Dr. George L. Hartenstein IV Dr. George L. Hartenstein IV is the son of the late Hill Street Veterinary Hospital founder Dr. George L. Hartenstein, III. Dr. Hartenstein is primarily a large animal clinician. He has been traveling around York County attending to the needs of our local farmers since his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
Hill Street Veterinary Hospital (HSVH) has its roots firmly planted in an old York County family that settled in this area in the 1850s. The first veterinarian, Dr. Frederick Helb Hartenstein, practiced out of a stable in New Freedom. He traveled from farm-to-farm in a horse drawn carriage. In 1941, his son, Dr. George Lewis Hartenstein III, or "Doc" purchased an established veterinary practice at 555 Hill Street. They named their new practice Hartenstein Hospital. Here they laid the foundation for the amazing years to come.
Preventative medicine is crucial in extending your pet's lifespan and enhancing their quality of life. Pets may require surgery for a number of reasons. When your pet does, it's important that their veterinary team is skilled, highly trained, and uses modern equipment. Which is exactly what we do! Advanced diagnostic tools allow us to pinpoint problems and create targeted and effective treatments. It's so hard to say goodbye. But when we need to, we will make sure the process is compassionate, gentle, and dignified.
Our phones come off service at 8am. If you call before 8am, you will be speaking with a member of an on-call service group, not Hill Street Veterinary Hospital. This on-call service group cannot arrive your pet into our hospital. Please call again after 8am to check in. Call/Text 717-843-6060 upon arrival.

Vet team is awesome. My kittens are healthy n happy. They were the only clinic taking walk in appointments during covid. Offer walk in appointments in AM hours. Also evening appointments available for different work schedules. Vet is super friendly and shows a love and passion for the animals they see. Experience was great. Thank u dr. Alfano and dr. Feroli.

After dealing with several other veterinarians in the area, we decided to make a longer trip to give Hill Street a try. Not only have they taken excellent care of our pets with a genuine love for their job, but the staff is always very helpful and extremely understanding and courteous. And to top it off, the prices are significantly more reasonable than any other veterinarian I've dealt with.
The office is a little dated and the parking situation isn't the greatest, but that's being nitpicky. Bottom line, for the price and quality of care that our pets have received, I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else, and I highly recommend Hill Street.

Free vet visit turned into $130! Nothing wrong with dog jist adopted from SPCA where she had shots and vaccines and also fixed. Papers say she wasnt due for more shots until 2022! Ive been off work due to surgery for almost a month, i wouldnt have even had my husband bring her in yet if I knew it was going to cost that much! RIP OFF

I have been taking my handicapped dog here for 10 years and have never had a bad experience. The care and attention they spend on the animals is phenomenal. Dr. Feroli has been such a support for my dog as she is coping with her old age effecting her disability. I highly recommend Hill Street Vet to anyone who is looking.
