We are a full service veterinary hospital devoted to cats and the people who love them. Established in 1994, the practice focuses its efforts and education on cats exclusively. Dr. Maureen Ricksgers is a 1986 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked exclusively with cats since 1988. Our staff is made up of cat-lovers who are committed to caring for cats. We work hard to create a feline-friendly hospital that is quiet and calm. We understand it can be stressful to bring your cat in for a visit, even a wellness visit.

Services
Many cats are very stoic about pain and do not show it easily, but it just makes sense that these diseases can be very painful. Our pets deserve a mouth free of pain. A dental evaluation is part of every physical exam. Taking dental x-rays during a dental cleaning is standard care at The Cat Hospital.
One helpful hint is to start training your cat to feel comfortable around his or her cat carrier. This works best to start training weeks in advance of a scheduled appointment, if at all possible. Start by leaving the carrier out all the time in a room your cat spends time in. The door can either be removed temporarily to allow easy access, or pulled open and then tied securely back.

I brought my kitties here for a check up and to get established with a vet as we are new to the area. The front office staff and the vet were all very nice, and the vet came out to my car to talk with me about my cats and her findings. While my kitties generally *hate* riding in the car or being in the carriers, they did not seem at all stressed when they were returned to me.
Both were quiet on the way home and calm in the evening. While in the visit, it was discovered that one of my kitties had an ear infection and the vet gave me meds for it. The vet also read the records from my previous vet. I know that's probably expected but it was the first time a vet ever discussed my cats' history so thoroughly and with such attention to detail. I'm happy that we found them!

Best place to bring your cats! The staff are friendly and helpful and Dr. Ricksgers is just great. She takes time to speak with you directly and answer your questions which is something you don't get at a lot of other places. I always feel like my cats are given the best care when I bring them. They're even great with my super fractious cat which is so wonderful as he has been treated poorly at other hospitals. Additionally, they always seem to fit me in if we have an emergency which is so appreciated. Hands down recommend this clinic!

Called Monday and spoke to a super nice woman on the phone that told me it would probably be about 8 weeks until a new patient appointment (absolutely understandable!) I called again today with the intention of trying to schedule said appointment, however, it wasn't the same woman I spoke to Monday. This woman was the complete opposite. I explained to her my current situation, and she went on to say that because they're so busy currently, they are only taking on cats/kittens without current or ongoing health issues. UM. I'm sorry. Is that NOT what a vet is here to help with?
She told me to call back in a month or so to see where they stand. Disappointing because I had heard such awesome things, but that.that's a no go from me and I won't hesitate to pass that on to my fellow cat lovers.

I can't speak to the veterinary care they provide because I did not end up going. What I can speak to is how rude and disrespectful the staff were to me when I called to try and set up an appointment. I was constantly put on hold and spoken to as if I was trying to do something wrong. I did not fully understand the process and had questions but they treated me like I was a waste of time. I could never go to a place that doesn't have the time or professionalism to simply just answer questions.

I have been extremely impressed with The Northampton Cat Hospital. This fall I adopted a kitten and have been bringing him here for all of his kitty needs including neutering. The doctors and staff are kind and caring toward my cat and they provide a detailed report card making the experience fun and painless. Very affordable and I highly reccomend.

Have two cats. One had an eye infection so I called here and they saw her same day. I was so impressed with their service and the outcome of the visit that I immediately scheduled my kitten to get her 2nd round of shots and spaying procedure. They did both and everything went as planned. They are very organized, reliable, understanding, and KIND. To any cat owners out there: I would highly recommend this place, more so than any vet I have ever been to.

Great vet for cats! Dr. Ricksgers is very knowledgeable and compassionate. She takes the time to explain everything in detail that is going on with your pet. She personally calls and leaves messages with your test results, sometimes even when the office has closed. When I switched over here from another vet, I also found the prices to be better and really liked the consistency of always having the same vet.
Sometimes at the other vet in town, the doctor would come in (clearly without looking at the chart at all) and introduce herself and I'd be thinking, "we've met twice.and you've seen my cat once before for the same problem." That led to many visits to take care of the same problems, which is why we switched. Here, Dr. Ricksgers really knows you and your cat's history. Definitely recommend.

We moved to the area a few years ago, and our kitty transitioned from being an indoor city cat to a romp-through-the-yard country cat. We had to find a nice vet when she picked up a parasite (she's a good mouser/chipmunker, what can I say?), and heard nothing but great things about the Cat Hospital. They were all right. Absolutely the best vet experience I've ever had, and I've had pets my whole life.
We walked in, Bear, the big black cat, came out and greeted Lula (who was not quite sure what to think of such a big friendly other animal). The staff was absolutely lovely, and Dr Whiskers is by far the most gentle, wonderful person. Explained everything very thoroughly, and was so kind with my little buddy. I'm SO happy we found these folks. I recommend them to anyone with a furry feline friend!

We've taken our cats to a lot of vets over the years--both local and in other cities--and the attention and service we've received at The Cat Hospital is among the very best. They're clearly experts on tricky cat-specific problems (including one of our cat's recurrent medical and behavioral problems that other vets had given up on), and willing to take the time to educate and work with us. We've found the vet we'll be staying with!

I used the Cat Hospital for a while. The last time I went there, my cat was agitated and I got mildly scratched. No blood or marks at all but I mentioned to the receptionist that my cat was agitated. This idiot doctor reported to the animal officer that I was wounded by my cat and my cat had to be quarantined. Even the animal officer was amazed at this. Animal officer asked to see my wound and there was none whatsoever. Never ever went back. Beware. This behavior was patently absurd.

Reading Linda P.'s review reminded me that I should have reviewed this place. The lack of compassion and emotion from Dr. Ricksgers is astounding. I understand there has to be a certain degree of emotional distance, but this is something very very different. If you have emotions in regards to your cat, don't see Dr. Ricksgers. The last time I went in was months ago, and I was upset about the blatant lack of sensitivity and care for at least a week. Scarring.
