Founded in the 1940s, Emerson Animal Hospital P.A. was purchased by our current owner, Dr. Lofaro in 2001. Our hospital has a team of four to five veterinarians, and has been completely refurbished to facilitate the highest quality of pet care. A computerized estimate is given for all hospitalized pets and is updated daily so there are no surprises.
Sunshine, also known as "Sunny" was adopted from the Start Program by Dr. Lofaro and his family in August of 2002. It was 6:00 PM and we received a call that a puppy had fallen out of the cage and was limping on its front leg. They immediately brought the dog to our hospital and Dr. Lofaro took the case.
Pets enjoy a vacation as much as you do. Traveling with your animal friend can be a great experience, as long as you follow a few simple precautions to make the trip as comfortable for them as possible. First of all, make sure that all your pets' vaccinations are up-to-date and that it is in good enough physical condition to handle the stress of a trip.

What a friendly and knowledgeable place. We purchased a voucher from Friends of Animals for our puppies spayed procedure. First time we ever went to Emerson. They took such wonderful care of our precious puppy Sadie. We dropped her off at 8 AM met with Dr Esposito he did an examination and we left. She was ready for pick up at 4:30PM. Everyone one at the front desk, the doctors and support staff were just fabulous. It's great to know I have another Vet I can rely on. Thank you Emerson Animal Hosital

I am editing this review as the vet has personally apologized to my husband regarding an issue about over-inoculating my puppy, hope there will be better communications with clients in the future, I still think vaccines at this place are overpriced and I find it strange they give out unnecessary vaccines.

Outstanding veterinarians and wonderful care! I've been taking various pets of mine to Emerson Animal Hospital since 1998. Dr LoFaro and Dr Esposito are very skilled, caring and experienced veterinarians. Anytime they perform a lab test, they call with results the next morning. They don't order any unnecessary tests or try to upsell a service or product. My pets are always treated like family. Highly recommend!

I'll always take my cat here! He needed a general checkup and some blood work but he's pretty difficult and wouldn't let the doctor do anything. They prescribed him a sedative to take, made my next appointment very easily, and had me come back after giving him the medicine that calmed him down a little. Finally the doctor was able to treat him with so much care and patience.
My sister has a pit bull and was interested in taking him here, so I asked if they have any breed restrictions. They said they love pits and don't discriminate against any animal! I'll recommend this place to anyone, great staff and a wonderful doctor.

Look elsewhere - there are PLENTY of other vets around. If I could give zero stars, I would. Waiting time = ZERO stars. New client, Sat 8/28/21, appt @1045am, arrived @1030am, STILL WAITING @ 1120am for routine annual check & vaccines for two cats. Unbelievable! Two other dog clients who arrived after my appt were seen promptly. Access = ZERO stars.
No flat surface ground level entry from outside, less than 6 spots in front. Next is 3 stairs into the facility, which is a regular house w/storm door & front door - carrying a crate with two cats-approx 25 lbs. Then you will need to open the storm door, then the front door, propping it open w/your body while you carry the crate. Not to mention the disabled or handicapped clients! I walked out at 1120am. At 1132am, they called me on my cell phone, no one even acknowledged my departure.

We have been taking our dog Savannah to Emerson animal Hospital for over a year now. Every time that we call for any reason they are always quick to respond and provide help and assistance to any problems that we have. Every time that we are in the office everyone is so nice and welcoming. We see Dr. Esposito and highly recommend him. We are very happy with the care that Savannah receives and recommend them Emerson Animal Hospital very highly.

My sister n law brought her dog here this week and it was far from a good experience. Aside from a bad experience for my sister n law, it was also a terrible experience for her dog that has left her injured and traumatized. Ive realized no one has made a review to this place in almost a year. Which speaks volumes at how outdated and inaccurate the "good reviews" are for this establishment.
The Emerson Animal Hospital staff lacked the ability to communicate effectively which compromised the dogs' well being and health. A simple stay/treatment for dehydration and diarrhea turned into cut up paws and missing nails. A situation like this deserve a phone call in order to produce a better clinical outcome. Because of the lack of communication, her poor dog has to recover from a injury that could have been avoided. I urge everyone to rethink where they're sending their little loved ones. They deserve the best care and Emerson Animal Hospital does not provide that.

