my pups had a skin issue. She was very thorough, gentle, and knowledgable. She was able to quickly diagnose the issue and prescribe appropriate meds. She also followed up with us several times which I really appreciated. Again, everyone at this place is top notch!

I'm considering actually switching to OVVH as our regular vet now even though they're out of my way because I am super impressed by their customer service, the ease of using their website, and the level of detail in the visit summaries. Firstly, when I call, an actual human picks up right away--no "press 1 for xyz" prompt I have to sit through.

That alone is so nice, because there have been multiple times I was on hold with my regular clinics 20+ minutes before a human talked to me. Secondly, when I arrived, I was immediately shown to a room and a tech was with me right away--I hadn't even sat down. And thirdly, they give summaries of your visit. I feel like this should be standard practice everywhere, but it's not! It's very helpful, especially when I have a dog like mine that's been seen many times for many things and I need to remember when he had something looked at (at Pender, they only give invoices now.

Not even a current weight or list of upcoming vaccinations due like they used to. So i have to search through invoices and guess what he had done based on the prescription or test that's on the itemized bill). One of my photos shows my visit details. I went for the first time today as a new patient with my senior dog, Hambone, whose "regular" clinic is Pender (both Fairfax and Chantilly).

I found OVVH after doing a Google search for dog allergists, as Hambone has been having some pretty bad skin odor, flaking, and crusting, and has been gnawing at his paws, shaking his head a lot, and rubbing his head into the ground, and I wanted to get a second opinion other than my primary vet. I tried other allergy specialty clinics but they are either not taking any more patients, put me on a wait list, or the head doctor is retiring!

As for the actual issue with Hambone: after years of trying Atopica and Apoquel and Malassezia wipes and chlorhexidine shampoos, it only just recently occurred to me to see if Hambone has any allergies--I took the rescue org's word for granted when they said he didn't have any, but I'm having a hard time believing it's nothing, especially as there's no paperwork backing it up, which is typical of a rescue.

The allergy panel was $340, the exam was $101, and the medicines are about on par with what I've paid in the past through other clinics (if you can get prescriptions sent to chewy or 1800petmeds, it's cheaper). He also had a terrible mat behind his ear that ended up actually being infected, and they sedated him to get that removed. The bill may look high, but for everything I got done, it's fair & reasonable for the area.

The vet, Dr. Jones, seems to know the local vets at other clinics such as Hope Center and the specialty clinic in Springfield, which is neat and gives me the sense that she has been in this industry for a while. I was given a treatment plan for Hambone's issues, which tells me they do look long term instead of just visit-by-visit; the latter has made me feel like my dog starts and stops existing with each visit.

A treatment plan on the other hand tells me OVVH will know what to do next on their own instead of me having to call and remind them. While they ran their tests and did their procedures on Hambone, they gave me an estimated wait time of 40 minutes, and they let me leave to go get food (I hadn't eaten lunch and it was about 3pm) and then come back.

I feel like if I did that at Pender, they would forget who I was within ten minutes of me leaving. OVVH was just so friendly and approachable. I've had a habit of just going to the vet clinic closest to my residence--which has been Pender for the last 3-4 years (and Falls Church Animal Hospital for a couple years before that). However, given the great customer service, detailed record keeping, and general staff affability, I am seriously considering switching to OVVH as my regular vet!

We are a longtime Oakton-Vienna Vet family for both our cat and our dog. We have had great care from each vet and tech we have seen and really appreciate the front desk staff as well. Highly recommend!

Update for Jan 2022 -- our 13 year old maltese has been a regular patient of Dr Jones for many years for regular and sick care, with the only exception being an after-hours severe injury that required emergency surgery. She is extraordinary and has the touch of a Dr Doolittle. She is able to examine our anxious little guy and calm his shaking body down.

He fully trusts her. She follow ups with telephone calls to check on him after a visit. He was recently ill and because of her treatment, he is all better. The techs and office staff are great. Very responsive and always friendly. I continue to highly recommend!

Because the love of my life works hard at Oakton-Vienna to help her four legged clients and their owners! Go Dr. "M"! This could be considered a tad biased but I have been married to her for over 30 years and observed it personally.

