Why is dental health so important? Most pet parents are not aware that their pet is dealing with dental issues. Did you know that poor oral health can lead to infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet's liver, kidneys, and heart? Recent studies have shown that 70% of adult cats and 80% of adult dogs show symptoms of oral disease. At Akaal Pet Hospital, we are proud that we have the most up to date equipment to treat dental disease, including digital dental x-rays.
We love pets and we love helping sick pets get better even more. Our Citrus Heights veterinary team is well-trained to quickly obtain the test results we need to diagnose and treat your pet's condition. Ultrasonography is a type of diagnostic technique that uses ultrasound waves to produce an imaging study.

I wouldn't recommend Akaal Pet Hospital. Our cat got ill and we thought we were lucky, that there were openings to get her checked out, especially since it's been so hard finding somewhere open. Well, we took her in on a Thursday, and less than a week later, we had to put her down. The veterinarian completely missed how sick she was, only sold us insulin and sharps, even after repeatedly telling him there was something wrong with her--that morning.
We took her to the emergency vet, and they told us she had declined, and was critical and it was humane at this point for us to let her go. Take your fur babies elsewhere, this place is dingy, with apathetic staff, and horrible veterinarians. I wish we had listened to our gut and taken our baby in sooner to someone else, she may have still been with us. Definitely heed the warnings, and other reviews. They're right.

It's been a year now and I'm still in shock every day at the lack of care at this vet. was too hard to even write this. I brought in my ill dog for second opinion and got imaging and blood tests, etc. the vet mentioned so nonchalantly a mass on one of her lungs and that she should be scheduled for another echocardiogram (she had a known heart murmur with no symptoms).
I trusted this veterinarian and figured if he so casually mentioned the mass he must have known or felt confident it was just a fatty mass or something. He said nothing else about it. So I schedule the echo and she continues to be unwell and the vet is just throwing appetite inducers and anti parasitics for her. I keep calling cause she's not improving (not eating) and then at one point her breathing was twice the normal rate and it lasted overnight.
So I call and the clerk says she can get us in in FIVE DAYS. So I ask what I should do for my dog that is short of breath and I'm being told to wait five days. Clerk says she can't give me any suggestions whatsoever. Just an appt in five days. So I call another emergency vet who says she needs to be seen IMMEDIATELY in that condition. So then I take her to UC Davis emergency vet and they immediately do an echo (called in the cardiologist at 2am). Looked at the report for akaal on the imaging and said "from this imaging it looked like she was going into congestive heart failure and we are shocked Akaal didn't recommend rapid treatment". (Turns out it wasn't heart failure but based on xrays her heart looked enlarged due to her chest shape or something, but Akaal should have done something rapidly about it like Davis). Turns out my baby had LUNG CANCER and we were shoved off two vets saying she had an upset stomach.
My sweet sweet girl died after three days at UC davis but her breathing was so poor that they couldn't even sedate her to do a bronchoscopy. So I can only wonder if she could have been helped in the three weeks I was being jerked around at Akaal and another vet. Davis said lung cancer can progress quickly so you have to move quickly. She had 28 days of being treated for an upset stomach when was ready to pay for a lung removal, chemo, whatever it took but it was too far by then. I would have given that girl my lungs if I could have. That month could have saved her.

Had to make an emergency appointment for my 16 yr old dog. He was in bad shape and other vet offices said they didn't have appointments until 1 month out. I couldn't have my dog in pain until then or worst. I was recommended this place by a family member. They called us in and found the issue quickly. We made a plan and I was able to go home with my dog no longer in pain. Thanks!

They are starting to become a victim of their own success.they either need to move to a new location, hire more staff, or both. phone wait times for me have consistently exceeded 20 minutes, and they are not very prompt with helping waiting customers outside of their business.something needs to change. It is also worth noting that they are responsive to all the positive reviews.while ignoring mostly all the negative reviews.
They have also now raised their prices on their services for absolutely no reason other than they are taking advantage of the pandemic to do so. I can understand raising prices on sold goods, but not services. We will be finding another vet very soon.

