Haven Animal Hospital was established in 1993 by Dr. Barbara Bytwerk. A full-service small animal veterinary hospital, Haven Animal Hospital's team of friendly and experienced veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and support staff are committed to only the best in healthcare for your beloved pets.
Annual dental exams and cleanings are recommended to protect your pet from many health problems and help them maintain a healthy and clean mouth. Proper diet and nutrition can help your pet fight against disease, maintain a proper weight, and promote the overall well-being of your pet. Annual wellness exams evaluate your pets overall health, detect problems before they become serious, and keep them on track to live a long, healthy life.

I was so pleased with Haven. I had an urgent matter with my 15 year old dog and they graciously worked an appointment in for me. They did a wonderful job and got me everything I needed to help Charles. Appreciate their kindness and help.

Extremely nice staff. They are very caring and always call the next day to make sure everything is good. We recently left a message to cancel an appointment because we were taking our dog to get his leg fixed so did not need the follow up appointment. They called me just to make sure that cancelling our appointment meant he was getting in for the care he needed. They were excited to hear we got him in for his surgery.

Loved it here! My new doggo got a super bad ear infection and they were able to get us in same day being new patients. Fixed my boy right up and gave us so much information on every question I asked. Also got a on the house special, My son brought in his stuffy that got a boo-boo and the Dr. Fixed it right up also. Will definitely be going here for all pet needs! Thank you for the great service from everyone there

Very positive experience getting our golden retriever in in a timely manner. The vet thoroughly explained what was going on after running some tests. She made sure to answer all my questions and treated our Leo like her own. Definitely recommend!

We brought our kitty here today because she has been sick for a little bit of time. Our vet was closed (it is a Saturday) Dr Baughn and the rest of the staff was amazing with us. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who wants their pets to be treated by someone who truly cares!

It was a positive experience with the exception of I would of liked the receptionist who bought the bag to the car with my cat's medication in it (there were a few different kinds) to have reviewed them with me instead of just handing me the bag. It would be nice to have received a printed explanation or an email of her exam and what the treatment on her specifically was, medications prescribed, etc. Appreciated the follow up phone call the next day

The wait time between arriving in the parking lot and our animal being taken inside is extremely reasonable. The cost of services is great and I have never been surprised by any of our bills (including neutering!). Every interaction I have had with staff: from calling into the office or talking with technicians and doctors has always been pleasant and enjoyable. I've never been given the impression that my business is not valued. I highly recommend Haven Animal Hospital.

Third time here and it felt like chaos. Each time I called trying to get my pets treatment for worms there was confusion. I kept being told I didn't need to bring cats in just samples. Then it was I had to bring all pets. Then it was bring one cat. Once I finally get an appointment made and bring my cat the check in person was thinking he was a dog. after like 3 phone calls of me explaining the care that was needed.

I ended up having to wait a half hour past my check in and a half hour to get my pet after paying over the phone making me wait in my cold car a total of an hour and forty five minutes. Who can afford leaving their car run that long?. I know I sure can't. I was freezing the whole time. I called to check in and the phone just rang and rang. I saw employees leaving the building as it was minutes from closing time.

Still no cat. Then on top of it all I didn't receive all my medications and had to return today. The whole experience just felt underwhelming and expensive. When I nicely complained it felt disregarded and whomever I was on the phone with many times was just rude when I asked clarifying questions. Wish I could receive some sort of refund for all the stress, time and confusion. Records I gave for all three pets when transferring here this year also were not kept for one cat.

Now I'm told I was in the wrong on his records - even though I said both cats should be on the same schedule. Thinking about looking into other vets in the area at this point if not shown any sort of repayment for my troubles.

I came to Haven Animal Hospital because I was unable to get my dogs in anywhere else. I've been impressed with their care since day one. They are always kind, always ready to answer your questions, and they are very good at getting to the root of your pets problems. To the people saying they nickel and dime you, it's costly, etc. Yes, veterinary care is expensive, but they do not pressure you into anything.

You are ALWAYS given the choice to decline anything, and they always make sure you know the cost before you are charged AND they will make sure you are 100% sure that you are comfortable with your options. You are not FORCED to spend your money. I have a 9 year old golden retriever that has a constant sore on his paw. Every vet I've been too has chalked it up to allergies/irritation and sent me on my way. Haven offered me other options that eventually led to his diagnosis of what turned out to be some gnarly arthritis. Now with proper treatment my boy is running around like a brand new pup after all this time and enjoying his senior years!

I was a client at Haven Animal Hospital for nearly twenty years. For most of that time, I was thrilled with the care my pets received and the way that I was treated. I've had two animals I unfortunately had to have put to sleep at Animal Haven. The process was always professional, in large measure due to the past owner/veterinarian (recently retired).

She was a great gal. Her kindness and respect permeated the office space, from lobby to appointment rooms, the place just felt good. It doesn't feel that way anymore. I'm leaving and taking my critters with me. Recently I've found the staff to be rude. As a long time customer you'd expect that I would be treated with respect. You'd assume office personnel would listen to my needs, and do their very best to make sure that I was a satisfied customer.

I don't feel satisfied. The professional care is still good; but the face of the place is not. When ownership changed something comfortable about the Hospital went with it.

