Services
Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties (PETS) is the oldest, independently-owned emergency and specialty hospital in Central Pennsylvania. Located in Lancaster, PA, PETS provides 24/7/365 emergency care for dogs, cats, and small mammals. We also work in conjunction with general veterinarians to provide care in a number of specialties including cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, and surgery. Our hospital is capable of handling any small animal emergency promptly and efficiently.
If your pet needs immediate medical attention for illness or injury and your regular veterinarian is not available, give us a call at 717-295-7387! We accept patients on a walk-in basis. No appointment is necessary, but we do encourage you to call ahead to give us your expected arrival time. Our doctors provide compassionate care for your pet and are capable of handling any illness or emergency situation. Please Note: Because we are an emergency clinic, we do not perform routine surgeries, vaccinations, dewormings, etc.
Your pet is a special member of your family that deserves quality care, no matter what their condition. If your pet requires care outside of your regular veterinarian's expertise, Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialities is here for you. Our specialists work in tandem with you and your regular veterinarian to find the best solutions for your pet's care. Our practice is focused on dogs, cats, and other small mammals.
Veterinary cardiologists diagnose and treat diseases of the heart and circulatory system. From congenital birth defect repair to medical management, pacemaker implants and advanced imaging, veterinary cardiologists work to extend the quality of life for pets young and old. If your primary veterinarian suspects your pet may have a heart condition, he/she may refer you to a board certified veterinary cardiologist like those on staff at Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties.

They helped my fur baby feel better. update this day we took her they did make her feel better only for us to have to return a week later because they did not run test and get blood work done. When we came back a week later we found how she was diabetic and now needs insulin. They had to keep her for 4 days to get her sugar down and see how she would react to the insulin dosage.
The staff is very caring with all the animals. I would recommend u to take ur fur babies to them just make sure you can afford them to take care of all there needs. Oh and don't cancel appointments they charge $100 but don't tell you you upfront about the fee.

If the unfortunate happens and you find yourself in need of a vet ER, this place is recommended. The staff was courteous, explained what was happening and when a bigger emergency came in before my pet was finished, they allowed me to go home instead of sitting in the waiting room for countless hours. They called several times to give updates and I even got to talk to the Dr over the phone.

Wonderful experience the staff was nice and even though we did lose our puppy, everyone was so nice and caring. You can tell the staff there loves animals. It did take a bit longer than the 10-14 days to get my puppy's ashes back but it's understandable the place cremating him got a little back up. We did get his ashes back and some beautiful memorabilia's.

I've had to take my German Shepherd mix pup to PETS twice, once when he was a puppy and recently at the age of 2yr after he swallowed a straight pin. The doctors and nurses at PETS were amazing and acted quickly to get the pin out of his stomach with a scope before it entered his intestinal track which may have resulted in surgery. He was home and bouncing around the same night.
I never got the feeling that this facility was trying to overcharge me or push for unnecessary surgery. They truly care about the animals. I have an ER Vet much closer to my home and I pass by that one to go to PETS which is almost 1hr away. Highly recommend!

I called early on a Saturday morning due to my small dog vomiting blood two times. The receptionist was super kind, helpful and knowledgeable and with her information based on my pups condition decided we could just observe her throughout the day (I am a nurse - so I felt confident with a joint decision) and am so glad they didn't make me feel like I had to rush in to be seen.
I appreciate not having to spend money when it isn't warranted. It's late afternoon and my pup is doing well, thanks to their help I was able to avoid an emergency visit that wasn't needed!

They are very sweet and helpful. I was just there on 1/20 to have my cat Snowball put to sleep due to the fact she was very sick. I have never had to do this before being she was my only cat and it was a very very hard decision to make. When I called to ask questions they were very helpful. When I had to go there to go through the process, they were caring and did not rush anything and let me and my daughter have some special time with her.
I was a complete mess and they were very patient. They even did paw prints for us. I got her cremated (private) and they explained that and answered all my questions I had and ensured me that I will have her ashes. I should be getting them back soon, :) Today I got the most sweetest sympathy card from them with the most sweetest saying on the inside. Brought tears to my eyes but warmed my heart. It is still very hard with here not here at home but I will have her home for good soon. Thank you to all the staff at the hospital!

The staff at PETS went above and beyond for my husband and I on many occasions this year with our elderly sheltie. They were nothing but professional, caring, sensitive, and just over all so compassionate when we had to make the hardest call of our life. Maggie went over that rainbow bridge on Monday, and it was so hard, but the staff at PETS truly helped us so much. They made us paw prints, gave us all the time we needed with our sweet girl, and they even sent us a beautiful sympathy card and poem. Thank you for your support this year.

Where would we be without people like these? Any job within an emergency vet practice has got to be incredibly difficult. It is something I could never do, as the emotional burden would overwhelm me, from not only the poor animals, but the upset and angry people too. Of course you could wait, sometimes a long time as they have to prioritize their most critical patients, plus the whole world is short staffed.
But these people chose to show up, and are doing the absolute best they can. Thank you to the girls at the front desk who were so sweet, especially Bailey. She constantly checked in on my Boston Terrier, Bacon (who had a severe eye injury), and gave me updates as to his status without me even asking. She was incredibly empathetic and kind, and those are the things you don't forget when you are scared, exhausted and emotional.
Thank you to the vets and vet techs that treated my little boy. And thank you once again to the girls up front who flocked to Bacons side and gave him so much love once he came out and saw that he got to go home. It was a long rough night, as it is for anyone walking through that door. But the kindness and care shown to me and my dog made all the difference.
We don't appreciate one another nearly as well as we could these past handful of years, but I can't change that. The only thing I can do is make an effort to show mine. So thank you all, I appreciate you! -Jenn P.S. Here is a picture of Bacon perched on top of his brother without his eye looking like it stepped out of a horror movie. One day he will look like this again!

When the bad day happened last Friday night and our sweet cat needed to be put down, Pet Emergency made the process a great experience. Their Doctor was comforting and allowed my husband to hold Bentley in her final hour. They even made us a paw print to remember her and mailed us the sweetest sympathy card. Highly recommended for emergency needs.

They saved my cat! They are amazing, sweet, compassionate, just everything your looking for if you pet needs an emergency visit. If I ever need emergency help again I'd definitely go there no second thought about it. My baby girl had an infection after being spayed somewhere else and they just did amazing! After a week of no food or water she's finally eating and drinking and coming up for love Blainey and I thanks you guys sooooo much!
