Cape Veterinary Clinic has been in South Portland serving the local community since 1958. It was originated by Dr. Ladd Hildebrand, and then purchased in 1972 by Drs. Eric and Carol Robison, who laid the foundation for our community-oriented practice. Dr. Davis began working with the Robisons in 2003, so when they were looking to retire, they didn't have to look far for someone they trusted to purchase the veterinarian clinic. In 2007 Dr. Davis and Dr. Flahive became the new owners of the Cape Vet Clinic.

Cape Veterinary Clinic has been serving the local community for over 60 years! During that time we have developed strong relationships with our long-time, loyal clientele. We love welcoming new faces to our practice and look forward to the opportunity to show how Cape Vet Clinic offers the best in veterinary medicine delivered with compassion and a neighborhood feel.
Cape Veterinary Clinic is now at 51 Ocean Street in South Portland's Knightville neighborhood. We love our new home and we're so excited about all of the improvements that our new location has brought! Our spacious facility provides you and your pets with a more tranquil visit. You'll find plenty of easy parking, less traffic and less stress!
At Cape Veterinary Clinic, we recognize the importance of preventive care. An annual exam not only promotes well-being, it also allows the prevention and early detection of illness. A physical exam: A complete physical exam will include more than just examining the ears, eyes, heart, lungs, and temperature of your pet.
Preventive, routine dental cleaning is important in maintaining your pet's well-being. Having a cleaning at the first sign of tartar buildup will not only make your pet's kisses more enjoyable, it will also prevent decay and the need for extractions. Poor dental health can be a source of pain and may also be directly related to cardiac and kidney disease.

The office management is driving this practice into the ground. Incompetent. Don't listen to what you ask for, then make excuses and blame you when you arrive and expect to receive what you wanted. Made an appointment for my annual, and shot updates, and I mentioned the reminder post card to the person who took my call.
When I arrived, was greeted by the vet tech who would only shake her head as I tried to explain that I was here/had made an appointment for an annual. Rather than assist me, she abruptly canceled my appointment and told me to come back another day. So rude. I complained about her, they closed ranks and called the police on me. They are overwhelmed and blame you for their mistakes.

Cape Veterinary Clinic is the best vet I have ever had! My springer, Bonnie, has been going here since she was eight weeks old (she's 8 months now). My cat Cricket went for her first visit here today, and she had such a great experience. All the vets and techs are knowledgable and experienced in their fields, and you can see how much they care about the animals. The front office staff are also very helpful and friendly!

I expect many of these reviews are fake because this place is awful and the people who run it are money grubbing idiots. They are disorganized and inept. Uncaring and unhelpful. They'll give your dog a 6 month vaccine and tell you it's annual. They'll make an appointment for a nail clipping and charge you for a vet visit. And then leave you on hold when you call to fix it. Checkups are minimal and serve as an opportunity to upsell on unneeded expensive procedures. Protect your pet and stay away.

This clinic is wonderful. From the beginning, they helped revitalize an area of South Portland that needed new businesses. They bought local. They support local vendors. As they've grown they've kept the right values and attitudes. I've always been greeted with a smiling face and eager to assist employees. Even as they've gotten larger they continue to keep a clean, safe, inviting and professional environment.
This past year or two the demand for animals and their services have increased while supply of workers have decreased (or hard to find) and this clinic has done a great job navigating that water while continuing to grow and not "lose themselves" in the growth. We recently joined the Cape family with our dog, Jack. Our vet was a young grad that was great and very knowledgeable. Not only will you have great healthcare for your pets but you'll be giving back to them and supporting local business. Two thumbs up.

Today was my first time at Cape Vet Clinic. I was nervous because even though it was just a cat checkup it had been awhile since our cat had been to the vet and I was nervous for her and for the whole experience. Dr. Risteen and her staff were absolutely DELIGHTFUL and incredible. She was so kind to me, and to my cat. She loved her up, was so knowledgeable and warm and made me feel at ease with all of my questions. I can't say enough good things about the experience! So excited that we found a place that feels so wonderful!