Cruel and inhumane to my dog. I am not allowed into the vets office due to covid and my dog is only a 6 month old puppy. They claimed they tried to give my dog shots and a blood draw and he tried to nip at the vet. So instead of going out the get me in the car, they slapped a muzzle on him instead of trying to take a break And try other methods to calming him down.

My dog had never bitten anyone. He has three kids at home he plays with everyday and we take him to a campground with tons of people and dogs. He's never hurt anyone; so, it was surprising to hear he would have nip at anyone. I wished they would have Come out to tell me instead of just doing that first. I did contact Gemma, the Hospital manager, whom stated they have to do what they have to do in order to get things done.

It appeared to me after the conversation that they just want to make money and that is there top priority, not the mental health and well-being of my puppy. If my dog was scared because I am not there, putting a muzzle on him will further make him worry and hate the vet more because they were so hasty with him. They told me on my phone their staff safety means the most to them. I guess my dog's well-being is not their priority. So, I am going to another office who will respect my pet and myself.

My pup was due for his annual vet visit and vaccinations while spending several months in Grand Haven, so I made an appointment at Haven Animal Hospital to make sure he was in tip top shape. Super friendly staff helped me book my appointment and gave me instructions on how to send his current medical records to them, all of which I did ahead of our appointment.

When I arrived, during the COVID pandemic, they were asking people to call when they arrived and they would come out, check you in, and take your pet inside for their check-up. This seemed to work really well. I arrived and called, and Caleb came right out and made sure paperwork was all filled out. He took my little guy inside and within 5-10 minutes the vet was calling me with an update.

Everything was super efficient and everyone was super nice. I received a follow-up email and I think I even got a phone call checking to make sure he was doing okay. SUPER HAPPY with the service, care and affordability.

These folks are just great. Cost effective, very friendly, accommodating and thorough. I'm in the area for the summers and they've been just great helping my pup get stable.

I just moved into town and had to find a place to board my pups. The love and attention my dogs received from Haven Animal Hospital was incredible! I received daily updates and pictures showing me that they were okay and doing great. I also had to get the dogs updated on their vaccinations and the vets that I met were fantastic! I am so happy I found this place!

My cat had a pretty serious seizure scare, so we took him to this animal hospital to get checked out. They did the examination and blood tests quickly and effectively, and they didn't try to "nickel and dime" us at any time along the way. Everyone was both knowledgeable and helpful. The people working there genuinely cared about us and our pet, and it showed.

This animal hospital made an otherwise terrifying experience much easier to get through. Also, they have a very chill cat that sits in the lobby and doesn't mind strangers in the least. This will be our go-to vet from this point on, without a doubt.

I am Mary Jo Phipps, on July 4th I got a nine week old beagle puppy. I was so excited! I had just recently lost my 13 years old beagle. I only the puppy 4 days, I knew she was not feeling good so I called and they got me right in. I was not a regular patient of theres but they took me anyway. After testing found out she had parvovirus. Needless to say I was shocked, she was to have had all her shots.

We All Thought She Was a goner. The doctor and the staff where excellent to us and her! They loved her, and came in at night and also on there day off, called me twice a day and through all that she made it through after almost 6 days of critical care. I don't think she would have made it without them. They are now my Vet's, they are absolutely the best. If you don't go to them you should. By the way her name is Stella, she is 3 months old.(almost).Thanks Haven for saving my Stella!

I cannot say enough good about this place! I was on vacation in Grand Haven a few weeks ago when one of my Boston terriers took a turn for the worst. His tumor grew suddenly and he would not eat or jump up on my bed. It was time to let him go. Being out of town and late in the day, I had to call and find a vet to help me. I called Haven Animal hospital and although they were busy, they told me to bring him in and they would help me out.

The staff was so nice and told me to take my time saying good bye when we were finished. 2 weeks later I received a sympathy card in the mail and everyone there had written little messages. I'm from out of town and will probably never need their services again, but that didn't matter, they treated me like family.

Friday was the worst day of my life. Following a morning of errands, I came home to find my kitty waiting on the back porch for me.and it was evident he had been hit by a car and was in bad shape. After calling Haven and them promptly being able to get us in, we started the process of what would become a very long, very convoluted office visit. You probably aren't expecting me to say that I had a terrible experience. "Isn't this a 4-star review?" To be honest, in what was already an emotional and trying time, we encountered clinical detachment, miscommunication, and some very blunt ultimatums. BUT - this isn't that kind of review. See, it's what came next that made all the difference.

You see, the Haven Animal hospital staff came through. Dr. Bytwerk and the staff acknowledged our bad experience and set about doing everything (super)humanly possible to rectify the situation and make reparations. And to me, THAT's what will have me coming back. Life happens, bad experiences happen - but it's how you handle them that defines your business.

I appreciate Dr. Bytwerk's knowledge & experience in a nasty situation, and can sing nothing but praise for Nikki, Rachel, and Cari (sorry if I misspelled names, ladies).

Can't say enough about the staff here. Everyone is super friendly and great with my small herd of dogs. I have also utilized their boarding services and receives text messages daily along with pics to keep me updated on how they were doing. So glad I found them for my babies care while I'm in Michigan

They are amazing here. They show so much compassion for the pets that come in. Barb is the best vet I've ever dealt with and the only vet I will go to. They're very understanding with working with customers regarding paying for what procedure the animals may need. They don't pressure you in spending more.
