Services
Founded in 1971 as a one doctor practice serving cattle and horse ranches, our practice has evolved and expanded into a predominantly equine, multi-doctor ambulatory and surgical facility. Our experienced veterinarians and staff offer a multitude of services, including a 24 hour on-call emergency service.
At Comstock Equine Hospital, we offer a wide range of services to best serve the needs of our patients and clients. Our patients include miniatures, drafts, donkeys, mules, sport horses, pasture pets and everything in between. Whether we are seeing your horse in the field (ambulatory) or treating in the hospital, we maintain our goal of providing excellent care utilizing progressive diagnostics and therapies.
Our dentistry equipment consists of motorized dental equipment, hand floats, oral speculum, and a head stand to allow good visualization of the oral cavity. Our dental services include dental examination, floating, and tooth extraction. For the comfort and safety of our patients, all dental services are performed under sedation.
Ultrasound is an excellent non-invasive diagnostic tool. We have both portable and in-hospital ultrasound machines that allow us to perform reproductive examinations, thoracic ultrasound to evaluate the lungs and heart, abdominal ultrasound to evaluate organs such as the liver, kidney and spleen, and lameness diagnosis such as tendon injury.

I've used Comstock for five years. They have done everything from vaccines to floats and surgery. The doctors have always been professional but yet compassionate. Dr Lau is amazing and we always love seeing her she seems to always make the visit a positive experience.

I was a little surprised when the new vet who put my favorite mare down, didn't call the next day. As has always been done before. Compassion, when you see a person very distressed, is part of the profession, I thought. Too much, I guess.

They got my animals (kune kune pigs) in quickly to be seen. The staff was very nice/friendly, and knowledgeable. The bill was less than I thought it would be.

My horse came with a colic to the hospital and had to have surgery. Dr. Trinidad and Dr. C did a fantastic job in taking care of my mare. They explained everything with a lot of patience and you could tell that their knowledge is outstanding. My girl is still there recovering and I am sure she is in the best hands she can be. Dr. C went out of her way to be there even after visiting hours to talk to me because I could not come earlier due to my job. I am very grateful for all they do.

I have been using Comstock since Raymond Schmutz was the vet there. That was in the 70s. When he retired he passed it on to another group of awesome veterinarians and they have always always always given me good service. Should have said not giving me good service given my horses excellent service and care

Friendly, caring staff. The Dr. was easy to talk to and communicated a lot of information regarding the procedure and aftercare. Overall, a fantastic experience for me and as good as it can be for Kevin Bacon, our pig who came down to get neutered.

Love this clinic! Vets are all very nice, caring and are gentle and patient with my horses. They show up on time and always take time to answer my questions. The office staff always answers the phone promptly, and they are very nice, helpful and efficient.

We love Comstock! They care for our two horses and pony. We had only one visit for our horses prior to an emergency (on Thanksgiving weekend, no less). Dr. Lau was on call that weekend and responded VERY quickly despite the holiday. She gave real, reasonable advice and care options for our pony (who was in the beginning stages of founder). She followed up exactly when she said she would and once the weekend was over, transferred our care seamlessly to our regular doctor (Dr Ruby). Dr. Ruby is fantastic!

We love the care she provides! She is knowledgeable, thoughtful and thorough and always gives us care advice where we have options (which is nice that it isn't always the expensive choice she's giving us). Lastly, I read a different review that said they had trouble with the receptionist. We have only had polite, helpful interactions with anyone we've spoken to at the front desk even when the office was busy. We love our care at Comstock!

They care for all of our horses (12). We use them for routine care and all emergencies. They have nursed horses back to health and helped us through injuries, illness, aging and difficult choices. I highly recommend the Comstock vets. They are knowledgeable and compassionate.

Dr Erin is the best; we were so lucky to find her for a skilled differential diagnoses to rule out laminitis and start Grace on allergy shots. She also found us a very skilled shoer to correct for tendonitis. Being new to Reno was made much easier by her skills and caring concern.
