The receptionist who took my call and Dr. Pesch, who saw my daughter and her hamster, took very good care of us. After having been treated poorly by 2 other emergency pet hospitals, the receptionist got an appointment for my daughter right away, acknowledged her upon arrival and immediately put her in a room where the doctor did a thorough exam and gave my daughter a clear course for treatment. Dr. Pesch also asked my daughter to call in a week with an update to make sure she doesn't need to take any further action to determine what's happening with her hamster and just to know that her hamster is ok. We truly appreciate the service we received today!

It pains me to write a negative review of Bolton Veterinary Hospital. This used to be thought of as the best bet in the area. Since the pandemic, it's no longer the case. It became hit or miss lately and sometimes, the staff has sounded irritated when talking to them on the phone. My last straw came this weekend. My dog started vomiting bile.
This continued for 3 days. I called each day and they stated they did not want to see him and would only find room if he was hit by a car. On the last day, he started having bloody diarrhea. Still did not think it was urgent, said it's just GI discomfort. The last time we called, the lady on the phone said something to the effect, "Yes, I've been telling your husband this too." Kind of rude.
We called other vets. They were also booked up but gave us options and other vets in the area they recommended. All were taken aback by the lack of care we received. We eventually had to drive an hour away in another state and found out he likely had a parasite. We got meds and an IV to rehydrate. We will check with a stool sample. We got lucky here. It breaks my heart that we won't be back.

The vets here are wonderful, but the front desk girl I dealt with this week was extremely unprofessional and lazy. I went inside to make an appointment for my dog to have an annual because he is overdue. I'm aware he is overdue and am there to fix it. She rolled her eyes at me and told me I need to email a certain email address to make it. When I was there in person.
And she was just sitting there. When I asked her to write down the email on an appointment card she rolled her eyes again. I also had a very poor experience with the cashier at the place next door that sells pet stuff. I needed heart guard and nexguard for my dog and she had terrible people skills. I got the ok to buy the tablets, but she gave me attitude.
It's unfortunate these low class, unprofessional people are the face of the office. I'm going to take my dog to another vet now. Thank you to the kind vets who actually do do a good job. I hope you fire these people and hire new staff who actually have people skills.

We were able to be fit in for an Emergency visit with our dog within an hour of calling, this would be our first time here. From the phone call to check out we received excellent care! Dr. Kalos and her assistants were informative and comforting to our needs. Not that we've had "bad" experiences at our regular vet or vets in the past but I have to say this care was definitely different in the most positive way. Thank you to everyone for your help!

I had been wanting to leave this review for a long time. Last year, my 2 cats ingested a large amount of my dog's NSAIDs after somehow finagling their way into my cabinets (relentless felines to say the least). I called animal hospitals around the state immediately, all of whom had 8 hour + wait times, at which point my cats kidneys would have already failed.
I do understand that these hospitals get busy and many suffering animals need help, but when I expressed my concern to the woman answering the phone at Pieper-Olson in Middletown, she rudely raised her voice and replied, "well what do you want me to tell you?" After hanging up with this beastly woman and exhausting my options state-wide, I found Bolton Animal Hospital.
They readily took my cats within 20 minutes, realizing the severity of the situation with the utmost kindness and compassion. I cannot thank you enough for saving my cats lives. I am forever grateful.

I continue to love the care we get here. They are amazing with my 15 y.o. Best friend. Diagnosis is always spot on and treatments are affordable and Work! Was in 2 weeks ago for an infection he was constantly licking. They got me in same day and prescribed an oral antibiotic plus a cream. He wore his collar like a champ and it cleared up quickly. This is the most skilled, caring and reasonably priced Vet east of the river!

An overall excellent experience. Dr. Zyra & staff were super kind, helpful, knowledgeable & professional. It's difficult to get a veterinary appointment these days, particularly for an exotic animal, but BVH was able to schedule me in and I'm really thankful for the prompt attention to get my pet on the mend. Furthermore - being an emergency visit, I expected a hefty bill.
Instead I was relieved to find the office visit and medication for my sick iguana were similar to what I've paid for routine visits west of the river. Really cannot recommend this office enough!

