Services
Hancock Animal Hospital offers a full line of veterinary care options. We offer comprehensive routine care with a thorough physical exam and diagnostic workup. We offer routine and specialized surgery, dental care, emergency services, X-rays and ultrasounds, full laboratory services, and care for certain Exotic Animals.
At Hancock Animal Hospital we believe strongly in the benefits of modern-medicine. We offer a full diagnostic workup and modern treatment modalities. Dr. Wember and Dr. Davis both have interest in working with different complementary/alternative medical modalities in addition to modern-western medicine.
Dental disease is a serious and under-treated condition in many dogs and cats. Dental disease is a crucial component of your pet's health care and can lead to severe cardiac, renal disease and pain. Many pets just need a full dental cleaning and then proper home management after the cleaning. Some animals have broken teeth or an abscess around the tooth root and need to have extractions (pulling out teeth).
We offer drop off services for your convenience. You can drop off your pet in the morning (or any time that is convenient for you) and we can do our examination and treatments without you having to wait. We will discuss our finding with you in person, or on the phone, and will give you written information on what we found and the treatments we performed.

First off, I would like to say that Dr. Wember is a great doctor and he took great care of my cat, but their administrative staff especially the front desk receptionist that answers the phone is incompetent, rude and disrespectful. I understand with the pandemic that every place is booked til March. Apparently inquiring about appt times and not giving them business is enough for a switch to be turned on and a green light for them to be rude. I've called several places and they have all been friendly even regretful, but still respectful and nice.
For the record, my cat has a mass growing in his back leg and need to be seen right away. The icing on the cake is when I went to pick up my cat's medical records, never was it mentioned that it was in a cooler outside. And nobody answered the phone and I called several times and left messages, so I wasted 45 mins of my time outside in the cold for nothing.
Also one of the staff saw me waiting at the front door, and promptly left via the back door. To say I was appalled was putting it mildly. I will never come here again! My cat is going to get his care at Neponset Animal Hospital where the staff is actually friendly and helpful.

I don't have negative things to say about their knowledge of veterinary medicine or their ability to treat sick pets. My problem stems from their policy of taking in pets. My 14 year old English Springer Spaniel is ill, no surprise at his age. Their policy is that you have to drop your pet off. I asked if he had to be put down could I go in and they said no.
That is just about the most insensitive thing I have ever encountered in my life. You have an old dog scared and he can't go in with his family. He has to be dropped off and make that walk alone! That is irresponsibly wrong for the pet and his owner. Fortunately I found a vet that understands how painful moments like this are and allow pet owners to accompany their pet.
This is obviously due to the panic of Covid. Their policy is not humane and if they are that panicked over Covid then perhaps they should close their business until the hysteria is over.

My review is based only on the simple fact that their policy is to conveniently avoid mentioning to you on the phone the charge for the office visit. Naturally everybody loves their pet and will willingly pay a considerable amount to cure whatever ills your pet. On the phone they will ask a plethora of questions concerning your pet but not one mention of the $320.00 just to walk-in the door.
This is totally separate from the hundreds more it will cost for blood work and medication. The doctor told me my cat would need blood work to determine the problem and the cost would be $220.00 + whatever medication might be prescribed. Naturally I said sure. Only then was I informed I needed to pay this now along with the $320 office visit. Had I been told prior the office visit was $320 I would have graciously accepted it.
However their deceitful practice of "conveniently" not mentioning it really ticked me off. Because of this I refused to pay for the office visit or the planned blood work. Knowing their practice of not mentioning beforehand their office visit fee I wonder if you ask beforehand if they will "dance" around that to avoid telling you. I can visit my primary for $175 and my insurance will pay.
This animal hospital "preys" on pet owner's emotions and charges what they've guessed might be the limit. They know exactly what their doing and will never divulge the office visit charge beforehand. Planned deceit I have NO problem mentioning my name. Bill Mullen Quincy BTW: I made an appt with the Neponset Animal Hosp. on Morrisey Blvd. Office visit only $85.00 which they volunteered over the phone!. AND blood work to determine the problem will be around $100, NOT $220!