This five stars is for the gal Summer! Originally we where unsure of returning to Akaal but I decided to give them another shot. Our first visit was very cold and impersonal. We were expecting to get recommendations on vaccines for our puppy and his lifestyle but we're basically told just pick some. After doing research we came back to our second appointment very prepared and that is where we met Summer.
She was so kind and patient with answering our questions and concerns and even set up our next appointments while we were there. We even got a packet at the end of the appointment with side effects of the shots and information on what he was given with dates he was due next. This was something that was definitely missed during the first appointment and I am very thankful that it was done the second time. Summer made us very comfortable and we are very happy to be clients at Akaal.

Brought my dog here for the first time. They said Vet was in surgery and they would look at him in a few hours. Which I didn't love. Vet suggested blood work and X rays. No problem. They have my dog for 3.5 hours. Call and say he's ready I ask what the blood work said, they have to send it out. Okay what about the x rays? Oh you declined those. No, please do those. 1 minute later vet calls and says they don't have the equipment needed for two people to hold my dog to x ray him for the 3rd angle.
He continues to say contradictory statistics about what the x ray will catch then says well I'm not working tomorrow. Then said he needs an ultrasound because the x ray won't help. What? So what it sounds like to me is it was 3:30 and he didn't want to do my dogs x rays because someone in his office made a mistake and they didn't have time but my suffering dog didn't make the mistake why does he have to be in pain? Go to Friends and Family vet or MarQueen not here.

My experience was STELLAR! It could not have been better. I owe my puppy Luna's life & well-being to Marco & Dr. Bhullar! Marco got Luna seen as an urgent ER follow up, and Dr. Bhullar diagnosed her major heart defect. I am indebted to Akaal Pet Hospital, Marco, Dr. Bhullar & your entire staff. Thank you ALL for what you do daily to take care of our furry family members. You are so cherished, valued, appreciated & truly loved. I can't thank you enough.

Not sure why this place has great reviews, because the service we received was mediocre at best and incredibly disorganized. We just came back today for a follow up after having an anal gland issue with our cat, but there was no doctor available, so they just gave her more vaccinations. If there's no doctor available, just call us to reschedule for another time.
If they're trying to get us to come back a third time for another payment for something that they should have done today, it's not happening. We're going to Reagor instead.

Getting our puppy timely access to a vet is no small task during a pandemic. I was impressed by how quickly our puppy could be seen and the flexibility in the appointments that were offered. The staff were friendly and helpful. Understandably, we were not allowed into the building due to COVID-19 precautions. The staff wear masks when they come to your vehicle to pick up your pet.
Most of the communication is done over the phone while you wait in your vehicle. The vet communicated well, including their recommendations and treatment options. The cost was average for vaccinations and the exam. We plan to continue care with Akaal.

My doggie Dewey was in desperate need of immediate life or death surgery due to a huge mass on his leg that wouldn't stop bleeding. Dr. Bhullar advised me to take him to an emergency Veterinary to have immediate surgery. I informed him that I did, but when I arrived, the technician said I had to call their surgery department and make an appointment. Dr. Bhullar replied, "Your doggie cant go another day without surgery.
He won't make it". He quickly went and spoke to his staff, came back and said, "My technicians said they will cancel their lunch breaks to assist in surgery. I also made some calls and rearranged my schedule. I'll do Dewey's surgery TODAY." I was in disbelief. Tears began to pour from my eyes. Long story short, my doggies surgery was a success! He is currently home resting comfortably, Dr. Bhullar and his wonderful, caring staff saved my Dewey's life.
If that isn't going ABOVE AND BEYOND, I don't know what is. I will be forever greatful for Akaal animal hospital. I will be recommending this hospital to anyone and everyone that asks if I know of a great animal hospital. Thank you Dr. Bhullar and staff for saving my doggies life.