New patients, to the Emerson animal hospital. They were ever so welcoming to our 2 older dogs. Our one dog gets very worked up at the vet, but the doctor and staff handled him great! Our other pup went in with an awful cough, which ended up being a respiratory issues, and within a day it's gone! Thank you for being so amazing to our fur babies

We have had such a great experience since we switched vets a few months ago, after going to the previous vet for 12 years. We've had quite a few visits in the last few weeks with our puppy and our senior beagle. Dr. Lofaro is very knowledgeable, friendly and did a wonderful job taking care of both of our dogs. We especially appreciated the fact that all of the doctors and staff allowed us to accompany our pets, both in the waiting room and the exam room.
Our previous vet ( due to Covid restrictions)made us wait in the car. We also had two situations that required same day attention and Dr. Esposito and Dr. Korsgen fit us in the schedule. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We can't say enough about how pleased we are with the Emerson Animal Hospital and the wonderful care our two dogs received. I would highly recommend them.

I am often asked at work questions about veterinarians. The hardest question I am asked repeatedly this year is if any Veterinarians allow the family to stay with their beloved pet for euthanasia during the pandemic. Today was hard for a Mom and son and their little dog who I considered a very good friend. Their regular vet would not allow them to stay. THANK YOU EMERSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL & Dr. Lofaro for taking such compassionate care of Aang tonight.
His brother was holding him and his mom was by his side as he went. NOT alone without loved ones. I know we are in a pandemic but some fields have moments when they simply need to be around other people. As the owner of Reigning Cats & Dogs Grooming Salon I am thankful I can recommend The Emerson Animal Hospital with confidence knowing that the pets I care for and their families will be in good hands.

Let me start by saying I have had pets my entire life and have been doing dog rescue for 17 years. I got my newest foster with a certificate for a free spay, one of the participating vet's that accept this service is this office. I make the appointment for today. Bring the puppy in, all seems good. I knew there was going to be a charge because the certificate was only for the surgery.
So I get hit with a 900 bill when I get there (estimate was 800). Ok fine. I pickup at 4, bring the dog home, he immediately goes out to pee and I see blood. Bring the dog in the house, look him over and not only is he bleeding his incision site is swollen and hard. Went back, they look at the dog, they tell me there will be some oozing and to clean him with peroxide. Told me he needed more meds (another 40.00).
I should of said something right then other than "this is not right" but I didn't want to be one of those people. We get back home, I am standing in the kitchen telling hubby and my son what was going on. We look down and BLOOD IS ALL OVER THE FLOOR! Now I have had dogs in my home for my entire life. I am the medical foster for the rescue. I have NEVER had a foster actively bleeding like this in the house.
Rush the dog to my vet who is 24/7 (during a snowstorm) go to get him out of the car and now he is lethargic and the swelling has double in size. He more than likely has a something internally that is bleeding or was not tied off. So 900+ dollars for an alter and an overnight stay with more than likely a 2nd surgery. Thousands of dollars will be spent not even to mention what this poor dog is going through. I'll update more as we get through this but I pray our puppy foster will be ok. Update. He's doing much better thanks to westwood regional hospital. 3.5 days in the emergency vet for a bill of $1,500.00.

Just took our cat there. They misled us on the price and service they were performing. I wouldn't ever go back. Such dishonesty and blatant lies. It's unfortunate that they would seemingly take advantage of people during covid. All I can say is. The information provided by each person with whom we spoke was contradictory.