They used to be the best. When we moved to Maine they took such great care of our Basset Hound until we said goodbye. They continued to provide good service throughout COVID. Now that restrictions are easing though they are getting worse. We are an established client and can't get our sick dog in to be seen for a month. I ask each time when they will be staffing up and I always get the vague "we are working on it" answer. I'd suggest you look elsewhere, we will be. It's too bad because Dr. Greenbaum is wonderful.

My pets have always been well cared for at Cape Veterinary. The staff as well as the owners have been more than responsive whenever my pet's have needed medical care. I am so grateful that I can count on my neighborhood Veterinarian. Dr. Bill was wonderful when my Siamese cat Mia, became sick with terminal cancer. Through the worst of Covid, Dr. Bill and his staff's great care of Mia gave me two extra special months with her.

Cape Veterinary Clinic is simply one of the best veterinary care facilities around. From the office staff to their doctors, the team at Cape Vet are friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, they show your pets (their patients) love with a supreme attention to detail. Our two small dogs have both undergone procedures requiring a general anesthetic, and Cape Vet did a wonderful job each time, setting our worries at ease. Our dogs have had operations with Dr. Davis, with whom we have been particularly impressed.

My family recently relocated to Portland. Good friends of ours recommended Cape Veterinary Clinic because of the quality of care and the value of the services. The staff were professional, helpful, and friendly. This was our very first visit, and I am happy to know that we know have a new "home" vet clinic!

The vet tech and veterinarian were amazing. My dog needs a muzzle and gets out of it often- he is a nervous boy after having a random man at hinkley park, kick & break his leg at 1 y/o! The vet tech and veterinarian knew Oakley needed extra love and a very quick visit. From the window (due to covid) I could see they completed his exam and rabies vaccine right in the lobby.
To calm Oakley down because he tries to constantly escape his muzzle the vet tech just gave him a big hug keeping him still & giving him snuggles while the veterinarian completed the exam. To make matters even better, a few days later cape vet’s inventory specialist called me as I had requested information about where I could purchase the same muzzle their clinic uses. (I have tried 10+ & he escapes them all but didn’t get out of the leather muzzle cape vet uses) I was told one of the same muzzles had been ordered for Oakley & I could come pick it up when it’s delivered, they told me the cost and said if for any reason you don’t end up buying the muzzle it’s no big deal and it will be put to use anyway. Needless to say cape vet is amazing and goes above and beyond to be sure they’re doing everything in their power to give fur babies and owners the best experience around.

A week ago we had a tough decision to make: whether or not our sweet Shih Tzu, Zoe, should continue to live in pain or fall asleep peacefully, with us. The wonderful vet and vet tech who spoke to my husband and I were extremely understanding of our struggle and asked plenty of questions. Their reason for doing so was two-fold, I believe: first to help them to make a valid assessment of the pet and secondly to help us to come to the decision that was best for her, comfortably.
We ultimately decided to put her to sleep, and were grateful for the vet and vet techs guidance and compassion.
Today, we received a hand-written sympathy card from the clinic staff: they detailed what a sweet dog Zoe was and what a loving home we had most assuredly given her. What a surprise! We were so very touched by this personalized note, in remembrance of our baby girl, Zoe. We look forward to bringing our new (future) puppy in, whenever we decide we’re ready for a new pup

We have brought all of our animals to this vet and highly recommend them to anyone in the area! These men and women treat you and your animals with the respect and loving care that they deserve. We just brought our kitten in and they didn’t have a cone to fit her so these amazing people made a cone out of a paper plate to try and help! Amazing employees, amazing care and amazing prices for the service you get! If you are thinking about going do it, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Not only are the vets here the very best but they are also reasonably priced. It's also kept spotlessly clean! I first went there because a vet elsewhere had said it would cost $600 to extract one tooth. The vet at Cape Vet found that my dog had 6 teeth that needed to go and charged 1/2 the price! Everyone at Cape Vet is friendly and efficient and the waiting dogs, cats and people all seem happy to be there!

I really love these folks. I feel like they really listen to concerns and work with me. My elderly cat is diabetic and they never put him through anything unnecessary which we all appreciate. My dog is HAPPY to go through the doors for his check ups! That right there says it all, he loves and trusts them and you can't ask for much more.