I am very selective and involved in the care of my dogs. I have been very impressed and happy with OVVH. I feel like I have finally found THE ONE of veterinary care! Everyone there has really exceeded my expectations. Literally everyone from all the ladies who have answered the phones to the vet techs to the doctor we've seen have consistently been caring, kind, professional, and extremely competent.

They are very responsive and actually want to help you. They really care and always make an effort to accomodate us. I truly feel valued as a client there and can't rave enough about everyone there. As for specific doctors, we have only been seeing Dr. Jones. She is very patient, always answers all my questions, and truly listens to my concerns.

She is wonderful. The office and rooms are clean and feel welcoming. The staff is always organized and prepared, knowing our names/ who's arrived for their appointment and warmly greet us upon entering. I also appreciate that they are very transparent about pricing/ cost of services. They always discuss the estimated costs with me early on during the office visit. I absolutely recommend this veterinary hospital!

I had such a lovely experience with Oakton-Vienna Veterinary Hospital last evening. They helped me in a bind w/ my cat and gave her great care in a time of need. They fit me in as a new patient at 7pm same day because she was really struggling and I couldn't get an appointment at my old vet. Ariana on the support staff, Melissa the vet tech and Dr. Jones the vet could not have been more empathetic, thorough and helpful. Highly recommend.

I can't say enough good things about the staff and Veterinarians at Oakton-Vienna Veterinary Hospital. The front desk service is consistently warm and kind. They are patient and on point which is so appreciated. We have had two unfortunate medical emergencies with our pets and Oakton-Vienna was quick to get us in to see the doctor. They treated our beloved pets with care and compassion. They are also very fair with pricing compared to other Veterinary Hospitals in the DC area.

We've taken all of our pets here -- 2 cats and 3 dogs over the years, some with ongoing health issues. We love the care they provide. It is expensive, which can be a challenge, but in the end we've decided it is worth it. We've appreciated their willingness to discuss treatment options.

Dr. Jones is an amazingly caring, compassionate, and understanding vet and provided exceptional care to our wonderful dog throughout her entire life. Dr. Jones provided thorough information about what to expect, gave us realistic expectations, and plenty of reassurances while treating our girl over her 16-year life. We could not have been happier with our vet choice all those years ago as new pet parents and highly recommend Dr. Jones and all the other vets and staff at OVVH!

I've been bringing my dogs to OVVH for many years. When I adopted a retired racing greyhound 3 years ago, I was happy to see that my regular vet, Dr. Christmus, was listed as a greyhound specialist. He always goes over and beyond to ensure compassionate care for my anxious boy, and to find solutions to various challenges. The entire staff are also very kind and happy to assist.

Dr Jones is an amazing vet. She's patient, kind and professional. It's obvious that she loves animals and is also good with people so you will love her bed-side manner. Genesis is a sweetheart. Overall I love this practice-customer for life!

We went in for our pups first appointment and would definitely recommend OVVH to everyone! The staff from check in to clinical were absolutely amazing and friendly. Took my cat to this veterinary hospital for wellness checks and treatment of a condition. Pros: 1. The staff and doctors are nice, especially to my cat! They were careful when performing tests on my cat, I believe the blood drawing and medicine injection did not hurt because my cat didn't meow like he normally does whenever he feels uncomfortable. 2.

I did some research and read a few papers before came to them. The doctor didn't offer any over-treatment during our visit, and her advice is professional to my best knowledge. 3. They were very efficient, we didn't have to wait. Cons: A little pricy compared to other hospitals around this area

Dr. Jones and Dr. Christmus and the team of professional and caring technicians take care of my two St. Bernards. They are patient, kind, and take time to answer all of my questions. They even helped me find the best price on pet medication. Their diligent care has helped my animals live with the most joy and the best health into older age. I sleep better knowing that this team cares for my dogs.

I have been a client since around 2005. My rescued pets have always been in very good hands. This hospital pays attention to detail as well as patients questions and concerns. I feel very comfortable taking my pets here. The prices are reasonable; especially compared to other hospitals. My pets, a Bichon Frise and a Cairn Terrier, were in excellent care with Dr. Jacquelyn Jones and lived long and healthy lives.

They passed over the Rainbow Bridge, at ages 15 and 14. She was able to help me through a very difficult time and I'm very grateful to her. She and the entire office were extremely kind to me and I'll never forget them. Just recently I adopted a new pet from a rescue not knowing much about him, other than he came from a "High Kill Shelter" in Kentucky.