They charged us almost a thousand dollars for a cat that was acting strange only to tell us after 3 nights there and several torturous tests we were charged for, that he was a she in heat. To add insult to injury, the new ownerships wife a Carol Coley refused to refund our money and reluctantly offered free spay and vaccinations in exchange. We were blown off on that but it's just as well because I will never trust those owners to my pets again. Twenty years taking our animals there and never an issue till they took over.

I'm currently sitting in the parking lot of this place right now. I brought my 2 dogs in and I told them twice one of my dogs was skittish on a leash and they proceeded to drag both of my dogs in by the leash instead dog picking them up where they would've been more comfortable. I don't care that they're just dogs, they're my family and I will not tolerate watching someone drag my dogs across a side walk into the clinic. I wish I video taped this because it was just awful.

This place is very unprofessional and they treat the animals very poorly. All five of my dogs were spayed here and my silky terrier was abused after her surgery and hasn't been the same since. This place needs to get more professional veterinarians because the ones they have are cold hearted. My two dogs had an annual exam the other day and I told the women who came to my car and got them numerous times one of my dogs was petrified of being pulled on a leash. This women dragged my dog into the hospital. They're so unprofessional and the people who work here should find another profession because they suck at what they do.

The staff at Bolton Vet was wonderful and caring. We were not clients, but our dog Sam became very ill and they got us in quickly. After doing tests and explaining our options, we made the difficult decision to put Sam to sleep. The staff was compassionate during this sad time and afterwards. Thank you for all you did for Sam and us during this heartbreaking experience.

I had such a positive experience here! They were the only place that could get me in within weeks, and were able to see me same day. They were very efficient and their treatments were reasonable, I didn't feel like I was charged for anything extra (which is so unusual for a vet in my experience). Their vet and vet tech were so kind, and it made me so happy that I was able to be in the room with my cat while they treated her. I'm so glad I went.

We drove an hour to come here from Springfield. Our little girl was not well. She was shaking a lot, running a slight fever, burping, sneezing, and not eating. She could not have received better care and service last night. The doctor and staff were great. The hospital was the cleanest hospital for animals that I had ever been to. Their patients are their number one priority as well as their owners. Thank you.

Wish I could give zero stars. I have visited Bolton Vet since 1978. The past couple of years, I have noticed poorer quality of the doctors who work there. Today, a young woman doctor, stuck q-tips too far into my dog's ears and he yelped. Then, I tried to explain something to her about his mouth and she kept talking the entire time, assuming she knew more than I did.
The problem was already being treated and she was totally in the wrong. I finally told her to stop touching my dog's mouth, because she was only irritating it with her hand. She also talked over me which I found extremely rude. My dog went and laid down in the furtherest corner from her and the staff, which NEVER happens. I am glad that I had this appointment because now I am leaving Bolton Vet. Plus, I asked for a certain doctor and without warning, they switched doctors without telling me. So long, Bolton Vet.

Bolton was fantastic when my cat, Turtle, developed a urinary blockage. They were amazing. It was resolved and he's been a healthy and happy cat since, BUT I took him for a sedated shave of his armpits, belly and bum (he has very long fur). When my fiance picked him up in the carrier we could not see what was done so we paid and brought him home. THEY SHAVED HIS ENTIRE BELLY, BACK AND SIDES!
His front armpits are still furry and the sides look like they were trimmed with a weed wackier! I called and one receptionist left me on hold. The next one that answered was incredibly snotty and rude. I got nothing but attitude and a dismissive attitude. They are going to, graciously, credit my account for the cost of the shave. this is BULLSHIT

Looking for a quality 24 hour animal hospital who cares more about your pets health than your wallet? Well this is the place. I've been taking my dog here for years. The doctors here are extremely knowledgeable as well as kind and understanding to your pets situation. I trust my animals with this practice whole heartedly and would highly recommend to friends and family.

I am so pleased that I chose Bolton Veterinary Hospital for my furr baby early on when she was just a puppy. For most of her life, she never had any major health issues and was not a dog that chewed on household items. But as a senior dog, and stressed out from moving to a new home, she ate a rubber mat and was in need of emergency care. I found great comfort in knowing that Izzy was familiar with the staff, physicians, and the building when she was in dire need of care. From the first point of contact to surgery, I am confident she received outstanding care.