This is the worst experience I had in many years. My appointment was at 1:45. I got there around 1:30, called their grainy desk. The person picked up the phone sounded like he has no idea after I made a appoint and confirmed the appoint 2 days ago. The person had to retake my dog and my information. I had to wait in my car for 40 min. I had to call them multiple times for them to come and pick up my dog.
With 5 min, I got a call from them demanding payment. They claimed multiple vaccine shots and dewormer. I am wondering if they have enough time to walk my dog to the Vet. The lady collect the payment was extremely rude hang up on me multiple times. I would not recommend anyone go to them. Be Careful! This place is sketchy! I would give 0 start if that is an option

Dr. Alison Bernet saw my dog for less then 5 minutes and misdiagnosed my dog with ringworm. Her prescription slips to the pharmacy missed basic info like how many times my dog is suppose to take the medication causing a delay in actually getting the medication, and the pills didn't even work. I had to go to another place to get the get a ringworm test that was negative and properly get the right medication. Complete waste of time and money.

Hancock Animal Hospital has taken wonderful care of my feline fur babies. Dr. Wember provided such quality care for my first cat, especially when he had chronic health problems toward the end of his life. My current cat is prone to dental problems and has already had three teeth extracted. Gerry is always so sweet and comforting. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does and cares about your animal companion and much as you do.
Under duress, people and animals have the options of freeze, fight or flight. My felines prefer fight, just like mama lol. The staff have always been able to find a way to handle them, including this one visit when my kitty was forced to wear a cone.

Good doctors but their incompetent administrative staff has made my time there an ordeal. Emails would go unanswered, same with phone calls. Hold times were unbelievably long and appointments were frequently delayed. The final straw came today when I spoke with them to have my cats medical records sent to a new vet. They never sent them. After several phone calls. I'm forced to pay over 100$ for new blood work to be done. Which is money that I could have put towards my cats recovery if Hancock Animal hospital had just DONE THEIR JOBS.

Called today to request my puppy's records. The receptionist told me I could have them faxed to me or drive an hour (I moved) and she would leave it at the door for me to retrieve. We are quarantined, why is the establishment using antiquated methods? These are different times that require us to adapt and adjust. Customer service and well-being should be at the fore of your work.

Save your pet and stay away from this Vet. I took my cat to this place and found out that he needs a prescription drug called Albon to treat some parasites condition. I ordered online with 1/10 of the price they offered me. The online pharmacy sent them a fax for approval, and after a whole day - no response. The next morning, I called them and the receptionist (working on Feb 20th) told me she would fax the approval back soon.
Later in the afternoon, online pharmacy reminded me they have not received the approval letter from my Vet yet. I called again, and she said she's busy and showed no sympathy at all. Later on, she finally agreed that she will fax it over by end of day, which she did, but with an additional note that they do not approval for my online order, and they only approve 20ml which is less than 1oz. The smallest dosage I can find and order online is 60ml (2oz). Perfect! now I just need to pay them 10x more money for 1/3 of the dosage. Or I just need to change a Vet.

I love the care and friendliness of the practice. Dr. Wember has been marvelous tending to a variety of issues with my pets. My dog and cats are tended to with the care of people who treat them as if they are their own. They even go the extra mile to help bring the animals in from the car when I was hobbling in a boot and a cane.

I've been taking my 10 year min pin to this vet her since she was a puppy so when I noticed excess tatted on her teeth I made an appointment for a dental consult. I was of course nervous about complications related to anesthesia and how she would tolerate the procedure and recovery due to her age. Dr. Wember and Gerry totally put me at ease and took great care of her with NO complications.
She was ready to be picked up within a few hours and the best part is that mouth look like she is a puppy again! They also gave me a significant discount because it's dental month. I'm so impressed with this team and feel lucky to have them taking care of my girl.

Doctor Kendrick and the rest of the Hancock Animal Hospital staff might be actual angels. Having a sick fur baby can be really upsetting, but from the moment my pup walked into the exam room he was showered with love. You can tell that this staff really loves what they do and genuinely cares for the animals they see. The pricing is reasonable and Doctor Kendrick took the time to explain pricing and the different options we could do, but I can't put a price on the relief I feel bringing my fur baby here and knowing he's going to be taken care of and loved.

Been a client for nearly eighteen years. Very highly skilled and knowledgeable staff. Natural alternatives to modern medicine are always provided for consideration. Facility is clean and conveniently located. Waiting area is comfortable with an abundance of sunlight, as are the exam rooms. Wouldn't bring my dogs elsewhere!

I always take my cat and dog to this hospital, and they are usually very good. However, I brought my one-year-old puppy there last week, and their lack of professionalism is making me go to another vet from now on. He needed to be held down, because he is excitable, and he had to have ear drops/cream put into his ear canal. So the vet assistant said two or three times "good luck with this!" in a very sarcastic manner. Then, I tried to ask the vet a question, and he cut me off and didn't listen to my question. I will never go here again.

