Whenever I hear someone complain about their vet, I instantly recommend Dumfries Animal Hospital. In fact, I drive 20-25 minutes to go there specifically when there are a slew of other vets in my area. My dog, Clark Kent, is 10 now and has been with them for 9 years. Dumfries was highly recommended by a family member and I have never looked back. My dog unfortunately has had a slew of health issues throughout his life and has worked with 3 amazing vets at the Dumfries office. Dr. Neavar, his first vet, treated Clark for ear dermatitis and trying to find out the root cause.
She provided research materials, medication, a referral to a dermatology office in Richmond that actually cured my dog's issue. When Dr. Neavar left, we were sad and concerned with who we'd work with next. We were then transferred to Dr. Yokota. Dr. Yokota treated Clark's back issues, provided some excellent advice about how his weight was affecting him and with her help, Clark has not had a flare up ever since.
When she left, we were sad and concerned again. We were then transferred to Dr. Johnston. Dr. Johnston knows I'm a helicopter parent and goes above and beyond to tend to my concerns. She advises me on how to proceed with Clark's health knowing how concerned I get as well as based on how she would treat her own pets. Recently Clark has been diagnosed with Pancreatitis and she made a food recommendation that has completely cleared up his symptoms.
I'd be amiss if I did not also recognize the front desk and vet techs. Granted, my dog has a very unique name, but they all know exactly who I am and who he is when I call. They are extremely responsive, efficient and friendly. Recently I needed medical records for a program I enrolled Clark in and I had his records in literally 5 minutes. I wish my own doctor offices were this good.
I don't know what this practice's hiring is like but it is off the charts top-notch. We hope we are with Dr. Johnston for a long time to come, but when the time comes, we will be sad, but not concerned because Dumfries only hires the best. They've got the best people working there and I am blessed to know my dog is in the safest, most knowledgeable, kindest hands. I HIGHLY recommend Dumfries Animal Hospital.

The staff here demonstrate that they truly care about the animals who attend the hospital. I can tell by the way my dog interacts with them that he knows they are there to help him. They are willing to listen and answer my questions. My dog has been attending here for 4 years, I have never been disappointed with the care.

This is by far the best animal hospital I've taken my dogs since we adopted them a few years ago. My sweet sharpei mix has skin issues and they were able to help us get them cleared up quicker than any other vet. They were also very gentle and patient with him, even though he's nervous around strangers and can be difficult to treat. They were just as wonderful with my english pointer mix, who had a spot on her leg and while easier to treat is also nervous about strangers. Even though we've moved about an hour away, we will continue to bring our dogs to them for treatment.

I have been coming to Dumfries Animal Hospital for more than 25 years. They feel like family to me and they treat my dogs like family. I can't begin to tell you how many times they have helped us. They are always there when I need them. From shots to emergency surgery their level of commitment and care is over the top. I moved to a different county 20 years ago and I still make the drive to Dumfries. I wouldn't go anywhere else

Very friendly and sweet with my girl! We'll be seeing the doctor on her next wellness checkup soon but I didn't have to wait too long for the technician. They have covid restrictions and they allow you to stay in your car until a room is available. Really easy system, and it kept my cat calm compared to waiting in a room with other animals.

They are really good for non emergency cases. We are moving out of the country in 5 days, and my pup found the perfect timing to break a tooth, i called to see if they were able to squeeze her in just in case she needs antibiotics to prevent infection (we will take care of the extraction once we get to our new station) and the answer was no. Not looking to "skip lines" but for those who have been through PCS overseas you know the moving doesn't give you much room for wait and see. Anyways though i would share my experience for those that might ran on to a similar situation than mine.