My appointment was for 8 pm. They told me they were running a little late. I'm waiting in the parking lot watching cars come with their animal and then leave with their animal. I get a call at 9:30 that there was an emergency and it will be a bit. Ok. Then I see a cars driive in 15 mins later they are called with their cat and leave 20 mins after that.
I finally get to bring my cat in and they tell me again it's going to be awhile. Finally the doctor calls me at 11;30 pm telling me that I should bring him to a specialist right now so it was not an emergency while I'm waiting in the parking lot but is now? I'm the only car left and it's 12:05 am and I still don't have my cat back.

Bolton Veterinary Hospital took my 17 year old Pomeranian in right away when he had a hot spot and a cyst. My old vet's office wouldn't take him because they have a lottery going on due to COVID and it's first come-first serve. I was told unless I was the first caller of the day, I wouldn't be able to have him seen and would need to keep trying.
I was so impressed by Bolton Veterinary Hospital. They were very informative and kind on the phone and took all of my information right away and got us right in. They treated me and my fur baby so well, that I've decided to leave my vet and switch to Bolton, even though it's much farther away, they are worth the drive. Another thing that totally impressed me was that the doctor called me and walked me through everything and explained the medications my pup would need to take following the procedure they performed on him.
I was blown away by the care this vet provided and I would recommend them to my family and friends in a heart beat! BTW, he's doing amazing and all healed! I've never had a vet explain every detail and then ask me if I had any questions for her! Thank you Bolton Veterinary Hospital, you are so amazing! Danna

Money doesn't buy anything but ads. So. You might be wondering: If a business pays Yelp to advertise. Do they get a higher rating? Do they get their negative reviews removed? Can they recommend more of their positive reviews? No. No. And.no. Bolton Vet put my review in their not factored into the business's overall star rating because they are truthful, but unflattering to my experience with them, Beware 20 reviews for Bolton Veterinary Hospital that are not currently recommended Note: The reviews below are not factored into the business's overall star rating. South Glastonbury, CT 0 friends 1 review 1.0 star rating1/9/2021 1/8/2021 I am so dismayed to see what used to be a nice country vet hospital go down hill with their services. Maybe it's due to covid 19? I spent hours trying to work with their staff to do a virtual visit for my dog who was not feeling well. The Televet remote application does not support MS Platform so don't waste your time on a virtual visit if that is the platform you have (most surprising because Microsoft is still alive and well!) I had to plead with them to get an appointment, (they only schedule on each day and I called promptly at 8am once they came off service only to be told they were already booked for the day, so many mixed messages.
I did manage to get an appointment but was 10 minutes late due to getting lost, tried to call and could not get a live person for 20 minutes. Once I got a hold of one of the office staff, the doctor on site refused to see my very sick dog. Wild horses could not drag me back there for any thing. I went home and found a vet that made time to see my boy and he is on the mend. Don't waste your time or your animals health at this point, they have a way to go to regain what used to be a great animal hospital

9/3/2020. A date I will never forget. It was the sudden & unexpected heart failure of my beloved fur baby I thank the staff for all of their accommodations during those difficult last hours & giving me more than enough to grieve her. Being a non-resident of CT & having to deal w/losing ur companion so suddenly was mortifying, but I'm so thankful that her last moments were in the hands of awesome care. Thank u a million times more

We had to take our fur baby here after she ate a raisin and she needed IV fluids for 48 hours. The Bolton Vet staff and Dr. Kalos took wonderful care her. I called numerous times to check in, and the staff was always kind, patient, and answered whatever questions I had. We have had to take our dog to other Emergency Vets on three other occasions because she has pancreatitis, and we're fearful of our vet bill. The bill at Bolton, however, was very fair and reasonable for the treatment received. Thank you!

Very disappointed with one person in particular at this hospital, not sure of her name (woman in her late 50's) but she was responsible for giving me a quote to have some porcupine quills removed from my dog's mouth (about 10 of them). She came into the room, asked me to sign an agreement for $600! I responded, "boy that's seems like a lot." Her response, "well that's what it is." After consulting with my wife, we decided to take the dog home and remove them ourselves, then take the dog to our vet in the am (since this occurred after hours).
This same woman then demanded I sign a release letter, stating they weren't responsible, since I declined treatment, she was nasty and pushy. I declined, at which point she got even nastier and said, "well you have to sign it." I didn't sign it. The staff and the doctor were very nice, but THIS woman, should find another job!