After my first visit, I've already recommended this vet to several of my friends. Their prices and quality of service cannot be beat! In all my years as a pet owner, I've never been so happy with a vet. They present you with all the information and options and don't try to upsell you or shame you about anything. Simply wonderful people who clearly care about your pets!

I recently adopted my puppy and decided to take him to the vet a day after I got him. I called so many veterinarian hospitals to book an appointment the day after his adoption, I called over 10 nearly 2 weeks before getting him and they were all booked until November! I normally go to the VCA by my house as that is where I take my other dog, but I was not going to wait that long. So, the final vet I called was Akaal Pet Hospital, and sure enough they had availability!
They quite literally saved my puppy's life. The rescue in which he was adopted had prescribed the wrong medication! They gave me some SUPER strong medication that is meant for adults with joint problems. Keep in mind that I have a small puppy who had just been neutered. So thankful the doctor told me that that was the incorrect medication, and luckily I hadn't used the medication from the rescue either.
The doctor then made sure to prescribe me the CORRECT medication that is extremely safe and meant for my puppy. Thank you Doctor for saving my puppy's life! Will definitely come back.

Awful! My baby needed to be put to sleep as she was a 14 yo senior dog that had terminal cancer. As my dogs vet you would THINK they would fit their patient in! Especially during an extremely emotional time! Nope! They instructed me to take her to an emergency room! An emergency room to euthanize my dog is NOT an option in my opinion! Luckily after calling several vets crying my eyes out, Foothill Farms Veterinary Hospital squeezed me in.
I saw Dr. Maleck who was very compassionate and kind, even though this was the 1st time we met. I pulled my other pets from this cold hearted hospital and switched to Foothill Farms.

I'm so glad I found Akaal Pet Hospital! I'm new to the area and my cat started limping within a week of our move. I searched for a vet and found Akaal. All of the staff was very friendly and very helpful- I was even able to have my cat seen the same day. The vet was so kind and very knowledgeable. He spent a long time on the phone with me understanding my cats history, explaining her options, and giving his recommendations.
I felt so comfortable, appreciated his attention, and really felt my sick cat was getting the best care. Pricing was fair and reasonable- I've definitely found our new vet and couldn't be happier! I would highly recommend Akaal Pet Hospital!

How lucky were we to find this pet hospital. My dog got a foxtail in his eye and I needed to get him in ASAP. I called around and was not having any luck, fortunately I called Akaal and they were able to squeeze him in for a drop off appointment, checked his eye approximately 15 mins after I dropped him off. They were so professional and friendly. So happy my pup and I found them!

I had somewhat of an emergency scenario with my dog's health. I called the clinic. no answer, straight to voicemail. I left a message regarding my scenario along with call back information. 4 days later still no call back. I also showed up in person and could see a staff member at a desk on the other side of the glass door. They would not answer the locked door and there was a note upon the door asking to call from the parking lot and wait for service.
I waited in the parking lot for 1/2 hour after calling multiple times (no answer) and leaving yet another message which still has not been returned several days later. Don't waste your time with this Vet.

I called to schedule an appointment to get my Kitten neutered. The lady said $65-$70 and I decided I would take that, and I got there the lady brought out a paper with a fee over almost $400! It's a 5lb and only a 6 month old kitten. $400 to get his balls removed that's crazy. It's ok I found another veterinarian who will do it for $115 in Elk Grove. I've been there before I just moved so I thought I would try a place closer, but you can't beat quality and pricing so I'll just drive and hear my cat sing the song of his people.