A friend referred me to come here, I'm glad she did. I brought my cat in to get checked for worms. Everyone from the woman at the front desk to the vet tech to the doctor were amazing. They explained every step and were very gentle with my cat. The pricing was very reasonable as well. Thank you for caring for my kitty.

Recently moved to Quincy and found Brian's kennel and training was great. Decided to give Hancock animal hospital a try for the convenience and good reviews. On our first visit to get a vaccine they recommended teeth cleaning which required blood work to be done to make sure it was safe to use anesthesia(great). A couple of weeks later they said the blood work came back fine(great).
I was a little skeptical about anesthesia, and would prefer only to use it if it was an urgent/necessary procedure, but I asked around and most people who had it done agreed dental hygiene was important and if a vet recommended the cleaning, it was probably worth looking into. After some back and forth we called to schedule an appointment and after it was scheduled I realized I forgot to ask roughly how much it would cost.
I called back immediately and spoke to the same person who said "it depends but usually $800-1200, we won't know until we see". I repeated "teeth cleaning" and the amounts she said back to her and she confirmed. I had done a little research and thought on average this cost around $300 and at most about $500(depends on vet and area) I even called a different vet to compare and they were on the much lower end.
Maybe there was a communication issue, but at this point I personally would have a hard time trusting recommendations from someone who quoted me almost 3 times the average cost.

Dr. Wember was very informative and made me feel confident to ask questions and get honest feedback. The staff were friendly. But you need update the hours in the your website and Google, because two times I came to the hospital and is closed. And the prescription drug is very expensive. I will definetley be back, but please update the hours and try doing something better in your price.

Such a wonderful place to get your pet checked out. I brought my two cats in as they were both due for their annual exam. One of them is about to go on a plane for the first time, and the staff were very knowledgeable about what documents and vaccines I needed for the flight. The front desk were extremely friendly and informative. The veterinarian knew what he was talking about as he always backed up his answers to my questions wit articles that he would air drop to me on the spot. I didn't even ask for it but he was so kind enough to pass the articles to me. I would definitely bring them both back here again.

The clinic called my husband and recommended he bring our 8 year old cat in to have his teeth cleaned. No big deal, right? The procedure was over $500, it's three days later and my cat is still suffering ill effects from the anesthesia. They "fit me in" to see the vet and I've been sitting here for an hour. This used to be a great practice, we trusted them, but right now I'm totally disgusted.

Took my kitten in for some skin issues and was told because she had no lesions or areas to actually treat with a cream, they would instead give us a shampoo. It wasn't in Stock so I had my husband pick it up when they called to say it arrived. They gave my husband the cream. Not the shampoo. Tried to return the unopened cream for the shampoo and they told me no refunds.
Why do I have to pay for their mistake? It's not the cost of the medicine just the point that YOU gave us the wrong item and won't make it right by returning our money.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL GAIL M FROM QUINCY TO STOP HARASSING ME WITH HER PRIVATE MESSAGE TO ME! You need help! PER GAIL M That had to be the dumbest review I have ever read. So.because of one incident with a receptionist, you're going to deny your animal(s) good vets because of it? How fucking stupid is that? Why not lodge a complaint with Dr. Wember himself? Loser.

Can't say enough nice things about Dr Wember or his staff. Really feel at home here! They take good care of my 2 dogs and 4 cats! Have tried other vets in the area and didn't appreciate how I was treated and how my pets were just money makers to them. I truly believe that Hancock Animal Hospital cares about my pets well being and at the same time they are not dragging me over the coals with costs. Very affordable care and knowledgeable staff!

Well I just left the Hancock Animal Hospital and I have to say I am very happy with the service and care I got! My cat was a feral/now indoor cat and I was nervous he wasn't going to do well with the vet visit. The vet and his attendant were amazing and gentle and I was pleasantly surprised at how good my cat was! I highly recommend this vet and will be bringing my other cat there too.
Thank you to Dr. Webber and his staff for a great visit. I used to go to the VCA but they are super pricey and you never see the same person twice. Although my pets got great care there, I did some research and saw the Hancock Animal Hospital had almost 5 stars out of 40 reviews! Needless to say I was impressed and that's why I thought I would give them a try. I'm glad I did!
