Services
Hudson Highlands Veterinary Medical Group was established in 1971 by Dr. John Whitefield, who at that time held office hours and performed surgery at our Beacon office. As our client base expanded and the reputation of Dr. Whitefield grew, we opened a second location on Route 82 in Hopewell Junction in 1978.
Amy and her husband have two children, a black lab, and a cat that was adopted from Hudson Highlands. Office Manager Kathy Flynn has been with Hudson Highlands since 1973. She is known for her compassion and for caring deeply about our clients and their pets. She is responsible for organizing, training, and supervising our front office staff, scheduling appointments, managing our client/patient database, and more.
Prevention is the key to your pet's long term health. This approach helps to identify health issues before they become serious and expensive to treat. At Hudson Highlands Veterinary Medical Group we recommend routine wellness exams, vaccinations, regular lab work, deworming and fecal checks, as well as medications to prevent heartworm, fleas and ticks.
Veterinarian and hospital partner Dr. Twila A. Whitefield received her B.S. in Biology from Ursinus College in 1984 and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. She said she was inspired to become a veterinarian by "multiple family members", including her mother, a nurse, and her father, who loved nature and wildlife.

I can't say enough how wonderful, thorough, compassionate and professional Dr McNamara and his team were with my pit bull Emma! She had to have TPLO surgery and from the surgical consult through days after Emma came home they were there. The vet tech Shannon was amazing and very clear on all post surgical instructions. Dr McNamara called me himself when Emma's surgery was complete and in recovery.
He discussed everything and even sent a picture of my baby Emma the following morning! Ive been a vet tech for over 20 years and Im so impressed not only with their professionalism but their compassion! Dr McNamara genuinely cares about each patient and so does his team! Thank you so much for taking such great care of my baby! You all understood it was very different (and difficult being a vet tech myself) and seeing my sweet Emma like this. You're all such a tremendous asset to every animal that comes in your doors! Emma and I thank you all so much!

Have been going here for 7+ years and this last visit my bulldog had a very difficult diagnoses of tick born Ehrlichiosis after having a 105 temp for days and Dr. Christensen had taken 2 hours and would not stop until he solved this. She was in very bad shape now one day later almost completely better. Yes, they are a bit expensive but you get what you pay for, a professional smart doctor willing to take time to figure the problem out.

We cannot say enough how wonderful Dr McNamara and the staff are at Hudson Highlands. Dr McNamara is very compassionate, caring, and professional. Before during and after surgery we had so much support from Dr McNamara, Shannon, Patrick and the front end staff. We are so appreciative and grateful. Thank you for taking such good care of our girl!

I have had nothing but positive experiences here. My dog was injured and Dr McNamara was incredibly understanding, helpful and kind, even coming in on a day off to see us. The staff has also been very helpful in collecting needed information, and being honest with me about potential treatment options.

My three-year-old dog had the TPLO surgery in May by Dr. McNamara. I was a wreck dropping her off. Everything went as planned and we are very lucky to have Dr. McNamara in this area, everything in his video he discussed is true, great support staff and yes, they are there 24/7. After bringing my dog Harley home she was incontinent due to medication, we called around 8pm and a nurse suggested to lower the dose, which did the trick.
Couple suggestion that I did for my dog, not that all dogs are the same. 1. Keep a journal to write everything down, it gets very busy the first couple weeks. 2. My dog has never been in a pen, purchased some carpet squares, moved in the living room furniture to box everything into a recovery room. 3. I used a beach towel to support 70 lbs. frame rear quarters for bathroom breaks. We are at the end of September and she's back to normal. Thanks again Dr. McNamara and your support staff

Great animal hospital with a kind and friendly staff. My dog had to have a tumor on his leg removed and that required frequent posy procedure visits and they were always able to fit me in for dressing changes and unexpected needed visits. The staff truly cares about your animal and will take the time to talk to you after the visit and answer any questions you have. Went to another place for years that after the covid restrictions wouldn't come out or talk on the phone about and questions or concerns I had. Couldn't be happier with the facilities and staff!

My dog sees Dr. Broussard for her recently diagnosed auto - immune disease. It was a long road to get a diagnosis after seeing a few other vets we found this group. The doctor took a detailed history and ran the tests needed to figure out what was wrong with my dog. Since diagnosing he has gone above and beyond to give my dog the best care possible.
From emails, phone calls and office visits he goes to great lengths to make sure my baby is getting the best treatment for her. He is very knowledgeable in his specialty and loves animals. What more could you ask for!

Was referred to Hudson after my dog needed to see an orthopedic! Before we even met the staff, I was impressed in how quickly I could get scheduled. Then when I came, after having to drive an hour, the staff was nice and accommodating to our schedule and time. Dr McNamara. was awesome. The first thing he did was come in a get down to Ozzie's level. He helped answer all my questions and concerns. They were even able to get Ozzie in for xrays on the next day. Very professional and very caring! I wish I lived closer