NEVER TAKE YOUR DOG/PETS TO THIS VET! I moved from the Bay Area to Citrus Heights and needed a new vet closer to me. I found this vet and set up an appointment as I needed an X-Ray to check for bladder stones. The appointment was at 3:45pm, when we go there they advised that the X-Ray would take 2 hours and to leave him and we could pick him up at 6pm.
They called shortly after we left to discuss the cost & exams. They wanted to charge me $300 just for an X-ray and were trying to add on a ton of unnecessary tests totaling $800. (My vet in the East Bay charges $121 for the same X-Ray BTW) I told them to forget it and I would just take my dog down to his regular vet. They still ended up charging us $39.00 for his stay.ummmm for what?
For the fact that they requested us to leave him and pick him up later? This is utterly ridiculous. Needless to say, I will find a better vet in the area who isn't trying to gouge people.

I have found our new vet! All of the staff were amazing. My senior Boston terrier started having loose bloody stools and I panicked. They were able to get me in within a day and performed tests with results within a day. Dr was kind and thorough and prescribed medications at our first visit as well as expressed anal glands that's were full of blood. Results were all negative and my sweet dog is feeling so much better after 24 hours of medication. Reasonable price, no surprises, and just overall great service. I paid $179 and was expecting at least $300 from previous experience. Highly recommend.

I have been searching for a new Vet for close to a year. I was with my last vet for over 28 years. He retired. After going to a few different vet offices, I found Akaal Pet Hospital. They are very good. The vet did a very thorough first exam. He was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. He was the first vet since my great vet that retired that actually gave grades from 1-4 on various health issues that dogs have.
His staff was excellent because you start out with the same tech/ assistant from beginning of the appointment to the end. Other vets that I have been a patron of are not as organized as the staff at Akaal! I will be staying here till I have no pets! Thank you

So very impressed with this place. We pulled up, called the number, and waited in our car while doing checkin over the phone. They then took our cat in while we stayed outside. The vet called me and talked everything over, then they ran my payment over the phone. I used the yelp deal which shaved off $20! Everyone was super friendly. We will be back.

I was searching around for a new vet after being less than satisfied with my previous one. They were very responsive to Yelp messages and quickly got me an appointment for my cat's extraction despite everything going on with covid19. I was able to have the exam and extraction the same day, all in one cost, which really saved us time during the workday.
We were given a cost breakdown and paid around what they quoted plus the extraction. There was never any hidden fees and no upsells. All of the staff were really thorough and helpful throughout the process. We paid $517 minus the $20 off Yelp deal for the dental package and extraction. Our last vet had quoted $660-900, so we were very happy with our experience at Akaal.
I feel all the staff were very honest and truly care about your pets. We were given thorough post op instructions for our kitty and a follow up call the next day to see how she was doing. Look no further than Akaal if you want an affordable and trustworthy pet hospital!

So thankful I took my cat, Samson, here to be seen by Dr. Bhullar and his staff. We were able to have an appointment within a day. When I brought Samson in, it was for pain he was having in his arm -- turns out there was some sort of inflamed mass in his armpit. I was so worried that it could have been a tumor, so Dr. Bhullar took a sample of it, had it analyzed, and got back to me quickly.
Not only that, he offered to do his neuter the same day as the appointment for 1/3 of the price it normally is, and he removed a BB bullet from his leg (from when he was a stray) free of charge. I can tell Akaal really cares about their furry patients and their families. I'm happy to say Samson is healthy! Akaal Pet Hospital exceeded my expectations of the services that a relatively affordable vet could provide. I really appreciate care they take, how personable Dr. Bhullar and his staff are, and their low prices (especially during the pandemic).

I would like to start off with thanking Dr. Bhullar and his wonderful staff for their heart felt care they shown my family and I. Dr. Bhullar went above and beyond for my baby Meatball. He tried everything he could to try to save her even lowering his cost for emergency surgery so it could be affordable if that was the option. He let us know what was her best option.
Unfortunately it was to make her rest in doggy heaven as surgery wasn't going to make her better. One day when we welcome another fur kid in our life this will be my forever Vet care! I encourage you to make this your pet's vet as he truly cares and is not money motivated from my experience. Thank you again, The Cruz Family RIP Meatball Cruz