He had an emergency and I took him to Hope Center Hospital ER (as it was after hours). I was given medication and unfortunately their X-ray machine was inoperable. I took my pet to Oakton Vienna (as advised by Hope ER). My pet was able to get an appointment with Dr. Blevins (and his tech Steffy), during a very busy and hectic time (COVID). He was very professional, polite and knows what he's doing.

He was able to diagnose my pet immediately and was kind enough to follow up with me the next day (when I knew he was extremely busy). I'm so thankful to him and so is my pet! He's doing so much better now! (I am now going to follow up with Dr. Jones as previously scheduled). It was a hectic time-people were going back to work (COVID), people were trying to make Vet appointments, we just had a horrible storm which caused major power outages and it was well over 99 degrees that week.

The staff-the Doctors, Techs, and the front office (NICOLE, Kelsey, Megan, etc.), were extremely patient and calm-working like a well oiled machine to help us deal with what was going on! The type of services Oakton Vienna Veterinary Hospital offers, the excellent doctors, the hard work of the office staff, professionalism, keeping up with Social Media, all point to a successful business! I would highly recommend Oakton Vienna Veterinary Hospital for the love and care of your pet!

I can only speak on one visit, but it was probably the best experience I've had with a vet. My puppy was not looking good, so Dr Blevins took the time to sit and chat with me, explore my options, and facilitate the appropriate care. I plan on continuing to bring my fur baby there. Thank you for your time and attentiveness Dr Blevins. Also, major shoutout to the employees for your professionalism, caring manner and help as well.

All done super efficiently and as always the staff and Dr Chrismus were kind and professional. He is very knowledgeable about all the various dog foods and helped us adjust Archie's diet.

The staff, from the front desk, vet techs and doctors, are kind and helpful. Dr. Christmus spent time answering any questions and providing thoughtful recommendations for the past 12 years. When treatments didn't work he took time to research other options. My dog recently had to be euthanized and Dr. Christmus was gentle and compassionate, making a very difficult time peaceful.

I really love this office. My frenchie sees Dr. Jones and she is great with handling him and answering my millions of questions. I am a first time puppy owner and was overwhelmed with all the things puppy need, but Dr. Jones provided a schedule and information so that I was well informed of next steps. I also like that I can go inside with my pet while following COVID precautions. The front desk team is great and welcoming as well. Overall a great office and personable team.

I've trusted Oakton-Vienna Veterinary Hospital with my pets for many years, and always highly recommend them to my friends and clients. I know that everyone there truly cares about my dogs and cats, which is apparent from the moment we walk through the door. Kelsey in particular makes us feel so welcome, and always goes the extra mile to help in between appointments, such as following up with prescriptions and tracking down rabies certificates that are necessary to register for county dog tags. It's nice to have a veterinary clinic where my pets and I feel so valued, and I can always tell by my dogs' wagging tails and my cats' calm demeanors that they like being there.

Dr. Jones and staff have been taking care of both our pups (both rescues) as of about 6 years ago and they are amazing with our fur babies. We highly recommend everyone at Oakton-Vienna Veterinary Hospital! Thank you!

My experience was just great! I wish I had never left Dr. Jones and Christmus @8 years ago. I only left due to the costs of services. I could no longer afford those particular costs for two dogs. I've always wanted to come back and I'm glad I did. Dr. Jones is taking the best care possible for my pet and I really appreciate it. He is very elderly and I'll, and she is working with me closely to take the best care of him and ease my tensions. I'm glad to have returned and wish I'd never left. It's really nice to have consistent doctors, and great doctors that know what they are doing!

We recently visited the vet office with our adopted rescue cat that came from horrible conditions. The attention and care that she received has helped us to be more positive on her future. The doctor spent quite a bit of time with us to ensure all of our questions were answered. During this challenging time, we appreciate the time the doctor spent with us and the kindness of the staff. Update for January 2020- Still have only good things to say about this practice, and Drs Jones and Christmas. We have gone to this practice ever since we moved to the area in 2009. We see primarily Dr. Jones for our high-strung Maltese and prior jack russell terrier. She is a wonderful, amazing "dr dolittle" that has a magic touch. She is thoughtful and has personally followed up with phone calls after a sick visit! The office staff are personable and friendly. I highly recommend this practice!