This place is a disgrace. I dropped my dog off to get his nails cut, and then waited in the car because of COVID. When they were done my dog was limping, which got progressively worse over the next few days. Eventually being unable to use either leg by the fifth day, we had to put him to sleep. While it is likely that he had an underlying issue, he exhibited no symptoms prior to the visit, and whatever was wrong with him was clearly exasperated at the office.
They would not entertain the idea that he was injured at their office and instead told me that I would have to pay for an x-ray. They went as far as saying that he likely contracted limes disease within the 30 minutes he was at their office. When I tried to plead my case with Dr. Lofaro, the owner, he was nothing short of disrespectful and dismissive.
He continued to interrupt me with a raised voice, not allowing me to speak for even a moment. Being treated with such disrespect, I lost my temper as well, and the call ended with Dr. Lofaro telling me to find a new vet. I was also told to call back and apologize when the blood work came back positive for limes disease. It was negative. I will do just that: find a vet that will take responsibility for their actions, and treat their clients with respect and dignity. Unfortunately, that won't bring Tommy back. Don't go here if you care about your pets' well-being.

I have been a customer of Emerson Animal Hospital when Dr Boyle owned it I stayed when Dr. lofaro purchased the business. For all these years and at least 4 dogs of various sizes and cats, I have found them to be compassionate. On some occasions there have been follow up to treatments provided. Dr lofaro and his staff are experts in the care they provide.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the counter staff. They are experts in dealing with concerned clients. I would recommend Emerson Animal Hospital to everyone I rate them five stars. Thomas E. Simpson

While I like the level of care my dog receives at the Emerson Animal Hospital, I'm not happy with the way customers are treated by the front desk staff. In the seven years I've been bringing my pet I've never once been greeted with a hello, goodbye, I'll be with you in one moment, nothing! No acknowledgement whatsoever. I'm surprised they've gotten away with such dismissive behavior for such a long time, unless Dr LoFaro isn't aware of their antics.

My first experience here wasn't bad. The front desk is not the nicest and the rooms aren't very clean but I really liked the older male vet (I'm sorry forgot names). So, I decided to come back a second time with both my cats for a check up and blood work so I could get them spayed the week after. This time I had a younger male vet (again, sorry forgot names), he seemed to really rush the check up as I proceeded to tell him my concern for my one cat, whose lower belly was swollen and wasn't going away.
He told me it could be her diet and that was it. After about 10 minutes the check up was done, for both cats. I payed almost $700. Oh, and never got a phone call back for the blood work. I didn't want to come back and get my cats spayed here, so I went down the road in Westwood at the new hospital. They were great and really reasonable! It turned out my one cat with the swollen belly had an infection called Pyometra that Emerson easily missed. Westwood animal hospital didn't even charge me extra to keep her overnight! Definitely recommend going down the road to Westwood instead of this place.

I've taken my jack russell to multiple vets throughout her (so far) 12 years. By the time I took her to Dr. Lofaro, I realized that the previous vets missed multiple problems that she had. Dr. Lofaro quickly diagnosed her and took care of all her problems. His attention to detail and knowledge about everything in the industry is incomparable. On top of that, the staff is extremely nice and professional. I have no doubts that my dogs will continue to be lifelong patients.

The staff is amazing and always takes such good care of our animals. My dog had a medical emergency right before closing and they took her in immediately and took amazing care of her. The kept me constantly updated with her progress during her overnight stay. Dr. Lofaro is an amazing doctor and has always gone above and beyond for our pets!

Should be zero stars! I went here because I had just moved in. As soon as you walk in you can see that this place is DANGEROUSLY UNPROFESSIONAL. The obnoxious young woman at the front desk was far more interested in proving to everyone in the waiting room that she was the big boss (when she wasn't gossiping with the other two girls who were just sitting at the desk doing nothing.) These people obviously have NEVER been inside a REAL, PROFESSIONALLY RUN, vet office, which this place will never be.
Everything about it shows that it is very poorly administered. When I got my dog in with the vet, he instructed a 100 lb. girl to lift my 80 lb. dog - as he just stood there. He then spent FOUR MINUTES looking over my dog and instructed the girl to clean up the dog's infection. When I returned to the front desk the young woman proceeded to discuss with the other two what they should charge me - right in front of me.
The amount: $350 for FOUR MINUTES. Later, when I told my several neighbors what happened they said this place is known as a horror: awful staff, uncaring vets, leaving pets alone in cages on weekends, lots more. Please stay away if you love your pet.

