Dr. Goldfarb is an animal doctor who proudly served as an officer in the US army. After tours in Virginia and the Netherlands, Dr. Goldfarb returned to the US, and since 1974, he has been at Fairfax Animal Hospital. He purchased the practice in the mid-1980s and has watched proudly as it grew to become a long time staple of Northern Virginia's communities.

I recently adopted a young male rescue kitty, his name is Horace. We enjoyed his first Vet exam here at Fairfax Animal Hospital because the staff were so welcoming and helpful. I got him microchipped. The Vet came out after Horace's examination to discuss how she evaluated his great health report. She gave me some helpful reading suggestions about behavioral issues, because I expressed concerns about Horace's fearful mannerisms at home.
I had adopted him only 2 weeks ago and he had been hiding from everything at my apartment. I am happy to say that Horace is slowly becoming less afraid and happier. The hospital has done a great job adapting to digital services. Their website is very responsive to my emails. I received one after our visit advising me of a prescription to treat a mild case of digestive trouble, which I picked up that day for Horace. I'm feeling confident and reassured as the days go by that Fairfax Animal Hospital has helped Horace overcome some of his fears.

My furbabies have been clients of Fairfax Animal Hospital for too many years that I have lost count. I consider Dr. Goldfarb the godfather of animals. He and the other Vets have treated my pets, both dogs and cats over the years as if they were their own; especially during those sad end of life times. Everyone I come in contact with, from the receptionists to the assistants to the doctors, show compassion and only want the very best for the animals.
The Vets will do everthing possible to make sure your pet receives the best care to insure quality of lilfe. I now have 2 young cats; one from local shelter and now a new member who was a stray, but a stray no more. My sincere appreciation and thanks to the entire Faifax Animal Hospital staff.

Had kind of a rough start with difficulty getting an appointment as a new client. When we did finally get in, i was scared my rescue dog wouldn't go back to the room without me, but success. Kind and professional staff and superior veterinarian. So happy to have persisted to get in here. It's really great once you get established. Reasonable prices and thoughtful, intelligent approach to complex issues.

Their vets are fine, but many try to upcharge you by recommending costly testing for very minor issues. They also have done away with supporting 3rd party suppliers like Chewy for all prescription drugs (Next Guard, Heart Guard, etc). Now you have the choice of paying significantly more through them or you have to get a paper prescription and mail it to the supplier of your choice. Their anti-consumer practices are starting to add up.

We recently moved to the area, and after careful research, chose Fairfax Animal Hospital to care for my two dogs. One of my dogs had a medical emergency recently, and I could not have asked for better, more compassionate care than Dr. Goldfarb and his staff provided that anxious evening. I highly recommend everything about this practice, and look forward to a long relationship with them.

I've been taking my kitty here since 2013. The team, though it has changed over the course of the years which is to be expected over the course of 7+ years, has been great. They take wonderful care of my cat and in more recent years have gone more digital to make scheduling and following up more streamlined. Every doctor I've interacted with has been very professional and happy to answer my many questions. Would def recommend!

After trying several clinics in the area- my mom insisted I make an appointment to see Dr Irwin who treats one of her dogs- I had struggled to find a veterinarian who took the time to explain things until I finally listened to my mother! Dr Irwin was patient and thorough. I did not feel rushed whatsoever. She is knowledgeable and for the first time in a while I left feeling at ease.
The front office is pleasant. They are kind and as Dr Irwin, don't make you feel rushed. I've gone to several places and it has always felt chaotic. Thank you Fairfax Animal Hospital!

I really like and trust my vet, and many of the staff here are wonderful - this is not meant to disparage them. However, I have noticed some dysfunction, and believe they are overbooking. I understand things are busy now. However, I have called in twice now (on two separate occasions) with a sick puppy and each time been told they wouldn't be able to get her in for several weeks - this seems excessive, and many of my (pet owning) friends in the area agree.
I was also told by someone over the phone that they were unable to give my puppy antibiotics for what was very obviously a UTI until test results came back, 3-5 days later. I took her to the emergency vet (she was clearly in discomfort and I didn't want things getting worse) and she was immediately prescribed antibiotics, no waiting for the results to come back, & got better in 2 days - this makes me doubt the claim that giving me antibiotics before results came back was illegal/impossible, and it seems that my pet would have suffered unnecessarily.

After moving to this area just a few months ago, our brand new rescue pup was lost in the woods for 4 days. We were desperately searching for a vet to get him checked out when he was found and also to establish care for our other dog. After calling 6-7 other vets offices closer to where we live and being told there were no openings for 2-3 months, Fairfax was able to get us in the NEXT DAY.
We planned to make it a one-time visit and establish long-term care closer to our home, but the service they provided was so exceptional and reasonably priced that we will continue to use this vet for our long-term care. On another occasion, we were worried about an infected surgical wound, and they got us in the day-of and checked him out WITHOUT CHARGING US!
Most recently, the same dog had to undergo surgery for a retained baby tooth, and although the initial price estimate was around $800 for the extraction and teeth cleaning, only 1-2 of his teeth ended up needing cleaned, so they just took off the ENTIRE cost of the cleaning and we only ended up paying ~400. The vets and vet techs here are exceptionally kind and have really made our lives easy with our two dogs. I am so happy we ended up choosing this office for our boys!