We loved everything about our first visit to OVVH! Our 2 year old Golden Retriever has been dealing with some weird gastrointestinal issues that have proven to be challenging to diagnose. Dr. Christmus spent over an hour with us and listened to everything that's been going on with our pup. We never once felt rushed. He brainstormed with us all of the different things that could be going on with our dog and explained everything in laymens terms.

He helped us determine what our best course of action should be. We feel better having a solid plan and a better idea of what could be going on with him. Also, the office was very conscious about letting us know the price of each of the treatment plans they offered to us. Overall, we LOVE OVVH and Dr. Christmus and are happy to be a part of the OVVH family now. :

I worked as a vet tech for several animal hospitals, but was never fortunate enough to work with a vet like Dr Christmas. My family has been going to his practice for years and he has always been caring and. compassionate while treating our pets with his VAST wealth of knowledge and a great staff. I have been with them for 15 years. When I lost my Yorkie they were so gentle and kind. I immediately got another and she loves Dr Christmus. I was there today with Molly my new baby. She loves him too. We totally trust the whole clinic and what they stand for.

I took my 9 year old dog to see Dr. Christmus, after moving to the area about 18 months ago from Maryland. I had continued taking him to our vet in MD after moving here. Recently my dog started having issues that our old vet could not figure out after multiple visits and being prescribed different types of medication. I finally made the switch to oakton-Vienna vet for a second opinion, and could not be happier with the decision.kicking myself for not switching earlier.

Very friendly staff. My dog would always need a muzzle and could not wait to leave the office at his old vet.not only he didn't need a muzzle at oakton-Vienna, the tail was wagging and was not eager to leave the office by the time it was time to go home.

OVVH is the best vet clinic around! From the moment you walk in, the receptionists greet you and your pets warmly and by name. The vet technicians do a thorough history and discuss everything down to the pet's diet, which is such an important part of their health. The veterinarians are extremely thorough and are the best diagnosticians I've seen anywhere. I highly recommend OVVH!

The Vets and Staff at OVVH are incredible. We've worked with Dr. Christmus and Dr. Megremis for years now and are always happy with the care and attention they provide. They always answer every question and bend over backwards to help us with our pups. We have been going to OVVH for 15+ years now. Vet techs and front office are attentive and exceed every expectation. Flexible office hours are also appreciated.

I've been taking my pup to OVVH for her 13 years of life even though there are others much closer to home. Dr. Christmus has been her primary vet and he has always thoroughly explained everything and every option honestly. My pup likes him too. On a few occasions, I've had to take her in on emergency and she has seen Dr. Jones or Dr. Megremis, . who have also been very good with us. OVVH is always very good with my pup and always explains everything up front: procedures, what's being done that visit and why, cost estimate, etc.

The staff and "nurses" are always so nice as well. For me, it's worth the drive and a little extra money to see such great vets. Highly recommend OVVH, and specifically Dr. Christmus.

We took our 8 week old Shar Pei puppy Levi here for his first vet visit with us and saw Dr. Jackie Jones. She was very knowledgeable on the breed, and her and the staff there were very friendly. They gave us a clear breakdown of the costs before proceeding and explained everything. We recommend this place to everyone and look forward to bringing Levi here for the years to come!

I had to take my roommates puppy to the vet because she was really sick. When I called I told them I felt she really needed to see a vet today and they got her in that day. They took the best care of her, and explained everything to me. They took the time to call my roommate and explain what was going on. The vet even called the breeder to see how the other puppies in her litter we're doing. They were so honest and caring. We will definitely be bringing both our dogs here. Unfortunately, this wasn't the right place for us. I selected OVVH over other local vets due to their great reviews and favorable hours. However, it seems I made a mistake. After our initial consultation and a bill higher than I've ever seen from a routine office visit, I started to suspect things weren't right. Checking with other vets, my. suspicions were confirmed.

We were upsold at every turn with medications, treatments, tests - some of which were done without telling us beforehand or explaining the purpose, price, etc. I'm embarrassed as it seems I was taken advantage of for being a first-time pet parent I had plenty of pets growing up and often took them to our neighborhood vet, but.