I have rotated through three doctors so far in the brief time I've had my pup, and each doctor I've interacted with has been courteous, concerned, and professional. I never felt rushed, nor have I ever left feeling as though I wasn't sure what I was told or what i need to do to help my dog. The vet techs are all kind, gentle, and seem to truly enjoy their interactions with my puppy.
When she's had "accidents" in the waiting room, the reception staff were professional and helped me to clean it up. When my pup needs to be weighed, they try to make it quick since she hates the scale. She's greeted warmly, and gets a few pets, or a tour behind the desk upon entrance. All of this being said, I really do feel as though everyone in that office cares, and loves animals, which I believe is why I am so comfortable going there. I have several photos and videos of my dog in the waiting room, tail wagging, and that's the most important part for me.

I have two rescue pitbulls, Meekah and Milo, and I refuse to bring them anywhere else. Dr. Stein is the best vet we have ever been to, and we've been to a lot. After moving several times: Hoboken, Lower East Side, Fort Lee, Hell's Kitchen., we have visited many many vets and none of them compare to Dr. Stein and Emerson Animal Hospital. Even if the drive is well over an hour, it is the only place we will go! Dr. Stein has successful removed 4 tumor masses from one of our dogs and each one of them have healed perfectly.
He always calls after surgery to see how the dog is doing and is always able to answer all of our questions. We brought one of our dogs in a few weeks back. For months our dog has been lazy, loosing some hair, gaining weight, etc and we just attributed it to old age. All of the previous vets we have gone to have done blood work and told us that she is just naturally heavier and lethargic. Dr. Stein immediately let us know he thought there was a deeper issue and he suspected there was a hypoactive thyroid issue.
After running some tests, we found that he was right! Our dog has since been on medication and what a difference it has made. She has tons of energy, looks healthier, and is much happier. I cannot even begin to explain how thankful I am. The front desk staff is always friendly and they are accommodating with last minute appointments. Compared to other vets, they are the cheapest priced around.

I have never taken my dogs anywhere but to this animal hospital. I will not let my dogs be seen by any other vet except Dr. Stein. With that being said if Dr. Arteficio is available we will go see if her and if it is an emergency and both of them are not available off we go to Oradell animal hospital (no matter how much it'll cost). Before I knew how amazing Dr. Stein was I went to Dr. Bishvoi because my one pug who was 8 weeks old at the time needed some vaccines and Stein wasn't available. BIG MISTAKE.
Not only did he make my baby puppy scream in pain.but he looked like he could care less! I was absolutely fed up and ever since that day I REFUSE to go see him. I rather spend $1,000 at Oradell then go to him. I need a Vet who will tell me my dog will be okay if she's sick, that he will do everything he can to keep her alive, that he understands how I am feeling and that man is Dr. Stein!
I have not met anyone in this town that was not satisfied with Dr. Stein. He is a great Vet and the staff there is very helpful and friendly. This place is just a great animal hospital overall.

I've had some pretty bad experiences with animal hospitals lately, not sure why. Living in my area there seem to be vets a dime a dozen, so who do you trust your fur baby to? I got pointed in this direction and thought I would give them a shot. Dr. Arteficio was the vet that my cat got to see on this visit. She was nothing but nice and friendly, didn't use fancy medical jargon or try to talk over any concerns I had.
She did a thorough and gentle exam on Leonard and I was freaking out in the back of my head that he would bite.but he didn't. The fact that she was so calming and friendly for just a routine visit, they definitely have my business. The front desk staff was polite, but I was left standing there for a few minutes like I blended in with the background. That aside, a terrific visit!
