Dr. Bush did an excellent job with the surgery and offered thoughtful home care instructions to keep our pup comfortable. Every staff member I interacted with was really friendly, compassionate, knowledgeable, and helpful. Before I dropped our pup off for surgery I noticed that her nails needed to be trimmed but didn't have time to do it. When I picked her up after her overnight stay, I noticed that one of the staff members had trimmed her nails. This small detail just underscores that the staff and doctors really care for the animals at this hospital.

We have had a wonderful experience with Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care. Our dog Beau first came to the clinic to see Dr. Guille for a surgical consultation on a hind leg limp. She determined that he did, indeed, need a TPLO surgery. PVESC did a really nice job of giving us clear expectations and peace of mind during the surgery and recovery process.
They give very clear directions on how much activity and at-home physical therapy is recommended week by week during recovery. Fast forward 4 months, I ended up calling PVESC in tears, wondering if Beau was on the road to needing his other leg operated on. Although, yes, he did indeed need his other leg done, PVESC was so compassionate and kind. There have been a few times where I am holding back tears or crying on the phone with them, which I know makes their job more difficult!
I have never felt rushed or felt like a burden. I also really enjoy the fact that people there seem to love our Beau and think he is very handsome : This time around I have taken advantage of being able to call with questions and/or email recovery photos to Beau's surgery team for guidance and peace of mind.

Staff was compassionate, helpful and kept us informed while our dog was in the care of PVESC. Staff has been very helpful in the follow up, answering questions and assisting as needed with our needs. They were also upfront about the cost and potential issues with emergency surgery, but everything went great and she is well on her way to recovery.

We had to take our senior dog in for emergency at a busy time. The team was great with communication. We brought him in for a 2nd appointment the following week and the surgery team took amazing care of him! The Surgical Vet, Meghan Sullivan, is outstanding! She is a great listener, very responsive, and took time to walk me through everything. It was a huge comfort knowing that her and the team were taking great care of my big boy!

Was there at 1a.m. They were super kind and really good at accommodating my extremely high maintenance 2 pound chihuahua. She was healing from a broken jaw and suddenly came down with a pyometra (infected utes). They did all the assessments they needed to do and made really helpful recommendations. One of the nurses actually remembered Gemma from the single time we had been there before 3 years ago. (the buttons in the picture are part of her broken jaw healing process. )

My dog got into a bunch of oatmeal raisin cookies while I was gone for a few hours last night. I called to discuss options and the lady who answered the phone was so kind and patient! It’s always stressful when your pet might need emergency care and she took the time to consult with the vet to get my questions answered so I could make the best decision for my boy.
I brought him in, they got him in right away, and were very upfront about expected costs and my options going forward. We were in and out fairly quickly and everyone was so friendly and helpful. They contacted my normal vet who called me today to follow up. He’s doing great today and the peace of mind they provided by getting him in quickly and answering all of my questions in the middle of the night is immeasurable! Thanks for taking great care of my little guy!

I cannot speak highly enough of the doctors, nurses and support staff at PVESC. The combined efforts of the emergency and surgery departments saved my puppy’s life and my whole family is forever grateful. Seeking care at an emergency vet is scary and stressful but the care given to our pup and all the patients at PVESC is top-notch. The whole team did everything they could to make us feel supported throughout our pup’s treatment despite working through the limitations of Covid. If your pet ever needs emergency or specialty care you can absolutely rely on this team to treat them to the best of their ability.

I can’t say enough good things about Portland Veterinary Emergency! On Friday night my dog had fell going up our porch stairs and fractured her jaw bone. She stayed overnight Friday and had surgery on Tuesday. The surgeon gave us options to choose from and helped us choose what was best for our girl. They were great about keeping us updated on our pup and always provided so much information, answering all of our questions. I recommend this place if you ever need care for your pet. The people who work here really care.

Our dog Ellie (beagle mix) had surgery to remove 2 masses and one was found to be cancerous. Ellie was started on chemotherapy with Dr Gail Mason and had her last chemo treatment a couple of days ago. We all deeply appreciate the care provided by Dr Mason and the team of doctors and assistants at Portland Vet emergency and specialty care. The staff were all very caring and we have great confidence in them. Ellie is pictured with her big brother Ollie- who is also quite happy to have her doing well. Thank you!!

We had to bring our 7 week old puppy in on Tuesday night, she was very sick. She would not eat, she was vomiting and had diarrhea. She could barely stand up she was so weak, she tested positive for Parvo. This was a scary moment but from start to finish, everyone at this place was amazing! They are so nice, empathetic, caring and willing to answer any questions at any time of day or night. They kept her overnight for 2 nights and we were able to bring her home tonight, she is doing very well. I cannot thank these people enough!!

they threatened to send my bill to the police for theft because i couldnt afford to pay it right at the time of service ans they knew this and still treated her and let me take her home then called me the next wlsay was extremely rude and hostile and threatened me. offered me a 2 week payment plan, which i also cannot guarantee i can afford it by then.not willing to work with me at all with my situation. terrinle experience, extremely appalling rude staff, and no compassion. highly reccomend that you never go here.

Portland Veterinary Specialists continue to exceed my expectations for pet care. Our beloved basset saw Dr. Cory Mosunic for an Opthalmology appointment. The care team did an amazing job keeping my pet calm and comfortable through the eye exam process. They were very thorough and helped me to understand her diagnosis, treatment, and care. Your love for your patients is very evident in all you do. Thank you for quality care.

I would highly recommend Portland Veterinary Specialists to any pet owner who's pet needs a little extra care. Dr. Benedict was amazing with my "high maintenance" older kitty. I mostly appreciated the bedside manner Dr. Benedict used with me when explaining what was going on with Snickers at each appt. She wasn't "alarming", always very calm and always providing helpful suggestions.
I really can't put into words about this hospital, there just is not enough space in this review. Snickers also saw the dermatologist and cardiologist.. all were great with my girl. When she had to spend 2 nts here at PVS, I could call anytime day or night and everyone was so nice, provided informative updates and never made me feel like I was bothering them.
Very caring and compassionate staff. Thank you Portland Veterinary Specialists. Again, a BIG Thank You to Dr. Benedict for all you did for my high maintenance girl and me too (to keep me calm, stop the tears from flowing and helpful advice to be the best kitty mom to keep my girl comfortable).
